how many clients can connect with Wifi Tether? GOgo inflight + Wifi Tether - Epic 4G General

Can I use my phone and connect to a wireless signal (gogo inflight) and use Wifi tether on my laptop?
2 reasons for this. it's cheaper to use Mobile devices with GoGo Inflight and if you can share it with a 2nd client, that's buy one get one free. LOL

Your phone won't be able to "repeat" the gogo inflight. It can't receive and transmit at the same time.

You might be able to blue tooth tether, but I don't know if wifi tether uses any connection or if it will only use 3g...

didn't even realize that we could BT tether, what about USB tether?

I'm interested in this too: has anyone tried tethering Gogo with a PC over USB, and have you been able to use the Gogo internet on your PC without Gogo complaining that your browser user-agent wasn't a mobile phone user-agent?

From lifehacker:
"Home and technology blog Unplggd offers a few tips on grabbing in-flight Wi-Fi on the cheap. The obvious suggestions are Googling coupon codes (or checking RetailMeNot) and buying in packages (you can cut out up to 35% this way), but it turns out you can grab a free Wi-Fi pass pretty easily through promotions. If you're renting a car, booking a travel package, or just getting a parking spot near the airport, there are often promotions to get a free in-flight Wi-Fi pass. Just call and ask.
Here's a bonus, semi-evil tip for getting a discount without any codes: identify your laptop's browser user agent as a mobile phone (Firefox/Chrome). When you fly, Wi-Fi for mobile phones is usually a few dollars cheaper than it is for bigger devices like a laptop or even a tablet. If you identify your web browser as a mobile phone when you sign up, you'll pay the lower price. Once the sign up is complete, you can switch back and browse normally."

I didn't find this one after Googling, thanks
(The point of tethering here is also to have both your phone and your PC connected to the internet with only one subscription, not only to pay cheaper)

Both Wired Tether and the built-in USB Tethering can be used to tether a wifi connection. I do this regularly as my laptop's wireless card is often allergic to access points.

A neat thing I discovered was that while you are on the plane, you can connect to GoGo without signing in. Most things won't work, but google maps and google voice will. I was texting everyone (GV) during my last few flights.
Anyone else discover anything else that works in flight?

Easytether vs all wifi tether

Not exactly what easytether is using to tether the internet from the X but it seems so much more stable than anything else eg. Wifi tether (even new AP mode release) and 3G hotspot. I find myself constantly reconnecting reboot and reprogramming the X to reconnect uses anything besides easytether. It doesn't require root so why can't we figure how their opening a port and make something similar that is free and doesn't block https websites?
Try barnacle wifi. I've been using it and seems a bit more stable.
If you don't need secure websites, I'd use EasyTether. Wired will ALWAYS be better than wireless
using these programs dont raise any eye brows at verizon? i dont want any extra charges.
I think if you tether, then hit UseNet and download 10GB of stuff overnight, it might alarm them.
For general internet use (checking mail, web browsing, YouTubing), it shouldn't since your phone does the same thing already.
I've been doing it for years and have never seen an extra charge.

[Q] Share existing WiFi conneciton (not 3G) - is it possible?

I'm wondering if it is possible on the phone running Android 2.2.
For a laptop to share it's WiFi connection (basically turning it in to the access point) it is not a problem.
There is a free soft for that, for example connectify (http://www.connectify.me/).
I couldn't find anything for Androind along the same lines, though. There are tons of apps that do WiFi tethering (sharing your 3G/4G over WiFi with other devices) but nothing on sharing WiFi.
Here is a use case.
You come on vacation with family. Everyone has a gadget that needs WiFi. The hotel Inet access costs quite a bit. So you buy one access pass and share it so that everyone (in your family) could use it.
As I said if you have a laptop it is not a big deal but this is not always the case.
Im not sure but I would assume usb tethering would do this for one laptop. But no you cant have multiple wirelss connections.
This only works with 3G unfortunately. I haven't ever seen an app that does that with wifi.

[Q] Android-to-Android wired tethering

There is lots of information on tethering Android to PC/MAC/Linux but I am having trouble finding any information or apps that can do WIRED tether of ANDROID-to-ANDROID, such as a smartphone to a tablet. Anyone have any information on this?
I have the same questionnn
Other location?
If this forum does not have the answer to this question, does anyone know where else I could find this information? I have done numerous Google searches and can't find anything.
Why not bluetooth tether?
Wireless tethering is the only option currently available for phone to tablet tethering. Either in the form of Bluetooth or WiFi.

Have tried but unable to get both devices to connect. They see each other but can not connect. I must be doing something wrong!
I just came here to start a new thread on "wireless tethering" between 2 Android phones. Is it possible? I can't find any info on it. I have a Captivate with an Unlimited Dataplan and a Captivate without a Dataplan. The one WITHOUT the Dataplan is on AT&T's $50 Unlimited Talk, Text & Web Plan. The Talk and Text work just fine. I was wanting to use my Rooted Captivated with the Unlimited Dataplan to broadcast my internet over to the other phone when nearby. We don't have Wifi at home. I use the Wireless Tether apk all the time for a laptop, but for some reason the other phone can't see the signal. Any help would be appreciated!

Reverse Tether + Re Tether = How do I do it?

Basically I want to share my PC's internet to my Android phone via USB and then share the Android's internet to other WiFi enbled appliances via Android's WiFi as a hotspot.
PC Internet >>>--[USB]---> Android phone >>>--[WiFi Hotspot]--> WiFi clients
I progressed upto Reverse WiFi Tether where I can share my PC internet on my Android phone using USB connection but then enabling the WiFi hotspot on the Android phone doesn't share this internet to other WiFi clients (although the hotspot works and client's can connect, but no internet access/data transfer).
For those wondering why would I dig a pond to fill it;
a. I don't have WiFi (trans)receiver on my PC;
b. My Android phone doesn't have a RJ45 port;
For those even wondering: I don't want to buy a WiFi (trans)receiver for my PC either.

I'm not sure how to go about doing that, it might be cheaper just to go buy a cheap wireless router.
Any idea how to do the opposite? I want to use my phone to connect to a wireless network and send the network connection back to my computer that doesn't have WI-fi.
It might just be cheaper to buy a wifi card for your computer.

It just has an on board RJ45 Network connection. The problem that I'm running into is I want to use it to stream movies onto my TV in the living room, but my router is located in the kitchen and the wife has told me I'm not allowed to run a network cable across her house

On a train for another hour at least. I will reply after I get to the office. Pretty sure Cisco/Linksys makes a box that gives you wifi access via RJ45. Have one and I know it works. Just not sure of vendor and model.

Sorry - long day. Try a Linksys wireless bridge. I have the WET610N. Newer models on their website.

I just want to make an android a WiFi router (not for mobile data please) or a WiFi extender...

Tethering ideas?

Hello.
I have a rooted Chinese dual SIM phone. I've been tethering to my laptop using my phone networks unlimited phone data plan for the past couple of years but finally they've cut me off for cheating.
I've been googling how to get round the tethering detection solid for 24 hours now with no definitive answer. Almost all the responses on the search relate to either people in America having their tethering options removed (not me) or people who think all they have to do is switch their browsers user-agent.
Obviously any windows 7 laptop runs dozens of services that use the internet, even if its just checking for updates through the day, all of which can rightly be flagged up as tethering traffic.
I'm quite poor and don't want to spend more than I currently do for the internet, I use about 10GB a month just now with hundreds of calls and texts free for £12 (Giffgaff). I have another secret Giffgaff sim that isn't activated yet, the network coverage here is pretty good compared to the rest so I'm keen to stay with them.
I've read a lot about VPN's but tbh I don't trust them, I can't see why a network wouldnt be able to detect that straight away? Am I wrong there?
The ideal solution for me would be an app on the phone that routes all traffic through the device, so that everything they see looks as though it has come from my phone. Setting up the phone as a VPN server would work I think, then connect the computer to it when I need it, I've no idea where to start though.
You'd think this would be a problem with a common, working solution, given how useful it is. Sadly Google is clueless on this one.
VPN data should be encrypted so they cannot see what's in it. The only problem you have is trust/security. Do you trust the VPN server to handle your data safely.
Next solution would be to set your home PC as a VPN server. That way your data is your data. But that does mean leaving your PC on when you want to tether.
Data flow:
Laptop ===> Phone ===> ~~Mobile Internet~~ ===> Home PC -----> ~~Home Broadband~~ -----> To the internet
===> VPN secured
-----> Regular transmission
Well, I would suggest something like EasyTether, it's a USB tether from your phone/tablet to PC /Mac/Linux. But what exactly are you using to tether (not phone, as in app or setting)?
