Nexus S 4G and Evo 3D coming to sprint.. - Hero CDMA General

I can't wait!

Ditto. I've been sitting on my upgrade since October waiting for this. Seeing some speculation that its LG's Optimistic 3D with the Evo name....hope its HTC personally.

ha...I meant Optimus

you know the EVO 3D will be a HTC phone....
Even the Nexus S 4G sounds wonderful to me....

Yess......I can't wait...I have too been sitting on an upgrade since October and im ready for another phone.. The hero was great but the processor is just not fast enough to keep up with android OS the way it should be run. I'm so happy! I knew sprint had something up there sleeves after the disaster at CES (only dropping the shift)

Well, they better not disappoint!! (again).. Im really looking forward to this.
I am in exactly the same boat as all of you. I've been up for an upgrade since October.
BTW... what are you guys planning to do about your upgrade if this phone is released in June?
Can you chime in on my thread about an upgrade at this link?

I'm pumped and I hope HTC does the EVO 3D, not LG. I did read about Qualcomm's new dual core chip and its supposed to blow away the Tegra 2 in performance and battery life. If LG does do the EVO 3D, then I'm going with Nexus S.

well i would choose HTC before LG but either way.....and the nexus s is good but what is the performance compared to tegra 2(assuming LG has the Evo with tegra 2...and again if it is the LG)

huge fan of htc phones so i really hope its going 2 be htc. sense is unbeatable. the optimus is good but doesnt compare

htc sense all day. beats all other UI's

Well, I wonder if Sprint will make a special request of Samsung, like they did with the Epic, and have a Nexus S with a external storage. I would consider one, then. You know as there new dev unit, google and the devs here will be blowing that thing up. I just wish it wasn't a Samsung.

I qualified for upgrade since 11/1/10 and im elegible was wondering if after april 1st I'll keep my elegibility or will start from 0 .

yeah nexus s 4g NEEDS a memory card slot

If its the LG 3D phone then I think its powered by TI's OMAP4 SoC which from what I understand about it, blows pretty much everything out of the water, and uses significantly less power than other options.

I was an Nexus-One owner, loved the phone, but hated T-Mobile, too many dropped calls, and very poor building penetration around Chicago, inside skyscrapers and Basements T-Mobile drops dead. So I made the switch to Sprint and picked up the EVO 4G the first week it came out, and loved it. Never drop a call, and this phone works great in my Basement office, and inside buildings, where my two previous T-Mobile phones never worked ( Blackberry 9700 + Nexus-One )
But I got tired of the brick size feeling of the EVO, and poor battery life, even though I am rooted with custom ROM that helps double my battery life, it is pretty still bad. So I got the itch for the Nexus-S when it first came out, I said F. it, going back to T-Mobile to get this Nexus-S. I just LOVED the Nexus-S, great light featherweight, very compact and fits in pocket easily, the screen tech is beautiful, and 2.3 Gingerbread was great. It was by far my fav phone.
But after two weeks I returned it and came running back to Sprint and my EVO. It was not the fault of the Nexus-S, but the same T-Mobile issues I had 6 months ago with my Nexus-One and Blackberry, dropped calls, and **** connection when inside Basement office or deep inside tall buildings. For some reason Sprint is much better around Chicago if your in tall buildings.
So I think Sprint bringing the Nexus-S will be great, I will for sure get it. And it is good overall for the "Nexus" brand, gives it more exposure, and more accessories and stuff will be made for it. I think it would be cool if the "Nexus" brand just stayed with the non iPhone carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint. They say the Nexus is Google's version of the iPhone. So lets see the Nexus-3.0 come out at Christmas on both T-Mobile and Sprint only, and be the baddest ass phone ever created, and market the **** out of it to destroy the iPhone5

You will start from zero unless you have an individual plan that costs $89.99 or more a month, family plan that is $179.99, or been with Sprint for at least 10 years.

Sprint removes Epic from top of list

Sprint used to stick the EVO and Epic up top above even their cheap phones when you looked at the phones for sale on their website.
Now the Epic is near the bottom with the expensive phones. The EVO Shift has taken its place, but the EVO is still at the top.
If there were any lingering doubts as to how Sprint felt about the Epic vs. other phones in their lineup, that should be gone now.
Not sure why they moved it down, especially since they dropped it down to 199.99 from 249.99 (after rebates of course). You would think they would want to showcase the price drop.
yep I saw that too , not sure though if were looking too much into it. I try not to worry about things like that.
It's been clear from the start that the epic is a throw away product to sprint. I've owned an epic since a few days after launch and I've only ever seen one single ad for it. One. Meanwhile there are evo commercials still running in prime time.

I think Sprint either has some sort of deal with HTC or they just don't like Samsung. It was the same way with the Hero vs. the Moment. The Hero was darling and the Moment was an afterthought.
Out here in Los Angeles they have a lot of ads for the epic. They were made by samsung and talked about the multi media ability of the epic and had a big epic movie theme.

Do you remember the ORIGINAL galaxy s pro specs?
4" SAMOLED
1ghz hummingbird
16GB internal memory
1GB RAM
Hdmi-out
Now what would've happened if sprint released that phone right after blowin so much cash to market the EVO's "massive [8GB] memory, fast [sub-par] processor, and "gorgeous" [lol] screen?
Also, the evo's hdmi out was a big selling point because it was the only one with it.
Everyone would've definitey picked epic over evo when the specs were listed side by side, but sprint would've lost a lot of marketing money so they gimped it
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I def feel Sprint keeps the Epic on behind the Evo in terms of marketing. Not so much with their other phones because the other phones market to a different segment. I'm in the philly burbs and I can't recall a single Epic TV ad but there are tons of Evo ads on TV and internet. And when the Epic got it's push on Sprint's website, it was always featured in concert with the Evo. Never on it's own (save for the super lame ad they had over the summer that displayed features that any smart phone can do)

It's not completely Sprint's fault [regarding the **** in the site]. They are controled by market push and they have to respond to what there providers give them, and what they agree to sell.
In this case, the Epic / Evo phones have been around for 6+ Months, and new inventory has rolled in, they have the presure of the phone providers to make space for (NEW) stock.
And if anyone ask, though I'm a communications SFC right now in the Army, I worked with Orange [France Telecom], Vodafone and Duch Telecom for many years, and I know how the game is played internally when it comes to hype new product and decomm phones that have been in the market for X amount of time. Its a shift of power and money driven by the market and phone manufactures.
ok the epic is back where it suppose to be....that better
I've seen dozens of ads for the epic. Keep in mind this is on Hulu but still they pushed hard when it launched.
And what is Sprint going to sell besides the EVO or Epic? Nothing else comes close to either model for Sprint.

One reason would be because the Evo is Sprint's biggest selling phone. It's still on backorder in a lot of places. I've been waiting over a month for my replacement to come in. Had to wait 7 weeks when I broke the screen on my first one. Where as I walked right into the Sprint store & picked up 2 Epics same day with no problem & had one replaced with only a 3 day wait. The Epic isn't as popular a phone as some of you may think it should be. Fact of the matter is, even though the Evo is 6 months old it is still in high demand & seen with high regard as the the only really legitimate iPhone contender in Sprint's lineup. They are hoping to continue that trend by cashing in on the Evo name brand by moving the Evo Shift to the top of the list. The Epic while a good phone & marginally better specs doesn't carry that same appeal with consumers. Add that into Samsung's refusal to come out with timely updates and the Epic lands itself at the bottom. By the time the Epic finally gets Froyo, if ever, HTC will be rolling out Gingerbread to the Evo & Shift and/or be ready to drop their next big Android flagship. Samsung should stick to HDTV's IMO. They have shown that they don't fully get the smartphone community.

As much as I'm an "Epic Fanboi" and really don't like the Evo, I really hate to admit it, but I believe you're right... (Except for the "marginally better specs" part)... The Evo was the first flagship device and Sprint's riding that train to the bank. They're now even showing commercials:
"here's something nice that was said about the Evo... and Here's the next Evo.. the Evo Shift" garbage.. they're capitalizing on the "Evo" name like Verizon did/does on the "droid" moniker.
And us Epic lovers are left in the dust. :/

I completely agree
It's all about marketing. I don't think it has anything to do with like or dislike. The evo shift is the newest smartphone out so of course they are going to push and advertise it. They want the public to know about their new product so they can sell it. I'm no marketing expert but that makes sense to me why they are advertising it a lot.

True to a point but why not advertise the Epic? I've seen one commercial in slight rotation about the Epic since its release. It's been almost 6 months now. This was supposed to be Samsung's flagship phone. I don't by the Sprint/HTC partnership thing either. Sprint has always sold HTC phones going back to the Apache for me. But the Samsung Instinct was it biggest selling phone before the Pré & now Evo. Even the Moment sold pretty good but just not as good as the Hero. I think Sprint is starting to learn their lesson about Samsung from all of the complaints & bad press they got over the Instinct & Moment. Samsung has great hardware & ideas but constantly falls short on follow thru. Has happened with every big phone they have put out.

Thinking About an EVO..

I was wanting to upgrade my GSM Hero to the Desire HD, but do not have the cash at the moment.. lol, sooo, my sister is with Sprint, and i was looking at the EVO 4G, and, it seems like the same phone pretty much? I was just wondering what input the wonderful people at XDA have on the EVO? thank you^^
You will get great feedback on it for sure, but how do you have the gsm hero (are you in europe) and trying to get the desire hd?
Anyways the Evo is a desire hd without the new look and without the new sense most of the stuff is the same , and is great device, is the only phone the hold me this long to get another One(I got it back in june 2010 when it came out ) and is the best android device in Sprint at the moment (sorry I hate the epic 4g) if you coming from the hero you will definetely feel it faster and better (specially cause of the processor and the big screen ) and they have offer online to get it at 150$ or maybe less on contract
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I am in the U.S. and i got the GSM Hero unlocked, and was going to do the same for the Desire HD, but.. at around $450.. I decided to have my sister put me on her plan through Sprint so i could get it a lotttt cheaper, I think i read it $199 after the mail-in rebate, so.. $299, and I don't think it is bad and i would have better service than T-Mobile.. -.-; (GSM Hero isn't compatible with their 3G....)
you should look for the EVO online .. can get it even cheaper.
there is a $125 additional credit if you qualify for porting from another carrier. search for the details.
The Evo is a great phone. Giant screen, fast, smooth, efficient, excellent developer support (if you ever want to root your phone and flash stuff), it has 4g, there's a huge selection of good cases and accessories.
The bad?
Battery life
uhm
Battery life
but we're fixing that,
I figured battery life could be fixable with the right ROM etc.. Rooting it a difficult process? My Hero was crazy hard due to it being the first Android phone I touched, haha, and wouldn't the cheapest be through Spring? With the rebate and money off for the contract?

For what it's worth, I bought one on launch day and havent regretted it once. Even Sprint's customer service has been remarkable... which surprised me since I used them from 2000-2006 and it was always like dealing with "some guy" working out of the back of an old van...

The Desire HD is like a second generation EVO. Better display (SLCD), 50% more RAM, faster/more efficient CPU, a significantly better GPU, and way more internal storage.
At this moment it'd be kind of foolish to get a EVO. The newer HTCs are better, and their "real" next generation phones are just a few weeks away from being announced. TBH, the real handicap with the EVO is it's GPU and internal storage.
Well i paid for this month of T-Mobile, so it would be a couple weeks.. and Sprint is the cheapest way for me to get a new phone due to my sister being with them already..
I had the regular hero before the evo. I was happy with both.. Hero was al ittle dated tho.
You likely gonna get a more bias opinion here than anything else... but the EVO is a great phone. Of course it's fast and smooth and all that... but what makes it stand out IMO is the outstanding dev support for it.
The custom roms here range from Sense UI, to aosp like CM, even MIUI. I never tried MIUI but as far as the other roms, most are excellent. Smooth, awesome battery.. Devs constantly updating and making tweaks.
You also have a deep theme/mod section to play around with for the evo. The only knock I can think of is it is starting to slowly become dated.. but that doesn't at all make it a bad phone.

If Hero 2.0 had a dual core processor in it, how much would you like it then?
Why don't company's realize people like getting the 2nd 3rd and 4th version of things. Look at every apple product. Revise your product, add a number to it... How hard is this? By doing this you get closer and closer to a perfect device rather then creating new dislikes and problems.
I Agree with you term117. Rather than making new devices HTC should release the v2.0 of our Hero.
I was at a Sprint store about a week or two ago and they actually had one booted up and running on display, which is funny since they aren't supporting it with updates anymore... am I right? So for $50 you can purchase yourself something that the manufacturer and carrier deem outdated and not worthy of upgraded firmware.

You have to have something that people actually "like" first... which I think most people do like their Heros, and then you have to successfully make the change or leap without screwing it up. Personally I think the Hero should have less buttons. Just the four basic Android buttons would suffice, like the LG Optimus S.
I can sell you mine, I have a new EVO coming. Going to pre-order a Nexus too.. I am addicted...heading over to the Flashing Roms Everyday Anonymous Krew now. FREAK for short. lol

Not sure. I could care less about the 4G part, 3g and WiFi work just fine for me. Have to pay the extra $10 no matter what phone I get anyway (sucks, but what can you do) I have liked this phone ever since the T-Mobile one was released. I was about to switch from Sprint due to the lack of new phones until this and the EVO 3d were announced. EVO 3D not due out till summer but if the size of the phone remains the same, I would not be interested in the new EVO. Like talking on a brick. Don't flame me for that. I know all the specs on the new EVO. It is impressive but size does matter.

Yeah, but it just has a 1ghz processor and the 5mp camera on back is fine, but a VGA in front. It is a nice looking phone, it is like a Hero dressed in all black. I would just think would have went a little higher than the 1ghz processor and they should have at least put a 1.3 mp camera in front. Maybe I am just being too picky. I am alomst due for a new phone and the EVO 3d looks nice, except for the size dealy. I agree that Sprint is lacking in telephone department and I too have thought of just going to another provider, but then I lose my ARAMARK 18% discount.

Lol, that's what she said! *rimshot*
I've been seriously considering the nexus s, but those dual cores are a siren song for me.

I have to agree! Dual-core then I thought don't really use my phone in away that warrants one. Nexus 4G leading followed closely by the Shift(I believe they are getting them OC'ed to bout 1.5ghz.) just my Opinion
EVO 3D for me. I liked my Hero, but the first one had jogball problems in 3 weeks, the USB port went out in the 4th week and I replaced it with one day to spare on the 30 day exchange. I only got it because I wasn't going to pay the then 4G "tax" but now since I have to pay anyway, I'm going for it.

[Q] What kind of phone will you trade your evo in for?

I have always been one of those people who buys a new phone ever few months, I just never found that phone that did what I wanted to it to do How I wanted it to do it. Well Ive had my EVO since launch and have no plans on retiring it (even though the phone itself is being retired). It just does everything I need it to, takes good pictures (some require editing but what the hell) Works beautifully as my GPS with the Seidio car dock. Plays games (although I don't play games often) Oh..And it makes calls too.
So what kind of phone features would make you ditch your evo?
A new LTE phone for sprint

I dont know..maybe a Nexus Prime.
I just came from a Samsung Epic and I gotta say I miss they keyboard, but the Evo's huge screen pretty much makes up for that along with the HTC Sense keyboard which is definitely the best soft keyboard I've used as well as Swype. Also the Super AMOLED screen was really nice too.
So for something I'd trade it would probably be the Samsung Galaxy S II whenever it comes to Sprint lol it has a 1.2 ghz processor, 4.3 inch Super AMOLED+ screen, I believe an 8mp camera if not 5 mp (the Epic took some great pictures so I'd expect these to be great as well), and also it being thinner which is always good for me.
I've got four months until I am eligible for an upgrade so it's too soon to tell. If it's available when the time comes, probably an iPhone. If not, it'll probably be whatever the flavor of the week Android phone is when my upgrade time comes.
The only phone I'm interested in is the Galaxy S II. if it has a keyboard...heads WILL roll.
I'm waiting until a phone comes out one that blows the competition away like when the EVO 4g first came out

I traded my Evo for Photon 4g,very happy so far.

If! the so called rumors are true, I would consider the iphone.
For now my ugly ass evo with the extended battery does everything other dual core androids do(except have a damn case! stupid battery) so I could hold on to it until Q1 2012 or when LTE rolls out.

lets see android phones that blew away the competition
HTC Dream G1 (2008)
HTC Supersonic Evo 4G (2010)
so if the trend continues 2012?
unless I get an upgrade before 2012 I'll be waiting for summer 2012 to trade my evo in
Something htc in 2012. Like the option of sense and aosp
My upgrade just opened up today. I could rush to the store and get a Evo 3D or Photon 4G...but I'm waiting for the Galaxy S II which I guess is supposed to be called the Within. Like I've been drooling over this phone since it was announced. The Evo 3D did not impress me and I felt like it wasn't much of an upgrade over the OG Evo, and while the Photon is a very nice phone Blur is a deal breaker and I've heard the Pentile display isn't the greatest. The GSII just has everything...best display on the market, super thin, fastest processor on the market. And I like how it has a lot more onboard storage than the Evo does (things that would normally be on the SDcard will load faster, and my onboard storage on my Evo gets really tight with some of these massive Sense roms).
It better be released within August. While it just went through the FCC for certification for Sprint, Europe has had it for months. I am getting tired of waiting. Reason I am not waiting till next year for an LTE phone is because I doubt Sprint will even have an LTE network up and running next year. And if they do, it won't be until around this time or later in the year, and by that time I'll have another upgrade open.
Id get a Iphone...

I know... but I had on otterbox on the way before getting the battery (Sprint gave it to me for free) so I will see if somehow I can mod the otterbox defender when it gets here, if not I'll sell it and get the seidio.

HTC Evo 4G LTE for Sprint

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/04/htc-evo-4g-lte-preview-video/
Should have kept the One X name, association with the original Evo 4G is not necessarily a good thing.
Hmmm peoples problems with the One XL
No microsd card (Evo 4G LTE has it)
Bigger battery (Evo 4G LTE has it)
no camera button (Evo 4G LTE has it)
Hmmm anyone thinking of getting a One XL in the states might have to look elsewhere

Association with the original isn't a good thing???? Why isn't it?
I think the phone looks great, especially since they added a micro-sd card slot and a bigger battery!

I love my Evo 4G and My contract is up for renewal this october, I plan on rocking this bad boy.
Love it or hate it the Evo 4G is one of those devices like the G1, The Droid and the Galaxy S that have made a significant impact on where android is today. I'mm glad to see the Evo name continue
i honestly cannot wait any longer for this!
Am really happy about this phone. if sgs3 takes too long then am going with this. Also happy they have something better than apple, the camera is a killer, and i miss sense.
im happy about this device. I love how they reverted back to the old style of the OG evo yet kept the new one series look to. They merge together perfectly. And the specs are awesome too

Ohhh i'm willing to bet this will get CM9 as it seems to be a major device
Keeping the Evo line with Sprint seems to be a great idea. I like the kick stand. Looks bold!
Preorders start May 7, any guesses on how long after that before its released?
The back is the only thing bothering me with this refresh of the Evo line. I hope this renews my faith with the Evo line I was a huge fan of the 4g I had a 32g sd that was stocked with ROMS and apps for it I had never seen a phone with such a development following like the Evo 4g then came the 3D and that phone pissed me off I had it replaced 5 times and I'm still getting intermittent problems with the screen, audio issues but I'm done with continuing to go back and forth having a tech look at phone to only replace with a refurbished POS. let's hope this bring us back to Glory days of the original Evo 4g.

The updated post on Engadget quotes HTC as saying that it was a prototype when they were thinking of putting a 3D camera in the One X. They decided not to, in the end.
Upgrade in June AND August!!!! 2 of my 3 lines will have this phone!
My 3vo got Mean today, V3.4!
I may get one, why you may ask This is why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDxJoGv3FLA&feature=channel
