I used Fixsters method to make my non-rooted Atrix into a hotspot. I am wondering if AT&T can see that you have done this since you are using their connection and address in the APN. Any thoughts? If you did a tether via rooted phone is it safer? I have used PDAnet USB to my PC and than shared with my router to create a hotspot, but using the phone itself as a hotspot is so much easier. Thanks

Hey guys,
I have rooted both my EVO and Galaxy tab so I can wifi tether the Gal Tab,...all is well but the Gal Tab doesn't seem to want to connect it reads :Obtaining IP address from AndroidTether(adhoc)
I'm sure this is something pretty simple,...can someone help me out here?
Thanks
I can connect my tab to my tethering incredible with no problem. I assume the issue lies in your evo's tether app. Have u connected other devices?

Thank you for the response
I've tried WiFi tether and Barnacle both from the marketplace. Wifi tether just gives me the error mentioned above while Barnacle does make a connection with my Galaxy Tab but when I try to access the internet the pages will not load. Any ideas? Thanks again for the help.
Wifi tether is adhoc which the Tab can't connect to. Hotspot apps aren't adhoc which is why you can connect to those.

I've tried the hotspot apps but none of them seem to work. Is there a 'how to' guide here on the forums?
I am interested in taking the internet connection from a desktop computer through USB on my phone and then using the phones wireless to share the connection to my laptop.
At my work the only way to connect to the network is if they allow your specific computer onto the network. I have been getting around this by using a mac that is on the network and setting up an ad-hoc network. This had worked well but they are replacing the mac with a brand new Dell tomorrow! Ah!
Any ideas on how I can share that network? None of the windows machines in our office have a wireless card and due to whatever security I can't just plug in.
Please note I am not trying to tether.
Thank you for any help!

Well, I couldn't think of a way with the phone. But I did come up with this. http://www.staples.com/Netgear-WNCE2001-Ethernet-to-Wireless-Adapter/product_865869?cmArea=SEARCH
Connect your computer to a switch, connect this to said switch. Then switch to lan port. Then set up ad-hoc using this? Little pricy but meh?
there are many ways to do this, you could use CM7 for one, it has wifi tethering built in.
there is PDAnet that tethers through usb and wifi (i think)
also go to the threads for your phone and look around to see how other users have accomplished it themselves.
I just rooted and have royalginger 1.6 (loving it). I just tried the portable hotspot but couldn't get internet access on my laptop. I'm very familiar with tethering as I do it with my Nexus S so procedurally I'm following the right steps. It's showing I'm connected after I authenticate, but I'm not getting internet access.
Any ideas?
My phone is rooted, Atrix 4G, and I have tried using barnacle tether and wifi tether and I cannot connect to my TF.
How do I do this?
I understand it uses an AD-Hoc connection the tablet can use so maybe bluetooth or a hack?

The TF will need to be rooted for this method.
I have no problem with wifi tether, its a true infrastructure network. Barnacle uses an ad-hoc network and the TF will not connect to that without the work above.
What kind of problem did you have with wifi tether?
I can easily connect to my rooted Nexus One running CM7. I just run the built in tethering and connect.
What ROM are you running? Try the built in tethering if you have it. I didn't have any luck running the market tethering apps.
I have a rooted Droid and am able to wireless tether via Bluetooth with no problem. I also understand that I can't wireless tether via wifi because the TF won't except ad hoc wifi, which is what Droid creates.
What I would like to know is if I can wire tether. I bought a 2.0 USB to micro USB with a 2.0 female to female adapter and using a wired tether app on my Droid. The TF doesn't see anything, doesn't even recognize it's connected to a USB.
Any thoughts?
I just set my HTC Desire to be a wireless hotspot and my TF connects to that just fine !?

I believe this is because your phone creates an infrastructure wifi whereas the Droid is only capable of creating an ad hoc Wifi. That's why I would like to know if wired tether is possible since it would be much faster than the Bluetooth tether.
Wifi Tether 3.0-pre 14 **Experimental**

This was my only solution. I'm using my rooted Cyanogen Nexus S 4g with my unrooted TF
Wondering if BT Tether will work?
I have an original Droid as well, rooted, using wifi tether. It creates an ad-hoc wifi connection. To enable the TF to connect to ad-hoc you have to follow the instructions in the thread I linked to above, this will allow the TF to connect to an ad-hoc wifi connection. The TF will need to be rooted to accomplish this.
If your TF is not rooted, you will have to install Wifi Tether 3.0 pre-14 (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list) on your rooted phone and enable Bluetooth tether. Then go into your Bluetooth settings on the TF and Pair to your phone.
Hey all I was looking for a way to tether my hotspot on to my Xbox one via USB with out using my 10gb hotspot. I don't have a PC to use FoxFi via wireless any help will be great
