[Q] Non-Image E-Mail Attachments? - Xoom General

I think I might be missing something here..
I've been trying to send a non-image file I have on my Xoom to a friend via the stock e-mail client and when I try to add an attachment it opens the "Gallery" as opposed to a file explorer like I would have expected (also side question, is there a default file explorer on the Xoom?) and the only files available for selection are images stored on the device.
Anyone have similar behavior or a work around to attach non-image files to an e-mail using the stock client?

Can Magic (or Android) open .eml, .msg, .rar, .zip, .ppt, .csv, .tif, .jpg, .gif?

I am now using Touch Diamond receiving emails everyday and kinda interested in Magic. But would like to know if Magic can open .eml, .msg, .rar, .zip, .ppt, .csv, .tif, .jpg, .gif files? They are often attachments in my emails.
Thanks to anyone who can answer my query!

I know it can open tif, jpg, gif by default. U can download a program from the market that opens zip files. Dunno about the rest, but the Android Market is so full of programs so i would think theres an app for any kind of extension.
Is there any way to open .msg files in Android?
How we converter EML to MSG free download
Using the sysessential EML to MSG software, you can convert selective NSF files to EML to MSG. All your contacts, notes, messages, calendars are exported safely from EML to MSG file format.

File and Directory browsing

I am coming from Windows Mobile experience and I have a basic file browsing question. Using Dolphin I downloaded a YouTube video I wanted to watch later. It just occurred to me though that I have absolutely no idea how to browse to find that file. Is there any sort of file or directory browsing possible?
What am I missing? Where are downloaded files stored? How do you access a file on your memory card?
If you open the photo gallery, you will see any Videos in there. Android doesn't come with a normal file browser for some reason.
Most of us use Astro file manager, which is free. You also would want to install OI File Manager if you want to add non-jpg attachments to emails.

Thank you Humpa. I found the videos there like you said. What if I download a word doc or pdf? Would that be as easy to find? I downloaded Astro File Manager. I will play around with it soon.
I also find it surprising that there is no file browser. Thanks again.
File Browser
You can also try ES File Explorer. It's a great file browser with the ability to browse your NAS and LAN Networks.
I have ES too. Along with what mrmomoman said, it also does ftp. And that LAN browser is handy for some people (and it does samba shares as well).

Yahoo mail attachment download problem

When I try to download a file, like a pps file I get a file called mailatt.bin instead. It's about the same size as the original file, but I can't figure out how to convert it or download the proper file name. Has anybody seen this? This is when using the yahoo mail app or the browser. I was able to do this on my tp2 easy.

Now I have to send all my emails to Gmail and download from there.

saving attachment

i use the native email client and i got an .mov file as attachment and it lets me save it but where is it saved? i can't find it anywhere.
i downloaded a file manager and was able to find it. any way to designate a default folder?
I think it automatically puts in designated folder.
Use Astro or X-plore. The best ones I think.
Email attachments are saved in the root directory of you SD card. However you cannot change the default destination folder...
