flashing baseband/clockwork recovery problems - Streak 5 General

I just got my Streak today, and when using fastboot to flash the amss.mbn file I see that it pushed the file to the device then instructions say "3. Next hold down both volume buttons and type the following command:
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
during keep vol keys held until you get to recovery menu"
I get to recovery menu, choose option 2 with cam button, but then the device just hangs on a lit up but black screen, clockwork never starts or loads. I have also tried to reboot into recovery from clockwork mod and it does the same. Im forced to pull out the batt and restart that way, then the phone starts up fine, but im in the same state, i WANT to put this baseband on and install djsteves 1.8.1 but im stuck on this problem. Also when i tried to do a system reset, it basically just reboot, didnt delete anything. Any help on this would be awesome.
Note:
Android version 2.2,
Baseband GAUSB1A131800-US
kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
oem version GAUSB1A131500
Build number 12332
Thanks for the help

You need the streakmod recovery, you need to flash that on your phone using fastboot, then flash amss, be sure you have the 1.8.1 update zip on your sd card. Go to Streakdroid.com for step by step instruction/guide. You have already changed your baseband to 318 haven't you noticed that?

Not all versions of Clockwork run properly on the Streak. Ensure you've got 2.5.0.1 or 2.5.0.7. Else just use StreakMod as suggested in the previous post. Cheers!

Help!!! none of the rom i flash work!!

i tried to flash 2.2 but i end up getting stuck in dell logo boot up screen. so i try to flash it back to stock 1.6 att rom i flash the stock recovery img first and put the stock 1.6 in my ms, but when i press the volume up and down + power and select option it just gave me a black screen with back light on.
please help im with out a phone right now ;[
also when i try to install djsteve 2.2 it just stays at 20% for around 30-40 sec and then it says completed
OK, I has similar problem but resolved now.
Here is what i did:
Download amss-2.1.mbn file (this is baseband 2.1, 2.2 is what you updated with amss.mbn and it doesnt work).
Put your streak into fastboot mode then select fastboot and plugin your usb cable to your phone and to your system.
Open command prompt on your system
Type in as like before 'fastboot -i 0x413 flash amss amss.mbn'
On completion type 'fastboot -i 0x413 reboot'
Press and hold Vol +/-.
And update Flash with Froyo 2.2 v1.0 (try update v1 or beta first but not v1.2) zip
Reboot
Give this a try.
where do i get v1? i came seem to find it any where. does v1.1.1 work? do i flash the nbm file before or after i flash the rom?
also im on 2.1 right now do i need to root it first?
okayy............
so i got v1.1.1 to work but, when i try to wipe and install 1.2 it got stuck in dell logo again. do i need to reflash the amss in bootloader?
Follow Steve instruction to the letter and all will be good.

[Q] fastboot - no boot or img file

hey guys i'm having some trouble. i just got the nexus (it's my first smartphone, ever) and i've tried to hit the ground running. here's what i've done to the phone so far.
i got all the drivers running on my win7 machine and also installed the android SDK folder onto C: as was described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878786
i then unlocked the bootloader using the above guide as well. when I power on the phone using UP+POWER it says UNLOCKED.
I then proceeded to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875875
i used ADB to flash the clockwork crespo recovery. i then used fastboot to install Superuser.
at that point i had an unlocked bootloader, clockword recovery image and superuser permissions.
i then saw that the 2.3.1 update had been released. i wanted to learn how to tackle that so i started reading up. i noticed that people were using ROM Manager and Titanium. I got titanium and installed the BusyBox addon and it allowed me to do a full Batch Backup of all my programs, etc. i've got the 50MB or so backup folder on my PC now.
anyway, i then messed with Rom Manager. I installed the 3.0.0.0 ClockworkMod Recovery and everything went smoothly. now this is where my troubles begin.
when i go to Download ROM all i get is a Free Stuff area.
when i go to Check for ROM Updates it tells me my device isnt set up for OTA updates.
those are just minor issues.
this is the big and scary issue i have:
when i click on reboot to recovery, it takes me to the same screen that i go to when i power on with VOLUME UP+POWER. it doesnt take me to the recovery screen that i see in various youtube videos. instead, i'm at the main screen where it says UNLOCKED and i have 4 choices (reboot bootloader, recovery, reboot, power off). and on the very top in RED letters it says fastboot - no boot or img file. <-- this is the part that makes me nervous. If i manually power down the phone and boot to fastboot and click recovery, it just goes back to this same screen and says fastboot - no boot or img file. when i first rooted the phone, clicking recovery actually took me to a different screen where i was able to load up superuser.zip and install it.
did i accidetnally delete something that i wasnt supposed to? did installing ROM manager mess something up? i typically dont do anything until i confirm that i am supposed to. i think the problem is that i dont yet know how one thing i do on the phone affects another. i'm guessing when i used rom manager to update the CWmod it changed some folders/files? i dunno!
otherwise, the phone works fine and there are no glitches or hiccups or crashes. So if someone can please take a moment to just explain to me what i did wrong or what i failed to do i'd really, really appreciate it.
you don't have a recovery partition. Either flash one over manually using fastboot, or boot up and try to use ROM Manager to flash CWR.
when you say flash one over using fastboot, do you mean put my phone using VOLUME UP + POWER, connect usb cable, then use command line to do this:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-crespo.img
?

Yes, 'cept it will be "fastboot flash recoveryrecovery-clockwork-3.0.0.0-crespo.img" without the quotes now.
But does it say that you're missing a boot.img or recovery.img?
Also, the "not set up for OTA" thing isn't for official OTAs. Some developers have made their custom ROMs capable of being updated that way.

thank you luxferro and unremarked. i did it and it works perfectly. i am now able to access clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.0. next step is backup my existing ROM and also to figure out how to put the OTA 2.3.1 on and restore all my data
oh and unremarked: it basically said no boot or img file and thats it after i would click on recovery or reboot to recovery trhough rom manager. it was just in red at the top. but now it takes me to the ClockworkMod Recovery

[Q] Stuck in Dell "Energy Star" Screen - Bios Screen

So..I tried to go from 1.5.3 to 1.6.1....and have failed....miserably. I am getting to the funky "Energy Star" screen....the then shows an ASCII version of the Android robot and then freezes. Sometimes it freezes in other areas...but for some reason, it appears that I am being thrown around in that setup screen....
The Good News:
I can still get to ClockworkMod Recovery
I can still fastboot.
Any suggestions on how I can get my Streak back up and running...I am ready to go to factory default if it will get me out of this viscious cycle...but I need some guidance here....there is a $20 PayPal gift to anyone who can help me out!!!
Thanks,
Chris
Can you install 1.5.1 using clockwork, do a factory reset after booting 1.5.1 once and then install 1.61? streakdroid.com won't load for me right now or I would post a link, but see the 1.6.1 install guide there.
Edit: clear the cache before installing 1.6.1
install 1.5.3 then 1.6.1 i had same problem make sure you was on 2.2 froyo stock first if not install this the n 1.5.3 then 1.6.1

I wasn't suggesting you use fastboot, I was suggesting you use Clockwork. Your first post says you can still get to recovery.
Follow this guide
Here's an abbreviated version:
Download streakdroid 1.5.1 from downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve if you do not already have it,
Flash this to your streak using clockwork/streakmod
Factory reset using the dell screen (4 option menu)
Let device boot up completely
Now:
Download Update-1.6.1.zip from the links below
Place Zip file into Root of SD Card
Make a text file and type in the options you would like to chose as shown above.
Save file under SDCard>install.txt
Boot into StreakMod or Clockwork Recovery
Select Update from Zip File > Select Zip File From SD Card > StreakDroid_1-6.Zip
Wait for installation.
First Boot may take longer than a normal boot. Things are being installed, stuff is being generated. Patience.
Enjoy.
I recommend that you wipe the cache before you install 1.6.1 (it's in the recovery menu)
Downloaded 1.5.1
All - I have downloaded 1.5.1 and tried to flash it using the following command:
fastboot -i 0x413c update update-1.5.3.zip
When I do this, I get the following error:
archive does not contain "android-info.txt"
archive does not contain "android-product.txt"
Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
Also - QDL Tool...I have been looking on the forums and can't seem to find a place to download this tool...can someone point me the right direction for this file?

Getting There Marvin...
Marvin,
I downloaded streakdroid 1.5.1 no problem...
The problem is, how do I get that file to my phone so that I can use clockwork???
This is really where I am stuck. If I get get the .zip file over to the phone, I will use clockwork...any assistance here on the command to move the .zip from my computer to the phone would be REALLY appreciated...we are close...
Use a card reader to direct copy 1.5.1 and 1.6.1 over to SDCARD.
Fastboot is for flashing recovery, not the ROM. Use StreakMod recovery instead of Clockwork if you want working nAndroid backups.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
Read through everything here:
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
marvin02 is dead on with install instructions. So to recap: you DO NOT enter fastboot -i 0x413c update update-1.5.3.zip. You use fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Then you boot into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING, INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD (1.5.1), reboot to recovery, WIPE EVERYTHING ( Factory Reset,Cache, Dalvik), Install ZIP from SDCARD (1.6.1 with the CFG file already in place) and then wait on first boot. It will appear to hang on "Initializing" BIOS screen for at least 10 - 15 minutes to build cache and perfmod.
Or, QDL Tool to pre-release Froyo 2.2 http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=15&did=8
I was stuck at the same damn thing while updating to staves 1.6.1
All I did was boot in streakrecovery. Clear David cache. Flashed stock recovery, that 913 thing. Updated to 318 package.from dell and got my device boot into stock froyo.
Do not worry. Its scary but you sure can get that thing back.
Getting Closer (at least I thought)
So...I was able to get into 1.5.1 for a little while (like...20 minutes before I fuasdfhsfaked it up again). I was at StreakDroid's "Step 3"...doing a factory reset...
NOW...my dell streak is stuck in a loop, it displays this for about 10 seconds:
Factory Reset start, please wait . . .
then BRIEFLY says:
Please wait for reboot
Then it loops over and over and over and over again...until I ultimately take out the battery...anyone run into this issue???!
Man...I am loosing it...maybe flashing isn't my cup of tea....
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way....I have already tried to simply re-install the 1.5.1 and also tried to do another factory reset...it is STUCK.
dinohaven,
Are you using Streakmod recovery or Clockwork?
Try flashing the Streakmod recovery if you're using Clockwork.
Boot into recovery and clear the cache partition
Now select advanced and then wipe the Dalvik cache
reinstall 1.51 and see if it will boot. (use the back key to get out of advanced)
If 1.5.1 boots then go back into recovery and do a factory reset
Now you are ready to install 1.6.1
The advanced menu in recovery is where you can mount the SD card via usb so that you can copy files from your computer if you need to.
**Update&**
Marvin -
I am using the Streakmod recovery....I switched recovery modes to get 1.5.1 install on the SD. I went through each of your steps...and it STILL brings up that never ending loop....it is truly stuck in reboot mode for some reason....It says it is going to factory reset...then restarts and then goes back to saying that it is factory resetting....a never ending loop...
dinohaven,
My only recommendation at this point would be to go to streakdroid.com and watch the QDLTool tutorial and use that. I believe the DL at streakdroid gets your phone to 2.2 baseband 305. You should be able to install 1.6..1 from there.
I have never used the QDLTool.
Yea...
Yea..that is the direction I look to be heading...I tried to install everything on my Vista 64 machine and then discovered that it isn't friendly to that machine!!! So I am having to set everything up on an XP machine...man, I hope this works! I will post the result tonight...
it happened to me also and i went so mad that i even thought about selling my streak for 1/4th price in the grey market but good sense prevailed and i decided to do some more researching (QDL tool was too much info). what i did was that i flashed the new stock recovery(this is very important as there was some problem with the old recovery if the device was rooted and cwm recovery installed) (i dont remember the name or post where i downloaded it from) and installed the stock froyo update pkg from sd card.

Help! Can't boot / cant get into recovery. ..

I was unlocked and rooted and ready to install CM7. I followed all the instructions in the Official Atrix CM7 OP to the T, but when it rebooted, I got stuck on the boot screen with "unlocked" and the red M logo.
I tried to repeat the process several times and ended kind of giving up, factory wiping, and then trying to restore my backup. It appeared to restore successfully, but when I rebooted the phone now wont boot at all. I can't even get it into recovery. No combination or order of button presses or battery pulls / usb plugins will turn it on. I just have a green light like it's charging but nothing is working.
Is it possible to brick your phone even after you have been successfully unlocked and rooted just while you are trying to install CM7?
Please help. I am really desperate here. . .

i am using the tenfar CWM included in the Atrix 4G Automatic Unlock script package. will this not work?
if not, how do I replace it with the right recovery if I cant even get into the phone?

no, that the old recovery you can use the rom manager if you have , or romracer latest recovery you can find that in the development section, also ther was instruction in the cm7 thread.
you should have left it alone at the M boot screen because it takes about 5-10min to boot after unlock and flash...
everything you do now will have to be through fastboot DO NOT SBF FLASH ANYTHING!!!
Go here to use Fastboot
then download the system.img and boot.img from here
use fastboot to push the boot.img and system.img to your phone
if it gets stuck at the M boot screen let it sit for at least 10min
EDIT: get Romracer recovery from here and push that through to your phone through fastboot
Yeah youre going to have to fastboot wipe recovery then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just download rom racers and rename it..recovery.img

Great. Sorry to be such a noob, but do I decompress the CWM-recovery-atrix5.zip file and push the recovery.img file that's inside it? or push the CWM-recovery-atrix5.zip itself?
Also - every time I am able to get my phone into fastboot mode, it says my battery is too weak to flash anything. I cant seem to get the battery to charge enough to execute any fastboot commands. Any way around this? a powered usb hub?

If you can borrow another Atrix user's battery, or take yours to an AT&T store and see if they can charge it for you.
If you're able to get back into recovery then you can just flash the zip.
If not, you'll need to extract the recovery.img to use it with fastboot, or just download it directly from the OP in romracer's thread. (The left hand link is just the .img, the right hand side is the CWM .zip) Then place it in the same directory as fastboot.
So I can literally flash a different recovery from within another?

Its the recovery from tenfar CWM. When I can get it into recovery it seems to be working - with the obvious exception of successfully installing CM7
So I can flash romracer recovery from inside tenfar recovery?
sorry if im being redundant - just dont want to screw it up!
thanks
Just download rom racers cwm. Img, head into fastboot and then fastboot flash recovery recovery-****** (whatever yer recovery image color u chose is)

I am actually having this same problem.
My warranty-replacement (unrelated ear-piece failure) had 2.3.6 pre-installed. Thinking little of it, I unlocked the BL and rooted the phone as usual. After this, I tried to install a couple of the ROM's (Neutrino and Morrisoft) which I was most happy with on my previous Atrix.
After flashing either Neutrino or Morrislee's ROM, the phone hung on the M screen. Waiting approximately 30 minutes with no change, I pulled the battery.
When trying to enter recovery mode, the phone would state, "entering recovery mode..." Then go black.
I ended up using RSDLite and sbf flashing the stock 2.3.6 sbf file back to the phone. Then, I had to re-unlock the bootloader and re-root.
This never happened up to, and including 2.3.4, but did twice last night on these ROM's using 2.3.6, and I've flashed many ROM's and Kernels.
It happened to a lesser extent when trying to flash Clemsyn's stock enhanced kernel to the stock ROM, as I was able to enter recovery mode. Entering recovery mode, it would give errors: mounting cache, mounting system errors, and errors to accessing recovery and recovery log files.
Restore recovery would fail in this state, giving me the above errors as well.
Trying to mount the cache and system in recovery would fail. Trying to format cache and system then mounting these could occur temporarily, but would revert back to unmounted when a restore was attempted.
For these problems I pushed a recovery through fastboot.
Just one word: Fastboot. See if Fastboot works and flash everything from there. Or, as Alterna suggested, flash through RSDLite, but that a little dangerous and can brick your phone if you don't know what you are doing. Hope it helps.
Problem sloved!!!

can't get into Clockworkmod recovery

Hi,
I was trying to root my nexus 4 using this tutorial. I got to the part where I needed to get into recovery, I hold down both the volume keys and the power button. I got into fastboot mode and selected 'Recovery mode' which is supposed to launch Clockworkmod, am I right? right after I hit the power button to get into recovery a lying bot with a red triangle and an exclamation mark inside it appeared. I let the device to lay down like this for a little bit and it simply rebooted to it's normal state.
When I installed Clockwordmod it came up just fine the first time so I have no clue of what went wrong..
My boot loader is unlocked and I can see that while in fastboot mode.
Any kind of help is appreciated!

Did you flash recovery in fastboot or with a Toolkit?
In fastboot : fastboot flash recovery recovery-touch-mako.img. recovery-touch-mako is what i renamed the CWM file. Don`t add .img at the end of the name, just recovery-touch-mako or whatever you name it.
I think that you just booted CWM.
The droid with red triangle ils the default recovery. You can flash CWM by typing this : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just rename the cwm image in recovery.img and drag it to the ADB/FASTBOOT folder.
I hope it'll help you

It seems that this is a known issue. Here's a tutorial to force flash a custom recovery but it only work on Windows :
