Another Big Announcement From Sprint!!!! - EVO 4G General

http://androidheadlines.com/2011/03...tml?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Cant wait to see whats next

Oh god don't let it be a collapsible 3screen android phone.

hopefully it will be the next flagship device announcement. android or not im curious to see what it is!

They'll probably have David Blaine and Chris Angel matching up in a "first one to blink, loses" contest. Sounds very exciting!

Probably a phone made by RCA or GPX, some BS off brand "industry first" again

Could be the Playbook, or the successor to the Evo.

This is the first year I'm not chomping at the bit for a new flagship. My Evo has continued to do everything I need and it's not really showing its age like my last few smart phones did after a year.
This summer I might save my $200 to put toward a tablet or something else. HTC has that cool looking tablet on the way with a pen for notes and drawing but I dunno if I would get one since it would probably lose all that cool stuff without a Sense ROM. I'll keep an eye out for the tablets from Asus, Vizio, Viewsonic, etc. with specs like a Xoom or iPad 2 but at a lower cost. If I can find a nice Android tab with Xoom-ish specs and no data plan closer to $400-500 I may finally pull the trigger on a tablet.
Hell, if someone ports Honeycomb to the G-Tablet, I might pick one up immediately. It's got similar specs to a Xoom (minus GPS I think) but only costs $400. Get Honeycomb on that thing and it's mine.

Yeah, I might skip this round too, as long as the cyanogen mod team keeps developing for the Evo, I'm good.

Even though I switched to the Atrix, I still got 3 sprint lines with one available for an upgrade. So I'm looking forward to see what Sprint has up their sleeves.
I read somewhere but I can't remember for sure where that the HTC Merge was supposedly going to all carriers...do anyone think that Sprint will be releasing that?

Uggh, I don't need to want another phone. The only way I would switch now is if sprint decided to leave my area out of 4G and do nothing about the terrible 3G signal. Then I would switch carriers.

Nah you think too much of Sprint. This announcement will be a phone from Coby.

Got a hunch it will be the BB Playbook and that it will run Android apps as the rumor supposedly states. That will be the innovation. Also being the first 4G tablet on the market. Since the Xoom won't have it's hardware update until after CTIA.

Im interested in knowing this as well. Does Motoblur really slow down the device like ive seen?

The announcement is sprints switch to lte..

Rule #1 NEVER buy a Samsung phone. Rule #2 NEVER buy a Motorola phone, and lastly RULE #3 if you buy and other phone for android besides HTC please check yourself into a psychiatric clinic of some sort.

Same here. I have never been completely satisfied by a phone before. I am truly nervous that they will release the next big thing and all of the devs will drop from the Evo.

How about a tablet with a slide-out keyboard?

New 4g Phones

Anyone jumping on one of these phones when they come out? I am thinking about getting the thunderbolt seeing as its all based off the dinc and they have has some success modding that.

I personally do not find anything on the next gen phones ( at least the ones displayed at CES ) that I would trade my fascinate in for. I am going to wait for a bit.
4G just isn't in my area yet. I am between 2 markets.
Where I live I dont get 4g but I travel a lot and some of the places I go have 4g. I am interested in the thunderbolt because it has the large screen and its not motorola.
I have 4g coverage in my area, work and home. But going to hold onto the Fascinate until something peaks my interest. Seems like all the 4g phones have 4.3" screens. Seems kinda big to me...
jv
I am interested to see how the orion and tegra 2 do. I already have heard many say there is a large battery drain with the tegra 2.
Upon further digging the snapdragon isnt the same as the dinc, its a next gen one, still not dual core though, heres a comparison against the samsung for 3d
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010...htc-desire-hd-vs-samsung-galaxy-s/#more-17339
Considering 4G won't be in my area until end of year, I'll start looking then.
However, my next phone will have to have these conditions:
1. Dual Core
2. Rear Camera of 8MB or >
3. Front Camera of 2MB or >
4. Android 2.4 or >
5. USB connection
6. SD card support
7. Ability to become PC. i.e. Moto's Atrix laptop doc or similar doc that would allow connection to full screen/keyboard (or phone would be kb/mouse).
I think these requirements are easily doable by end of the year. Plus, I don't think battery is going to be very much affected as some think by dual core. Most phones now use a 1500mh battery whereas the notes for dual cores so far are 2000mh batteries. So, I'm betting life is roughly the same.
Though, by next year we need to see a newer technology for portable devices.
Yeah, I really like the Atrix, its got all the stuff, and 1gb of ram. For some reason no one else is making that much ram on the phone. I just dont like how moto locks their phones, I get 2 upgrades a year since I have two phones so I am planning, right now, on getting the thunderbolt and then something around september.

I'm going to wait for the hardware to mature first.
1) 4G is not available in my area.
2) Battery life? Everyone is focused on 4G and dual-core... nobody has said a peep about battery life.
3) I'm in love with the Samsung Fascinate hardware. Going to an LG or HTC phone feels like a step backwards.
4) Hackability. I want to only buy phones with lots of custom ROM support, and will wait to see how the modding / ROM scene develops first.
5) I don't buy new phones. I wait at least 2 months, then buy used devices. I can use the phone for several months, then sell the phone as used for about the same price I paid. Doing this allows me to frequently switch devices, so I can switch hardware almost at-will at no cost to me.

Theres a full comparison of known stuff at this time, battery life is mentioned in there
I've just come to the conclusion that I am getting an HTC when my time is up. I really love this phone but the lack of updates from Samsung is just too much. This is my 4th samsung. I had the i760, the omnia 1 and 2 and now the Fascinate. I will not throw any more money to them.
just my 2 cents.

I honestly love the phone. Not that I wanna be a poser froyo boy but I think we deserve to have the latest and greatest. This phone has such potential but when you see what's coming out as far as in OS improvements and your not sure if or when it is going to be put on your phone I can't stand it. Oh well. I have one more year for a new every two so I'll just enjoy this pohone until I can get a 4G phone.
jv
Although I'm fairly sure 4g is available in my area (I live in Chicago), I'm totally content with my Fascinate at the moment. I'm planning on waiting a while for the next wave of 4g phones before I consider making the switch.

Yeah, going to have to be sure the next phone is going to last me a few years seeing as Verizon is getting rid of it's new every two program. I wonder what they are going to replace it with, "Get Screwed every two"?
jv
big thing I am looking at with the thunderbolt is the xda community and mods possible with it, all htc phones have had great support from xda. Modding is my #1 reason for getting a phone, I thought the fascinate would have a great community since it was all unlocked and open sourced, but that fell short. Not slamming JT or Dirrk, geeknik...etc, they have all done outstanding work, but I thought it was going to be like the original droid crazy, w/ custom roms left and right. I know the HTCs pretty much carry that and I am guessing they will be able to port anything over. My 2nd phone down the road this year will be based on HW, something crazy again, I dont like having a slow phone.
My brother-in-law Facebook'ed a message earlier this morning.
He is a die-hard Apple fanboy, has been waiting for a Verizon iPhone for the past 3 years, and just got his Verizon iPhone 4 yesterday. 2 months ago, I convinced him to buy an Android phone, and taught him how to root it and play with custom ROMs.
"Not impressed with the iPhone, hate the stock OS. Wish I could put a custom ROM on it."
That makes me happy.

Returning Tomorrow

So.. yea I think ill be returning the Atrix tomorrow. The phone is amazing: great screen, great battery life, amazingly fast, but I just don't think it is really necessary to have right now.
I wasn't planning on using the webtop application so that whole idea was out; the phone is fast but when compares to my Nexus 1 and Captivate, only loads pages 1-3 seconds faster than the two.
I'm planning on just hollding onto my upgrade until something else comes out or they lower the price of fhe laptop dock or make it better.
Anyone else with the same feelings?
Props on signing off without a list of dumb reasons on why you are returning it. You feel like you don't need it right now and there's nothing wrong with that. Good luck with your new phone.
me want but me no really need....
man i was itching to buy this phone. ive been holding back my compulsion to buy this phone but its geting harder and harder.
just got to keep teling myself that its not a need but a want. got to stop trolling this atrix forum before i nd up buying it

I just got back from returning mine. I felt the same way I'll hold out on my upgrade until something else comes out. My unlocked vibrant is getting 4x faster upload speed than the atrix. Now thats unacceptable even if att is the reason why it's capped.

Sailing in the same boat, leaning towards selling/returning
I'm probably returning mine within the next few days. It's a great phone but I'm just not feeling it. A lot of the apps that I use often are just more mature and have more features on iOS. It doesn't help that the bootloader is locked and I won't get to enjoy the Cyanogen ROM's I liked so much when I was using the Nexus One. Probably the final straw is also that I am not in a market that has the enhanced backhaul completed yet so my speeds are just as fast on my iPhone 4, which also natively supports HSUPA.
I'll be looking for another Android device as it gets closer to summer.
I added a line and purchased the Atrix at 199 for it..If I decided to return it, and use my captivate on that line, would that upgrade just stay on that line until i use it?

Yes. If you return within 30 days you get the upgrade back on that line.
it's great I'd you want to try ever phone and you can just keep switching over and over within a month.
You might have to pay a little for restocking or something (and the phone but that can be made up with return)

I was thinking about returning not because I did not need it but because of the random reboots. But I got that fixed today by calling AT&T and have them fix my account. I have the captivate but this phone is beast, I no longer have to worry about widgets taken too much memory, application running that needs to be close, and phone not performing because of too many things running.
Now I will take a lock phone that can run all my apps with no issues then a phone I can customized but still having issues with performance and memory. So at this moment this is definitely a keeper until something better (which I think won't happen until the christmas holiday). Let's be real the next bing thing on the horizon is the SGS II, it is likely not coming to AT&T so we are going to end up paying big bucks for AT&T 3G compatible version imported to the US.

Read again or call your resailers, there will be two version one with 850/1900 that will come after the Euro one. I don't think AT&T will be carrying it. I thought the same thing at first but I believe the specs from Samsung are misleading. Let's wait and see but I will not hold my breath.

I hope I am wrong because I would want it on AT&T too, but remember AT&T is getting the iPhone 5 sometime during the summer or fall. I won't bet my money on them getting another powerful phone that could potentially knock the iPhone 5. I think the Atrix was the answer to the iPhone 4 going to Verizon. It took AT&T a long time to get the Captivate in rotation.
The HD2 never made to AT&T although there was one with AT&T 3G
See I've had the Captivate and loved it and Android and was forced to get rid of it due to it's battery life. It would last like 6-7 hours not even joking. But this Atrix is a beast. I took it off the charger about 8:30 am and I have 30% remaining now and im a heavy user of everything. Streaming music using audio galaxy through my jawbone while connected to wi fi for hours at work. Battery life got me loving android again.

AT&T drug their feet on the Captivate a little when they had exclusivity with Apple. Now that Verizon and possibly other carriers will have the iPhone 5, don't expect any such coddling of Apple by AT&T. The CEO of AT&T has been using a Captivate as his personal phone since 4Q10 and made sure the media knew he was toting it. He won't be helping Apple out at the expense of other devices any longer.

I'd really like to believe that, but...it seems pretty obvious (to me anyway) that the Inspire and Atrix were gimped as to not knock iPhone as at&t's flagship. There's just no other explanation. iPhone is still at&t's top-seller.
I had been itching to buy the Atrix for over 5 months (when it was known as the Tegra 2 Olympus) but now, with the locked bootloader and the complete uselessness of the front camera and the fact it won't get Ice Cream till December'11, I'm thinking dual-core won't officially matter till Google releases a Nexus with it.
Who wants to develop for dual-core anyway when 95% of the phones on the market are single-core? If only stupid moto left the bootloader unsigned, I could have relied on XDA to deliver Ice Cream when it arrives in May/June.
Sad.
A lot people on these threads are dogging the Atrix because of missing features, things not working etc. Damn, can we just enjoy the device. The phone just came out a week or two ago, give it a chance. I had one of the Google I/O Evo's when they came out last year and it was issues with that too. They released the Evo to general public and those too had some issues that consisted of SD card problems, capped fps, battery issues, screen tearing and a lot more. But over time and with updates, the issues that was at hand with the Evo, got fixed and now the Evo is one of the top of the line phones.
I can understand if you just don't like the Atrix but to have the phone a day or two and say oh I'm returning it because it has lag or some other stupid reason..is ridiculous. Most of the time you have lag, it's because of a rogue app or setting. And when talking about apps, one must also remember that this is one of the first if not the first Tegra 2 handset on the market. With that said a lot of apps may not be compatible with the the Atrix...just yet. I know I ran into this issue when I bought the Nexus S. There was a lot of apps in the Market that wasn't compatible with 2.3, one specifically the camera app Vignette. I actually emailed the dev behind the app and they emailed me a different version of the app that worked fine.
I haven't haven't had a iP4 since last year when I sold mine. But for the people coming from the iP4 to Android, specifically the Atrix and is whining about the bootloader being locked, isn't the iPhone locked down as well?
All I'm saying is I'm sure that there will be some updates coming out for the Atrix that will fix some of these issues that everybody is complaining about.

I've been using the Iphones since 2008 and I think some of the issues that people that are coming from an Iphone are having is that it just works out of the box. I was use to a device just working and with the atrix there is a lot of setup time. The contacts are cumbersome and it pulls them from everywhere without giving you the options clearly to select where you want the contacts to come from. The android market is not as mature as the app store. If I get an app from the app store, I know it will work just fine with my phone, that's not always the case with android.
Despite all the hate people have for apple, their closed app store prevents a lot of things from happening. Their device works just right out of the box and a lot of end-user's prefer that and even some of us techies.
I work with PC's all day long and to be honest the last thing I want to do is work on anything computer related when I get home. When I got the atrix, it felt like I was working. It took some time to sort out all of the issues and I still have some that linger on, yet whenever I got an iphone it just worked. I plugged it in and it synced everything and it just worked. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the iphone is the best phone out there. I personally think iOS has grown stale and prefer the android notifications over apples, and let's not get into multitasking... I know android is better at that. The problem is that you have too much fragmentation and that doesn't sit well with most people.
Now you mentioned updates and that's another issue that android has... google doesn't update all the phones, it has to go through the manufacturer and carrier. That, in my opinion is a huge mistake, it causes too many delays and a lot of phones are never even updated. So, while some of the issues can be fixed with an update the question is, will they? The iphone crowd knows for them that it will because most bugs are dealt with through minor updates and then you get the major updates.
The android platform has a lot to offer, I just think google gave away too much control to the makers of these handsets. I think a lot of issues would be alleviated if google just took control back and just released the updates themselves.
I'm keeping the phone and so is my wife, she really loves the customization of it and the widgets. However, I understand where a lot of people are coming from, it's hard to justify spending money on a phone that just doesn't work out of the box.
As for the bootloader, yes apple has everything locked down. A jailbreak is all you need on the iphone. You don't need custom kernels because it's all optimized for apples hardware. You can find a ton of mods as well just by opening up cydia on your phone. The hacking community for the iphone is pretty active, which brings me to another point... I've been looking through the dev forums and most of what I see is dev bickering. I doubt we will see any solid development for the atrix when you have devs to busy trying to prove you can't do something and the others trying to argue with them about it. That's just a waste of time, drop the bullcrap and collaborate, you really never know what you may find.
I was very excited about the atrix, but the more I read those forums the more I knew this phone was doomed.

If anyone cares

Was checking the best buy website today and the Sprint Nexus S phone now has an add to cart button.
When processing the purchase it gives an Estimated Arrival: 04/18-04/21/2011
I opened a chat with a best buy rep and was told:
you : Is a release date available?
Tech: The date is on 4/18/2011
Just an FYI for those who care.
I just chatted with a Bestbuy rep and she said that if anyone pre-orders it and is with a different carrier they will be eligible for the $125 rebate that Sprint is offering if it is done before the 16th.
We're getting dual core's this summer, you're better off sticking with the Epic. The nexus s 4g is the exact same, except for it's running gb and has an NFC chip.
Yeah of rather have the epic over the nexus s
Sent From My Evo Killer!
I'm holding out for CM7 on my Epic. I'm happy with the Epic for now. It has everything I need and some things I don't (keyboard). I'm not really looking to get back into Samsung unless it is a Nexus because its pure google. My girl wants one so will get one for her and get rid of her Epic, but as for me I agree about holding out for later this year.
Epic 4g> Nexus s 4g
only benefit is that its pure google and that chip oh and gingerbread
but i like my epic hardware keyboard better then those things
im happy with froyo and besides if people do but this phone it may make it easier to port new Android versions and stuff like 4g working on CM7 and what not.

That's a personal preference thing, I could argue that thinner is better, it certainly doesn't make one better than the other.
Yep to personal preference... if i could switch to the Nexus... in a heart beat will i ? HELL NO it's not worth the amount of money.... ill wait for a decent Dual Core

too me, i think the epic has some of the best hardware and is the only top of the line phone with the hardware kb and for a keyboard phone i think it is so sexy and thin
compared to the moment, the tp2 tp1, i think a lot more people like having that keyboard, all my friends that have galaxy s variants hate me cause i have the hardware keyboard.
but your right it is a preference
mind telling me why you didnt get the evo if you like thin phones?
was it the screen and the hardware on the epic?

I did have the Evo originally and it's still sitting in my drawer in the event I need a backup phone.
I switched for 3 Reasons.
The extremely poor GPU in the Evo.
It's weight vs. the Epic (or any SGS)
The direction HTC is going in.

We're getting dual core's this summer, you're better off sticking with the Epic. The nexus s 4g is the exact same, except for it's running gb and has an NFC chip.

Are we getting dual core pure Google phones on sprint? Is the next Nexus close to the horizon and in dual core?

agreed.
i will be picking up my nexus 4g the day it comes out, why? i am going to be stuck in a contract for 2 years with it. there is no doubts in my mind, the sgx540 in the SGS lineup is hands down the best phone gpu on the market (check glbenckmark.com) in terms of overall benchmark gpu scores the nexus s is 4 slots down from the ipad 2 (you know that new dual core tablet thats been crushing everything in terms of speed) so as far as i see it i have a choice between the epic or the ns4g. the epic is a decent enough phone. i love hard ware keyboards, but i want upgrades for 2 years... ask anyone on the nexus forums if they regret getting a nexus device. im willing to bet 99.9 of them will tell you they love having 2.3.3
i couldnt care at all about nfc (yay non scannable qr codes... woopie..) but its more about the simple things. i very rarely run any stock rom, most of the time is cyanogenmod, i congratulate the devs on trying so hard to bring it to the epic but its still got a bit to go. i guarantee the nexus s 4g will have an official repo/build within a week of cm7.
now whats the worst part about nexus s 4g? the camcorder.. its locked at 480p due to hardware limitations, but i can get over that as i dont use my phone as a video camera. no sd card slot? nah ive owned cell phones before they used microsd, and i own an ipod.. so im kinda used to the whole concept of being stuck with a size, besides refer to above point.. no video means less space taken up by media. no i would have to say the worst part about getting a nexus s 4g is knowing that with gb out and hc being held off for tablets only.. that ice cream is a bit off and that means its gunna be a bit of a wait for me to get my next dose of android medicine.
P.S i know i cant be the only one hoping that moto gets skipped on the next nexus device and lg gets it
For those who are interested, I just got a 10% off coupon in the email from Best Buy. That means a 10% discount on preorders of. Nexxus S

I have this dumb habit of getting the cooler (in MY opinion) and more unique thing when I have a choice between it and something a little less cool but better supported. I own a Zune instead of an iPod, a Mazdaspeed3 instead of a WRX, I used to have an HPI RC car instead of an Associated RC-* that was gas powered instead of electric, and an Epic instead of an Evo, etc.
On one hand, I have never once wanted to kick the phone across the parking lot like I did with the Hero, but on the other hand, the Evo has more accessories that can be bought in brick and mortar stores, more custom ROMs including a more functional CM (much love, you guys really picked a whore of a phone to port to) and more fully functioning root apps.
I know in my heart that if I did get the Evo, I'd be kicking myself for not getting the far more powerful Epic. In this upgrade cycle I think I made the right decision to give Samsung another chance. I still don't trust them to the level of HTC (started with them back in the Titan days) but if they can make a hot-rod Google Experience phone then I'm definitely on board.
If anyone cares.

That new EVO looks pretty sweet. I think I'm going to hold out for it. And for those of you that get your phones from Best Buy, you are better off going to a Sprint Store.

Dont hold your breath waiting this year for a nexus prime; I wouldn't expect that until next year some time. I think the photon, iphone 4s, htc kingdom, hero 4g, and some random wp7 mango phones are all thats coming out this year. At least that's the only phones we will care about lol. I cant prove this information im just stating rumors and info that leaked on other websites; it could all be false lol.
I dont know why but i have a weird feeling the sprint sgs2 is going to have a keyboard like the first galaxy did and the real galaxy s 2 (samsung within) is something entirely different.
FINALLY!
After almost three years of android phones, I'm bored as hell. Yeah my current G2x is near instant in almost every UI interaction, over 5000 quadrant, etc etc but Android itself is just boring at this point. I'm hoping something hardware wise can amaze me and renew my interest in Android, and I'm thinking the SAMOLED+ screen might be it.

I still have my 3D and yes im looking to sell it. Im currently in an htc arrive atm looking to purchase a better android device. I hate the 3D.
I wonder if this could be the 4.5" Hercules rumored for T-mobile, except for Sprint? Seeing as the dimensions are wider and taller than the international version. Could be just to make room for WiMax radios I guess.
So do you think we would be able to start using the custom ROMs that are already available for the international version when this one comes out?

Its hard to tell so early isnt it? probably could port. Idk man im stuck in a situation right now to even start thinking about that so early. I wanna sell my evo 3D, I still have my upgrade which means my contract is already expired, should I buy this with my upgrade? I planned on leaving sprint to get the iphone 5 so i dont know what to do! ahhh
I have upgrades available on two of my lines that I may be using if something truly intriguing comes out. After the track record that Samsung and Sprint have when it comes to system updates, I am probably not going for the SG2, as pretty and awesome as it is. I will see what comes out there.
Yea well cyanogen is already supporting the sgs2 or they have a couple and are developing cm for it I dunno I don't really keep up on it but it should be fully tweak able unlike the 3d(for now). I love my evo 4g but I think it's a good time to up my cores. Plus, HTC isn't earning any points by not sticking to their promises like releasing source code whenever they damn well please and the whole bootloader fiasco. All that just makes those samoled screens look even better. Wish they weren't all plastic but thats apparently how you have to make a thin phone. Just looks cheap for such an expensive piece of hardware.

Yeah the 3D is not my cup of tea either. Play around with it at the store and wasn't impress by it at all. Love my 4G but absolutely hate my video cam on it. Very very poor in low light (every custom rom available) compare to my Daughter's Epic and this SG2 which seem to probably be alot better then the 3D or any HTC in that department. So this might be my next phone as well if nothing else releases by then.

Yeah dude thats one thing about that sgs2, that thing is fully plastic and super light weight. I really like the metal/heavy phones!!! I would be scared to keep that phone in my pocket because its so plastic thin.

[Q] What phone are you looking forward to getting next?

I was planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus once it becomes available on Sprint, but after realizing it has no SD slot I've changed my mind. For some that may not be an issue, but I like using my phone as a MP3 player and really don't want to purchase a separate device for that. The Galaxy Note looks promising, but that could be even further down the road and it is a little too big for my tastes. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Since I am not getting a new phone until July, the phone I am getting isn't out yet. If no keyboard quad core LTE is in the pike then the Galaxy Journal is looking good.
Well...considering how horrible my credit score is .... and sprint is the only company that will even CONSIDER re-newing my contact, ill probably be going with EVO 3D or Galaxy S2. I am proud to say I STILL have never owned an iphone and dont plan on doing so any time soon.
However, I must say CM9 has opened my epic up to a whole new world of pant creamage, so i'll probably be sticking with my epic for awhile.

I have myself an Epic and I I am quite content with it in it's rooted state. I would imagine the S2 rooted would make for a beast of a phone. Everyone is always looking to get the next best thing, but realistically how powerful does your phone really need to be?

I agree, it's already like a brand new phone. Although, I've never quite liked how bulky the phone is, especially with a case on it. The epic 4g touch is a pretty sexy phone to hold on to. But I don't see myself changing phones anytime soon with CM9 as good as it is, and keeps getting better.
I really want the Galaxy Nexus but I am happy with my Epic for now. Depending on if I get a decent job after I graduate in may and if the company has good phone discounts ill probably try to get one on sprint. If not ill probably try to buy one with a bad esn and flash to virgin mobile. I don't have to have 4g and could definitely live without it for $25 a month.
my upgrade isn't until august, although at the moment i plan to get the galaxy nexus.
But there is a lot of time left for me to change my mind.

Something with LTE
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Nothing. There is not a single phone on the market or even in the pipeline that I am aware of that I look forward to purchasing to replace my Epic. Except maybe another Epic if this one breaks. My next phone MUST have a physical slide-out keyboard, as well as LTE, multi-core, and unlocked bootloader. I will ditch Sprint for Verizon if I have to, but even the Droid 4 fails to meet my requirements because Motorola has their head up their *** and locks the bootloader on everything. I am very disappointed but hopefully Samsung or HTC will surprise me with a qwerty superphone. Otherwise the Epic will be my phone of choice for the next few years.
I'm actually still pretty happy with my phone as others are here, but I will actually NOT be getting a physical keyboard on my next phone. I thought it was a necessity, but I have fallen in love with SwiftKey, and I don't see a need for a physical keyboard anymore.
I would much rather have a slimmer form factor. However I'm guessing the only requirement my next phone will have is LTE.
My contract is already up and i was planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus when it came out for Sprint, but that was before our awesome devs managed to get CM9 on our epics. Now i am patiently waiting for the next nexus phone
CM9 really did bring new life to the Epic, Im completely satisfied with it now.

I actually dislike slimmer phones. They don't feel right in my hand and are usually slippery also. I always cringe when the phone slips out of my hand and smashes open on the concrete. I think the Epic with a standard battery is already slim and light enough and I wouldn't want anything slimmer. I would MUCH prefer the heavy metallic feel of an HTC phone (like the G2), but HTC doesn't make any decent qwerty phones like that anymore.
I agree with most of you guys, as long as we keep getting CM9 updates I have no problem sticking with the epic for another year.

I've had an upgrade for a little over a year now, on my line. Haven't moved from the Epic as nothing has really offered a significant upgrade. My next phone? LTE without question (but it needs to be in Chicago as the 3G speeds here are atrocious), made by either Samsung or HTC, though I'd have a tough time moving from Samsung. Outside of that, no real requirements. I'd like 2GB of RAM, but that might be 2013, who knows. I think unlocked bootloader goes without question as there is no way I could go stock anything after having an Epic...

That's great and all, but doesn't help when I'm not in good service areas. In my line of work, I'm in very spotty areas all the time and I need my phone's network to not be cluttered up so I can receive business calls/txts reliably.
