Hi i was wondering since i have the latest radio rom 2.15 i seen this link that has different versions and it said to try different ones to see which one suits my needs. Since I have 2.15 can i go backwards to see if the other ones will work better or will it mess up my phone. Only reason i wanted to try different ones is because i lose data connectivity once in awhile and have to reset it. Thanks.

Yes you can use an older radio version. But if gou have a T-Mobile HD2 then make sure the radio has a 50 in the third set of numbers like this 2.15.50.14. The radios with the 50 in the third set of numbers is a radio that is compatible with the T-Mobile HD2. Flashing a non compatible radio to a T-Mobile HD2 will brick the phone. Also it is two exceptioms to this rule, do not flash radio that looks has these numbers in it 2.04.50.xda or 2.05.50.xx cause they were the radios used in the test devices for the T-Mobile HD2 but they were still used on regular HD2's so they will brick a T-Mobile HD2 as well.
Thanks will try it then. I hate have to go to airplane mode then taking it off to get my data connection back. I hear that the 2.12 is pretty good so i wanted to try that and see if i get a better reception. Yes I know not to use anything with a .51 at the end. Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone know what advantages (if any) the new radio has over the old radio? An official/leaked/speculative changelog from HTC or some other expert? Anything?
For example, are there some known issues with the old radio that the new radio fixes? What are they? Does the new radio improve the performance if the device in some way (battery usage, CPU/memory usage, etc)? Is it simply the end-of-life for the original Sapphire radio and they want us to be using the Hero one from a future support perspective?
The basic question I am asking is: why is there a new radio version and what makes it so special?
I've done some reading today and I realise that certain custom ROMs require the radio to either be old or new, so obviously you have to have a radio that matches what your ROM is expecting. I'm not asking about that.
I have the same question. Im not sure if downgrading my radio will cause me to lose some reception or anything.
The new radio/spl combo mostly change how the phone's internal storage is allocated to different partitions - system vs. userdata vs. cache. Without it it's hard to fit the system files of a sense rom on the system partition.
I do seem to get better gsm/3g reception on the new radio though, too - but YMMV.
Do you think it is worth it to downgrade? The only reason I am thinking to downgrade is because it looks like there are better roms for the old radio, specifically the CM5 ports, like the one by alan.
Any more input?
i downgraded to run cm5.07-stable (not alan's "version" though, i just installed cm+gapps+bcrook+o/c710). my gf's phone is still running new radio so i put the NR version of 5.07-stable on it and tbh i can't tell the difference without really poking around in there.
also, i notice that now i'm running old radio again i seem to have more issues with the phone not picking up 3g in areas i know there's 3g until i cycle aeroplane mode. i assume this is radio related and that it's a real phenomenon and that i'm not just imagining it...
but yeah, i think if you're already on NR and aren't sure, i'd try the NR CM5.07 version which i'm sure will soon be replaced by 5.08-t1 at some point. that said, using the radio changer tool is so freaking easy that it makes bricking virtually impossible so i guess you can't lose either way...

okay i have some issue here. after upgrade rom it seem i cant send mms.
is it because of the radio version?
As what i know radio can be specified whether to use GSM or CDMA reception.
not all country use GSM or CDMA as their default reception.
so is that because i use wrong radio version?
how can i know or found the right radio version, for example for GSM?
anyone here have clue...?
The radio version doesn't affect the phone's ability to send MMS. The Magic only works on GSM/UMTS - flashing a CDMA radio would probably brick your phone.
You probably messed up your settings. Call your provider.
i've been trying to find this answer - but does old radio with Froyo have a working camera? I know new radio doesn't. When I look at Froyo roms with 3.22 radio they don't mention if camera works or not.
Does anyone know? Thanks.

Yes they do, the froyo roms for the 3.22 radio do, but it's really not because of the radio, its the kernel that their using for that radio for froyo. The kernel has some good advantages if im correct but it also has its cons.. Correct me if im wrong.

thanks kein for your answer.
but then when i try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and find phone info, and go to the "set preffered network type" it is always pick "WCDMA preffered" as default. i know that magic only use GSM, then i choose GSM only, but when i try to set up 3G on my APN list, the phone goes back to WCDMA as default.
so my guess is if i want to use 2G network, then choose GSM.
otherwise, WCDMA as default for 3G.
but im not sure by sending/receiving MMS use which network (GSM/WCDMA).
any clue?
It should be WCDMA (same thing as 3G or UMTS) if you provider has 3G. It doesn't matter if you use GSM or 3G when you're sending an MMS, as long as you the right APN settings.
Right since this place has gone android crazy over the last few months, I thought I'd give it a go. Went through all the instructions, updated hspl to 2.08 updated radio to greater than 2.08. Ran android, boot screen shows all the boot up text then melts away into two lines, then....nothing (left it half hour just black screen and green flashing led). Anyway, reading though the 19900 posts on android I stumbled upon a post saying that to run android you need to flash a .50 radio not .51 What I want to know is as I am using the wwe stock 1.66 can I flash a .50 radio with no ill effects or will I have to flash a new rom as well?
If it means flashing a new rom then I'll just stick with WM as I've got my phone running nicely and haven't needed to mess about with it at all (to get it working!) for months
You can flash the Radio ROM only. As you are not using a TMOUS HD2 then there is no problem with bricking your phone.
I am currently using the 1.66WWE ROM and 2.10.50.08_2 Radio ROM.
I don't know how well this works with Android, as I like WinMo.

Ok cheers for that, will give it a go. Won't be using android as a day to day option, just want to try it out see what all the fuss is about.
Be careful: I tried THAT already (updating my radio on my 1.66-ROM Radio 2.06.51.07) to run Android but found out that all upper radios 2.08 and higher) from the radio-thread do partially not work on my HD2 (some of the basic functions Phone/WiFi/Wireless Router/HSPA etc. didn´t work anymore after upgrading).
So after flashing new radio CHECK EVERY function of radio if it´s working as before.
I had to go back to 2.06.51 to get my smooth running of my HD2 again with all Radio features working flawless.

Got to admit after flashing 2.09.51 yesterday it actually improved things, got hsdpa at home (4 bars as well) never had anything other than gprs as I live in an old quarry, lowest it has dropped to is 2bars of 3g so as far as dial up connectivity is am better off. Not had other issues with wifi, phone or messaging either, not tried bluetooth or wifi router yet but would assume that they are fine also. Obviously if things do start going ary I'll flash the original back
BTW android now boots and runs like lightining!
So I give it a last chance. Didn´t try 2.09.51 (goofed the line and thought it´s for TMOUS). Tx for the tip
Did You change rilphone.dll and if yes to which version ?

Hi djingonthenet,
Can you confirm you have flashed the radio to 2.09.51 and not 2.09.50? Any issue observed so far?
I have the same configuration as your HD2 and would like to try the Andriod but worry that the radio may cause unknow issue to my HD2, eg phone,3g, or wifi, etc.
iv been searching around and cant seem to find which one is best, most of them cause my data connection to fail for a second or two when i connect to opera or is this another issue and not my radio,
any advice would be great

Try the Radio I'm using, it's working pretty well, reception is good, data connection is good, give it a go! But you should really test some out before posting a thread as every reply will be different, it's difficult to say which is the 'best'!
I recently upgraded my radio to 2.15.50.14. Since the upgrade I have noticed an increase in battery life++ and less switching between H/3g/2g. Data connections feel much quicker on HSDPA but this is purely anecdotal as I have no speedtest results to compare.
This is on T-mobile UK.
In my experience a Radio that works really well on one network/Country may not be the best choice on a different network/Country.
It doesn't cost anything to flash a Radio, so experiment away. Read the stickies in the ROMs forum to avoid "Bricking" your HD2.

Where about do you live? I'm about to try your Radio, to see how it goes
How did you get on radio-wise?
I am on tmobile in the uk.
On recent radios ( not tried every single one of course) I get my signal dropping down to 4 dots where I know I get good signal. I just flashed one of the 2.10.x radios and its definitely dropping down to4 dots alot less but still not how it used to be. I will try others in the morning.
I was wondering if there is a definitive list of the best radio depending on which provider you're with?
Thanks.
Yans.
HD2 - Best radio for UK Tmobile
I know it's been asked a thousand times before, but does anybody have actual experiences on the HD2 with Android running of SD, and being on Tmobile?
I must agree, 2.12.50.02.2 does work amazingly. I tested a lot before agreeing to this one. And android seems to connect straight away with it installed. I had 2.08, 2.09 & 2.10 before & had to constantly switch my network connections from WCDMA/GSM (HSPA/3G/GSM) to WCDMA only (HSPA/3G) and back again while running android. However, 2.12 never had the problem.
best radio for hd2 & UK Tmobile
I think I have to agree. I have tried lots of them, but am going back to 2.10 and 2.12, and out of the two, 2.12 seems the better. I also had to contstantly turn my hsdap on and off and on again to get connections as it dropped often. What kind of donwload speeds do you average?
Hi,
Im having problems with my HD2 signal. The problem is that it searches for my provider on startup for about 2 minutes and gets max 1 to 2 bars only on the second floor of my house, although when it has a connection it has 3G. Its mostly at no connection.
I have a second HD2 aswell and that is running okey even in the basement.
No warranty, so no point of suggesting that.
Ive flashed many differents roms and radios, didnt help.
Any suggestions I should try?
Where is the internal antenna located of this phone?
Thanks in advance!
try swopping sims to see ifs its the sim, assuming they are both on the same network
If not swop out the sim with one thats compatable
Naah, its not the problem of the sim, because one of the hd2 works perfect with my sim and the other doesnt with the same sim. So if the second one doesnt have a grudge against my sim then it should not be a problem of the Sim. Thanks for the advice although!
The question im quite interested at is where is the internal antenna of the HD2, I would like to check the connections.
It's a know problem with many HD2's i think some sort of bug in android. Switch to 2G network only in the settings and ull have full reception all the time.
Try to remove the battery over night, and then reflash with Radio-ROM and OS-ROM of your choice.
worked for me, no signal issues since I did this.
Soz, wrong theard :/

You can flash a different radio version just like you flash other stuff. Be careful and read the directions though because you can brick the device doing a radio flash.
Go to your phone settings and "about phone" and you should find your radio version. Most of us use 2.15.50.14.
Click here for the HTC HD2 Master Radio Thread
Read and find out what might be best to use for your carrier and or location. I used 2.15.50.14 because it was recommended by TMOUS users which I am. Some people test different radios and see which seems to work best for them.
-Edit-
The radio controls stuff like your carrier signal, bluetooth, wifi, etc.
thanks i updated to 2.15.50.14 but im still having this problem . idk what else to try
Having some trouble with that also. So, the steps are:
Reflash Radio, than android and see if it works?
If it doesn't, anybody knows the best Radio for brazilian carriers? (Mine is Oi Santa Catarina)
Thanx.
I had a nand build of android installed on my HD2, but through various circumstances that phone cracked in half. So, I bought another HD2 this time used and when I popped my SIM card in I noticed it didn't have very good service.
Nonetheless, I was excited to have a working phone again, so I rushed and installed android on it. Now I can hardly get service much less internet, and I've messed around with a bunch of radios and none have helped so I assume it's a problem with the rilphone.dll. Do I have to reset to WM 6.5 to change the rilphone.dll or is it possible on android?
rilphone.dll is a windows file, nothing to do with android, so yes, you would need to be running winmo, however all reports say you cant change it manually (well you can but it wont work) it needs to be cooked in using a kitchen.
In the 20 months ive been browsing the hd2 section, ive never seen any posts saying rilphone made any difference to reception problems.
In that case, any idea why two phones running identical software would get wildly different service?
could be damaged / faulty / dismounted aerial inside, , ever taken any hard knocks?

sp pls check your radio version.
