Hello, I have been playing with my new Atrix for the past day or two. Rooted it earlier today (on principle).
Now when I connect to my windows 7 pc, phone set to debug. I do not get the option to mount storage. This means I do not have access to internal SD card, and can't direct load files to the media folder (unless I am too much of a noob to know how).
Second issue...Market works perfect. Appbrain shows "no results found" 90% of the time. Any type of sorting as well as certain categories return "no results"
Can someone help me out?

So, I have quite a bit of experience with Android, but this is my first 3.1 tablet and for the life of me I cannot figure these three things out...
*** EDIT: All of the sudden it is loading as a drive w/out me doing anythng, whereas yesterday it was looking for Asus software. The other two issues remain though... lol *** First, I want to plug it into my laptop as USB storage so I can copy over music and pics (wallpapers) to the MicroSD, as well as removed and save downloaded content. When I plug it in, I get no option to mount as USB like I do on Android 1.x and 2.x. It also doesn't show as a drive on the laptop. Since I get no option on the device I am thinking it isn't driver related, but maybe an option somewhere. I hope it isn't drive since I don't want to install one on this work laptop. lol Help?
Second, while the MicroSD is in the device there is an icon for it next to the time. Without unmounting the card, how do I make that icon go away?
And last, I have around 20gb of music uploaded to my Google Music account, but when I open the Google Music app it says there is no music on the device. There also is no option I can find to link to my google music account (which I thought should be automatically). My understanding, and how it works on Android 2.x, is that when I open my app it displays the music I have in that account online, but not on this one. Any ideas?
Thanks everyone...
Also, in case it's needed, this is the TF 16gb on Andriod 3.1...
I don't think there's any way to get rid of the icon. But with your music app make sure your gmail user address is right in the settings. I have too many addresses and sometimes use the wrong one.
As far as the MicroSD icon goes I believe that is an Asus addition to Honeycomb and can't be removed. I think it would be up to a ROM developer to strip it from the build.
As for the Google Music Beta, I have had similar issues. All I can recommend is going to the Market and making sure you have the latest version. If you do then the only other thing that has worked for me is trying a new ROM. I had no luck getting my Music to sync while running Prime 1.5 but with MagnuSupreme and Clemsyns ROM it has worked beautifully.
You can get rid of the icon if you are rooted. Just unmount the card normally, then mount in a terminal as root with 'mkdir /data/Removable/MicroSD && mount /dev/block/vold/179\:9 /data/Removable/MicroSD'. You'll need to unmount it manually and delete the folder when your done though.
Thanks everyone!
I just copied some photos from my phone to a windows xp computer, disconnected the phone, took some more pictures and wanted to copy them over. So the phone shows up, i clicked on DCIM and Camera, selected the photos, CTRL+C and CTRL+V on my computer, but nothing happend. So i tried drag+drop, but nothing happend, even after several tries. So i thought the computer has a problem (it's Windows!) and i restarted the PC and i still saw the pictures, but couldnt copy them. So i restarted the phone and what happend? The internal memory is empty (empty empty!)... And as it's mounted as MTP device there is no way to use a data recovery software like i could do with SD cards... i didn't like MTP devices before, but now i really hate the MTP protocol - something like that never happened to any other of my phones with internal and or external memory and which were all able to use USM aka mass storage mode. And who invented MTP? Microsoft...
Beside that:
* Windows 8 doesn't show its nice copy progress window when copying to an MTP device --> https://www.google.com/images?q=windows+8+copy
* Windows 8 doesn't offer copying with skipping existing files in the target (only copy new files). on the first match, it asks to overwrite. if you disagree the copy process stops.
So, can the phone see the contents, or have they entirely vanished from the phone's side as well?
it's neither here nor there, the data is just gone. thankfully i uploaded almost all photos to the cloud some days ago and everything else could be found somewhere, except the media files from whatsapp. so my concern is less about the lost data than that it happens again and i always found mtp slower and less reliable than mounting as a block devices (mass storage). beside that there is still alot windows software out there that doesnt work with mtp devices. the only benefit is that you can access the data on both systems at the same time. in general most points are already known, i just wonder what happend. is there anything for mtp devices like "safely remove hardware" for mass storage devices?
You could always switch protocols and "mount" it as a "camera device", in which case I believe you would have access only to the DCIM folder on the virtual SD. And, you if you need to transfer non-photo files around, you can always just resort to an on-device file explorer, moving from the Dropbox folder in and out, if you use that. Dropsync works really well for reasonably-sized files.
thanks for the hint. cause of that i already installed foldersync to backup files in the free 50gb box.net cloud which i never needed before. but it's never a bad idea to have a backup *sigh*
Hello all,
i've found a little problem with my nexus 7 tablet and im wondering if im the only one or if this is a general thing:
Android 4.2.1 allows multiple users and gives these users some sort of emulated memory (which is a clone/shortcut to the 'real' storage(?)). When i connect my nexus to my computer and create a folder 'Document' and put a document 'Document1.docx' in there, i can see these on my tablets (using a file explorer and officesuite pro). This seems to work fine.
However, when i open officesuite pro, i see the files i would see on my computer, but when i create a new document 'document2.docx', and reconnect my nexus to my computer, it does NOT show up in Documents (nor anywhere else).
I think the following is happening: the emulated memory is a 'clone' of my normal sd card, so when i connect the nexus to the pc and create a folder in windows, it will get 'cloned' and therefor visible in the emulated memory assigned to me. However, when i go to the filemanager on the tablet the memory shows as emulated memory, and so when i save a document on the tablet it ends up in the emulated memory. And for some reason this emulated memory is NOT copied back to the main memory drive.
Can someone confirm this, or check if the same is happening to them? If not, does anyone have a solution to fix this? I would like to create documents on the tablet and be able to connect the tablet to the pc and see the files i created (yes i know google drive/dropbox is an easy option, but im wondering why this method is not working...).
Thanks in advance!
p.s. this is not just a problem that occurs with officesuite pro, this also happens with other applications (for example i dloaded an e-book reader that created a folder 'eBooks' which appeared in my emulated memory, but not when i connect the device to my pc). do you guys reckon the applications are to blame, that they might not be made for android 4.2.1 and therefor bug a bit (which would be pretty odd imo)? or is this an actual android thing, since my download actually DO appear on my pc.
Hi,
I am so close to getting this setup how I wanted - it's frustrating...
I have a nexus player - loaded kodi, side loaded NHL network, side loaded Amazon app - all that is working. I attach a 4TB USB drive (formatted fat32) and although ES file explorer can see it and Kodi can use it, I cannot get move to SD working...
I rooted it, I have super user working, I installed stickmount and ran that and tried using folder mount with no luck.
The external drive almost looks like it shows up as 2 drives...
When I unplugged the drive Kodi somehow cannot see it anymore when plugged back into the hub.
I want to be able to load this stuff up because this setup is getting taken to a camper where the only internet will be my phone as a wifi hot spot but I don't want to burn a ton of data - I want to use play later to add to the collection up there by just transferring new files on a USB stick, also use that to sideload any APK's up there.
Right now the unit itself was so full I cannot install anything more so I was looking for an app2sd option like my phone and used the (root, su, stickmount, foldermount way I read in several places).
I had to uninstall things just to install foldermount but if there are menu's on that I cannot access them so I can get to createpair screen and navigate to the place where you would populate destination, but once at that screen - there is no way I can see to save that - just has up (go back)... so I am totally stuck - been at it for hours - about to just take it back and build a small htpc but I really liked the idea of such a small device with the limited space I have at the camper.
I admit I do not have a good understanding of how Android deals with it's file structure and mounting drives / volumes.
Is what I am trying to do possible or am I asking for to much?
I discribed the only way i found that works here:

Without the ability to install on an external location i think the nexus player is worthless.
Almost every good game is almost 2 GB shame on you google ......
8GB for a TV box is way too little without an external SD card !!!
I tried your way numerous times but it doesn't mount the 2nd partition, sometimes it doesn't see the 2nd partition, (intermittent) ...any ideas?

Hi ppl
before i start... english is not my native language. please excuse some inaccuracies and language defects.
I have this phone for more than two years now. already it have last OTA system update offered by xiaomi: MIUI 11.0.2 estable (with Android 8 kernel ). very satisfied with the phone itself... but the internal storage accessing and copying of files to the PC always been problematic.
first have to manually select "transfer files" option ALWAYS even selecting this option as default in the developer options, this happens since day one. "well, ok". second: access a folder with many files ALWAYS have been a chore... laggy, unreliable, slow.... but the worst issue is the folder contents often does not update correctly when the folder contents change.
lets say i access a folder with... 8000 files inside, using the PC with windows with intention to copy them to the PC (e.g. telegram pictures folder)... it starts "counting"... 100...200...300...500 files (¿?) showing some of them in no particular order... at some time, it stops counting AND STILL CANT SEE ALL FILES IN THE FOLDER!!!... and after 3 or 4 minutes... ¿it timeouts?... with a windows explorer error. "solution": unplug the phone, replug, have to select again "file transfer" mode, re-access to the folder, and windows "remembers" the interrupted accounting and the showed contents and began to account from where stops previously... after 2, 3, or more "retries", it finally "accounts" all the files, then i select them and want to begin copying to the PC, "copy" (ctrl-c) them... and lags before starting doing ¿precaching? ¿or something else?... sometimes starts copying... sometimes not... sometimes timeouts after copying 500 or 1000 files... sometimes sooner, sometimes later... in one occasion i use a file admin tool in the phone itself, and delete... say 5000 files of the folder. next time i enter with windows in the same folder, and the 5000 deleted files STILL APPEAR INSIDE, obviously are "zombie / not real" files, but still appear and still not appear other files that really are inside the folder.... this issues makes me angry... but still there is more.
a couple weeks ago, i change folder configuration in a camera app (one bought at the store, not the standard one bundled with the phone)... and cannot access this new folder from the PC. it does not even appear as a folder. it appears as a "blank file" with a "blank paper" icon, not identified as a folder and system not allow me to enter... restart PC and phone does not change anything... "bueh, some folder issue with this app"... and forget it.
and now it started to do the same with MORE folders in the internal storage. including some folders that could be previously accessed... now to access these ¿unaccesible? folders, i have to enter with file admin app on the phone, move the folder to another location and now (after a unplug/replug cycle)... now maybe i can reach the folder on the new destination.
MTP always been... not very "powerful" in the performance side... but this issues are ridiculous. i can bear a not very fast (30-40MB/s) file transfer speeds, and some lag accessing a folder with an absurd file counting (say over 5000 files or so)... but the lags, timeouts, have to "recycle the connection", deleted or moved files not updated, inaccesible folders... its simply overkill. its highly patetic.
is the accessing to the internal storage from windows in this phones always so terrible f#cked? i dont remember issues that bad with other android phones (samsung, motorola...) is the internal storage dying? there is a way to solve this issues?
thanks for reading.
ok ppl.
After some more time dealing with this issues, i have come to a conclusion, and a (in a certain way) solution.
the conclusion -> MTP is a hell*sh piece of sh*t, it's crap, and it's the source of all this trouble.
the solution -> stop using MTP and use another way to deal with this matter.
that another way is by using WebDAV, to accomplish this, have to do 3 somewhat simple steps.
1.- NOT USE MTP when connect the phone to the PC via USB cable. leave on "charging mode".
2.- activate USB tethering, do so by activate it in the "more..." section of the communications settings
this activates a network link via the USB cable between the PC and the phone. this IP network can be located by the IPconfig / ifconfig command in the PC side, refer to an ethernet "RDNIS" section. the phone side IP usually assigned to 192.168.42.129 (it can depend on the network configuration PC side)
3.- enable a WebDAV server on the phone. there are various apps to do so available in the play store. I tested some of them and finally came using "webdav server" (free version) by The Olive Tree, but you can use whatever you like or suits you better.
by doing this, and enabling (in my case, windows 10) a network link to the server in the files explorer... bang! access to the files on the phone with far better reliability and much less issues than doing the old way.
I post it here in case it can be of use to someone in the future.
best regards to the community.
