Can someone PLEASE make a stock android rom for galaxy s! I hate the samsung blue everywhere. please please please!
Blue is nice =)
I like the blue and their choice of font, but I really hate the Samsung crap everywhere. If I was more experienced in cooking ROMs, I'd bake my own without all that crap... but I'm not
...mind you, I'm learning to love the SNS thingo.
I quite like the theming too.
What I don't like is that Samsung have messed with the stock Music Player and Clock App and others - this breaks other apps that assume the stock versions are installed. For example, the Samsung app won't get scrobbled by Last.fm and the Clock app, well, where's the frickin clock??!! (Yes you can install Better Clock from the market if you like force closes when pressing the music button, etc ...)
Overall I don't mind the theming, it's the broken functions that irritate me the most (I was spoilt with Froyo on my N1 ...)

I like how people throw out there demands, only thinking about themselves. A pure AOSP ROM would take a lot of dedicated time which a lot of devs don't have.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If/When CyanogenMod comes out you will have a basically pure AOSP ROM. In the mean time there are numreous AOSP-ish ROMs by DocRambone and others, so try them.
I'm personally appalled that someone dug up this ancient thread.
I know this has probably been asked before...but I'm a noob and couldn't find anything in the search.
I've rooted my Froyo X using doroot just for the wifi tethering. I want to know what other uses there are for a rooted phone.
Can I change the notifications so they're unique to the event? I get the same sound for a text and when I plug in the cable.

First check out the Droid X Wiki for some nice guides and info on what you can do with your newly unlocked device.
And to answer your last question... you can do that without being rooted. Just go into any app that sends you notifications.. and in the settings of THAT app... you can change which notification sound it plays when that particular app notifies you.

Oh cool. Thanks for the info and the n00b guide. I just got the X a couple of days ago and came from an omnia winmo6.1 so this is all new to me. I fkn love this phone/interface so much more intuitive.
Does anyone know if there are more TV apps like TV.com?
Former i910er myself... It was a huge difference jumping from all this omnia roms to this. Also loving my X... Love it when girls say how big it is...

Sorry...I mean it worked in the sense that you can make calls, but texting was a chore and navigating through contacts, making appointments was next to impossible without the stylus...which I promply lost after getting my 910.

Ok, I have to give you that. The default WM 6.1 was a HUGE pain
It was much better after upgrading to WM 6.5.3
I used Thumbcal to replace the calendar, and Swype made typing easier

Greetings, I am sure I could discover all about MIUI if I looked hard enough, but I thought it might be useful if we had our own Nexus S place where someone like me who has never used or seen MIUI in action could hear from those with previous experience.
I understand its very different from normal android but in which important ways? Are widgets the same? Is the market the same? Will we still have Voodoo sound and colour? Does the app drawer still apply? You see where I am driving at!
please share knowledge and questions...
I have very limited experience with miui I'll admit but I can answer a few of your questions. Most things are the same however it has its own customer launcher and home replacement for which there is no app drawer. All apps are placed on homescreens for the minuit launcher however you can use adw or lpp and have an app drawer back.
Sent from my MattedBlues CM7 Nexus S from the XDA Premium app.
Thanks man, I have heard many good things about MIUI but I would miss something like Voodoo so much! I mean how awesome is Voodoo sound?!
It does seem MIUI would take some getting used to.

Well its just like any other ROM, kernels will have to be customized for it. I'm sure someone will release a voodoo sound/color equipped kernel for it soon.
Its definitely a switch but one worth giving a shot. I tried it on my Evo but couldn't get Swype working and at the time I was more in love with Swype then I was with any ROM so I gave up after only giving it a few hours. I plan to give it a much more fair chance this time but its a little difficult getting things set up when half of everything is in chinese lol

Lol I assume your chinese comment is sarcasm and I can assure you its usable in chinese. I do not know a single chinese character but for the most part you can work your way through everything. The one thing I'm still looking for is Haptic Feedback because I hate it and its on by default <.<
I personally love MIUI. The lockscreen, when they get it, looks fantastic and nice. The menu screen is extremely different. If you look at the pics you'll see what it looks like. That takes some time getting used. All the apps are on the homescreen now, similar to iOS. You can create folders to organize them. You can also add all the widgets you normally get from the market, on there. The messenger has been modified, it a very good way. It looks really good. Everything else is the same.

From what I understand they don't have any intention of bringing the old lockscreen back. I'm not sure if they will be doing a new one but, again this is my understanding, we're stuck with the AOSP lockscreen.

one thing that strikes me regarding the original MIUI ROM being chinese natively... is that AOS is supposed to be roughly international No?
even if it installs as Chinese, you should be able to go into settings and change it to English?
like when i change English to Spanish and Vice versa in the stock ROM or some other Custom ROMs

MIUI is fully customized. And no this isn't the case, its set to English by default and the MIUI ROM is a hybrid of English and Chinese.
The English language pack is now available (~30MB) in the MIUI thread.
Simply, it is an iOSish Android ROM.

it wasn't that bad. the icons in settings were pretty relevant.
its fine now. just the notification power widgets is still in chinese.
only complaint i really at this point is white background with white text.
will probably go back to CM7 when the next nightly comes. i prefer having all black to maximize super amoled screen

pretty much. but it opens a lot of room for customizablity and eye candy.
my engadget, photobucket and some other apps FC'd on me so i reverted back to CM7. probably going back to it on the next release and see how it is.
for some reason, my ADW EX settings doesn't get restored when im on MIUI but works for CM7 and other 2.3 based roms. weird

Download issue can be solved by switch the download mode to start download under any network.
Open Downloads app -> Press Menu button -> Select the right one to switch to start download under any network
Refer to the MIUI forum, since the new UI is still under development, so the custom lockscreen not integrated yet on the first release
Cant really find the "Downloads app" setting. Have a tip or an image of where u mean?
@ zephiK worked for me with restoring the settings with titanium.

Many of you may know that I'm in the progress of "Sensify" my GingerDX. So it raises a small question.
As the title says, do you want Sense's boot sound and ringtone instead of current one?
No, it's stupid. This is SE, who wants HTC is free to go buy one.
IT UP TO YOU DUDE IT IS YOUR ROM AFTER ALL
sure if people dont like it thay can edit it there self.
so if "YOU" like the htc boot sound and ringtone do it
as im very greatful that your putting your rom up
so it up to YOU dude

Ok guys, so the decision is made.
If you can, HTC Launcher please !!
Or it's widget (clock, messaging, friends stream, dll.)
Also a setting for Power Saver (it's there, at Salsa sense racht)
Many of us want HTC features at X8 !
(bootanimation too!)
(oops, too many request, it's up to you )

Exactly! Please, DX don't make anything that the user cannot easily remove! I fully respect people who wants to make their SE looking like an HTC, but for me it's like putting a BMW logo on a FIAT. Would you drive such vehicle? Personally, i would NOT, it looks kinda ridiculous.

I think that having the same bootsound and the same ringtone of an HTC has nothing to do with the improving of the phone, it's just a personal taste. I was especially referring to those people claiming for the HTC logo during the boot: don't you think that is a kind of ridiculous "wannabe"?
On the other hand, I really appreciate the work Dx has done like the sense lockscreen but I really don't understand how can be nice to see an htc logo on a SE...
Just my opinion

Why do you people like HTC Sense so much?!
It's ugly, boring, gray, crowded and confusing. The wallpaper is girly. The ringtones are all the same.I just can't see any reason to like it.
SE style is much, much better, airy, open and neat.
doixanh,I appreciate your work, your ROMs are great, but that's completely unnecessary.
in my opinion, it is up to the user.. if dx want to put it, and for the others who dont want it, they may ignore it.. just customize your phone with your style.. in fact, the HTC stuff can be remove.. if dx want to include it, so be it.. lol

See above. You like SE style, but I don't. You are free to apply any SE theme in Theme and App section. Just do what you want. And I do what I like.
Go ahead. It's your rom, and if people don't want it, it's their problem. You are free to do anything you want with your personal rom. Actually, I don't really think you need a poll at all. If they don't want HTC style roms, they can switch to MiniCM or GingerCruzt etc.

With a post like this no one else will probably bother answering...
Search in the SGS i9000 THEME & APPS section, if its not there, it doesn't exist...
and funnily enough
there is one app i know that can do what you want. i'm going to ask you a few questions though before i give the link.
1- you bought an android phone just to use it as iphone?
2- you do know that sgs looks like iphone 3gs, do you?
3- it will be very embarrassing if iphone fans ask if your phone is iphone, no?
I'm one of android purists. i can't stand people that makes their phone looks like iOS or even Windows Phone 7.5. i hate MIUI rom for being such an iOS wannabe, but i do like some of it's apps, namely MiLocker, MIUI music player, and MIUI file explorer. i also hate people that use iphone ringtones on their android or dumb phone.
ok that's all i have to say. this is the download link
Hit the thanks button, will ya? that's how to make friends in xda. ok take care now.
As I said I like ONE feature of the I phone. That is all.
That link didn't work :s
