Can voice search recognize two or more languages? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to change language while its running the voice search?
I use it a lot when I am driving, and it seems like there is no option to change language in voice search unless you actually go into the settings.
I wonder whether it is the way it is or there is something I don't know.

where do you get google voice search? I've looked for it in the market and can't find it. Is voice recognition a feature only available in later versions of android?
It is a feature available for 1.6. SE decided not to add it to the OS.
Most rooted Android 1.6 Roms have that. It was quite useful when I had my rooted HTC Magic. Just press the voice icon at the search widget and you could do a Google search without using the keyboard. Too bad SE decided not to carry that on the X10.

bummer. I knew what I was getting into and I still love the X10, but I'm definitely looking forward to a root. hopefully someone can pull it off, and soon
I have the voice search app on my x10....and i can also use the speech to text mic button on the htc keyboard.
Might depend on where you got the phone. Had 2 x10i only the first one had voice recognition. I'm using a x10a now with no voice.

Voice dial anyone?

Tried to search this.. anyone knows if I can voice dial with Desire? I need it when dial someone while driving through bluetooth. Thanks
I too would love an answer to this if anyone has one. Would be nice if the button on bluetooth handsfree kits started voice dialing as with my TouchHD, but just voice dialing would be a start. I am guessing that the only option would be using the voice search but I tried that and it just looked up whatever name I searched on google
Download and install the car dock (see here).
Amongst other things, it allows you to voice dial.
Regards,
Dave
You don't need the car dock app, if you have voice search installed, just long press the search button and say "call whoever".
Si
is there any non internet dependent voice dialer available
Am I missing something? Long press on search key does not bring up any voice search on my Desire... do I need to install any app?
mine puts call whoever into a Google search???

Has someone actually made this work? All my searches go to google. Carl/Kal whatever...

Doesn't work on my handset it always performs a Google search. I've even tried unticking the Internet option in the Searchable Items list and it still searches Google. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling too.
Me too I think this might be a new version though but it wont download lol

It is a newer version than the one I originally had installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled this one.
Download to your PC, then move to the SD Card and install (just open with Astro.) It really works very well
Yes this works better now, only thing is when i say call mom etc
i get a list.. call mom, call mom mobile, call mom google search etc.. why dont it just do it lol

[Q] Can I set Google Now to detect voice straight away?

Hey guys can I set Google Now to detect voice as soon as I swipe up? I can't see options and it would be much easier whilst so I can send a text with touching my phone less for safety.
Thanks guys
I tried to do that as well but I didn't find any option. I doubt it's possible with stock phone. But I really hope I'm wrong.

Setting>Voice>Hotword Detection ??
Then after swiping up to open Google Now, you just say "Google" and what you want it to do..
example: "Google, Text Someone Don't Forget the Milk"

Saying "Google" to start voice detection should be on by default. At least I've always had it.

Hotword is a US only thing.

This, your language must be set to "English (US)" for the hotword to work. I tried it out for a while (I'm from the UK) but I didn't use it so switched back.

[Q] My Google Now voice has changed from a man to a woman. Has this happened to anyon

Self explanatory topic title really. I much preferred the guy's voice to the now American woman. Any ideas? All input and Google Voice Search settings are set to English -UK.

Happened randomly ?
In language and input, change your phone language to UK English

"OK Google" on the homescreen on N4 in KK (4.4)?

I've read review sites which say that the feature is only available on the N5 but I swear somewhere I've read that people using the port on the N4 have got it working so I wonder, is it possible to get the "OK Google" to work on the homescreen? I know it's there when we swipe to the left but I mean always listening while on the homescreen style?
Thanks
EDIT: I was using the AOSP version last night with GAPPS and today tried the "updated" N5 port and can't see it on either, I'm located in Australia and phone's set to UK and using AU languages but not sure if that affects it?
Tasker Autovoice
Check out this video on youtube

this guy also has a video on tasker shell scripts.

Use the official Google launcher, which come with the kitkat gapps. It won't work on third party launcher. You also have to go into Google Search setting and download and enable the US offline speech recognition package. Make sure you select US as the default language.
It works great on the N4, you need to use the "Launcher" with the blue house icon, you need to be using the US settings and if it doesn't show a prompt on the search bar saying "Say OK Google" then it's probably not working, that won't stay on all the time though.
you have to use the google search properly installed one
and set the language to U.S English
and then try
i saw it in some video that even on Nexus 5 this needs to be done to work with google on homescreen "OK Google"
Definitely check if you have set the language to English US...
Greetings
Nils
Thanks everyone, I changed the language to US english and the search bar changed over to having the text right away, not too happy using U.S. but I guess I can add the U.K. spellings to the dictionary (there aren't many http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/british-and-american-spelling) and now it's defaulting to showing the temperature in fahrenheit instead of celsius so will have a look at that at work
Click on the 3 stacked dots on the weather display select yes, yes , Celsius
