I bought a Droid Pro and unlocked it nicely. It is ok, but not perfect. But the Verizon in built rom is very annoying. It is not allowed to forward call. I believe it is also slow down the processor and burn out the battery and make it last 4 hours...
anyone can help me to get rid of the verzion thing..? I saw some thread but not sure which is the best way?
root it? Upgrade to 2.3?
Yes I would be interested in that too, I have it rooted but I'm still unable to uninstall original Verizon software the usual way - do you have to use 3rd party uninstaller? Also, will it still be able to do OTA updates if Verizon software is getting uninstalled?
Step 1 root
Step 2 install titanium backup
Step 3 click on the middle tab and click on each of the following apps and select "freeze":
Step 4 enjoy a nearly Verizon free phone with an awesome keyboard and plenty of battery life. With the 1ghz processor and the lower resolution screen this device really flies. I love the speed and responsiveness.

Dear Mate..thank for your reply.
But i heard a lot on rooting, but I know nothing about root...can you explain me how to do that? I need to root before I use titanium backup?
You also mentioned lower resolution..what they means? Do i need to compromise if I did that?
Also after I freeze as your suggested, I can use freely in forwarding call ? or even get connected to GPRS/EDGE when roaming in China since I can't get connected which may be caused by VZ pre-set limitation?
Can I jsut install titanium and freeze as your suggested but not doing anything as your thread you sent, which seems complicated...?

1) Its really very simple. You just have to run a single application. its called z4root. Once it runs your phone is rooted. just search google. download it to your phone. run it. Version 1.3 gets the job done. here is even a link:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/z4root-110178.shtml
2)Sorry, I shouldn't have written this. All I meant is this is a great phone. I think its fast.
3) I don't think your connectivity issues have anything to do with Verizon or freezing apps. sorry.
4) You need to root to freeze apps. All you do is run the one program. Its simple. Run it then get titanium backup. done

I would unfreeze everything before letting the OTA update run.
I root the phone but, as you said, it is not related to verzion band control...i still cannot forward call in HK? any hint or suggestion?

Here are a few links with information (including the HTC website download mirror) regarding the official update from T-Mobile USA, courteously provided by: Pocket Now!
Upgrade Announcement!
ROM Information!
I will most likely be applying this update within the next few days. Although, I'm a little hesitant just because I figure that certain, "Manila modifications" won't operate properly on this upgraded T-Mobile USA version... NOT YET ANYWAY!
Thanks,
Downloading
Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore
Thanks for any advice.
I have downloaded this version and installed it...i think its slow and it lags. so i got rid of it and i flashed back old one.

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

UPDATE CHANGELOG! (Personal Analysis)
Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

my account application works fine on my hd2. overall, the updated rom seems to run a lot smoother. however, i still get the lag in sms but the freezing issues (to the point where i had to take out the battery once or every other day during sms) seem to be gone.

Anyone can help me to get MotoBlur out of my Milestone 2?
Is there anyone developing ROMS for this device?
I will be very happy with a standard clean 2.2 or 2.3 for Milestone 2.

When you install Launcher Pro it automatically becomes the default launcher and you can't get back to Moto. BLUR
You have to uninstall to see blur again

I already have LauncherPro as default launcher, it is installed since first day.
But this is not answering to my question, my question was how to remove MotoBlur!
EDIT: Motorola´s explanation for MotoBlur:
So what is MOTOBLUR you might ask? Well it’s not a phone as you might initially think. It’s a new service, a new skin which will be able to handle all your social networking needs. Motorola’s own Sanjay Jha showed everyone that half of the US mobile traffic is going to social networking sites. That means Motorola’s future phones will cover that aspect extensively.
MOTOBLUR will be able to sync email, contacts, photos from any source and get it straight to your home screen immediately. Whether it’s coming from Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, corporate email, MySpace, Gmail and more, you’ll never miss a thing with MOTOBLUR as the feature lets you manage your email addresses and social networking accounts. Or that’s what Motorola wants us to think.
So let’s check out some features:
Update social status on multiple social networks at once
Great visual experience
Check out friends’ status updates
Browse through messages in aggregated view or by account
Contacts’ status updates shown when receiving an incoming call
Remote delete in case phone gets stolen or lost
MOTOBLUR servers support
All we need now are some really hot Motorola phones to see these features of MOTOBLUR in action!
We need a new Thread for the Milestone 2
Indeed, I have root on my milestone 2.. with clockwork recovery...
but blur is still there... Need Cyanogen...
I've finally got my MS2 from Tim Brasil yesterday. First time on Android and can't figure out what belongs to Motoblur and what cames from Android. Is it just some sofisticated widget? What i'm gonna loose with no Motoblur. And what's the gain? Performance?
Edit: already notice it has its own message app, automatic back up with motoblur server, some contacts attributes, a function to link two ore more contacts from the same person etc. Not sure if I'm gonna miss it or not.
Motoblur is not just a launcher. Many useful widgets like News reader, Weather, Media sharing and the Docking station display rely on Motoblur to run. So make sure you don't want to use those features before you try to remove motoblur

Motoblur is also a number of services in the background. Services like the over-the-air-update-scanner, remote-data-eraser, remote-device-finder etc. You cannot just apply Launcher Pro, AWD Launcher, or something similar to your MS2 and think Motoblur is gone for good -> you just "hide" the Motoblur-surface, not deactivate the services.
I have actually used titanium backup to remove a large amount of the blur services it has significantly increased both the variety life and speed of my phone. give it a shot!

I'm brazilian and i found all of the apps to freeze, just translating the original name.
The list:
Code:
nconnected 2.2
Date and Time 2.2
ES Musica
Help Centre 2.2
HipHop Official
Home screen tips 2.2
News 2.2
Quick Contacts 2.2
Revolver TV
Rock On Altitude
Social Messaging 2.2
Social Messaging Service 2.2
Social Networking 2.2
Social Sharing 2.2
Social Status 2.2
Toggle Widgets 2.2
TrueCountry
Weather 2.2
World Clock 1.0
I installed ADW Launcher EX and then froze 'Home 2.2'. (* DONT FREEZE HOME 2.2 UNLESS YOU HAVE INSTALLED A LAUNCHER REPLACEMENT FIRST *)
In addition to the above I have also frozen these items, which I do not use, but which may impact your usability:
AdService 1.0
blur.res 2.2 (no idea what this is)
BrowserMessage 2.0
com.motorola.phoneaddons 2.2
Data Manager 2.2
Data Manager Service 1.1
Messages 2.2
Messaging 2.2
Sticky Note 2.2
Universal Inbox 2.2
Yahoo Contacts 2.2
I am still experimenting with other apps/packages, I have not tested if MMS still works after freezing messages2.2/messaging2.2, but I dont use it anyway.
So far my phone is running super fast, typically see's ~150-200MB RAM free, plus using Milestone Overclock I'm running 1.25ghz @ 62VSEL.
I'll see if the milestone 2 will be faster without this apps.
EDIT:
I REALLY realized that the phone was much faster after that. I'm using the Zeam Launcher and the transitions are softer.
Don't know if it's a psicological effect but one thing i can tell: With a new launcher and freezing this apps i have a REALLY FASTER phone.
can you please specify, which application does what? I guess Some of them might be actually usefull?
also it would be very usefull to know which ones have the most significant impact on speed and batterylife.
edit: also I love the Facebook widget, is it possible to extract from motomlur and use it with launcherPro?
I am curios about the same thing: what service/app included in motoblur does what?
What is part of motoblur's functionality and what is stock android?
I.e. linking Facebook contacts with Google contacts, is that motoblur or android working there?

1. with the facebook link to your person profile, some of my friends on facebook is not showing when i try to link them
2. with the gps thingie. when i click on maps and then use directions, it would not provide me any result. is it possible that it has something to do with my location?
3. i still got the 2.1 version, and i want to use the 2.2,
. do you have any direct download link for the 2.2 to be saved on my pc and how to update it?
thanks guys

Settings - location - and enable wireless networks. you can also turn on gps but i would only reccomend that if you have to since it kills the battery

Either use the ruu or settings - about phone - and hit the updates button abd then check now. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT IF YOU DO THAT

So I've finally jumped in and taken a Froyo updated rom (latest Midnight rom.) I have a couple concerns though:
1. Wifi Tether - On 2.1 I used MobileAP for Infrastructure wifi tethering capabilities and 4g speeds. What is the standard to use with Froyo? What about USB tethering? I refuse to pay 40 bucks for something I'll rarely use, but should be able to when necessary. Any and all recommendations that will allow me to get USB and Wifi tethering, preferably at 4g speeds, are welcome.
2. SMS Program - On 2.1 I had the option to go into applications and "clear default" for messaging so I could set Handcent as my default messenger program whenever I clicked the messaging link on my homescreen dock. This option seems greyed out on 2.2. How can I change it so Handcent is my default? It's pretty annoying to have to go into the link to clear out the number of new messages recieved in both programs.
Thanks and I look forward to your responses.
For handcent, if your using touchwiz, open app drawer, hit menu>edit then drag Messaging out of the dock, and replace it with handcent. The reason its grayed out, is because handcent is still default. Hope this helps.
Sent from my always stock, EC05 Epic 4G
1. Wifi tether is the only infrastructure available on froyo
the are the 3.0.0 versions here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount
They are experimental so make sure you have a backup either nandroid or inportant info and apps in titanium
u may have to try different pre versions as everyone has different needs depending on whether you epic likes a version better then someone elses or your rom likes certain things.
Another not about wifi tether on 4g start wifi tether in 3g first then switch on 4g
Wired tether can be found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964925&highlight=wired+tether or on the code google site... u said you were on the midnight rom so you should have a compatible kernal with that
2.
To make a messaging service default: the easiest way is:
1. Goto contacts
2. select message
3. then select make defauly box when it ask you what service you want to use (stock or handcent)
4. Click handcent and you set
Hope this helps..
Very good information from both of you. I wasn't aware you could replace icons on the touchwiz drawer until you pointed it out, thanks! It's just too bad the Handcent icon won't show how many new messages I've recieved. That would be truly epic. Anybody know a way to do that?
And thanks for the links to wireless tether and wired tether. I've installed wireless tether, I'll try them out when I get home.

I'm not sure how you lost vibration or why your keyboard loads slow. I am not having any those issues. I would recommend posting a screenshot or list, that outlines the differences between mine and yours.

Would the bloatware you removed be safe to remove from another model? I have the d803 canadian variant and haven't seen a list of safe apps to remove yet.

For the most part yes. If you are not a risk taker, I would recommend you use Titanium Backup Pro and freeze the app before removing it (and of course create a full TB backup).

yea I have titanium backup, learning how to use it right now. I'm only rooted though I dont have twrp or cwm installed. Is it a big risk for me to be doing this or do I need them installed because I only plan to root no flash or roms for me.
I can't say with 100% certainty as we have different models. I can tell you from my experience that I was fine with TB backup.

If you like the feature where it answers a call when you put the phone to your ear, don't uninstall Answer Me.

Anyone know if G2 has that "Carrier IQ" people have been referring to. How can we remove it If so?
Thanks for the post!!!
Awesome post! We should keep this populated with adverse effects so we can understand what some of the apps do or don't do.
I froze most of the apps you have listed without any real noted problems.
Thanks!
I'll do my best to update the original posts as others let me know what they find or if I discover any adverse effects. I'll note, having to work with sprint programming has been a bit dicey with what I've frozen. No permanent damage thus far.

Thanks!!! Can you put anything you are adding separate from the current list so we don't have to go through the entire list again to see what's new?
I did everything in the first post and now when I reboot, I get an error at bootup. The error is...
Sorry! Unfortunately, Update Device has stopped.
Is there a way to stop this from popping up every time I power on the cell?

I'll try to do something such that it is clear what the updates are.

Is Update Device frozen? I recall getting that when update-device is frozen and/or not all of the sprint stuff are frozen.

I would try re-enabling the sprint services again and then freeze them all leaving update-device the last one to freeze.
I took a closer look and we match. Another option is to give apply frozen filters in TB and post them so we can compare.
What I think is happening is it is still trying to do a firmware check and update (assumption).
Update Device Stopped
ChrisFSU,
I've reverted my phone to stock and went through the list again. I only get the error when update-device is not frozen. If it's already frozen and you have a NAND backup feel free to uninstall. Just keep in mind that you will not be able to use any of the update functions of the phone like PRL, profile, unlock etc..
