I have a friend who is running stock 2.2.1 on her mytouch 3g and says it's buggy as hell. I recommended trying cyanogen mod. I've got my vibrant overclocked and modded to the nines but don't know where to start with the mytouch. I've read about a gold card method and super one click... what works with stock froyo? Also, what are some stable, fast roms I might consider other than cyanogen mod?
Thanks in advance

Really depends on here fastboot information. Get her to turn the phone on holding back+power and give us everything from that screen.
OK thanks. I'll do that
superoneclick root. That works well and is what I used.

You can take a look at the two guides in my signature. Both will work.

Thanks everyone! Once I get root and clockwork recovery on there I should be good. My friend isn't technologically savvy at all so I figured cyanogen mod would be a good daily driver. Does anyone have any other favorite roms that they'd recommend?
My wife is one of those people. I use CyanogenMod 5.0.8 on her phone. Bout the fastest and most stable ROM I could find for her.
Thanks everyone! I should be good. I'll check back in if I have any issues.

Use Universal Androot to root the phone and then flash recovery thru ROM manager from market and then flash COS-DS-Gingerbread you'll be glad you did.

I'm very aware of the differences between a Slide and a regular myTouch 3G. Maybe next time you should try looking at the links yourself since they are both for the original HTC Magic and not HTC Espresso.

There are many tutorials online for mt3g.
Two of the best are Unlockr or Cyanogen's.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/11/how-to-root-your-android-phone-superoneclick-method/
http://theunlockr.com/2010/04/26/how-to-root-the-htc-mytouch-3g/
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Magic
You may have to use the gold card method like I did, that's all included in the Unlockr tutorial.
Thanks to the Unlockr.com and the cyanogen team, great work guys.
I googled the Androot deal and found a QR code and using my barcode scanner and installed it that way. My phone is a mytouch 3g like yours so don't be confused that it says magic down there because I am using the CyanogenMod 6.1.0 rom from Rom Manager.

I hve radio 2.22.23.02 on mytouxh 3.5mm and
How do I upgrade radio?
Or yea because all Roms are 3.22 or 6.35 please help
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G using XDA App
SERIOUSLY...you obviously didn't search very well. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR RADIO!!!! The myTouch 1.2 (3.5mm jack) will only work with the stock 2.22.23.02 radio!
Oh so I use g1 roms
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Wait but the g1 roms have other radio
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If it specifies a certain radio you besides the 2.22.23.02 then it probably will not work. You'll need to look for ROM's that only specify 32B devices.
If you want to try a ROM, then just make sure you make a backup of the one your using now, then flash it. Worst case scenario, if the ROM doesn't work you'll just get stuck in a boot loop. Then you can just pull the battery, boot back into recovery and restore your nandroid backup and start over.
Okay so is it an eb1 device?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You can only use ROMs made for the MyTouch 1.2/Fender/LE/whatever-you-call-it - there are a few in the Development forum.

Not true. Any 32B ROM that doesn't need a specific 32B radio should work. There's a guy I talked to a week or so ago that uses nothing but G1 ROM's on his myTouch 1.2. Also to add, any ROM based off of CyanogenMod will work.

No it's not.
Just imagine that your phone is a regular MyTouch 32B device except the fact that it's not recommended to change the spl or radio. That simple.
Hi Guys,
I need some help. My MyTouch 3g 32B is stuck on the green mytouch boot screen when I turn on the phone right after I tried flashing a custom rom. I tried wiping and reflashing as well as starting over from scratch with the original Cupcake build and updating it to the Froyo 2.2.1 OTA. I want to continue installing custom roms. Please help!

on Froyo 2.2.1 OTA
(I was not able to stay on 1.5 or 1.6 OTA after downgrading because of Google Activation issues)
You need to flash a 2708 kernel after flashing the ROM.

He does't need to re-root, he just needs a different kernel then what comes with CM 6.1 (which is what he's trying to flash).
Didn't he un root and then update to 2.2 ota like in his post. I assume he didn't mean ezterry's 2.2 ota. I could be wrong. Then again he wouldn't have problems with continuing to flash roms.

Listen to what the man (DonJuan692006 ) tells you!
Donjuan is right. Flash a 2708 kernel. I'm running 2.2.1 as well and needed the new kernel to stop the boot loop

Actually you are correct sir. He will need to re-root and re-install the custom recovery if he did in fact go back to pure stock, re-flash CM 6.1, and then flash a new kernel.

I have stored my g2 to stock, removed clockworks mod, and unrooted. However, i still have visionary on it. when i boot up the phone while holding down and power it comes up. its not in the list of applications i have. Any help would be appreciated.
here what the screen reads:
VISION PVT SHIP S - OFF
HBOOT - 0.82.0000
MICROP-0425
RADIO 26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-BOOT

"VISION" on the HBoot screen does not refer to the Visionary rooting app. It refers to HTC's codename for the phone "Vision" (known to most as the G2/Desire Z).
And I believe that for your phone to be completely unrooted, where it says S-OFF, you need it to say S-ON.

SO, just look for threads that show me how to go back to s-on right?

Apparently as many times as this guy keeps asking the same question over and over again.
I've tried the 1 or 2 things in the Bible and its not working. Still s-off. I flashed the newest gingerbread PD1.zip hoping that might install a new s-on bootloader but no. It's still the PVT 0.86.
