I just loaded SyndicateROM and wanted to flash the stock Sprint boot animation back onto my phone, so I found this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951184
And tried using the attached file ("epic_stock_boot.zip") and flashing it in CWM, and it successfully removed the ACS boot animation, but it then boots immediately to the phone without displaying the bootanimation or the sound. I am curious as to if I am doing anything wrong. Do I need to mount /system in CWM before flashing? Is there an alternative to do this other than flashing the .zip file, for example, can I adb push/Root Explorer push the .qmg files to a certain folder in /system? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is anyone else having loads of problems with clockwork mod and rom manager since updating to 4.2.1
For me RM doesnt do anything and I CWM keeps will not re-flash a backup unless its 4.2.1. Even though I copy n past to new directory where CWM keeps backups but will not reflash them. Also everytime after I use CWM it seems to delete itself and i have to reflash via the command line. Help welcome. Thx in advance....
Update: Not sure if its RM or CWM. Have just worked out CWM is deleting itself everytime after use. IT doesnt leave any other option once you try to re-boot device from CWM....

There's a file in /system that you should either rename or delete called: recovery-from-boot.p
That reloads the stock Android recovery at each reboot. Then once you have renamed/deleted it, reflash CWM Recovery again from the command line and it should stick now.
You're using the latest CWM Recovery correct? I don't use RM or CWMR at all (TWRP), so I may not be able to totally help out.

Hey thx - I have always used them and found them to be easy tools in the past. Dont really want to change to TWRP but it seems all recommendations are leaning towards and its the way to go with 4.2.1. Thx again... I have to ask why that file exist in the first place. Just to catch donkeys like me out.....Also if you know and are still around. Is there a way to restore old backups from 4.1.1

I've had no issues flashing 4.1.1/4.1.2 ROMs to 4.2.1 and vice versa...but again I'm using TWRP Recovery.
The file is in the stock images from Google, and it's there to reload stock Android recovery at boot...other than that I'm not sure of the exact reasoning.
I know that Android 4.2 has multi-user support, and that has been the cause for many issues with 4.2 in general due to it creating a folder /sdcard/0...so flashing multiple 4.2 ROMs without the latest CWM Recovery version 6.0.1.9 would cause another folder created there at /sdcard/0/0...and so on. If you created another user, they would have their own folder at /sdcard/1...and so on.
I would make sure that you have the latest CWM Recovery flashed to your device, then put your backup in the correct folder. From what I remember when using RM and CWM, there's the folder for your backup and then one level up from that there's the blobs folder, you'll need BOTH of those in order to restore things, as the blobs folder is the backup.
Hi, I have a GT-19505 using Omega ROM and faux123 kernel and I am unable to change the boot animation on my rooted phone.
I have tried copying bootanimation.zip to both system/media and data/local and the animation is still the Omega spinning disc, I have also ensured that the file has correct permissions using root explorer and I have tried to flash the file using TWRP (which failed). I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can provide any insight into this matter as it is like the only thing left I have to customise on my phone lol.
Thanks
I recently rooted my TMo M919 UVAMDL using CP-AUTO-FLASH via ODIN and then installed CWM recovery 6.0.3.2 from ROM Manager. Every time I boot into recovery from ROM Manager (for example to create a backup), when I exit recovery, I am asked if I would like to install stock recovery and I am told that if I do, the change cannot be reversed. Of course, I choose NO but this scares me so I wish to remove the install-recovery.sh file.
I have tried many times to remove install-recovery.sh from the Root/System/etc. folder using Root Explorer, Each time I try to change the file permissions to R/W, I am told that I am not permitted to do so for some system files.
Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
If I do accidentally revert to the stock recovery, is it really irreversible?
If I try to enter recovery using the Volume UP / Home / On-Off buttons, will I lose CWM recovery?
Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.
Hi guys,
I tried to install a custom boot animation onto my i9505 running CM12 and stupidly downloaded and installed the wrong resolution boot animation. Now when I reboot the Samsung logo shows up fine then the phone goes black for a while and boots up normally so there's no huge issue but I was wondering how I could recover the original CM boot animation/any animation at all. Have tried to flash a correct boot animation and tried to install it through system/media and changing permissions but still nothing seems to recover it. Any help on this is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance,
Rohan
Here you go. This is the default Cyanogenmod boot animation that I extracted from my copy of AntaresOne's optimized CM12.1. Copy it over to system/media and let it overwrite the bugged one, then reboot.
If that boot animation is too plain for you, I have one in my signature that works.

Strephon, thank you very much for taking the time out to extract the boot animation from CM! Much appreciated. By overwrite I assume you just mean flash the zip through custom recovery or is there something else I should do?
Use a file explorer and physically copy it from your download location to /system/media.

Didn't work. Not quite sure what I've done ??? but I do appreciate your time and effort with this Strephon.
No problem. It didn't work because I forgot to tell you one important step. You have to set the permissions for the file to rw-r--r-- for Android to see it. The CM12 file manager should be able to do that.
With my new found root powers I first decided to jump into customizing the boot animation. I know I should have done a full backup with TWRP beforehand but my backup with a boot animation switcher app failed when changing the boot animation. It essentially corrupted the original bootanimation.zip. Could anyone get the original file from /system/media (my original had only the Aquos logo; no Sprint or BoostMobile animations like the other archives in that folder) and upload it somewhere (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.)? Thanks.
