Lou's #8 with Myn's warm z - Droid Incredible General

I just wanted to let anyone know what my experience is using Lou's #8 Kernel with Myn's Warm Z ROM. Most things worked ok, but I use the Sirius App and stream radio at work. With Lou's Kernel (SetCPU) turned off, I would get constant loss of signal. It would cut out all the time. Not sure why but thought I would share. With the stock Kernel (Chad's), everything works great.

[Q] Best ROM/Kernel combo for Batteryz

I see that there are a multitude of threads on this forum about best ROM/Kernel combos, but I am looking at it from the standpoint of which gives the best battery life. Performance is not an issue, all I am trying to do is get excellent battery life. I would like to keep SenseUI if possible, and an undervolted Kernel is a must. I have seen some information on Ava-Froyo V9 and was wondering if anyone has tried it and do they like it? Any information would be much appreciated.
I loved Baked Snack 1.7, and at one pointing got 21 hours of battery life, I am using myn's Rom now andking it so far, both use sense

Go to the kernel testing thread. In there you'll find which is most efficient, the idle energy draw is probably the most important stat. FWIW, CM w/ Snap 9.5 has the lowest energy draw and so probably the best battery life -- it's what I use.

if you like sense,
ROM - evio 1.4 or baked snack 1.8
kernel - kings #6 bfs or baked snack #6 (reads #2 in software info)
+ 2 to looking at the kernel comparison site someone put up.
To me it is completely biased though because what works great for one person and their EVO does NOT mean it will work as great for YOU. I would first find a ROM that you like and then experiment with trying each different kernel. Remember to wipe the caches before you switch kernels and give them a few days to balance out and see what they are like.
Personally I get the best battery life with CM 6.0 Final + Kings CFS.
Then there is the whole CFS vs BFS debate, again TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. My phone eats battery like crazy and it will drain in a few hours, with moderate use, and if I switch to CFS I get about 40% more battery life.
So what I'm trying to tell you is that take everyone's recommendations with a grain of salt and try every kernel and BFS/CFS and see what works best for you!
Good luck man
I'm getting ~36 hours off Fresh 3.2. I tried going to 3.3 and tried Myn's but neither came close. Not sure what the difference is, but I'm good with it.
Thanks for the replies guys, it's been a big help!

[Q] [Poll] Post your favorite ROM/Kernel combination for the Epic 4G!

I have to admit, I have selfish reasons for posting this poll. I never know what is the most stable/feature rich ROM available without reading through countless posts on several forums so I thought it would be good to have a central place for people to get an idea on what everyone else is currently using.
Right now I'm using Epic Experience with Phoenix kernel and my screen goes black with no way to bring it back without a battery pull. So I need to know what ROM to try next. My goals are simple:
Fast, stable, and most importantly... good battery life.
I just finally convinced my wife to let me root her epic in order to fix battery life and its not working very well.
I am using Baked Snack v1.3 and was on the Boss Rom before with Mixup Kernel. On BakedSnackShack.com you can download it for free. Herver was kicked off for asking for donations ($5min) before the public release, but let me tell you I have not run into 1 problem in ANY program in the last month...I don't plan on ever going to another developer because of his great success and features. He should be allowed back on but every time he does more drama happens. A rom is different for everyone and thats why there are so many developers to suite your needs. Good luck and if nothing else just try it out....I assure you will be impressed!
you need to realize what works for one person will not work for another. different combanations work and suite others needs then their own. i suggest trying everything out and find what works the best for you
I have to say, I agree with mysteryemotionz. What one person may prefer may be what another dislikes. What one person may notice as being a problem, another may overlook. For instance, on the EVO forums a lot of people like cyanogenmod. I personally do not due to the lack of certain functions like 4G and other things (havent look at their forum in awhile so IDk if its still not working now).
Im currently using Epic Experience and mixup kernel. I loved AOSP Magic, but Epic Experience seems to have better support. I prefer the look of AOSP magic tho. I havent tried any other kernel since Im currently satisfied with how I have mixup running.
Yup...baked snack is the best so far I'd say. I've tried em all. Still haven't gotten the battery life that I've read about in some posts. But the battery life is by far better than stock. I'm using epic experience 1.2.0.4 with the latest mixup kernel also tried the latest phoenix kernel with no significant difference. So I just keep trying new things till something better comes along.

Seems clear I've missed a few ROM's like "baked snack". I just used the wiki post for my poll info.

At first you say that you're using Baked Snack v1.3 but then later on you mention Herver and in the same sentence say "...I have not run in to 1 problem in ANY program in the last month".
So which is it? What ROM are you using that isn't giving you any grief right now?
Baked Snack v1.3 or Herver?
Also, while I'm on the subject, how do I add more options to the poll?
I think Herver is the developer of bakedsnack

I don't think there's a "best" ROM / kernel combo for everyone.
It seems that each individual's phones and experiences can and are different.
For example, I was running stock rooted ROM with every version of MixUp since it's inception. On the most recent MixUp I started having battery life issues with no other changes so I decided to try a few things. First thing I did was change to the Epic Experience ROM which did improve my battery life a bit with the latest MixUp back to where it had been with the stock ROM and the previous MixUp. After reading a lot that the Phoenix kernel worked really good with Epic Experience I changed to the most recent version of it. Battery life went off the charts in the good direction with no other change. Phoenix is suppose to run at interactive governor by default but I was getting some weird behavior from it, so I swapped it to conservative and it's working perfect for me. When using any of the kernels I always kept my minimum set to 200Mhz to avoid any sleep/lockup/wakeup issues.
I don't think Phoenix is a better kernel than MixUp, nor do I think MixUp is, just for right now, Phoenix is working better for MY phone. I'll probably continue to bounce back and forth between these two as newer versions of each are released.
The below screen shot was after some light usage, a few phone calls, little bit of texting, maybe about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time on Wi-fi, maybe 30min to 1hr of games, maybe an hour of web surfing.
Baked Snack 1.3 with Phoenix 1.49.
I got about 13.5 hours of battery yesterday.
I used the baked snack kernel for a few days with noobl's andromeda (de odex) rom.. With many apps I didn't need, removed. I had many lockups (especially while charging) where a battery pull was the only way to get out. The only consistent crash I could find was if I was plugged into ac, with screen off, and received a notification, e.g. gmail message.. Which meant for me, no wake up alarm in the morning. I liked the speed, but the instability, on my setup at least, had me switch back to mixed up kernel. I still don't have the best battery life, but I'm getting to the bottom of that in the mixed up thread. Fwiw.

by far my favorite and my current set up: apophis 1.1 (rom) and baked snack 1.3 (kernel), overclocked to 1.3 ghz.
i get linpak scores of 10.5 + consistantly and quadrant scores of 1010 + consistantly. this is the fastest combination ive ever used. when i first unplug it, the battery usually drops down to 95% in a couple minutes but steadies out after that. by the end of the day, once i get home from school, i usally have at least 20% left. and that's with 4g always on and moderate to heavy usage. once plugged in, it charges at a steady and fast rate.
i have my phone stripped down to bare minimum and only a few apps that i need. ive had zero black screens and few to none force closes upon rebooting but none to freak out about or anything that proves a problem.
props to the developers. thank you for providing the community with your hard work.

wtf OP? did you have to make a poll?
I had the same problems as the poster, but i think it was setcpu, i kept messing with the settings. I ended up leaving it on conservative, and it has not turned off on me since.
Im running phonix kernal / epic experience
I get like 20 maybe more hours of usage, fast charges, and only drains very little battery overnight..
i like this setup
I personally use Epic Experience 1.2.0.4 and Phoenix 1.49. I switched the governor to conservative because I had issues with the default interactive and have had zero issues since I switched. I got amazing battery life just 1ghz but I underclocked to 800mhz to improve my battery life even more without compromising on performance. If I'm doing something processor intensive I do bring it back up to 1ghz or even to 1.2ghz haha. But this combo works for me and I got approximately 35hrs with what I would call light usage. With moderate to heavy usage I average about 18hrs.
It definitely seems that Epic Experience / Phoenix is the most popular combo, at least with those voting.
Glad to see others have reported similar experiences to mine with this combo as well.
Could just be mental, but I also seemed to notice that the phone charges a lot quicker than before with this Rom/Kernel as well as not getting as hot while charging. Not sure how/if it could effect this, but it sure "seems" that way.

Maybe that was my problem. I'm now running Baked Snack 1.3 and the kernel says Here_Over. The volume won't work and there are other issues. My wife is gunna kill me if I don't get her a working phone soon. She's going to ask me to take her back to stock. (Ugh)
When following the instructions for flashing Epic Experience I never saw anything about setcpu or a governor. I just left everything at defaults.

Kernel Reccomendations

I'm running Com Rom 1.3, and was looking for some kernel recommendations. I'm running the kernel that came with Com Rom which I guess is OTB, I never flashed OTB 1.4 so I don't know if I am running it. I was thinking about PeanutButta Jelly Time but was wanting some reviews on it first.
I am running PB&J 50 but found the smoothest is 100 and i will most likely flashing back to that later today.
But i could never get ComRom to run with OTB 1.4 so i cant really compare.
Good Luck!
what are you looking for? with otb you can customize your clock speeds/voltage settings to maximize speed or battery life. with pbj your locked into set values.
I know it doesn't get talked about much, but I've always gotten my best results with times_infinity's ComaVolt kernel.
Im looking for the best stability, speed, and battery life
Sent from this EMT's Fassy runnin' ComRom!
OTB 1.5 running great for me.
Personally, the kernel in ComRom works great for me,so that is what I use. As far as other kernels, I have used some versions of otb which was good... but you have to find the right configuration for yourself.

Amen. You could get 1,000 replies on this and you will eventually get recommendations for every available kernel. Everyone's set up is a little different, and there are even differences in each phone as they leave Samsung. The only way you will know for sure what works best on your phone is trial and error on your phone. A lot of people are having great success with OTB 1.5. For some reason on my phone with my set up on Comm ROM 1.3 and any of the OTB kernels, I get sleep of death. I'm using ComaVolt and having no problems. That's just unlucky for me that I can't get the OTB kernels to work.

Same for me. Every OTB I tried give me SOD after about a day a half and I tried all sorts of different voltage combos. Comavolt game me SOD after about a day. I'm trying PB&J now to see how that works. I'm starting to think my phone does not like any UV kernels at all. Hopefully I can find a setup that works.

I have found the OTB kernels the most stable because you can choose to uv them or oc them, but you don't have to.
My own personal experience is that my phone can be uv'd to a point and then it gets flaky. I can nowhere near uv the way some others can... But I can experiment.
My current setup that seems to work best is OTB 1.3 with uv'd at least -50 everywhere and oc'd using 1200 as the limit at stock 1000 voltages. Gets me quick and responsive phone and seems to give great battery life (because most of the time the phone is spent at the lower steps where it's moderately uv'd).
I've tried imnut kernels and keep coming back to the OTB 1.3 (because 1.4 and 1.5 seem to break other things for me). For me, EVERYTHING seems to work on OTB 1.3.... BT, WIFI, everything...
But like others have said, YMMV. Good luck!
Well the -50 mv PB&J kernel is a no go as well it looks like. I got the SOD already. I would really like to UV, but my phone doesn't like it.
Wow. Just switched to peanutbutta jelly whatever -100v. Battery its invincible, and performance shows no lag. Literally my battery has only gone down about 3% in the past few hours with wifi on and light usage.
Try the comavolt kernel. I just flashed it yesterday after replying to this thread and have been running it nonstop since then without issue.
Battery life on comavolt is ASTOUNDING. I mean like shockingly good- on my phone at least.
I tried comavolt and got SOD on that too within a couple of hours.
I went with PnutButta Jelly Time 100, I like it, great battery and stable.
the otb kernels seem to work the best for me.

Rooted Evo Deck 1.3 Final

I am having the worst battery life with my evo 4g running gingerbread evo deck 1.3 final with the Tiamat Evo v4.0.8. Makes no sense. I have nothing syncing but it looks like my "Android system" is working overtime. Lol. Any Suggestions or anything. I flashed the kernal when I flashed the latest evo deck rom two days ago. I know I'm suppose to give it time to settle, but how much time.
Try SavagedZen 2.2.1 CFS HAVS kernel with consecutive governor 960-245
I notice no lag and battery life is perfect

Try rebooting the phone and calibrating the battery. Do you have a wake lock going on?
My knocked up EVO
I have the same setup...deck 1.3 and tiamat 4.0.8...and have no android system on that screen. you have something else goin on there
Thanks for your help! I let my phone settle all night and now the android system issue is nonexistent, but now cell standby has taken over. Should update my radios and what not? Can i do that being on custom rom?
Baseband version:
2.15.00.04.08
PRL version:

I just like decent battery life? Not crazy battery life. Just 12 hrs haha
I want to try the savagezen kernal, but I used to flash kernals too often so I want to give this time to settle and do its thing. Running out of patience though! With the tiamat kernal, what should be my scaling? Currently running smartassV2.

android system shows up after a call guys...Make a call and see what happens but that does not have to be the battery killer. It can show up on mine like crazy and I still get good battery life. Change kernels, drop processor speed delete apk's from system/app that you dont need and may be running. I mean there are a lot of things you can do expect panic.... Its ok give everything a shot you will work it out...
Oh yea change it from smartass to something else, you got choices what may be good for one person may not be right for you....
I just don't know what each scaling does or how it effects my evo. I just went with interactive for the time being.

SOD (Sleep of Death) fix for overclocked kernels

Decided to play around with bcm4329 wifi drivers and building it seperate from the kernel. I noticed that building it seperately gave me a more stable tablet with absolutely no SOD.
Warning this is only for FROYO Roms and 1.2 BOOTLOADER. Willl need your feedback on this. Thanks.
Will give it a try ty bro......WOOHOO FIRST POST.
Well been running it for 24 hours using Frankentab and havent had any issues. Seems to work really well as far as returning from standby. Didnt really see anything with the wireless. If you can get somthing for 2.3 worked up that would be great. Ty for the great work.
