I just installed froyo JPF on my galaxy 3.
I installed update.zip on /sdcard/ to try and root my phone.
No mather what key combo i try (except for volume+home) it just boots as normal and doesn't offer to install the update.zip
Did i do anything wrong when installing froyo ?
Try flashing... seems like a much more tidy choice..
When you install Windows 7, don't you prefer doing a clean install, or do you just upgrade from a buggy and slow vista?
I did flash, i just try to root my phone with an updatezip file for froyo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682&page=296
Dowload the SuperOneClick! It's working.
which ROM you have flashed it with, there are many popular ROM's here which come pre-rooted, please check [ROM] Kyrillos' ROM v2.3
Finally i flashed my G3, with it, and the phone got new life
faster, smoother, attractive.
i never got super one click working.
today i found out why.
instaling dotnet 4 is not enough, i also had to install dotnet 2
thanks
i'm downloading the rom right now
its worth it, I installed it around 9 PM, and i am busy till now 3:55AM
exploring the excellent ROM made by Kyrillos.

Hi all,
I have a couple questions before I install my first ROM on my Telus Hero.
First off, I'm following btdag's guide over here, as I am an admitted complete Newb.
So, what I've got:
HTC Hero on Telus in Canada
Android 2.1-update1
Launcher Pro Plus as my current launcher
Flash Rec
Titanium Backup
HTC Sync installed on Win XP 32 bit
Amon Ra's recovery ROM for hero, 1.7.0.1
Rooted using Universal AndRoot
What I've done so far
As mentioned above, I've rooted the phone
I'm trying to Flash to the recovery image in the root of the sdcard folder, but it keeps failing. Can someone give specific steps as to what I am to do here?
Tried to backup the recovery image - see below.
About to do a Titanium Backup and then a Nandroid backup as specified in the guide.
Questions
1. I've tried to type in /sdcard/recover-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img into the address bar and click 'Backup Recover Image', but it just says 'Backup FAILED: Could not run command'. Any ideas?
2. What is the best ROM for this phone, in your opinions? I know I could flash it multiple times, but I'm not super-keen on that idea.. I'd prefer to do a one-shot, done sorta thing.
What I'm looking for in a custom ROM (in order) - preferably 2.3, but 2.2 would be acceptable:
a) speed
b) stability
c) compatibility
d) flashiness (UI stuff, launchers, etc)
e) overclocking built-in
I realize I can install whatever launcher I'd like after the fact, but if it comes baked-in, I'm good with that too. I'd prefer a launcher that has some basic customization for # of homescreens as I find that the hero is sluggish on many more than 5, and I prefer 3, tbh. This may be mitigated by the speed improvements of 2.3 as well as the built-in overclocking that some seem to have. I'm okay if I have to install setcpu separately to overclock.
3. Unlocking? I'm going to be going to Europe in May and I'd like to buy a data SIM card when I get there. Will these ROMs unlock the phone or is that a separate code I have to get from somewhere (ie: Ebay, etc)?
Thanks in advance!! I really appreciate all the work the devs and volunteers have done to make all of this available to the newb users like me.

I'll bite, lol.
Give Cronos Ginger 1.4 a try. It's a 2.3 ROM and my daily driver. http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=780 I find it to be fast and stable.
As for launcher, I use LauncherPro. It is very quick. I have tried ADW Launcher and is okay as well. There are some others to try but I haven't for a long time.
For overclocking, give SetCPU a try. It is free on xda for forum members.
For SIM unlocking, these ROMs will not do that. You'll need to get a code from ebay, etc as you mentioned.
I'll get back to you on the flashrec error.
Edit:
Okay, for the flashrec error it looks like you might be doing it wrong. You are trying to backup your current recovery image to a file name that probably already exists (recover-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img is the new image).
I replied to another user a while ago here with some advice that seemed to work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812511 Give that a try.
And back to the stable ROM suggestion, I didn't see that you just wanted to "set it and forget it" (install one ROM and that's it). In that case something that is stable is Cronos Froyo (a 2.2 ROM) http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=758.
And since you're a newb, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797740
Hello,
I am also a Telus customer with their Hero (got it way back in December). Currently rooted and using RaduG's TastyGinger 2.0 (Android 2.3.2) as my daily ROM. Very fast, stable, everything works (Camera, GPS, WiFi, BT, data, etc..)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943720
Overclocking is built into the ROM and can be adjusted when fully installed through TastyOC and ranges the clock speed between 176MHz - 710MHz. He does say that you should NOT use any other OC utility other than the one built in because he has implemented a custom set of instructions.
Before that I was running VillianROM's FroydVillian 1.7.2 (Android 2.2.1) and was great as a daily. Only issues that I had with that one was the GPS lock would not work sometimes and would have random reboots occasionally.
I promise you, however, that once you flash out of the stock 2.1 from Telus, you will flash atleast 5-9 different ROM's just because you can or you find that the recommended ROM's just don't suit your needs. I reflashed about 10 times because I couldn't decide if I wanted Sense or AOSP, haha.
Have fun.
EDIT: In regards to unlocking, you can either pay Telus $50 for them to unlock it for you now or you can check, like you said, EBay for people who buy unlock codes wholesale. Telus is probably way more expensive, but it would be 100%.
Regards.
Hey, thanks so much for your reply!
After trying to flash the recovery image, I gave up and just bought ROM manager installed and used clockworkmod. That works great.
So first, I tried TastyGinger... oh so slow and laggy. So not for me.
I reflashed with Froyo 2.2.1 stock with the blue sence theme and launcherpro instead of ADW and it seems to be working like a charm now. I'm quite liking it. Are there significant benefits to 2.3 other than the slight UI improvements? All the 2.3 based ROMs seemed like they have a bit too many bugs as yet, and since I do want stable, I figured I'd stick with 2.2.1.
I'll download setcpu and give it a shot.
Thanks again!!
Oliver
HI GUYS!
After hours of searching for my problem.. I finally gave up.. ending on LOOSING!!! hehehe...
Here's what happen...
I decided to update my CyanogenMod 7.0.0-RC1.7002 2.3.3 into 7004. I don't like to use ROM manager so I use the old trick.. home+power key to go to recovery. Clearing data,cache,system....
But it seems that i get STATUS 7 error. After reading on I decided to update clockwork mod from 6.0.0.5 to 6.0.0.6.
Updating it in the recovery.. Its says update complete for clockwork.. I decided to reboot clockwork so i can try to update my rom again..
Now I can't boot into clockwork recovery.. BOOM! LOOSING.. =(
Reading on different threads.. my eyes really hurts now and forgot about my laundry.. sun is down T_T NO LUCK FOR ME..
Here's what I can and can't do right now
-I can only boot to HBOOT
- can fastboot usb but can't detect my memory card
- when i do up+power, I get 3 vibrates but blank screen..
- in the endless TATTOO spash screen.. I can hook it to computer but cannot detect the device.. it says error at some point.
-when i hit home in hboot.. it goes to endless TATTOO splash screen but no recovery appear.
-when i go to simlock FAT32 int OK.255 not key-card!!!! shown.
I hope I can recover my phone as I suspected it is bricked.. omg will i be... LOOSING??!!
Please help genius.. thank you very much!
rommanager is buggy and boot loop occurs. gapp also the cause.
redo it. wait for splash screen blue circle.. it will work
no luck,... i waited for 15 minutes on tattoo logo.. and i think that is enough if i would see the blue spash screen.. T_T but i didn't..
any other ideas? genius persons of xda =)
I had a lot of this TATTOO screen bootloops when trying to update custom roms in the past, and the most of the times I could connect with adb.
If you can, I think you can flash the recovery image again via adb.
If you can't, try to flash the stock rom from windows. There is a sticky that have info about this(because theres a problem to use the correct drivers, needed to be my htc both on normal boot and on hboot).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646663
Another thing you can try is to take the rom.zip from your pc' s temp dir(run RUU utility and without to close it, search in temp dir for rom.zip), rename it to CLICIMG.zip, put it to sd card(via a card reader if cannot recognized by usb) and flash the rom from hboot(the stock rom).
take a look
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989762
thanks dancer_69.. but I was just about to do the rom.zip procedure but boogeyCZ says it needs the goldcard and I have none.
>.<
I successfully created it last year but my laptop crashed and needs a full wipe.. I did not backup my goldcard (failure)
Is it possible to do the rom.zip procedure without the goldcard?
using the stock rom puts me back to the original rom (1.6). Doing this requires me to root my phone again am i right?
I think that if the rom is the same with the rom that the device had from factory, the goldcard isn't nessecary(it works for me several times).
And yes, you're right, you need to do the rooting proccess from the begining as the phone will return to factory state
well i am in cyanogen mod 7 7002.. if I roll back to stock rom which is 1.6.. i can't do it is that what you mean?
Also, if I do this, what could possibly go wrong??
I have the stock rom now I am just waiting for genius replies from you and to all xda developers.. I think It's really not my fault as I did just the instructions of the developers in updating to 7004... Its just really hard when something goes wrong like what happened to me...
I am also thinking on going to HTC service center here in my country.. but the problem is the one year warranty covers only manufacture defect and manipulating the software of the phone will void the warranty. (I am just hoping they won't ask me what happen to it >.<)
I just want to do the best of my ability to fix it. So please help me get through it.. Thank you very much..
If the checks don't pass, the rom will not installed.
But if you have your stock rom, I think that it will flash without problems(I've done this 3 times on my device and without a goldcard). I think that the goldcard needed to be able to flash any Tattoo's official rom from hboot.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!
What I did is I went in htc service center in my country. (main office). They re-program my phone and after 15 minutes.. it's alive!! =)
But now I am having doubts in rooting my phone again. I think it is much better if I leave the phone in its true version of android.
-It is much faster and stable (when I am in CyanogenMod 7, it is laggy, occassional errors, unstable even with working camera now, it is still buggy as others said). I am more on speed and snappyness of the phone and for me a rooted HTC tattoo (gingerbread) slows the phone down. I am not saying rooting is bad, but for a phone that has low specs, maybe I will just upgrade my phone with a 1ghz processor and root it with cyanogenmod 7 and we will have a happy ending on it. =)
But it is a +100 to the developers, that at least I learned a lot in the world of android. Please keep up the good work and thank you very much genius people of xda developers, I can now say.... WINNING!!!!

I don't think that you have right about this.
I've used stock rom and custom roms in parallel in the past, and the custom roms win(even before camera and fm radio work). And the device is much faster with custom froyo and gb roms than the stock one. Plus the battery drains in a lot longer time(for me with stock rom battery needed every day charge, but with the last versions of froyo and gingerbread roms 2 days the minimum). Plus a lot more apps work with our tattoo.

I use one click recovery and then use rommanager, easy
Well we all have our perspective.. but thanks anyways. I will have a break on rooting, as soon as the cyanogenmod 7 is on stable situation.. i will try again.
You are righr, more apps is available when you root.. well i now feel the importance of rooting.
After much consideration... i rooted my tattoo again using CyanogenMod 7.0.0-RC2.2 (7007) 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
Very pleased with the speed of the os now.. thank you very much kalim.
I use one click recovery but there is a memory error.. but it booted nicely.. its just that i cannot hook mass storage via recovery.. don't know why., I just use a memory card reader to transfer the rom. I don't want to use rom manager anymore, I am more or less traumatized on what happen.. hehe...
Again.. thanks! If you don't know how to root your HTC tattoo guys.. it is time for you to learn... =) very happy
hey xda community
i am trying to update my little cousin's android phone (i am pretty sure that it is a G1 Dream, though it does NOT have any htc tags on it..) am pretty sure that its 2-3 years old(as it is running Android Market beta...) and i wanted to do him a favor by updating it so that he can run "some of the apps on his mom's phone". Please lemme know what you guys think

Check out CyanogenMod. You'll want 6.0, maybe 6.1.
I personally run ezGingerbread, but Froyo should run better on this old thing.
Sent from my HTC Dream - old and still kicking!

I'm surprised that it hasn't gotten an OTA update to 2.2.1.
Flashing someone else's phone is always a risky proposition and can brick the phone.
Seriously, you should just do a power&camera (or power&back) into boot-loader and post everything that screen says.
However, if you are determined to do it anyway, for something that is pretty quick and reliable, using Froyo by Laszlo is pretty nice, or ADS_Magpie (note, the need for a custom MTD).
First things first, you will need to follow the directions in the SPL/Radio thread to get you onto Amon_Ra and the right SPL/Radio combination.
SPL/Radio: 1.33.0013d/2.22.28.25,
And a custom recovery: Amon_Ra-v1.7.0.
The custom Rom: FroyobyLaszlo.
Latest Kernel: ezTerry kernel for Froyo.
Once these are saved, you will need to also grab Oshaka's SuperWipev2.
Seriously, you sure you want to do this? Flashing a custom radio/spl can brick the phone if not done correctly or the correct versions aren't used.
Here are the steps:
1) Follow the instructions in the SPL/Radio post to get you onto Ra and the right Radio/SPL for your phone.
2) Boot into recovery (Amon_Ra) and format your SDCard (Then upgrade the ext partition to ext3 or ext4 - I use ext4)
3) Copy Ohshaka's SuperWipe, Froyo, and Ezterry's kernel to your sdcard using USB-MS or adb
4) Make a Nandroid backup
5) Flash Ohshaka's Superwipe
6) Flash Froyo
7) Fash Ezterry's Kernel
8) Reboot into your new Rom install

start with this tutorial it is quite helpful
when you have gone through all this and want to try some other roms than update to the latest radio/spl -- the 2708
if you have problems using sdk and or fastboot there are great tutorials on that, just search the xda forum and you will find plenty.
check out the rom bible (a bit outdated) has many roms to choose from and helpful tips.
also easyfastboot and droid explorer are a must have once you get that far
also try super d for your first rom! you will love it!
any other questions search forum and if you still need help post

Hi,
I managed to mess up my phone by installing Aurora ICS over CM7, therefore issues with connecting to mobile network etc..
Could someone give me link(s) to various official 2.3.5 as i tried some, but i get "Installation Aborted" in return.
Don' t expect to get serious help with these poor info.
Be more specific and give more info about the state of device before flashing ICS, what you have done, in which state the device is now and what you do to flash official 2.3 roms and get the installation aborting error.
for e.g which CM7 you had. There are several versions, some need 2.2 official rom as base and some 2.3 official. Network connected issues appear when you flash a rom which is built for 2.3 official installed as base, and you have original 2.2.
Also when trying to flash the official rom, the 1step( Unpacking process) is successful, or you get only installation aborted error immediately?
I had a gingerbread CM7, idont remember which one.
I get installation aborted at once, when i try to flash through CWM 5.0.2.7
I`ve also tried 5.5.0.4 i think.
EDIT: Think i had a CM7 based on 2.2 Official even if it was Gingerbread, since i flashed it last year before christmas.
just install official 2.3, since it is the base for most ROM's right now.
follow this link, everything is explicit there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369296
hope it helps
BRB gonna test something out!..
Think i fixed it now...
Had to boot into purple screen to transfer the update file to the phone, than unpacked in ICS and rebooted into purple screen again.
Looks like it`s trying to install now.
i hope you solved this.
I killed my desire and my brother kindly gave me an HD2.....
I thought it would be easy to flash Android on it! appreciate the guides.. but why oh why does it have to be so dam complicated! I used to flash a heap of WinMo ROM... RUU, click, flash, reboot.... done!
I've spent the whole night trying to flash this blinkin thing! I downloaded over a Gig of ROMs looking for one that has a .DAF file in it... only to find out .DAF is no longer used... yet the noob guide doesnt actually say that... then I installed clockwork recovery mod... flashed the ROM, confronted with a MASS of options in URDRIOD that I have no idea about.. kernel type? I dont care just install a sense ROM that runs stock!!!!! rebooted and it blinkin went straight back to MAGLDR! WTF!
Gave up... flashed WinMo 6.5 back on...
Anyone know a guide that works? and a ROM that is something like the one used in the guide, that isnt 2 years old.....
how about trying an SD ROM which is much much easier
if you already have Magldr your ready to go.
just copy an Android SD ROM to the root of your SD card & point magldr via #10 service to the FOLDER of that Android & your done.
try this one
