So a friend of mine brought a galaxy note 3 was selling cheap so I bought it because I read note 3 (verizon) were factory unlocked. I want to use a GSM sim on it, so i switched the network to gsm/umts (also tried global) but all i am getting is Emergency calls only in the notification(or barely 1 signal bar). After spending some time on it I figured out it was using 3G instead of GSM. 3G Coverage is poor where I live while GSM is excellent. but my note 3 only searches for HSPA
Changing to both, GSM/UMTS & Global had no effect. is there any way to resolve this? I only want to use GSM(2g).
(PS:nothing wrong with sim works perfect with gsm on my s3.)

I have a factory unlocked S8 I just recieved that I've been using on Straight Talk(verizon network) and that's been working fine but I wanted to test the reception of t-mobile in some places and I can't get anything to work. I have a Flash Wireless sim that I've used to at least see if I have service on other phones but I get nothing on the S8.
In Network Mode I only have the option for LTE/CDMA or CDMA. No Global or GSM options are even listed. Does this have to do with the SIM card not being properly registered? I would think I would have a Global option regardless of SIM I put in it.

I have the same problem. I'm on MetroPCS and I bought a Galaxy S8 used on Straight Talk before. I can't make any phone calls, but I have LTE and SMS works just fine. Does anyone else experience the same issue? I really appreciate any help. Thank you.
Hi guys,
I bought a Verizon s8 in the states and wanted to use it in Europe. I live in the Netherlands, so I swapped in my Vodafone some instead of using the Verizon Sim and everything works fine besides mobile data. I can not change the APN settings as they are locked. Carrier says it's Verizon though it's using the Vodafone Network.
So I was wondering, can I flash the firmware with a european version to get access to the APN settings and remove the carrier lock?
Best
the s8 verizon is not locked just put your sim card in and thats it.you cannot flash international rom on the us version odin wont let you it will fail even if you somehow made it it will brick the phone.the reason is because the us s8 version uses snapdragon chipset and the s8 international version uses exynos chipset they are completely different.
the option you have is to flash the us unlocked version to the verizon s8 i did on mine i have verizon also.

I was wondering is there a way to add more international languages on my s8+. I have managed to change parts of it but on menu and while scrolling in facebook it doesn't recognise i.e some norwegian / turkish letters and doesn't switch language in parts of menu.
The model i have is G955U1 ?
Thanks again.

Tv87, I am in the exact situation as you. Have you resolved your problem? If so, what was the solution?
I just moved to the Netherlands a few weeks ago and switched my S8's SIM Card from Verizon to Vodafone. Everything worked fine except for mobile data. The Vodafone rep told me that my APN settings were grayed out / locked; therefore, until they could be edited, my phone would not receive mobile data.

They are not locked, the phone still thinks it has a verizon sim and that's why you cant edit the settings, do a complete factory reset.
And anyways, even with editable apn settings you wont get lte, because your s8 is lacking the european lte bands.

What makes you say that?
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Che...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933
Says:
"In Europe, most carriers base their networks on bands 3 (1800 MHz), 7 (2600 MHz) and 20 (800 MHz). China, on the other hand, uses a whole different 4G LTE standard - while the Western world has rolled out FDD-LTE networks, China and large parts of Asia use TDD-LTE."
And several places online show all those as being supported on the g950u.

Am I missing something?

I did a factory reset while my Vodafone SIM Card was in the phone. I am now getting the following message:
Sorry, we're having trouble activating your phone.
If you're moving your phone number from your old phone to this one, make sure your old phone is turned off.
In addition, I get the following message on the very next screen:
You can set up your phone using Wi-Fi, but you won't be able to make or receive calls until your phone has been activated on the Verizon network.
Is there anyway to unhinge my phone from the Verizon network!? Before I left the United States, Verizon assured me my phone was not locked to their network; however, it appears to be based on the messages received after factory resetting my phone.

What you can try is to flash the USA csc instead of the VZW one that you have right now.
I recently brought Galaxy S8 SM-G950F (international unlocked) version and use Ultra mobile which in turn uses T-Mobile network in US. I have following queries:
1. Currently Wifi calling is not working nor can I see any options to enable/disable it. Does international unlocked phone do not have this feature? I tried the call setting menu and more connection settings but it does not appear in both of them.
2. After the call connects, my data switches to H or H+ (3G) but otherwise it remains on LTE/LTE+. Is this an issue with my phone or the carrier? My friend uses the same ultra mobile network with IPhone 6s and LTE works while on call so I think its not a carrier issue but not sure. I have heard LTE works on carrier provided galaxy s8 models.
I also have any option to exchange my phone for North America unlocked version S8 SM-G950U. Does this model supports above features? Should I go for this exchange?

You will not get wifi calling or volte on any of the unlocked phones while they are stock. Each carrier is slightly different on what u need to do. Tmobile only need a firmware flash with a carrier that has the option. Att is the hardest, many more steps.

I'm preparing to install Russian rom from xiaomi . So you advice me not to do
I'm pretty sure that it is a GSM only phone. The W-CDMA listed in the specs is actually UMTS, the competitor to CDMA2000 and the 4G standard used by GSM networks.
What network are you trying to connect to?

Yes it is CDMA2000 EVDO.
When I insert *#*#4636#*#*
I have cdma among networks' list.
I don't think it is going to work. Which cell provider are you trying to use? In what country?
Most US reviews of unlocked phones specify that they will only work on GSM networks like T-Mobile.

I'm from Yemen Arabia. My network is Yemen Mobile Telecom.CDMA2000 3G EVDO.
and the rn7 reads the sim information like network name and services on the sim .
I have no idea about Yemeni carriers, sorry. Have you tried calling them?

Hi I don't know if this helps anyone and I know this is an older post but I think I found how to turn CDMA on. developer options enabled, go into about phone settings and tap "internal storage" until it opens up phone info. Choose the sim slot and there you can set preferred network to CDMA only or something like that. I don't know much about mobile network but I saw that CDMA setting in there.
That menu you get after clicking on internal storage is the same as typing *#*#4636#*#* in Phone. I've tried changing it to CDMA only or LTE/CDMA but nothing happens, the UIM card is recognized but it can't log on to the network.
More info: the Global Rom version of the phone only works with CDMA carriers that have LTE data and VoLTE voice. It does *not* work over CDMA 1x or EVDO. I had to swap a new China Telecom UIM to get VoLTE working.
Hi. I bought Redmi Note 7 Pro from aliexpress with global Rom. It does not connect to my carrier in Poland. The status of the sim keeps changing from no service to emergency calls only every 2 seconds. Is there any way to fix it?
RN7 not work on the network CDMA.

Is there anything I can do or should I return the phone?
