Transfer files from Computer to inc... - Droid Incredible General

I have been using Dropbox most of the time to transfer files. Just put the file in the dropbox folder then download it on my phone.
Since CM7 gives my troubles with usb tethering, is there a way to wirelessly explore my SDcard through wifi or something?
Itd be nice to be able to clean up the card every once in a while with my computer.

I came across this app - "WiFi File Explorer PRO":
I can't post links yet but you can find it on Android Market
Looks like what you are looking for

A few questions...which nightly are you on and what issues are you having? Are you trying to mount to a PC or Mac? If it would come down to it, does your computer have Bluetooth capabilities?

I also use Wifi File Explorer. Works well for me.

I"m using cm7 #12 and usb mounting works for me

is the wifi explorer worth paying for it are you able to download all the new zip files and where does it store it?

I use swiFTP from the market. It's free, open source software and it works great. I use it all the time when i'm too lazy to find my usb cord, lol.

thanks for the replys...
I use a mac.
I haven't tried it in a while so maybe the USB tether works, but figured why bother if I can do it over WiFi?
I have bluetooth, but that is verrrrry slow. not sure why, the phone is inches from the computer too.

I've experienced the same thing with bluetooth - really slow no matter what. FWIW i've stuck with swiFTP because it has great transfers speeds. Better than any of the other wireless methods i've tried.

USB or Bluetooth connection to computer

I read on one of the many A7 posts that there is a USB "A" cable that allows connection to the USB port of a computer, and enables file transfers. Is this correct?
Also, I was able to pair up with my laptop via Bluetooth. Is there an app required (on either or both devices) to then enable this connection to see the A7's sdcard and transfer data back and forth?
Either solution would make the A7 a much more acceptable tablet to me. The "adb over wifi" is not nearly as flexible, and the eLocity solution to (1) remove the sdcard, (2) plug it into your laptop, (3) transfer files, (4) remove from your laptop, and (5) plug it back into the A7, is almost laughable...
UPDATE: I tried QuickSSHD, but I found the instructions confusing and/or incomplete. My A7 was able to "pair but not connect", and coudn't find a solution to this.

Now that I have an A7, this is the coolest app I've found for Android.
At Fry's, I couldn't even find USB 'A' male to 'A' male cables that weren't 3.0 (which apparently aren't backwards compatible). This is sweet.
I also have the viewsonic gtablet and have been using this app for sometime now. It is the way to go, no cables.
dropbox
hi I havent got my a7 yet its on its way but I use a free app called dropbox to share stuff with my phone, netbook ,ipod touch and my son in tn it works great.
I use the free dropbox app. I also use it with Titanium Backup. Works well.
another method is using swiftp to make your a7 into a ftp server. Then you can transfer files using an ftp client on a pc or on another android device.

dropbox is a great service but websharing is a different beast entirely. both have their place and both are awesome.

Websharing didn't work well for me. Some files it would refuse to upload to the tablet for no reason. I did upload three photos, seemingly successful, but on the tablet all three showed with 0 size, and won't display.

accessing android phone (USB Mass Storage)

am i being stupid ??
im sat here with my HTC Desire (running GingerVillain) connected via USB to my transformer dock. Ive enabled USB mass storage on my phone.
Can i find it using File Manager ? No ... nor ES file explorer ..... am i going mad ? im sure when i was at home i was able to find a USB drive through file explorer ... is this a quirk of Android mass storage or am i just being thick ??
It doesn't work for me either. Would be nice if they got this to work soon. I thought maybe it was because I din't have 3.1 but even after the update it won't work. Kinda sucks.
this is similar as connect together two windows pc, It never worked like that . why should work here then?

hmmmm. but isnt the whole point of the Android USB Mass storage 'mode' that it works like a USB Flash drive ? ... and the Transformer copes with USB Flash Drives !!!
im not suggesting that its like plugging two windows pcs together ????
i had a thread about this last week.
it does the same thing for me (i have an HTC desire). very annoying!!!!
the only way i found to easily transfer files was using a bluetooth transfer app called:
"Bluetooth file transfer" free in the android market.
its not that fast (bluetooth limitation) but allows transfer of smaller files etc.
i wanted to transfer all my music (like 4gb) but over BT that would take days lol
so i have to wait to copy paste it all to a computer, copy paste to a USB stick, copy paste onto the transformer
OR, upload on my wifi to Dropbox and then download onto my transformer. uploading 4gb would also take days....
hopefully it will come soon...!!!
connected my san francisco (CM7) to the TF, it's mounted as 'removable' correctly...
I have my external HITACHI HDD on NTFS working fine but when I've tried to connect my Nexus S in as a drive its just blink on Transformer task bar and thats all
I would love to see my NS connected to Transformer so I can do more work on it.
Any1 know how to make it work ?
I have the same problem. I am on 3.1, but my X10 mini is not seen by the Transformer. No problems with thumb drives - or even a Microsoft wireless mouse (with own dongle) works perfectly.
It's a little surprising that an Android device is the only thing that is giving me problems!

[Q] simple? question about linking with windows

I dont have a problem searching, but my wifes NC makes 4 tablets in our house so keeping this all in my head is rather hectic, so if I can find out IF this is possible, I can search for HOW TO (unless someone wants to tell me)
We have aversion of CM7 on her 32gb uSD card, and that boots great, and when she wants more than a basic NC she goes that route.
However I tried to transfer some movies to her from the laptop, and they are too big for the internal memory and even loading them on a uSD I get unrecognized file type (when booting as a regular NC)
However, when I boot from the uSD card w/ CM7 (I believe it is the march 2011 version, I dont have the #), SHOULD I be able to plug it into the laptop USB and the xfer cards over that way?
When I plug it in Win7 tries to load the drivers and fails and nothing is available through Explorer.
When booting under the NC there is a NC "drive: that I can click on and copy to.
Any thoughts, ideas, would be helpful
Thanks
J
In settings, be sure that USB debugging is enabled. It also seems to work MUCH better if you use a cable other than the Nook Color cable. I use the cable that came with my phone and it works much better for connecting to the PC.
framitz.
Thanks for the tips.
at least now I know that it SHOULD be able to happen.
Ill check debugging AND the cable when i get home.
Do you know if there have been any major changes or updates since the Apr 10th release?
I personally use a Gtab ZT180 and AugenG78, and on most of their ROM pages they have a series of dates and changes on the home page of the post.
BUT I know everyone does things differently, and personally other than the HC rom Im using on the gTAB I think the CM&/NC combo is the best value/performence out today!
I think I have sold more MC's through recommendation than the local BN guy "Pierce" (so named due to the metal additions) here in town
J
I run rooted stock 1.2. with ManualNooter 4.6.16.
I haven't played with other ROMS.
You might also try the Samba Filesharing app. It allows you to connect to your SDcard on the NC as a network share. Then you can copy files to and from any PC on your network without any cables.
now THATS another great idea, I have one on my GTAB but hadnt thought about the NC because I thought that was already dealt with.
thanks

I'm not familiar with this app, but I use File Expert (free) to connect to the PC via wifi and it works great. It uses the shares on the PC instead of opening up the Nook. Same results, but I feel safer using File Expert for moving data.

[Q] Cannot Transfer mp4 via Mini USB?

I can't seem to transfer any mp4 files from my pc to the thrive through the mini usb cable. It starts to copy and the bar gets full, indicating it's almost done, and then there's an error saying the thrive stopped responding. I can succesfully transfer the file via a usb flash drive, but it's annoying to take the extra step.
I read somewhere else that turning on USB Debugging would solve this, but when I do that the thrive is not recognized by the pc. Anyone have any info on this?
Search for WiFi File Explorer Pro in the market. Works great! Look at the most recent reviews and you will see someone with the same problem that it worked for. Maybe it was you?

Wasn't me but thanks for recommending it. Works great and not much loss of speed, if any.

Good Alternative to UMS?

I still have this Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I still have my never-working ****ty data cable. I'm running CM9 Nightly 6-30 and I really want to transfer several films/songs/TV Episodes onto my tablet from my PC, but this damned Data cable doesn't work. For the last 3 months, it has practically had no use aside from charging. (Even then, it takes me 12+ (!) hours through my wall adapter to charge from about 5 percent to 100 percent!) I can't transfer any files from it and I guess will just have to buy a new cable if I can find one online. I doubt Samsung will send me a replacement. Does anyone have any decent, cheap methods to use instead of UMS?
I also don't think Dropbox to be viable since I dont think they like these kind of files (Copyrighted Music and Videos) to be transfered through their service, and I have ALOT of files to transfer.
The cable works for charging, but UMS/MTP never works through any computer.
Samba Filesharing
Try "Samba Filesharing" in the Play Store (since you are running CM9 I will assume that you are rooted). Basically this will make the internal storage appear as a Windows/SMB share on your local network when you enable it, just remember to disable it after you transfer files onto your tab. I have had decent luck with it and it seems faster than copying over MTP anyways. If you are not running Windows on your PC, Mac or Linux can also connect to SMB shares. Good luck!

Either set up a FTP server on your tablet (DroidFTP) and make your computer the client using Windows Explorer or
Set up a FTP server on your computer (Filezilla) and use your tablet as the client (AndFTP)
I use Windows built in FTP sever on my desktop and AndFTP on my tab.
i use es file explorer to tranfer files between my wondows 7 rig & my gtab 10.1 . Works flawlessy. You just have to search for a new server & then configure the samba sharing using your windows Administrator username & passwords.
Hope this will help you.
but if you want a cheap cable consider a look at something like this :
http://www.ebay.it/itm/CAVO-OTG-ADATTATORE-CONNETTORE-PORTA-USB-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-TAB-8-9-10-1-I-002-/150795837652?pt=Altri_accessori_per_PC_Server_e_Portatili&hash=item231c21e0d4
Try Airdroid (free) or Wifi File Explorer Pro ($2?)
I haven't used a data cable for anything other than charging in almost a year. It's slower, but how much of a hurry are you really in?
(BTW- both of the above apps require only a browser - mac, pc, or linux all the same!)
**Edit: I've been using wifi file explorer pro for almost a year now, but just spent a few minutes messing with airdroid. It's actually pretty cool if you like a graphical interface. Might be more useful for a phone (expanded functions) but I'd definitely give it a look if you haven't already.
