Is there a ring once or "meeting mode" for the ringer?
Uhhh stock? On a particular rom? There's not "profiles" unless you get a 3rd party app from the market, or I guess cm7 is about to incorporate something similar I believe
---------------------------------
xda + android + htc =
CM7 has profile support now, haven't used it myself but there's around 5 different profile settings I think, I would imagine one of them would do something like that.
I just want the ringer to ring once. I hate how the phone keeps ringing. I basically want a "notification ringtone for calls" my old phone when I lowered volume it would cycle through regular ringer, notification ring tone, silent, and vibration

So on every android phone, in the sound settings for ringtone, you can set it so that your notification and ringtone volume is the same (by checking off a little box). I font see this option on the phone and so when I lower my volume it only lowers it for the ringtone, not emails and texts etc. this is ANNOYING. is they're not a setting for this or is it just me?

It's extremely annoying, and my biggest issue I've had with the phone so far. Followed closely by no notification LED. Hoping to see fixes for both soon.
Okay, here's how.
As usual, Settings > Sound and Display > Notification Ringtone. Now that you have the notification ringtone list open, just press the volume key to adjust.
That's how you manually adjust the notification ringtone, as always. What we're missing is the option always in every other Android OS that allows you to match your notification volume automatically to your ringtone volume, allowing you to adjust everything at once by the hard keys on the outside of the phone. Without that option you bump your ringtone way down, for example to go in a meeting, then one of your notifications goes off full blast.
Okay, I see now. I haven't had an android phone in a month so I'm a bit rusty. Well here's a fix to that then. I can't do anything about it in the settings itself, but go to the market and download "Quick Settings." Open the app and go into volume control. On the top there is a check box for "Use Ringer volume for Notifications." Now it'll work.
That sucks big ones. I'll have to use audio manager till that issue gets fixed. This is why I hate non-stock android phones because manufacturers like htc, motorola, and samsung think they thought of everything but they always end up messing something up

I agree, this is the most annoying thing about the vibrant. (luckily its an easy fix)
Thanks for the suggestion on the "Quick Settings" app
damn, whats up with samsung phones just straight up missing **** that's included in android? I was googling for a way to block calls when I saw that android should be able to take any contact and send their calls straight to voicemail.. NOPE, not on my epic.. now the notification/ringer volume link is missing too?! WTF?
I'm having a serious case of buyer's remorse right now.
Not sure if this topic would be in this forum or not...but I've noticed quite a few of the roms I've tried (celb2.1, white widow, kaosfroyo) all have a drag to silent phone feature on the lock screen. The only one I noticed that switches it to VIBRATE instead of just plain silent though is kaos....any idea how to change this function in say...celb2.1?
U have to change ur vibrate options in settings sounds

I am interested in trying to get the vibrate function working on Aloysius's lockscreen also instead of the sound off, there is no vibrate option in settings sound however, any ideas?
I just use the volume rockers on the side. One tick above silent is vibrate only.
I would be interested to know if you could change the slide to silent to slide to vibrate as well.
All I did to enable the slide for vibrate feature is make sure phone vibrate is checked in your settings under sounds and display

That didn't work for me, i checked it but nothing changed w the lockscreen. I don't know if its a different lockscreen.apk or a setting.

Same here.
I think this might be Froyo thing as when I was using Eris Lightning Bolt it would only go to silent mode
I was on a call and I got a text message and the ringtone for it went off at full volume, anyone else getting this? I'm on Fresh's rom but have seen this on stock sprint 2.2. It's pretty annoying!!!!
The only thing I can think of is you probably got your notification vol for messaging on high. You may have it set to say, ring + vibrate.

even then i don't think it's supposed to play the actual ring tone when you're on call..it only got to me because it got me in trouble at 3 am haha
In WinMo 6.5 you have the option to have both ring tone and vibrate enabled at the same time. However, in the Froyo OS, I cannot have both option available when someone make a call to my phone.
Is there a solution to this?
What rom and distro of android are you using?

I have ring and vibrate at the same time.
try going to settings - sound - vibrate - "only when not in silent mode"
I think only stock Android has ring & vibrate option.
Not able to post under the UPDATED! [ROM] [2.2.1 Froyo] [23/1/2011] TastyFroyo 1.2 thread (this is the rom i'm using) so I'm hoping that someone can help me here. Been searching through here for what "silent state" means. When I put my phone on silent it still plays media through the phone speaker. Under the sound settings when I uncheck silent mode it takes my phone off silent state. Is there a silent state that disables all sounds (including media/alarms) except vibrate? Or is this a rom issue?
Thanks
Yep, that is normal android behaviour. Use somethin like Audio manager widget to be able to control each value yourself,...... personally I use widgetsoid (free in market). Its like the power control widget with a lot more options, a volume toggle being one of them. Try it.
Hang on, ill get a screen shot up.

widgetsoid is pretty neat, thanks! I guess I could always turn down the media volume when I need to.
