Loud static on bluetooth - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thee people on they other end of my calls always complain about loud static whenever I use my bluetooth. I can hear everything clearly on my end though. As soon as I've switched off of bluetooth, the static goes away. I've tried this on different bluetooth headsets with sesame problems.
I've also tried being on the receiving end of the static. I tested it with someone else's mytouch 4g and their bluetooth. Same problem. All bluetooth headsets used in this test were also tested with other phones without any problems.
It seems the problem is consistent between several mytouch's.
I'm using stock tmobile firmware.
Anyone else notice this problem?

Try using a new OC kernel with a new bt stack built in. I recommend Faux123's kernels.
I'm on stock rom and he has done a lot of updates/upgrades with his kernels.
My Motorola Finite sounds great.

correct
i kan haz 10 char?

So the bluetooth issues are due to slow software. Are oc kernels different from running apps like setcpu? Are oc kernels built into roms like cyanogen? If so, how do I know which roms have what kernel?
I've read the all the stickies about rooting and roms, but don't know much bout the kernel level. I assumed the kernel was either 2.2 froyo, or 2.3 gingerbread.

No no no. The overclocking kernels are custom built kernels for the phone. Which many include different blue tooth stacks for improvement gains. It has nothing to do with the speed at which the phone operates.
the program SET/CPU only allows you to control the clocking speed at which the CPU runs at. SET/CPU in itself will not overclock the phone.
And to see what ROM what what Kernel read the ROMS thread and it'll be discussed.

[Issue][5/16] Sound popping/crackling with small fix

Since recent updates I've been getting popping in audio. This ONLY occurs when I touch the screen. For example when I have a song on and I swype I can hear popping as I move my finger across the screen. Is anyone else having this issue? Using voodoo control plus with version 8 driver.
EDIT: Emailed supercurio. He is working on a fix and I am testing it for him. The only tweak he said he found so far to improve this is using the command "echo 0 > /sys/module/printk/parameters/time" in adb shell. He said it should improve noise popping and he was exactly right. The popping is still noticeable but has much improved! He said he will consider integrating it in a future version.
EDIT (5/16): To be clear, Supercurio says this is a flaw in the Froyo kernel whether stock or not. I recently odined back to DL09 to do OTA to EB03 and still have some issues. Being on complete stock, the issue is not nearly as bad and doesn't occur when I interact with the screen. The issue of sound popping occurs about every 8-12 seconds when playing back audio of any kind. Here is one of his exact messages in our email conversation.
"François SIMOND - supercurio to me

Hi Zachary!
This is an issue with the [Froyo]* kernel itself, which is poorly implemented.
Gingerbread kernels are not affected anymore. Is it really bad in ED01 ?"

What rom/kernel?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Community Rom and the included rom by nemesis2all. I just reverted from jt's alpha gingerbread and it happened on that too. Dont think it's a ROM issue but rather a voodoo sound driver issue. Just seeing if it's just me or if others are also noticing.

Yeah I'd revert back to the previous kernel with voodoo 7.

I too am having the same problem and it's driving me nuts! It's not only when you touch the screen, but whenever the processor load ramps up, so it's pretty much whenever the phone does any thinking. Very annoying.
Doesn't happen for me (imnuts -50). But I'm using MortPlayer, not the stock Samsung.
If you're on the nemesis kernel, try changing some of the enabled clockspeeds?
Doesnt help. This also happened when I was on CM7 when I wasnt on nemesis2all's kernel. I realized this didnt happen until voodoo driver version 8. I emailed project voodoo to see what they have to say.

Have you checked the scheduler you are using? It almost sounds like the phone is decreasing the priority devoted to decoding the mp3 too much or it is giving too much cpu to the ui. Drivers

I had this the other day. Odin to ebo1 and flash back to comm rom fixed it.

I've noticed popping only since I flashed Jt's CM7 rom. I'm not currently on the rom, but the problem still exists. I'm thinking there's something in that rom that has messed up my phone's audio (hopefully not permanently).
Im having this strange pops too. I have a SGS i9000 and am using the Voodoo control plus app. Theyre very noticeable when i put on my headphones, horrible really. Id like some help or feedback on this. I wont mess with internal stuff since the app supposedly loads on top and doesnt change anything per se.
Try switching to the CFQ scheduler in Voltage Control app, if the problems did improved and rarely show up then switch to BFQ.
BFQ is the best for latency dependent data transports. I'm using the latest voodoo sound without any crackles or pops.

an interesting theory - I've now got the popping-when-touching-the-screen issue too. although i'm currently running imnuts 100 kernel; the voodoo 8 (plus) app; and stock ED01 debloated - I did tryout the cm7 roms recently also.
I expect that's just coincidence - many of us here play with various roms and such...
also - the popping issue happens with all the sound apps I've tried (tw music player; pandora; npr; tunein radio, etc).

I believe JT1134 and imnuts used the same SIO default scheduler, you should verify with imnuts.
Changing schedulers doesn't work. I emailed supercurio and its just an issue with froyo kernels and his driver so it wont be fixed until the new version of voodoo sound most likely.

I don't know if you have this issue or not, but I didn't spend time writing this thread for nothing. I've done troubleshooting and have followed steps to fix it and even emailed the man who created the drivers. He mentioned nothing about schedulers just said that the Froyo kernels are poorly implemented and he will have to find a work around for it. He also mentioned there is no permanent fix for it, only what is in the OP. I can sit here playing with schedulers all day (as I have done), but nothing will change.
i also experienced this after flashing jt's cm7 so im pretty sure it has to do with the voodoo sound driver in the newer kernels as stated above. even after odin back to stock didnt fix the problem. hoping next voodoo update fixes this issue
*edit
problem fixed after going back to stock then installing official froyo

Random Service lost and reboots!!

Please help!!! I'm using a Mytouch 4g with CM7.02 with faux cm csf stock power smartass kernal. I keep getting random reboots, like three + a day, mostly while my phone is locked and sleeping. Plus I keep losing service completely!! I live in PITTSBURGH, SO I ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE 4G. So its not a signal issue. It happens while my phone is asleep mostly but it does it too while I'm using it. It usually only last a minute before it comes back but today it was gone for bout an hour till I restarted my phone. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I try trobleshot for 8+ days and no luck on 3 phones and always I got restar's apps FC.
and now everything sems to run beter = apps fc or slow internet compare to any rom i try or kernel (remember you get downgrade Internet speed over time).
so save your time, My guest is the some hardware is not compatible on coustom rom's. the only bug so far I notice on the leak rom is the FFC not working right on fring I get side image but for the rest It works great,

Keep the original CM7 kernal? My battery life was horrible and a friend told me to get a smartass kernal. My battery have greatly improved.
I was under the assumption that the smartass gov turns stuff off like wifi, etc.. when its asleep, so I thought it might be doing that to my service too.

Faux's kernel has been tested inside and out with CM7, and while a minority reported issues, most of them were resolved (after determining some sort of bad install/user error) so I can't imagine it has anything to do with it. See how the new radio runs, I've had signal drops before, but it went away after a crackflash, so I'm assuming you have some sort of rogue service or something that happened that was causing the issue. If it persists try a clean wipe and reinstall cm7.
Which radio do u recommend to flash and is it reversible u know just in case

[Q] HTC WIFI driver sucks, possible to use CM7 WIFI driver?

All HTC roms ive been on suck with wifi, wifi calling in specifics. HTC roms i can go about 10 feet before it starts getting distorted, when i had CM7 i was able to walk across the street and hold a convo, ive tried the Best wifi performance switch (which i think does nothing at all) and its the same issue.
Is it possible to use the CM7 wifi driver in the HTC rom?
Im not sure what Rom you are using but the problem is most likely with your kernel. Have you tried flashing a different Kernel?
This one might work for you
Fauxs GB sense kernel
If this kernel is not made for the ROM you are using dont flash it. find the correct one for your rom

Looking for the right kernel upto 1.9MHZ

Hello I'm trying to look for a nice stable kernel for CM7 for htc g2. So far I've tried some which didn't gave me good results since one basically didn't let me play videos and the other one affected my netflix.. is there a stable one out there????
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Er, running your phone up to 1.9GHz will be very dependent on your phone and if its freezing, its too high.. I would think only a very small percent of phones will be stable at that speed.
Regarding stable CM7 kernels, pass I'm afraid. I don't use CM7.
Ye I know I mean some kernels are alright but some in a way affect other applications withing the cell that's why I referred my past experience with the old kernels I had sucky I don't remember the names
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Overclocking to 1.9GHz? Why would you want to do that, it is far from practical, if it doesn't fry the chip to begin with!
But...have you tried the Tiamat Kernels? Here's a link:
http://tiamat-dev.com/msm7230/
I'm not sure if they overclock up that high but it's worth a try.
Use Tiamat kernel and correct governour
For my HTC Desire Z I tried a Tiamat Kernel with CyanogenMod 7.1.
Using the governour "on demand" or "performance" I could go up to 1.9Ghz.
With other governours the system froze occationally at speeds over 1.3GhZ.
Best regards,
Catherall
Honestly I think 1.5ghz is more stable. Its already really smooth with cyanogens mod.

Battery Life/Temp When Running ICS

Recently rooted my phone and have used a number of different ROMs. The ICS ROMs for this phone seem to heat up my battery and drain it quite quickly. GB ROMs don't seem to do that. Is that the nature of ICS for the Glacier?
I'm just wondering what other users' experiences with ICS are.
Thanks.
Its a known issue with ROMs that have the 3.0 kernel. I know that the devs are looking into a solution AFAIK no eta yet.

He said ICS, we don't have any ICS roms with 3.0 kernel (because we would have to re engineer the rom.)
To answer the OP's question, i haven't been on gingerbread for a long time, i don't have a problem with ICS, check your clock speed, your governor and your battery. What rom are you on? And are you sure its not JB?
I was using Glacier_One_V_1.3. Sorry, I'm a noob at the whole kernel/governor thing so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
For now, I ended up switching to Skytouch (the i06 port to myTouch) as my ROM.

So, after doing some research, I downloaded System Tuner and changed the Governor to Smartass V2 with a High Threshold of 1.02Ghz and a low of 245Ghz. I'm going to see if that improves my battery life.

I'm very happy with battery life when I use Synthetic.Nightmare's SyNthetic_aospX 1.0.0-MR1SG. Is it as good as CyanogenMod 7.1? Hard to say, but possibly not. Haven't noticed anything in terms of heating, though. Newb, so not sure about kernels (except as they relate to linear transformations) but I think I have to be using aosp(x) kernel with that ROM...
My two cents
I am using Glacier_One_V_1.3, very happy with it. waiting for a new kernel about to be released.. and I am sure it'll solve a few issues maybe flickering screen/flipping lock screen and maybe the heating problems. Who knows
Battery life is good for me. yet thinking of getting an alternative battery. Maybe it'll get less hotter.
