Pandora Not working on Sprint Network issue - EVO 4G General

It seems like I can not stream on Pandora through my sprint network connection, even while in 4g areas. I can stream if I switch over to wifi, but not through my providers network. It only seems to happen on Pandora as I can use Tune In app with no problems. Does anyone else have these issues? It actually was working Monday and Tuesday, but It hasn't worked since......

I had to get rid of the proxy servers to get Pandora and Blacker working. I am on my phone or I would find the thread and link it but search for Sprint Pandora streaming fix and the steps are listed.

This only works on a sense rom, but download msl reader from the market and get your msl. Then in the dialer enter ##3282# and click edit mode. Enter your msl when it prompts you.
When the menu comes up, click a advanced. Scroll to the bottom and change the one that says 8085 to 0. Then change the one that says pd.vog.sprintpcs.com to 0.0.0.0

If you dont have your msl, search msl from the market there is an app to retrieve it, open the app and give it user permissions get msl code, make sure you do it to the HTTP ones not the other ones cause they look the same

Anyway to get msl without talking to sprint?

I tried 3 times today with different people and no dice
Call them and act like there's a problem with your voicemail or tell them your not receiving your text messages. They're more then likely give you the MSL code to check and see if everything is in order. Or tell them your msid number is wrong or blank. They will have to give you your MSL to reprogram your phone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
What do you need the MSL for? I'm not 100% sure what it is used for.
I spoke to a sprint tech and he gave me ##786# and then reset and gave me a 6 digit number. Is that my MSL? The reason I called to speak to sprint was that my phone would say "unknown" when I turned on 4G and would never turn itself on. You can use this excuse if you call them. (The fix to this problem was replacing the phone. Factory reset and re-flashing didn't fix it.)

that worked got my msl thanks!!!
the reason is i am looking to change my slot index but now i cant find where it is
Nevermind someone beat me to it.
An easier way to get it is the "getprop" command in ADB or the ConnectBot App connecting locally. It clearly shows those 6 magic numbers and tells you that its your msl several lines down.

Easiest way - get the free MSL reader app from the market!
Though I think it requires root.

Slot index is controlled at the tower. No matter what you switch your phone to, the network will override it.
dang it well maybe i dont remember the name correctly
but its the number that controls how often the phone checks in for calls
i remember the hero had it and the pixi

This is the easiest.
the getprop command in ConnectBot works even without root Pretty easy to identify the msl as the property is called [ril.MSL].
Confirm ConnectBot worked on an unrooted Epic
1. Run ConnectBot
2. From the dropdown on bottom left corner select local if not already selected
3. Use any name
4. Type getprop press Enter
and scroll up a little and there it is, thank you pgk23 and drkgouki

Thanks this was easy.
Another easy way is this. You will need another working sprint phone. Yes its kinda long and convoluted but it works. Log into your sprint account online. Find the thing that says I want to...Activate new phone. Turn off both phones. Activate the second phone on the account and let it turn off the first one. I forget what screen it is but after the screen that you have to wait while it's activated, there's going to be programming numbers in there. I think the first field is secondary blah blah. Then under that is one time blah blah. The secondary is your msl. You don't need to program the phone like it says on that screen if the phone is used. If it's brand spankin new, then yes you do. Anyways, the screen after that one is the last screen. Turn on the second phone and let it stay on for a few minutes. Make sure you can make calls and use data. To be on the safe side and not confuse the network because you switch phones like every five minutes, wait like thirty minutes to an hour then turn off the second phone. Now go back and do the same routine with the phone you originally wanted the msl. Don't rush it or you might have to call customer care for real to have them fix your mistakes. There was occasions that the data didn't want to come back on so I had to call them from another phone, but that doesn't happen very often. Just give the network some time to change over to the other phone before you start changing things again.
Getprop didn't work on all the phones I've tried. It worked on moment but I couldn't get it to work or find the number with the evo I think.

easiest way..:
connectbot
getprop [ril.MSL]
that gives the msl without you having to search for it.

Thanks for the info.

Fix for skyfire video

So apparently sprint thinks this is the iphone and we want our traffic filtered and/or proxied. This causes skyfire not to work with its flash video feature (and possibly other video/streaming apps, like a radio app I tried). But you can fix it and here's how (credit goes to sdx thread for the moment, will try and post link when back at pc):
##3282#
Multimedia
Input your msl (find it using adb command getprop, look for msl in readout)
Change rtsp proxy to 0.0.0.0 and rtsp proxy port to 0
Enjoy your unfiltered traffic!

Read the thread on the other site and I'd love to have this ability on my phone. The only problem I'm running into is where do i get the adb program from.

Skyfire never worked for me prior to the fix. I always thought Skyfire was broken, turns out it was because of the server setting. Now Skyfire videos work fine.
okay do we set every setting to the 0.0.0.0 and port to 0, which ones.

Every value to all 0's. The entire settings page (proxy servers) are unnecessary. They are essentially "middle-men" between you and the internet that are unnecessary (unless you're sprint and you want to pick and choose what content your subscribers can see). All values under multimedia should be all 0's (0.0.0.0's for ip addresses, 0 for port). Hope you guys enjoy the service you're paying $10 extra for that SHOULD have worked out of the box.
Now lets hope some devs can sort out the upload issue that is obvious sprint has no intention on fixing as it seems almost guaranteed to be intentional, given that Sprint now has a record of trying to give us less service for our dollar, despite the network being able to support it...
Thanks for the fix. For once I was able to look at flash video with skyfire. Still skyfire doesn't recognize video on Veoh while Vevo still gave errors but its something till we get 2.2 and flash.

Yes I am on version 1.5 and it is mostly working
See this is the kind of thing the forums are for. I installed the fix and now my phone seems to be faster. Anyone else notice that?
I haven't noticed a speed difference myself, but I did my fix before the di18 update, so maybe its more pronounced 'before and after' after the di18. Just glad people are enjoying the fix (but more glad that I thwarted Sprint's attempt to stop people from getting the most out of the bandwidth they've paid for )

I keep having this weird problem with skyfire video even after applying this fix. I'll head over to southparkstudios with my uastring set to desktop using my home wifi connection, and when I try to play a video it cuts out every few seconds and seems like it's rebuffering. Anyone have any suggestions?
The weird thing is that it was working the first time I used it, but I got a phone call while watching that first time and it's never been the same. I've tried un/reinstalling it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I also noticed this last night trying to play south park. Bandwidth to phone is fine, I can play daily show/colbert just fine. My guess is its some new method of streaming (still flash obviously, but something's changed) that causes issues with skyfires servers that play the file locally and then stream to us. Its possible this is intentional (like hulu) but my guess is not, because it will play, but stutters to the point of being unwatchable. Long story short, I'm 90% sure its on skyfire/southparkstudio's end, not the phone. Also hoping for a fix, if anyone else has any info I'd be happy to hear it.

Sirius XM radio app not working

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with new software update to 3.70 but my Sirius app is not working. Is anyone experiencing this or know a fix?
No one with the Evo uses the Sirius app?
Sent by my trick using my evo
I tried it out before the 3.70 update and it never worked well for me even then. I think it's just a crappy app. It'd be nice if they could get it to work reliably.
Mine is working using the new MikFroyo 4.2 Rom.
In the 3.70 update, Sprint broke streaming apps. That also includes apps like Rhapsody.
Here's the fix:
1) Dial ##3282#
2) Choose Edit Mode
3) Enter MSL
4) Choose Advanced
5) Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
6) Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0
@l8agin - It's not terrible. User experience varies I guess you could say.
I had Sirius/XM for my car and recenly upgrade service to the "anywhere" plan. I had already downloaded the player for EVO, but the support guy as Sirius told me to uninstall it, then download it again, install again and then do a reboot on the phone (battery out and back in). I did and it works fine, but does tend to hang for a few seconds occasionally. The uninstall/reinstall/reboot process may be a workaround for the HTTP process described above.
PS - I am stock, so that could also make a difference.
working now!
I tried this and it worked thanks for the info, finally have Sirius back after 3 weeks of non use from upgrade.
I've had weird experiences with the sirus xm app. If I'm listening to a music station, it seems to work fine. But if I go to a talk station, like the virus, it will go for a few minutes then either get stuck or loop back to where I first started. I only listen to a small handful of channels tho so not sure if others have issues... I don't see how the genre would affect it, but that has been my experience with the app, both before I ever rooted/custom rom and after. Would love for them to make a decent app so I can get my money's worth... or at least let the web player work...

Fixed worked like a charm on my EVO. Have two EVO's....one with latest 3.7 updated; other with older version.. siriux xm app only worked on older version. Once I did sftware update - sirius xm app stopped working. Hardest part of above fix was getting MSL from sprint tech support - I was honest and persisted and they finally gave it to me. I installed it yesterday on my CM6.1.2 EVO and in it works in general (both 3G and WiFi).
I was disappointed though about the selection of radio channels. The Talk category for example has only 7 stations. Also, the search button does not work.

The MSL Reader app is perfect and super easy, only caveat is you must be rooted. Not an issue for most people here, but worth saying for future reference.
Ok two questions cause I am new to Android.
1) is the msl the password it asks for? And I guess there is a app to get that?
2) if I do a factory reset of the phone will it change these 2 setting back to factory settings?
Ok I lied a 3rd question:
3) will changing these settings make anything else not work?

Yeah I work at sprint. I'm pretty sure the msl is just used to authenticate your phone in a shorter way (esn dec has like ten characters and the hex has less but it has letters). I use it to manually program phones to the network when it doesn't take over the air or if its just an older phone.I guess I would say its like a virtual Sim card.the network uses it to communicate with the phone

I was able to find the MSL without calling or using the MSL app.
I did an alteration to the following instructions, and was able to retrieve it after a couple attempts.
http://androidforums.com/htc-hero-sprint/117401-guide-easy-way-get-msl-without-calling-sprint-using-cmda-workshop.html
I tweaked the instruction a little bit by presenting the msl input screen before returning to alogcat.
Instructions I used:
Fresh boot phone and await all apps/things (scripts, widgets, and misc) to load.
Launch alogcat
Clear out the log by pressing menu button and then select "clear"
Go to your dialer and enter ##DATA# or ##3282# which will bring up the DATA menu
Once the menu pops up just select "View" mode
At this point you will see a screen with 6 selections. Select "others".
Then select "work mode".
Attempt to input a random msl code. I used "000000". Of course it is incorrect. I then clicked cancel and then returned to the previous menu (work mode).
From here either press and hold the Home Key and select aLogcat if you ran it before, go to your tray and run Logcat.
After opening Logcat it will update, once it finishes press "Menu" and "Pause" the log.
Then scroll until you see a group of entries labeled "I/MSL_Checker" which should be green.
Locate the line that has "MSL result : " at the end of it (Or press Menu and Filter "MSL" )
And there you have it, your 6-digit MSL code without ever calling sprint or using a computer.

MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code has nothing to do with activating a phone. MSL is a password that is needed to change settings in the EPST menu. These settings are password protected to protect an end user from changing settings that will cause the phone to not work correctly.

[GUIDE] How to manually change the PRL on the Galaxy S III

For anyone interested in changing their PRL, the method is as simple as ever.
This is on a Sprint phone but should work with any CDMA carrier.
*I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE*
1. Be rooted!
2. Find your MSL. I had a hard time getting my phone to give the numbers using the terminal for some reason. It's much easier just to use "Get My MSL," which can be found in the Play Store for free.
EDIT: This app worked for me the first time using it, but no longer does. Download Terminal Emulator from the Play Store, type in "su" and enter it, then try typing "getprop ril.MSL" (capitalization is important)
3. Make sure you have downloaded the phone's drivers onto your computer.
4. Open your phone's dialer and type *#7284#"
5.PhoneUtil should now be open. Click on "Qualcomm USB Settings" and select "DM + Modem + ADB." Remember to change this back after you change your PRL.
6. Plug your phone into your computer; let your phone recognize the phone.
7. Download your preferred PRL from the internet. I usually use 11115, but you can use whichever one you find best.
8. Open "Device Manager" on your computer; click on "Ports" and see which COM port your phone is connected to on your PC.
9. Use the program "CDMA Workshop" to connect to your phone by selecting the correct COM port, clicking "Connect," and then clicking "Read."
10. Go to the "Security" tab and put in your MSL into the box under "SPC." Click the "SPC" button and click "Send." It should say that the phone is unlocked.
11. Under PRL, click "Write" and select the PRL you want to switch to.
12. It should say that it successfully wrote; exit the program and let it reboot the phone when it asks.
13. Enjoy your new PRL!

It's funny you say that; it worked for me the first time I used it, but now that I checked again it can't find it. Any idea why?

I cannot get this to work. What am I doing wrong? I followed the instructions and tried TEST.prl and Test.prl, and I'm using any cut 1.0.

EDIT: This any cut thing doesn't really work, does it?
i have tried both methods and they both work.
question i have is.
have any of you actually been able to force roam?
i have managed to change the prl quite easily but thin phone will not roam for the life of me which sucks because i live in a 1x area...

I haven't tried force roaming, however I have successfully roamed on the Verizon network (at least according to the "Netmonitor" app).
Any way to get MSL without root? It's just good to have it "just in case". Only time I ever actually used it was to completely deactivate and remove info from my Epic 4G once I had my SGS3 activated.
What is PRL?

Preferred Roaming List; it tells the phone when and where to roam whenever there isn't sufficient service coverage from Sprint.
Apex launcher - it doesn't work.
TW launcher - it does.
Please see carrier specific instructions in Develpment section
Thanks
