Eg, when using Task Manager on PC, i go to the CPU prosess tab and now im able to change the CPU priority of any program to: very high/high/medium/low/very low.
Can we do this with WM?
Rn
You can set the priority level of a thread, not of a process.
The system scheduler works quite different from desktop Windows. A thread with a priority level above normal can lock the entire system. An application must be designed very well if it want to change the priority level of one of its threads.
...
id like to 'trial and error'.
i understand the risk of locking the system = my own fault if it does.
but id still like to know your info about the system scheduler and changing the priorties please.
even if i cant get it to do what i want, ill still learn something new

ps, thanks for your reply

Here you find to both subjects a very good answer.
Just install dotfred's task manager, and set the priorities with it. If you screw up, it doesn't matter. A soft reset restores them to the stock configuration.

cheers dude, ill download and try it now.

i tried dot fred TM, but didnt like it though :/
cant i just add a .reg for each specific program that i want to have a higher cpu priority?
eg, something like this:
Dword="priority256", Value="XXX"
("XXX" = eg: "255" is normal priority)
???

Not that I'm aware of; this stuff isn't set in the registry, except for a few thread priorities for the file system that are in the boot.rgu, and aren't user accessible. You can get a program called Speedbooster that will automatically watch for specific processes opening, and will then adjust thread priorities to however you want them. Wait, I'll save you the time and money, because it sucks. It changes all thread priorities for a given process, and most of the time makes things worse instead of better. You're better off just doing it with a task manager manually for a while, and then giving up and realizing it's a waste of time. Lol.

Yeah i already found SpeedBooster on google but its not freeware, which cant be cooked into roms
I suppose it would be cool if someone develops an app dedicated to do this = no task manager, no nonsense, no nothing, just a simple small app which lets you select a program and set its priority.. Simples!

Basicly i wanted to increase the priority of Total Commander and Opera10 because their the main two programs i use. (probably the main two programs everyone uses.)
I think your right though dude, ill take your advice and give up now before i do waste my time, my precious ORD time! lol
Cheers dude!

I tried increasing the priorities of PIE and UCWEB with sppedbooster, and the problem is that it slows down finger-scrolling dramatically, to the point that the browsers were unusable. You can make a sppedbooster package, but just not distribute it. I cooked it in for a while, when I was determined to convince myself I hadn't blown twenty bucks on a piece of crap.
Why do you need to speed up total commander? I use it all the time, too, and it's pretty snappy. I'd suggest limiting the number of processes and not using manila to optimize speed.

i wanted to speed up total commander because its slow at accessing some folders eg, accessing the windows folder, there is a lag i dont like waiting for and increasing the cpu priorities for TC would reduce this lag
ive deleted the manila package, it eats up way too much storage/ram, so iv made my own skin for a today screen, which is aprox 1mb.
obviously manila is eye candy but im prepared to loose it for the increase in storage/ram.
i also didnt want manila in my rom due to the fact i dont actually like it, ok some stuff is cool eg, album and audio manager the way they rotate and the slide effect but its so gdam popular so most roms look the same, i wanted my rom to be differant. (i didnt want to be a sheep )
you gave me an idea for increasing the touch velocity of the finger scrolling, could anyone tell me whats the highest velocity were able to use?
(both up and down velocities? )
is there one for left and right?
(obviously there must be, but do you know whats it called so i can find it?)
thanks again dude!
Rn
The easiest way to speed up access to the windows folder is just to select 'hide files in rom' in the settings. Then you can get into it quickly. Looking at rom files is pretty useless most of the time, anyway. The downside is that TC then doesn't show the plugins folder in the device root. You can also set shortcuts on the hotlist to folders you might want to access, like startup or the start menu. Finally, you can just limit the number of rom files during cooking to speed things up; the fewer the better, obviously.

id rather have everything viewable in the rom rather than to hide files, useless or not. im sure everyone else would probably do the same, that way you can see exactly what you have got.
i also like to have hidden files always viewable on my pc too. eg, in my kitchen nothing is hidden, ive went through every folder and almost every file has had its hidden properties removed, including the files that dont un-hide when using the hidden files toggle on pc, which was weird
the plugin folder is one of the main functions i use TC for as i dont use regedit.exe or any other registry viewer other than TC. so i wouldnt want to be dissabling that function, if i dissable it i may as well add fexplore.exe back into the rom and use that instead
yeah, thats one of the good things about TC = the ability to create shortcuts with the >>>, however i always make them myself with a good old .txt file with the link wrote inside
agreed, the less files the better, obviously lol
at the moment my rom for blackstone is 103mb ... storage is aprox (18 - 20mb) ... ram is aprox (40 - 50mb) in use after the initial first boot and customisation.
ill search my kitchen for the finger velocity up/down scroll tonight.
if i can improve the scroll ill be nbecause the scroll is really crap!
Rn
btw:
if anyone wants to Alpha test my rom then private message me because i wont be uploading it for public use untill its Beta.
im just finishing the today screen skin but ill start letting people Alpha test it after that.
(basicly to find bugs, recomendations bla bla bla.)
I totally forgot this, but the process manager in sk tools has an option to create shortcuts with a command line that will change priorities. You could create one for total commander, and then use a mortscript that would launch TC, maybe wait a few seconds, then run the shortcut to bump up the priority.

Re:Best software for WM5.0 to date...by far!!
Hi all. I cannot take credit for the best bit of software I have come across since purchasing my Jasjar. All credit most deservedly goes to sub69 for pointing me in the right direction. 8)
Read this thread to understand why:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30412
Like most people on this forum, I joined xda-developers to solve my own problems whilst trying to help others solve theirs if I am able. I've been cursing left right and center for 3 weeks now about the performance of the Jasjar even though i still love the device. However one of my big complaints related to memory usage/leakage as I believed it affected the jasjars performance and through many trials and errors and lows, I almost sold it due to feeling I was not getting what I paid for. I felt that the jasjar was slow and underperformed.
I retract all former negative comments I made in relation to it being slow. Whilst looking for a simple application (with a small memory footprint) that would close all running apps without the rigmaroll of hunting down the 'settings' tab .I tried several different programs and all fell short in one way or another...till now (including Wisbar Advance 2.4.1..., Spb 3.0.1 and MagicButton (small footprint))!
Sub69 pointed me in the direction of GSPocketMagic and claimed it was the most stable program he had tried. Thought I'd give it a go too. Am I over the moon that I did.
This software does EXACTLY what it says it does.....well for me anyhow. Even better, it very much appears to have ironed out alot of my performance/speed issues with the jasjar! It has sped up browsing of the O/S and access to applications and gives me greater control of navigation in a simple manner. For me it has been Rock solid. I've only been testing it for about 5 hours+, but it hasn't slowed down once and has not dropped below 12MB of Program memory (I started with 27MB) & it maintains its speed whilst I upurposely ran 12 programs simulatneously (including video, music, photo slide show, word mobile, powerpoint, resco radio etc..)and then connected to wi-fi, surfed the net (faster I might add -not the loading of new web pages, but of cached ones) and posted on this forum. Almost Everything has improved by at least 30% or more (speed gain) and whilst I still get some jerking in high res 640x480 vid playback, it too seems more stable.
I don't understand how this has happened. All I had previously installed was TCPMP and Resco radio ! :?
Bearing in mind I had even overclocked my jasjar (no longer needed) with PocketHackMaster 2005, which, for me, did not yield results as favourable as this has.
The only logical conclusion I have been able to come up with is that GSPocketMagic has overridden some default settings/application that was somehow holding my Jasjar back! Overridden a bug in other words & this seems possible as it loads first after a soft reset, therefore taking precedence over anything else that may have usually performed some of its functions. Anyway that's just a theory.
For anyone like sub69 who have experienced relatively few problems with their universal, you might not notice any difference, but for anyone who is still suffering performance issues, I urge you to try this. You have nothing to loose & no of course I don't work for the company. I've just had to wait 3 weeks to start seeing the manifestation of the beast I believed the Jasjar was supposed to be.
Sorry about the long post people, but I've shared in alot of the misery many of you have been complaining about & at £700 it's about time we got some positive results.
thanks again to sub69. 8)
I can confirm that this programme is small and perfectly funcitonal for closing apps. If you're battling with PocketPlus for some reason, then this is definitely the way to go.
So do you have a URL where I can download it from?

Hi, is it possible to use it without replacing the current Today page and Start Menu?
Which CAB file do I install?
Yes, there's an option to set the 'click' to open the "Start Menu" (the default is "Menu") You could then set "Tap & Hold" to close all tasks or maybe to open the GSPM++ Menu.
I use "GSPMagic.xscaleE.cab" for the english version.
Here you go. A bitmap to use instead of he built in WM2002 windows flag.

Where do I put this? The current program's bitmaps are all together in one file.
Are other people finding this program somehow magically overrides some settings or bugs?
Do I have to keep closing tasks to keep up good performance?
This is the only button you can change as far as I know. Put it anywhere, and on the Basic tab of the GSPM++ settings screem, choose Bitmap as the Image, and browse to the saved .bmp
I don't have to keep closing tasks, but mackaby may have a different opinion on this, as he was having more problems with the JasJar's performance in the first place?

Put in anywhere you like, then go to the menu: start-option-setting. Change to Bitmap and point to your new start menu bitmap.
The less programs you keep in memory, the better the performance, so close your apps instead of building up in mem.
Ok Sub69, you where there just before me.......tnx for the nice bitmap!
WM 2005 was supposed to deal with this issue. But I find that the build in close button of WM 2005 does not close at all. Amazing MS didn't find a solution for this problem yet.
The great thing about GSPM is that it also closes the phone application, where Magic button cannot deal with this properly.

Quite true, that was the case for me, but no more. It doesn't really matter wether I close down applications or not, my speed is always up, unless I run videos at the same time in windows media player and TCPMC (that was accidental by the way).
Like I said, it's worked for me, and I had performance issues. If you don't have any, maybe you you won't see any improvement in performance, but it is still a very useful and stable application.
Oh, don't get me wrong it definitely speeds things up a bit for me too. It's only when you mentioned it that I really noticed though. I've been installing and uninstalling so many different things it's hard to keep track of what might be making a difference!!
Anyway, it's the best task manager I've used on my JasJar, and the performance boost is a welcome bonus!
Two Soft keys issue is back!
Small problem, some of us have noticed that the 2 soft keys keep dissapearing and reappearing after soft-resets. I thought I had this sussed last night, but I was wrong. It's my only issue with this software but not enough to put me off it.
mig31 suggested we might contact the developers of the software, as they would more than likely be able to fix this quicker than we could. I second that.
Gotta work at the mo, but unless someone else is willing to get in touch with the developers of GSPocketMagic, I'll get around to it in the week and post the outcome of our communications. Otherwise, all's well with this app.
I just wish I cud understand why (and if) it speeds up the device, even if u dont close apps. I'm a bit dubious if it's actually doing anything otherwise, without some benchmarks :S
if anyone finds gs++'s source code, please pm me.
V
I noticed that the 2 bottom soft keys disappear when you click "Close all". May be there is a way to add this in the "Exlude task Close" somehow
MAJOR EDIT: Started over, I need fresh ideas!
I'm bored, I got Basic4PPC andI want to make a little freeware app. Seeing how much people wanted another unit converter, I dropped the towel before entering the shower (pushing the metaphor to far...) and decided to consult the experts.
What would be THE best idea for a Pocket PC application? I was thinking about a small app to launch many applications from a single hardware button with some cool UI and all, but it's been down quite a couple of times.
I don't think that a unit converter can be sold easily... I mean: I don't need it, and if I would: there are so much freeware alternatives.
And about your goals:
- only one file... why?
- Try to make it modulair: easier to extend
sounds like a good idea, but why not have currency converter, in fact what would be a cool idea is if it can download a table of exchange rates on startup so that it gives you an accurate conversion figure.

I agree, who would buy a unit converter... for instance I use google to convert for me on my phone. Easy and fast to use. I don't really know why I would need to convert a number fast.
I chose a unit converter for ease of use, but since the project is a day old or so, it's the right time to tell me what to make!

No I think if you want to make something which you want to sell, you have to come up with the ideas yourself
I think you start at the wrong side. First think about what you want to make (what are you missing at the moment on your phone?), then try to create it and when it's finished you can always decide what to do with it. (shareware or freeware).
The thing is that most of the things are already available freeware.
I don't quite correspond to the typical PDA user. I'm 15 years-old, part time worker...
I can get ideas myself, but I can't really know what the average user wants. The best thing I can of right now would be a hardware button launcher.
When you'd press the button you'd be presented a big touch keyboard from which you could filter the available apps. It would launch the app then close itself. Good or no good?
Timesheet application?
Well, since you asked... This is the only app I used on my old palm device that I have not been able to replace on my PPC. It is a simple timesheet program that allows the user to record time spent on definable projects.
I have tried several of the commercial programs out there and they are all too complex or geared more for billable time and invoice generation. I just need something simple. The PALM program was freeware and can be seen here.
If you are interested in giving this a try I will be glad to give some more details on the desired functionality. The PALM program was not 100% of what I needed, just the best fit from what I could find.
Interesting. I actually made something similar in one of my Palm apps (which was never finished because I switched to WM).
I'll have a look at that. I'll try it as a filler, waiting for a great project.
P.S.: your themes are awesome!
That would be wonderful! The biggest things I would need are below:
Multiple projects with name and number (13 digit)
Ability to delete project from available list but keep past history
Day and Week summary view reports
Easy selection / clock in / clock out on main screen
Those are the main things. There are lots of ways to do this and I have ideas, but part of the fun of coding is UI design and code structuring. If you decide to take this one please let me know. I will be very happy to test for you.
Woah, calm down, I'm only about to complete the table. It looks like the screenshots for Timesheet right now (without final total, project selection and "today" button).
what about an app that can install automatically and in silent mode a big list of cabs. we should just have to select the destination : phone storage or sdcard. it would make reinstalls easier after rom updates .....
perhaps it already exist, i don't know ...
PROGRESS!!!
The thing is now useable! It saves date, in time, out time and calculates the difference between the two. When you exit it save your current data to load it when you launch.
Looks like this:
Date In Out Time
08/08/2008 17:15 17:20 00:05
And it adds one row for each in/out.
Sample coming soon.

I am impressed. Then again, I don't have a WM dev environment. It is running fine so far on my P4300 WM6. Thanks for taking this on! There is nothing out there right now that is simple and clean.
I'm about to cancel all that crap right now. After a hard day of work, it was all made useless because Basic4PPC can't freakin' handle tables as it should. Thus instead of getting the standard plain white tables with grey headers, I get some ugly dark gray filling where there is no data. Then thing get even uglier when scrolling is needed. That kind of crap is enough to make me quit.
Unless you guys can get me something actually worth its price, forget about my app, I'm too pissed off to continue and all the files went straight to the bin.
I did about 3 hard reset to the phone (for testing purposes), and all the sudden the myfavs program does not appear after I did the hard reset the 4th time, I did the hard reset about 2 more times and it did not restore the myfavs program (it suppose to back to its factory settings)
Now I keep getting "your myfaves contacts have been restored" text message every time time I turn on the phone (keeps pilling up with this same text message)which your suppose to only get once.
under the memory setting; storage & program seems to have the exactly same file size as when i had myfavs before.
What can I do? all I want is the default factory settings.. help me.
Hah! You survived longer than I did with it. I hard reset once just to clean my phone up before I started messing with anything (messing with the ROM, etc.) and the MyFaves app disappeared completely from the little tray bar at the bottom and the Today Screen.
Interestingly if you dig around with the file browser in the \windows\ directory I can see all the MyFav5 related applications, but nothing launches.
I'm tempted to try the RUU but to be honest the MyFaves program just ate a ton of memory and resulted in me calling people on accident when I had the Today Screen Plug-in active. So as long as the plan still gets accounted correctly (read as: I don't get charged for calling my 5 people),I don't really care.
I thought I'd let you know you aren't the only one out there with the exact same problem. I would like a solution but it isn't mission critical for me.
I found a solution to your problem. I'll do some more testing later. For now:
Could you look in your \Windows\ directory of your phone and tell me what "My*" applications and files are listed there? (You might have to make the basic file explorer show all files by using Menu>Show All Files).
All the "My" files that are in windows directory (revised & no file missing or mistyped). The some files are repeated to I placed the filesize next to them.

My5Service.exe is the key application. I wanted to make sure you had all the bits to the MyFaves program. The reason you see duplicate names with different file sizes is that the File Explorer program that you have on your hand held suppresses extensions of files for whatever idea.
Now then to fix your problem you are going to need to edit the registry of your device (I used total commander, the .CAB is in one of the Useful cab threads).
A key is missing from the registry after hard reset. WOO!!
Go to \\registry\\HKLM\init\ (using total commander's akward directory structure style)
You then have to add a new key, I used "Launch94" as I was noticing most of the T-Mo crapware was using the Launch9# series of keys
Then edit the key's data to be: My5Service.exe (Must be spelled correctly)
Basically what you did was add in a registry key that tells windows to load up the MyFaves service at boot so all the my faves apps will initialize properly. Putting My5Service.exe into the \windows\startup\ folder doesn't work (I tried it initially).
Soft reset and the phone will act wonky for a second as it is refreshing itself, don't panic. A box popped up saying "MyFaves display set to ON" and all was well at that point.
Then, since you want factory default I'd just remove Total Commander using the add/remove programs feature.
Good lookin out!!!
thanks alot, it did it and it worked.
I made an attemp to reformat the phone again, and myfavs appeared. Funny How I never managed to get that total commander for this phone. Lol im an experience user with registries (now gonna experiment with the register editor an tweak the phone to make phone faster and remove useless I don't need)
Thanks lot you have been helpful and gave fast support!!
Ah well no insult to your ability or experience was meant. I try to be as specific in my write ups as possible so others who might have the same problem can understand the solution, regardless of ability. Tends to make my life at work a lot easier when I do that so it's become a bit of a habit.
Glad it worked for ya and I'm actually surprised it survived another format. But hey all it says is there is some glitchy code in the re-install portion T-Mo has built.

By the way, let me know what tweaks you try. I'd be interested in them myself.
Good seeing people help each other out. The speed tweaks are everywhere, but to remove things you have to recook and flash your phone. (Alternatively, you can flash one of the many available ROMs our cooks have already made or made a custom one based on my own through the link on my signature.)
i got a quick Question how about trying to add it to a already cooked rom is that possible ? bc i love the PDAVIET-ROM BUILD 20931.1.5.0.PV(uploaded) rom but the myfaves tab dont work
does anyone have the my faves.cab?

Hey guys,
I want to know what cool program, functionality, or software you would like to see created. I am a .net programmer (among others) and would like some ideas of projects you would like to see. I would like to stay away from a graphic intense program and involved games, so think functionality, usefulness, fun, etc. If I get some good ideas, I will then add a poll, vote on the best one, then build it. I will release it under my donationware license which means it will be free. Right now I am finishing up my Golf Gps program (and will continue to support), but will start this project once we get it deceided. So Shoot me your ideas!
Gudy
cool a programmer who need ideas
I have proposed something here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434925
though it would maybe not appear as a grateful program for a developper ( a toolkit for other programs), it could be a good way to have a large diffusion through many config panels in different programs
it was just an idea

Hi,
Maybe simple for .NET, but for me impossible to do (without performance/battery penaulty) with basic4ppc or mortscript. And thats all I can handle.
What I would like to have is a program that enables me to execute programs when specific events occur. I'd like to know when AC power gets connected/disconnected, when there is a change in screen orientation, and when a headset gets connected/disconnected and so on. Maybe even when an internet connection through WIFI is available/unavailable.
Also I'd like to know is a specific BT device is connectable/conneted. I'd like to know if a specific WIFI network is connectable/connected. I'd like to know if I'm at a specific location. All event driven, without a performance consuming programing loop or battery drain.
Yeah, all or even some of those options would make my digital mobile life so much easier
Good luck huntig for input, if you ever get bored contact me and make me happy
Cheers,

Doable, handy, not a massive undertaking, I like it! Not sure I would go the .net route on something like this, as really a GUI is not required (except for settings maybe) and the overhead is large with .net. Certainly will add it to the list. Keep them coming!!

cool a programmer who need ideas
I have proposed something here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434925
though it would maybe not appear as a grateful program for a developper ( a toolkit for other programs), it could be a good way to have a large diffusion through many config panels in different programs
it was just an idea

This would be pretty difficult unless all of developers used the same programming langauge/technique. The only real feasable way I see this working would be developers using a common set of graphics. That would be more of a graphic undertaking instead of programming. I do like the idea, but pretty hard to impliment.
Thanks

I would love to see something like Launchy for launching apps and files etc. as well as quick search of various types online. I'm guessing the on the fly search would require too much processing power, but if it's doable it would be awesome.
http://www.launchy.net/
I'm interested in new ideas too. I also use B4PPC.
Here's a few ideas:
-A tamagotchi, really. I was about to try this out tonight but Paint hates me.
-An app launcher like PetitLaunch on PalmOS. It's something that can pop from any app (hardware button) and when you type in extra letters it filters which apps are shown. I got this started and I can give you the files if you want.
-Pursue the development for Tippy. The source is on Nicbou.com/downloads if you want it.
-A time clock. A friend of mine notes down how long he works to make sure he doesn't get screwed and it takes him several minutes every week. He doesn't have a Pocket PC but maybe someone would be interested in something that tracks the hours you work and calculate the salary. I almost did this too.
And don't forget to share the source! If you need any help with B4PPC I'm here

Sounds simular to the app launcher listed in the next post, seems like there is a theme going on here, you all need some sort of good app launcher.
Gudy
I'd like the Launchy features for search-on-the-fly off on board apps and file launching, but ever more for different site searches (google, maps, wikipedia, live, youtube, Amazon, etc).

I had to look up tamagotchi, either I am too old, or just out of the loop to know that 10 million of these things were sold! Wow! That could be fun, but would take a pretty fancy AI type system to really be fun.
A form of Tippy is already out there, 1-calc has some of the features built in already.
A time clock could be cool, maybe a stop watch type thing perhaps?
Never used B4PPC, I mainly use C# and Visual Studio. It looks like the old Visual Basic for desktops. And last but not least, depending on the project, I more than likely will release the source.
Thanks!!! Keep'em comin!

File Explorer Needs Help
Has anyone wanted to see a preview image in explorer's folder??
I'm not talking about fexplorerext2. although it is a fantastic enhancement; it takes a long time to load the preview immages.
I have a better idea (well, actualy MS thought of it first)
THUMBS.DB
for every folder that has an image file, this dll is created to replace cache of images. this way ou do not have to load it everytime and scale them down for thumbnail view. it is already there specificaly for each folder.
This alows the explorer to show a preview of the first image in the folder (or last created/accessed)
This is whatt I think WinMo is lacking - windows. lol.
I do not care much for the tabbed browsing. it hurts my head. too much scroling and not enough info. Icons work better I think, and waste less space on an already small screen.
well, that's been on my wishlist for a very long time. a dll that ataches to the already existing explorer making it work better.
Thanks for workin g on something new
program that makes led lights flash when phone rings would be nice
Interesting...I will have to think about how to tackle that. It would basically take a new file explorer (like total commander). This might be a bit larger than I want to tackle, but will research it a bit before ruling it out.

This would be very difficult as not every device handles the leds the same. Also, not every device has the same leds (color, # of, etc). I think No2Chem has a int. driver, but think it is only for the titan. Would be cool though...

a system-wide launcher dock program like that on the velocity 103 PPC..
here's the URL for the review and video of the app (and the phone)
-------------------------------------------------------------
a new top bar replacemeent/notification system much like the "android Notification Drawer" it can replace the bubble (multiple) notifications icon when you got multiple and simultaneous notifications.. and also make it finger friendly (unlike M2D, no need to go back to homescreen to check email/sms previes and also calendar events, calls, etc.. also unlike big taskbar - from the touch phones, this'll have previews)

Fexplorer2 is basically a dll that works with the original file explorer context menu. there is a small exe that overwrites the original explorer to make it think that the explorer"s context menu has already been opened.
in a way it maybe possible to write a new dll and two exe
EXE 1 to replace the file explorer
EXE 2 to make thumbs db
DLL (conte4xt menu that alows to view as thumbnails/list etc ; as well as launching the second exe to make a thumbsdb)
maybe you can get some help from Hou Ming, the guy that made that program before.
it would be cool if you could get some of the old emus like pocket gba and pocket snes with window 6.1 I know i would be happy.

I have been looking for a program that would stop the music (S2P, Audio Manager, or WMP etc...) if during playback of the music the headset is removed. Or for instance, when the device is on vibrate and you connect headset, it automatically changes profile to normal or something.
Another one is when I dock my device (or connect AC basically), I'd like clock program (or home screen, or photo slideshow, etc...) to come up automatically.
A feature that I miss from my older phones is the ability to set them to beep every minute during a phone call.
Now these are very general and not specific features. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!
Thank you,

The launcher on the 103 looks a lot like manilla, I know it is diff, but to me it seems mainly by presentation, not functionality. I do however like the notification top bar like that on android. Not sure how difficult taking over the top bar would be. I will do some digging.

Can you give me a link to this? The only thing I could find (quickly) was sketchy at best. Still seems a bit much, but would like to know more about this Fexplorer2 thing before nuking the idea.

This project is about rebuilding the touch.dll coude from the original dll assembly.
Latest package:
touch.cab
For adding the "developers certificate" ( read side node on update 21/11/08 ) you can use the following tool:
Microsoft Security Configuration Manager
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 21/11/08:
Ive finally managed to rebuild the touch.dll from assembly and recompiled it and im able to boot the new touch.dll
Ive cleared some of the calls made to some old features implemented in the original file like the touch cube etc.
Be aware that this isnt for daily use and only for testing purposes. But I really need some input on speed and reliability because i cant test everything on my own ( i flash my device every 4 hours or so so not really long testing times ). If you are not affraid of hard resetting your device and are willing to participate in testing current work please do but dont keep me responsible for freezes etc
I have only tested it on udk R4 because its easy for me to test speed on manilla 2d and it gives me a good impression of daily usability. And because i removed almost all calls to the original cube code it wont be any good for cube lovers as and original HTC roms.
Keep in mind that all ive done now has been done during work in a few hours and although ive tried to be on the safe side i cant tell you all is working as its suppose to and I think i havent done more then remove about 20% of garbage out of it.
I know not all is as fast as its supposed to be but like i said im better safe then sorry and i dont wanna hardreset every 2 mins or so... Some good testing can be done in Manila2d like scrolling through images fast and scrolling through the bottom bar. Also ive noticed that scrolling through the normal "All programs" is still on the slow side ( still need to resolve a lot of scrolling issues... HTC has included a lot of codes for all sorts of winmo controls like listviews etc ) but if you open up the all programs in manila from the programs menu u will see what kind of speed it can work at minimum....
As for the priorities mentioned earlier in this thread im going to set both the priority256 and the priorityhigh256 at 109 ( original microsoft value that can be found at msdn ) in the cab file so we can test the touch interface as it was suppose to be set up... you can easily change these values as you like ( read earlier posts ). Setting it lower then 109 will give it an higher priority which will make the device suffer more from touch input... Setting it higher ( upto 255 ) will give the touch input less priority and will make rendering faster but can also come of the cost of reliability.
Side node:
Make sure your rom has the "Sample Privileged Developer" Certificate installed because i signed both the file as the cab with this certificate ( files need to be signed because of being system file and they dont get any trust at boot without a certificate ).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start 15/11/08:
Ok so because i didnt had much to do this week i started digging into the touch.dll to see if there can be some solutions to the slow scrolling/stuttering etc when touching the screen.
I already found out that the graphics stuttering mostly happens due to the fact that the touch.dll is set to real-time process priority.
WinMo uses priority values from 255 (low) to 0 (real-time).. Normally touch should be set at 109 ( according to msdn ), but because htc put so much garbage in it ( touchflo related ) and it got slow as #@% they put the priority to 0 as a default and deleted the registry entries
Using IDA i found out that those registry values are still being accessed but since they are not there the default of 0 is used.
Just create the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Touch
And create the following values in it
Name value (DWORD)
Priority256 255
HighPriority256 255
This will not speed up the actual scrolling but it will also not make the device freeze when pressing the screen... So scrolling seems more natural. ( especially in programs folder and file explorer )
So this is not a fix but a good start for now.
Already found out a few things looking at the code that can be dropped out so im going to try to rebuild the touch.dll from asm without most time expensive calls ( hopefully shrike will help me out on this one ).
Let me be the first to say thank you. I am not sure I did the things right, but my Polaris seems more alive than ever. I will post an exported regkey, please confirm that I've done it correctlly.
I have noticed an improvement in sliding in S2U2 and on everything that involves touching the screen. This indeed is a great step forward for Polaris.
Thanks for trying... As soon as development will progress ill create a cab file which will include the registry keys.
Big difference... great job,
I've noticed though that in icontact, when you scroll contacts, the animation has to finish so that it can accept new gesture, so i set it to 109, scrolling is still good and icontact work propertly..
Great find Rogro! Was irritating me how the graphic stutters whenever I scroll in programs and phonebook..
Just wondering though, if it was such a simple fix, why did they remove the reg key to begin with? as far as i can see, the impact on the processor speed seems really minimal..
I look forward to more of your discoveries..
Nice job! Performance is much better... but in the all programs list the icons all still flashing when scrolling, although its much less.
Thank you
Great job in all programme speed seems little better.
nice
thanx
Hey Rog,
Nice to see you're trying different things.
I looked at my HD but it didn't have the slowdown the Polaris has. But it also doesn't have the registry keys... so i added them and soft reset. Now, my HD's TFLO3D is really unresponsive and stutters... So maybe it's only for non-TF3D devices?
Thank's
It's working well in my M-Amine 2.0 Final Rom.
Here is the little Cab.
EDIT: If you install this cab or change the register by hand (Is the same) , the scrolling work well but maybe you will have problems with Igo, TomTom or destinator.
Please take that in your mind.
Thanks a lot Rogro!! It's wonderful for every application that uses touch scrolling.
Why do HTC engineers leave us alone with those awful bugs? Is it so difficult to add those 2 DWORD values?
Actually it fixes the screen response AND the All Programs scrolling in Manilla 2D
thanks for sharing rogro82.
cheers
Thanks rogro82.
It's working
BTW i've notice something,,maybe wrong.
When you scroll (very fast) in file explorer or program folder, stoping it(the scrolling) with a sigle tap it's not so easy. Or when you tap to stoping it ,then turning to another direction(up or down).
Also the icontact scrolling isn't good enough.
I use the "cbolumar" cab.

Thats because the scrolling is still way off in terms of speed... the only thing that happens when you change the registry settings is that it will not allow touch.dll to eat all resources and hang all other processes..
Maybe you could try to set it to 109 ( what it should be on a normal driver )..
I never use any gestures or whatever so setting it to 255 works for me for now until i can start cleaning code.
TomTom7 with these settings
Nice find. But in Tomtom7 something strange happens. I have to press the screen much harder then without these reg keys. I Use M-Amine's RTM rom.
Anyone else have this or is it just me having this bug?

The same bug for me with Navigon Mobile Navigator 7
kr.,
Frepke
Bug with IGO 8
The same for me , i have a lot of problems with the screen in Igo , the problem disappear after delete the register changes.
To delete this, you must go to the register and delete the new values by hand, not the touch entry but the priority entries.
Only uninstalling the cab is not valid because the driver is in use.
Thanks a lot!
It's like early Christmas!
It´s because of people like you that my Polaris is an increasingly awesome machine. Continuing like this in the near future it will teleport me from one place to the other!
Keep up the good work.
Don't ever leave us Rogro!
TT6 don't work
The screen is no usable.
I have delete all the key and now work well
