Crappy 3g data speeds check in city, state, zip. - EVO 4G General

Thought this may be helpfull as i have been reading people are contacting important people and sending emails to them saying that this issue isnt hardware or a given area issue. There are multiple threads with numerous reportings everywhere, so how bout we just put in one thread peoples where abouts. I guess just copy and past and continue with your city, state, zip code to show it is a nation wide issue. Please try to include an image LINK for proof of your issues...example is below. ALSO PLEASE CONTINUE FORMAT LIKE PPOSTED IN POST #5.
Seems like sprint just put out a new prl update...just dled it and got 1.11dl and .56 ul. Hope it stays that way. Update 3/3/11 nope bs dl speeds are back.

Brooklyn, NY, 11209. However, it's almost everywhere I go:

Metro Detroit -- 48180 --problems since November--
avg. 100 kb/ps down and about 150 kb/ps up

San Luis Obispo, CA 93407
same thing in
Sacramento, CA 95816
all since november.
def going over to the verizon prl again lol

Metro Detroit area... 48187
I switched to Sprint on December 18, 2010. One time (50 miles north of my house) I got 1.1mb/s down. Usually I just get this crap.
.18 MB/s and .47 MB/s up.

La Marque, TX 77568 on Verizon 3G PRL 00001.
La Marque, TX 77568 on Sprint's piss poor 3G with PRL 60676.
The good news... today I fired up 4G on my EVO for the hell of it (because I have never had 4G WiMax in my area) and to my suprise IT NOW WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is hope for us all!!!!! Not the best speeds but I'll take anything I can get at this point!
Woohooo!!!! Getting better each time I run a speed test!!!
ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toledo OH
Before November, I would easily get 2mbps down and 1.5mbps up, even with no bars. After November, I cannot get above 100kbps, with it usually being under 50kbps. Works fine in my home with my Airave, and works fine on Verizon's PRL, so this means its a problem with sprints network.

Well sprints new prl update 60676 only worked for about an hour thenbback to bs speeds.

actually what you have there is kilobits per second, not kilobytes. Take your number and divide by 8 and that will be the number of kilobytes you are getting.

What speed test utility do you use when you're tethered? mobilespeedtest.com is known to give wildly inaccurate (sometimes even impossible) results..
Hello Everyone,
I find if I use Opera Browser for www.mobilespeedtest.com I get realistic results.
If I use IE browser, I get some very unrealistic results.
Also, Read My Thread Here, I think we are being throttled but T-Mobile's network limiting the RWIN.
Even run the TCP/IP Analyzer yourself.
Thank you,

700-800kbps pretty much always (but i'm in the middle of nowhere so I'm not surprised)
230 kbps in dallas TX. Every time i call them they say there's a outage i sip code blah blah blah. When i tell them im no using those towers they say well its the entire city....And there script is "we don't guarantee high speed internet as long as your able to connect" On my Nexus one i got 500kbs all the time...I don't know what to say but lease sprint hurry with EVO
600-700 kpbs depending where I'm at

Sam here in fairfield county, CT. Im getting 126kbps in opera mobile...even though I have an 'H' icon on the task bar! PIE gives me unrealistic results, which never translates into real world usage speeds. im gonna be so jealous when the Evo 4G drops for sprint. Ive always gotten upwards of 2 or 3MB in my area with sprint's 3G service. I love my HD2, but tmobile's crappy, unstable data speeds, kinda brings down the excitement a few notices.
Is anyone trying to use the hd2 w/ the flex pay internet plan?
I'm paying $10 a month for unlimited internet. It worked fine on my unlocked iphone 3gs.

Ok cool, thanks...I just thought you were saying you had used speedtest.net, and I just cringe whenever I hear anybody referring to test results from there. Sometimes they're spot on, but sometimes they're flat out rediculous, and the results are all over the place...enough so for me to not be willing to guess which ones can be believed and which can't

Phoenix, AZ Evo users 4G is available in certain parts.

Tonight I was seeing massive service outages around the valley when I was driving around. So I started wondering what was going on, sure enough Sprint and Clear have been putting 4G in certain areas and upgrading parts of the network. If you visit Clear website and zoom into Phoenix you will see some spots of 4G. The only reason I knew this was recently updated was because Sprint doesn't show this coverage yet, and Clear doesn't have Arizona or Phoenix listed as areas with the coverage. Enjoy guys!
So to anyone of the Phoenix area that has been waiting, it's finally coming. Will post photos soon

The map you had is correct but when you zoom out its more accurate. The actual areas are around 7st and Greenway Rd/Bell Rd to 7th Ave Greenway Rd/Bell Rd.
The Clear website showed coverage around Dobson Ranch in Mesa so I tried to connect at Dobson and Guadalupe on Monday, no dice.
Crazy how we don't even have *any* word of 4g availability in the Phoenix; at least there's some unofficial progression. Honestly, all I hope for is some coverage in Tempe.
Can't complain though, not like I'm paying any extra for 4g now anyways ...
That's the beauty of Wimax, it's open and that is the reason why many like it better then LTE. It does not have to be official or confirmed coverage. If Clear shows 4G in a spot, your 4G Sprint device will get to use it.
is anyone having trouble connecting to 3g?? i haven't been able to connect all day. Im in Tempe and im not catching any 4g.
There is a ClearWire Tower, Wideband Comm? (some wireless Broadband spot) in Mesa Main/Dobson-AlmaSchool. AT&T is leasing that tower too feed with T1s the last time I was there (about 6months ago).
No 4G @ I10 - Elliot.
Popped into downtown Mesa about Mesa Dr and Main, connected to 4g with Fair signal, 1-2 bars, was getting around 4mbps down. Said it was connected to Sprint. If that what I was getting with fair to poor signal I can't wait to see what it's like with better coverage.

4G Speeds!!

I generally get decent 4G speeds; anywhere from 3-5mbps down and 800-1400 kbps upload. I haven't checked in a while until today and I noticed my download speeds are significantly better. Not sure if it is just today, but I am averaging between 7-9 mbps download. Did anyone else notice better data speeds today?

Hopefully Sprint did some work because my 4g is all over the place and if I'm lucky I can get 3mbps
I'd test if I could. I live in a "excellent" coverage area... but alas no 4G. Outside I'll barely be able to connect. Maybe 10-15s on "poor" signal strength.
Anyway, enjoy!
How do you test it?
Edit....figured it out

My 4g Speed is awful below my 3g speeds and i can never stay connected more then 30 seconds.
I live in seattle which is suppose to have good coverage
People with Wimax issues:
Do you have the wimax latest radio version?
Have you tested wimax in your area on a different phone?
Also, Clearwire maintains wimax, not Sprint.
I live in Kansas City, so i get pretty good 4g coverage almost everywhere. as far as speeds go im typically hitting 10mbps. sometimes as low as the upper 7s
at work i can usually hit 15mbps, I'll post pics. My friend has a T-bolt and always gets so jealous haha. But I've heard Boise was one of the first to get 4g, idk why
According to Sprints coverage map I live in an excellent 4g area, now in real life that is not true. I called them not to long ago about my lack of 4g an connection issues and they did a service call, recorded radio numbers signal strength and all that jazz. A few days later I get a call from Sprint saying that the area I live in does not receive 4g very well (duh) and they notified Clear Wire about the issue etc. etc.
In short I live in a ****ty area but their (Sprint) map shows this magic blanket of 4g coverage that is not accurate by any standard. I have all the latest and greats radios etc but its just a no go for me. Sorry end of rant.
4G is available all over my city except a 2 block radius around my house.... F YOU SPRINT...Reception is complete crap at my house that I have to Force Roaming too...
According to Sprint I live outside a 4G area. But when I'm upstairs in my bedroom I can parely pull in a signal. It was enough to save me last night though. Comcast came in for a preinstall and accidentally cut my Verizon line, so I have no hardline internet at the moment. Its nice to have at least some connection to the outside world in the meantime.
I live in Phoenix, Az and we have no 4G out here.... I wonder if and when they will turn on the 4G out here. I hate paying the extra 10.00 a month and I cant use the 4G
Well I don't know how to post pics on here but my test says
8/18/2011
Download 8007 kbps
Upload 1447 kbps
Ping 211 ms
Is this good?..

You must not like iPhones... Sprint's 3G speeds have been getting progressively worse over the past year and I'd say it probably due to free smartphone promos (e.g., free Evos through Radio Shack--I know three people that got them for free) than iPhones. Sprint knows about it and is doing something about it. I don't remember where I read the article (I just googled it and unfortunately couldn't find it) where it states that Sprint is improving their infrastructure. I flashed back to Froyo because I thought that might be the problem and my speeds did increase for a while and then dropped back. Just be patient.

Here's my "normal" speeds... I was getting faster speeds on dial-up back in 1995. This has happened in my area since last November. Before that, I could easily pull 2mbps all day and all night.
Everyone else with this problem, do your speeds increase late night/early morning? Between about 2am and 6am, I can pull about 1.3mbps, but during the day or any other time, I can NEVER get above 100kbps. Obviously this shows that the towers are just overloaded, and not broken, as Sprint keeps claiming.
Just did this test, also using 3g turbocharger script

Sorry to hear you are having 3G issues. My 3G shot up about a month ago from about 0.3m to more than 1.0m. I have never had anything below 0.1m unless I was roaming on Verizon. Now I'm pretty much above 1.0m with occasional slow downs, but still over 0.3m when slow.

No matter the time of day, .40 Mbps is "typical" for download, .20Mbps for upload. That's on good days. I'm aware of all the factors that affect speeds, I just felt the need to vent about it for once.
I live on an island in the puget sound in washington state and 3G reception here is horrid. And that's after they've made some upgrades to our towers. I really don't understand why our service isn't better considering I live within miles of a major navy installation (Whidbey NAS).
Been on Sprint's Everything Data plan since August 2010 with my EVO 4G, which also requires the additional $10 charge for 4G capabilities (the nearest place I get 4G reception is over 30 miles away). I feel like I'm really having it stuck to me in the pocketbook.
If I don't have WiFi reception wherever I'm at, I typically wont even bother with 3G unless I have to. I'm more likely to just leave it off to save battery life.
Okay I'm done ranting, thanks for listening.

I feel for you putting up with that every waking moment though.

Same here.
I don't think you are the only one. I came to this forum today to see if anyone else was having this issue. I'm also in Washington (Bellevue) and I used to get about 1,000 kbps and decent reception. Lately I'm lucky if I have 1 bar of 1x speed. My speeds are just as bad as yours. How is your signal strength?

If I don't have WiFi reception wherever I'm at, I typically wont even bother with 3G unless I have to. I'm more likely to just leave it off to save battery life.
Okay I'm done ranting, thanks for listening.
