what format are you guys watching your movies in for best and highest quality and what are you guys using to convert.
Personally, I don't convert anything.
All of the video files on my PC are avi's and Vplayer plays them without a hitch.

Thanks in advance.

without knowing the codec of the other video I can't help you, .avi doesnt't tell me anything, that's just the container, download mediainfo and paste the info it gives you from the video file
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
give it a try using rockplayer, it should be able to play anything that the stock player can't.

Dude, make your life simple, go to the market and download Rock player. It is open source and it is based on ffmpeg. It can play virtually everything. I am currently playing Mkv files on my Vibrant. ;-P

Transfered a few avi files and the sound is well out of sync tried playing on in built player and real player. Spec does say avi files can be played hence why I've not changed the format. Any ideas?

YXPlayer isn't worth the time or effort...... Rockplayer all the way! Imagine TCMP from the WinMo days albeit without the functionality. Plays practically every format you will ever need it to at good framerates.
Regards.
Rock player on software decoder perfect just shame you have to buy it to get rid of nags will test it out before I fork our $9. 99

I have been reading a lot over the best file type for this phone, which is said to be .mp4 but when I convert my movies to .mp4 in play back it's cut off, meaning I doesn't use the fullscreen even after stretching it, but when I use .avi it fits in perfectly the problem with .avi ia that out makes the file sizes to big and some movies I can not transfer. I have tried a lot of different things just wondering if anybody has solved the problem.

You have to properly encode the video here is detail explanation with HD profile of what your mpeg4 video output should look like in *.mp4 format. You don't need to convert it with any other A/V codec as mpeg4 containers is sufficient if done correctly. I always encode my videos for mobile device before I transfer it thats another reason it looks good.
Codec: X264 2 Pass
Resolution: 800x480
Bitrate: 128kbps
Crop: 5:3 (1.667)
I will try. What video conversion software do you use?
I don't get the option to change the crop with the 2 that I use
Check your PM, info sent.
Thanks!!
Thanks a lot man! I gave credit where its due, i'm converting now.
Enjoy buddy lol this saved my life as you watch video in HD with no audio or video out of sync. The quality of the video is only subjected to the orginal input of the file. Most folks IRL always ask me how come they can't make videos like that lol thats another reason I win the brag war saying my phone is smarter than your phone.
Dude this program is awesome our even inserted subtitles for me.

Hello. There is a problem in my video player. The sdcard has two videos by default, tutorial.mp4 and xperia.mp4. The videos can be played before the upgrade (android 1.6). One of the videos (xperia.mp4) cannot be played anymore after updating to eclair. Video codec changed or something? Thanks!

I cannot post outside links. Maybe because I'm new here.
I'll just send you a message for the link.
It worked fine with me.

Do you guys really need those videos? Cuz i don"t see anything usefull one them.. xD
Anyway, just try to convert to mp4, using the video converting option on atube catcher or any other app to convert videos.. that should work

Yeah its not that useful. Just wondering why the video is not playing anymore. It is working prior to eclair, some codec might have changed to render it non playable. And if you have some video with the same codec properties, it will not work too.

Both.
You can also download QQPlayer from Market, and it'll work.
Quality of videos is soo Gud than other ROM player
I also have Xperia X8 it plays all types of MP4 files without any problem. But Quality of videos in offical player in Eclair 2.2 ROM is too Gud than any another ROMS. It plays only in Landscape mode its also a gud feature.
Guys this thing is intriguing me, i cant natively play divx avi files? My LG 2X does it, how come my tablet with an huge screen don't?

Another thing you could do which some people have tried is to change the file extension to mp4, which will play with the native player. I think DivX is just a 'container' format which contains MP4 video so it should work in theory, although I haven't tried this on my TF myself.

Tried that, wirh this video specifically it plays the first 3 seconds insanely fast and with no audio and then finally stops playing.

plenty of players out there for DIVX/XVID. I think some manufacturers just bundle extra players or codecs. i dont think support is in 'native' Android.

+1 Rockplayer. They just had a release solving Android 3.1 registration issues, works like a champ!
I'd go with MoboPlayer.
Interesting to know as am planning on picking up a Transformer and wanted to know this myself.

1080p video encoded using the DivX (or XviD) codec is really inefficient. It's going to be a lot larger file size or of lower quality than a more modern codec like h.264. If you'd like to play 1080p video on your transformer, you'd be best to transcode your video to an h.264 video stream. Not only will the file size be much smaller, but it will play back using hardware acceleration which is much more likely to be smooth than software rendered DivX.
Rockplayer, Moboplayer, etc are all the same thing. They're just containers for ffmpeg--which is the best free software decoder available. Pick the one that has the best interface and is free. Paying for any of these is actually against the law, and while you're not going to get in any trouble, it's stupid to pay for something that should be free.
