MediaHub + Samsung Apps + build.prop on TMo tab - Galaxy Tab General

This was originally posted in the Dev section:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360&page=40, but i have decided to re-post it here so that it wont pass people by and that maybe someone can come up with a solution or any ideas:
I know i have posted in regards to this already but i still have not gotten any help from anyone that "claims" to have MediaHub working with Roto's JMI v2.
So i have decided to experiment and here is what i have found:
MediaHub came installed with the stock T-Mobile firmware (JJB) and it works with no issues.
So i did the following: Copied all the files/apks associated with MediaHub from the stock firmware and saved to microsd. I then flashed Roto's JMI v2 and installed MediaHub but after launching it did not work. I went back flashed, the stock firmware and copied the build.prop (did this because someone here mentioned something about editing the build.prop but never explained what i needed to do), then re-flashed JMI again. I made a copy of the JMI build.prop and saved it, then replaced it with the stock build.prop, installed MediaHub again and guess what it actually worked. Well that's all good and everything, but there is a problem, with me using the stock build.prop and not the one from the JIM ROM, the Samsung Apps app no longer works, first i thought it had to do with the CSC so i went ahead and changed it using the follwing: *#272#(my imie)*, changed it to XUE and rebooted but nothing, Samsung Apps still does not work. I tried one more thing, i went into the stock build.prop and changed the Region from US to GB but that still did not solve the issue.
So this is what i know:
A- MediaHub will only work if using the stock build.prop but then Samsung Apps app will not work.
B- MediaHub will not work with the JMI build.prop but the Samsung Apps app does.
Even by changing the build.prop the tab can still make/receive calls and go online so i guess the build.prop does not affect that. Changing the build.prop affects the MediaHub and Samsung Apps app, at least from what i have been able to test.
The build.prop also displays some info found on the "About device" screen:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
*This is my current setup and just want to remind you that i am running Roto's JMI but i am using the build.prop from the stock rom as you can see above.
I have also taken 2 pictures of both the stock build.prop and JMI build.prop:
Stock build.prop:
JMI build.prop:
By looking at both build.props i can see two differences:
1-different tabs model:
stock build.prop: reads as SGH-T849 (T-mobile model)
JMI build.prop: reads as GT-P1000 (Euro model)
*so the tab will always read as a Euro model when flashing a Euro rom, maskes sence.
2-different firmwares:
stock: JJB
Euro: JMI
So in conclusion, i need your help in figuring out how to edit the build.prop so that both the MediaHub and Samsung Apps app work under on build.prop. There are people here responding to my post stating that it works but yet they fail to specify how they got it to work, that does not help me one bit. We are a community and we are working to help each other out, if you are not willing to help in explaining and breaking down how things in your tab work then do bother posting because it aggravates me as i am sure it does other people because no answers/directions are given. I apologize for coming out as such a pain but i am sure i am not the only one with this situation. I hope someone out there can come out with an explanation to this little dilemma.
I also hope this information is helpful and can be used in future firmwares.
Thanks in advance.

does no one out there have any ideas on how to get this done or does no one share my enthusiasm to get this solved?

lol well I share your enthusiasm just not the knowledge to help sorry I was trying to get media hub to work too, just couldn't figure it out...

I just tried MediaHub on AT&T and JMI and it works fine. I'm actually downloading Due Date now All I had to do was to replace P1000 w SGH-I987 I'm also running RichardTrip kernel 2.6.32.9, build number FROYO.XWJMI.Roto-JMI-v2 and baseband I9000UGJK3

What lines did you change? In other phones I changed the model and brand.

Gingerbread Keyboard Signed Flashable Zip

This is the Gingerbread keyboard apk and appropriate libs to make it work on any Froyo rom on Eris (probably).
Please report back with feedback.
EDIT: PLEASE! If you're not in the mood to have to wipe and reflash in case this doesn't work, do a Nandroid Backup before flashing. (Duh.)
Thanks to Workshed, I've got everything sorted out.
Mind you I'm devving while on vacation in Hawaii sipping on a Kirin Ichiban.

Sweet. I really hope this works lol.
I did test the two files on my phone, but I'm not sure how my update.zip will work. I'm not entirely sure how to make the updater-script. I kinda just lifted one from another update.zip >.<

Edit: Tenzo tells me I don't need the line to set permissions, and I need to add lines to remove the previous versions of the files that are being replaced. Currently working on that.
when i flashed i got syntax error in update script any ideas
aw shoot. I'll fix it tomorrow hopefully.
i did a manual install this way:

Since your phone is s=off it is doable, because you can change the /system folder and have stuff stick. With that being said i know there is a thread in the development section that has a lot of gauge options on it. If i can find it i'll post a link to it for you.

Thanks for the work on the link Neid. I am actually using one of those now.
I was specifically looking for one like the link above displays. Apparently I haven't been able to find that exactly.
I know some of the custom roms have it available, but was curious if there was a file or something that could be pulled from them to make it available for the sense, stock ui
I know one of you stud guru's can do this in like 5 minutes!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829
Cook it up here if you want. There is an icon like it in the battery mods section.
damn that's tough, I can't find the needed files. Thank you for the link however
how did you theme your current setup? If you used a flashable zip, you use that. If you used the t-mobile theme engine you use the apk. It shouldn't be tough. With that kitchen you just need something to start with, so as long as you aren't running straight stock no theme, it's a quick file dump and let the kitchen cook it up.
I am using the recovery back to stock, which was titled, 1980-01-06.00.08.33. I got it from these forums for a stock recovery with sense.
I am still rooted, and S-off, verified through 3 sources, and i can add mods.
I tried looking in that file last night, but didn't see anything.
You are saying just throw that entire zip in kitchen? I will try that tonight (Can't remember if the zip was over the 9mb limit kitchen had, which I think it was)
no that won't work. You need an apk to get it going, since you're using stock you'll have to find one of the t-mobile theme engine apks already included with stock. I think androidian is one of them. I'm a little surprised, for someone who wants a really customized look you shouldn't be using an odexed ROM. Something like RoyalGlacier would be so much better. It's MySense, stripped, deodexed, zipaligned, and has a lot of tweaks that are great. Much better kernel included as well. Take a look at the thread in the development section. The touchpanel update included in faux's kernel is worth it by itself, it's like getting a whole new phone.
Ahh Darinmc, thank you for taking the time to reply.
I actually have RG ready to flash on my SD, just hadn't yet. I know RC2 was giving me a force close loop, so I undid back to stock until they had more time to work bugs.
I think I will give RG a shot.
Again, thank you very much for replying, think I will try Androidian and then RG
The best thing about TR ROMs is their support. Follow their instructions for installation to the letter. After that, if anything, and I mean anything, goes wrong, post a detailed report in the thread and they will bend over backwards to get you up and running. Having problems with RC2 probably had something to do with a bad install (this is not pointing the finger, simply pointing out that when dealing with custom ROMs many things can happen during an install), the TR instructions are more detailed and generally create better results. Happy flashing!

How do I change my xoom to US version?

Hello guys,
I have a Motorola Xoom and I can't wait to get ICS. When I browse the ICS topics, I see a lot of people who changed their xoom version to US, fe from Canadian to US. I don't know wich version I have, but it's not a US version, because I still don;t have the upgrade. If someone could maybe give a short description of how to change it to US, I would be so gratefull!!!
These steps worked great for me
http://lanlith.blogspot.com/2011/07/xoom-wifi-non-us-ie-ukcan-301-32-in-few.html
Just follow up to step 3 ...then just wait for the OTA updates
My xoom was the UK version... now running the oh so smooth ICS with US rom and lovin it!
Thanks! I only hope this will work for mine, since mine is probably Dutch or European and the description is for UK or Canadion Xooms. But i don't think that should be a proble. Anyway, I'm gonna try and pray that it works!

It works fine. I did it myself a few months ago, flashing my Canadian Xoom with the US ROM, after which I was obtaining the US OTA updates. I don'T remember which procedure I used however, but I can confirm that there's a working procedure somewhere here on the forums.
I got it unlocked and every image would flash ok, apart from system.img. I really don't understand why. I followed the tutorial word for word and obviously I was doing something right or I wouldn't have been able to flash the other images.
In the end I just installed CWM and flashed Team EOS ICS from the recovery.
Worked Great and First Time on my brand new UK Wifi Xoom
Just bought a Wifi only xoom today from carphone warehouse and was a bit dubious about doing this, not wanting to brick my brand new Tablet.
I thought stuff it though, if doesn't work it can go back in the same afternoon that I bought it and I'll get a Refund (was last one in stock, due to them selling them for £249)
Anyway,
Worked a charm once I found the folder where the fast boot was hiding within the zip file.
Took a little while to do, but dead easy
The one thing I did wrong at first was not noticing that each image file had the same filename name written after FLASH and before the filename.img too
(i.e written twice on the command, must be going blind in my old age)
The longest part was going through all the updates on the xoom until finally getting ICS.
Working great now though.
Thanks guys for a great tutorial.
Dean
Are you HK or taiwan version? These problem is almost in these two version.

Were you able to convert yours? I've got a US wifi version, but my dad has a Canadian version and he wants me to convert it to a US version for him.
What happened with the system.img the screen shot seems to suggest it started? Couldn't see any error?
It takes longer to push the system.img over if I recall correctly its a much larger file ...
Edit oh, checked again and saw the fail. Odd. I can probably find and upload the system.img that I used if it would help.

Probably a sammobile.com firmware .
jje
This is not for i9300 but for i9308 which is a chinese variant as far as i know from googling, also found that i9308's stock roms are bloated to death with chinese apps and such. Simply just dont flash this as its for the china variant and bloated to hell.
I've come across a China Mobile I9308, and I have the Asian/Chinese firmware on it and firstly, removing the bloatware takes 3minutes (quick root flash via Odin, install Root Uninstaller App and remove all stock/bloatware apps). Secondly, to install Google Play Store (which took me hours to figure out), you need to install a "gapps(something or other. I can't recall).zip. Only problem I've run into is getting 4G to run after flashing it to AT&T. And last but not least, I think this is definitely not the Chinese Firmware. The Chinese firmware can be found in samsung's website and the file has a different name.

Latest ROM
I have a i9308 and any of the newer release of the "official firmware' messed up my start up and made it loop...
I installed this using Heimdall skipped the bootloader as it seems to fail in both odin and Heimdall on hardware build 6.00
I found the newest official rom bbs dot anzhi dot com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=6344702 ... sorry not enough posts to send out side links ... i under stand.
everything else worked fine.... after this and i was able to back and do the usual install of CWM ..... which failed using Heimdall ... again on the bootloader .... so using Odin it worked ... i used virtual box and Windows 7 ... with the latest Samsung drivers ....i had to create a specific interface for the Samsung in virtual box so the i9308 would mount with out conflict in windows .... i was then able to install CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 ...
Once rooted i started looking for a way to install google play and all the google services.
i installed this ROM anzhi_karben_samsung_i9308_V1.0 which had the google drivers i needed and was not full of to much other crap and worked well in english ... i found this here bbs dot anzhi dot com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=6198323 i used my Wiebo account to do this and was then able to download.
I got the google pack ..... well one that worked and after i checked everything did not have any malicious scripts that i could find ... bbs dot anzhi dot com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5401203 ... the zip file was gapps-ics-20120429-signed-4.0.4
i hope this helps some people Heimdall took a little after i figured out how to do this.... it was easy ... i have wiped it out a few times i nthe last week and tried different ROMs from the various Chinese boards ...some made very odd requests for SU access here and there ...i generally removed them after trying to find the offending script .... as i said so far the ones i am using have been pretty safe with little to no issues. I did go in and remove a lot of the preloaded China Mobile wares ...so far the phone is great ... i do fid the wifi signal sucks....
My first android i rooted myself ...see what happens after a drunk night in a taxi in Beijing and you lose your iPhone.... having fun.

I'd like to share with everyone here the solutions already working / verified to work to use Screen Mirroring in our rooted devices!
I post this because i searched for a lot of time for an answer to this problem and couldn't find anything!
Finally I found an anwer on another topic (Link here) thanks to @THEDEVIOUS1, so in order to have any other answer concentrated in 1 topic for everyone to find it in an easy way, here's the info:
SOLUTION 1 - Edith build.prop (thanks to @THEDEVIOUS1)
For this method, we only need our favorite file manager with root permisions or a build.prop editor
Open the file: build.prop (located at /system/build.prop)
Add at the end of the file this: wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
Save changes
Reboot your device
DONE! Screen Mirroring working !
VERIFIED WORKING ON:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 / N900W8 / Stock odexed ROM 4.4.2
[*]Samsung Galaxy Note 4 / 910T / Stock odexed ROM 5.0.1
[*]Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2" / P900 / Stock odexed ROM 4.4.2

SOLUTION 2 - Uninstall AllShare Updates (thanks to @chief10rules)
For this method, we only need to follow this steps:
On your Note Pro/Tab Pro find All Share Cast from Samsung and UnInstall all the updates. Then click Force Close, all of this should be done in Application Manager.
Restart your Note Pro/Tab Pro (Very Important)
Using two fingers pull down the main screen from top down to unveil the controls menu. Touch Screen Sharing while the Miracast or other screen sharing service (Wifi Direct etc) is activated on Your TV.
Let it auto find it and auto connect..........Viola!
VERIFIED WORKING ON:
Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2" / P900 / Stock odexed ROM 4.4.2
If any of this solutions worked for you, it would help a TON everyone here if you tell us your:
- Device
- Model
- ROM tested on
to add this info to the list of working devices
If you want to share any other solution, feel free to share it with us using a format like the used on this post and if it's confirmed working for anyone else, we will gladly add this to the main post !
Have a nice day! Hope this info helps anyone ^^

This fix got rid of the hardware error, but now it keeps saying to restart screen mirroring after update. No update downloads and it never connects after turning on again. Same message keeps appearing. Any clue how to get past this hurdle?
BTW, I have an AT&T Note 2 running 4.4.2 AGNI kernel.
Thanks
