I have a few questions about the honey comb.
Does it have swype?
How many applications are ready to be used on it?
Also about xoom..
Can we connect an external keyboard to it with bluetooth or usb port?
How is the overall experience?
Can it replace a laptop?
Thanks~

1. Not yet
2. Less than 50 I would guess optimized for Honeycomb. It just released a week ago so we will see many more at time goes on. Many of the existing phone apps work.
3. Yes. Motorola sells a BT one for Xoom. Check their accessories page.
4. I love it and can't keep it out of my hands.
5. Depends on what you plan to do with it. The browsing and email experience are fantastic.
Is it easy to type on it? like written chat on for instance gtalk?
so a lot of the phone apps r working on honeycomb?
Idk why I had heard otherwise!
I have another question. Does the tablet android have multi-tasking?
For instance, can you video chat and minimize it browse facebook alongside?
This is not possible on android phones and is important in my decision of getting xoom.
Response will be appreciated~!
Thank you
Please watch one video on honeycomb or read one review...it will give a lot more answers and it will be a lot quicker than asking really easy to lookup questions over and over.

jeee.... ur soooo helpful.. thanks a loooootttt buddy
btw why do we have forums for everything again?
so we help each other out?
ohh no we aren't sarcastic to people in the real world.. we need virtual reality for that too
I don't know about you, but when I hear about a product my first thought is not to rush to a forum to have people tell me about it.
I don't have any issue helping anyone out, but you need to do a tiny amount of work yourself before deciding to post three posts full if questions...it's just a couretsy to others.

And I wanted to know from a user..who is actually experiencing xoom hands on.
And please stop writing on my thread now!
PeAcE!
While I agree the OP should read a review or two, I think he would have walked away with basically the same questions. I haven't read a review that talked about Swype or specific number of applications. Besides, he wants "real world" reviews not some engadget or phonearena crap (nothing against the websites as I read them everyday, but their reviews are a waste of time, esp the XXX vs YYY ones, but that's a whole other thread).
@OP
1. The Xoom can not currently use Swype, but you can get SlideIt. I use it, it's not as good as Swype, but will last me until Swype releases a version for the Xoom.
2. There are not that many apps for it. Keith is correct (<50). Most phone apps do work though.
3. Moto sells a bluetooth keyboard, but you bring up a good point, I dont know if a USB one would work with a converter. Maybe I'll have to give it a try.
4. I love the overall experience. Yes, it's a little glitchy and there aren't many apps, but it does everything I want it to and then some.
5. I agree with Keith here as well...it depends. However, I will say that I attended a board meeting last night for my building. I am secretary and usually take notes with my netbook. I did last night with my Xoom and it was great. I also have a "real" laptop, and I don't think it would ever replace that, but I think it could replace my netbook.
My $.02, go to costco and buy it. It's definitely worth trying out for 90 days.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! You have been a great help..
And I did go through some reviews and videos on youtube beforehand for honeycomb, some for xoom and g slate.
Just one last question that I think you didn't see, was about the video chatting and multi-tasking?

confirmed. you can switch apps while using video chat. I didn't specifically open facebook, but i did use CNN, market and the browser. it does, however, turn off your camera, so it's no longer a video chat (the other party sees a black screen). you can continue to talk. when you come back to the chat, it does automatically turn your camera back on.
hope this helps!

You need to install both of the following apps.
I know there are a lot of video apps out there that work for the transformer (fring, google talk, etc.). But the problem is not everybody has a honeycomb tablet. My relatives have everything from a viewsonic gtab to galaxy tab to the ipad2. Right now, the only thing that would allow all of these devices to video conference with one another is the yahoo video. Everything else works fine with yahoo video chat except for the damn transformer. I can't seem to figure out a way to switch to the front camera.
Anyway, the following 2 apps you need to install. They will work in all 2.2, 2.3, and 3.0 androids.
thanks a lot for this.

Woot, thanks for the links. Im downloading these right now.
Not sure where you got those apk files, but I want to thank you for sharing this.
I was very certain that yahoo messenger is available and should work in Transformer before I got mine, as I have been using it in my Android phone and love it so much.
Then I got my Transformer and what? Yahoo Messenger was not available in the Market?
Hopefully they will come out with a better one that works/optimized for the Honeycomb!
Shoot yahoo an email and tell them to incorporate the proper cam switching api.
Come on, guys, I know there are other video apps that work for the transformer, but do you honestly expect all your relatives to have a transformer? The yahoo messenger video is the only one that allows all tablets to talk with each other, including the ipad 2. Until skype comes along with an android video upgrade, this is the only multi-platform video chat program. Are you guys really going to let this slip?
Please help me figure out how to make this thing work for front camera on the transformer.

This isn't true, both can use fring (though it transmits your video upside down). As well, there is an iPad/iPhone/iOS/Android app called VTok, that will let you talk to other Android/iOS users via Google Talk Video Chat. I'm sure there are other options as well, but those are the best options off the top of my head

Um, no. These apps don't work in non-android 3.0. Some of us still use froyo and ginger.
Again, not everyone has a honeycomb tablet. And I'm thinking of video chatting with people with phones, not just tablet owners.
Again, you can't expect everyone to buy a honeycomb tablet.
Actually, VTok works with the following phones, according to their Android Market page (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.skymobius.vtok):
This is an initial beta release of the app with limited device support. Front facing cameras on the following devices are supported:
HTC Evo 4G
Google Nexus S
Google Nexus One
All devices using Android OS 2.3.x
Looks like phones to me. fring also supports phones, though as I mentioned, it will transmit your video upside down to your friends

Unless someone hacks up the .apk, Yahoo has to change how the application sees the hardware on the device. I was being entirely serious about sending an email to yahoo so they can update it btw.
Tango seems to work also across iOS/Android platforms, except i think i needed to hold my Transformer upside down so it may not be detecting camera orientation when chatting with an iPad2 at the other end so not sure where the issue is, will need to test some more.

Sounds like the same thing as fring. I don't think it's a problem with the other end not detecting the orientation, I think these apps are simply not sending the video correctly as others are perfectly fine, but I could be wrong. Xoom users were also reporting the same thing with the upside down video with fring, it seems like an issue with fring/Tango not being ready for Honeycomb/it's APIs

The reason I provided alternative options is that it is highly unlikely that we'll have any workaround without any intervention from Yahoo itself. As well, I imagine most people would probably prefer to use Google Talk, if they realized it was possible. But, if you prefer I will keep my suggestions to myself...
Here's a solution that will work, two mirrors.

Not gonna happen, though. These companies don't care what their customers think. The back facing camera has been an issue for a year now. If you do a search online, you will see that there are thousands of people have been complaining for the last year, and yahoo has done absolutely zip to fix the issue.
Since when did any of these companies respond to their customers' needs?

I value your suggestions. I really do. But google talk doesn't work with a lot of devices out there. And it certainly doesn't work with anything less than a 3.0... the video part I mean.
Again, you can't expect everyone to be using a 3.0 tablet. Yahoo is the only thing right now that seems to work with everything. If it weren't for the back-facing camera issue...
Mine came in today, Im debating on returning it before even opening. I started doing research and it seems the Android for tablets is still not up to par with the competition. I was an early adopter for Android (had the G1) but im have second thoughts about being the guinea pig for the tablets.
Anyone have the same feeling and decided to keep it? I may just try it out and return it but I need to see what Amazon return policy (restocking fee, etc)
I'm loving mine. I rarely use my laptop now. Overall its stable, occasioanlly the stock launcher and browser will fc but not enough to be an issue.
Now "the competition" may have more apps specifically for tablets, more are showing up for honeycomb.
Give us some idea of what you plan on using it for/ what you plan to get out of it and might be able to directly respond to your concerns.

Ive been waiting on a good Android tablet to come out for awhile now. I almost jumped on the Nook Color because of the IPS screen, but I wanted a bigger screen.
I plan on using it for
1.) Browsing the web
2.) Watching Youtube videos
3.) Watching Netflix
4.) Hooking up to HDTV to watch MKV and XVID files
5.) Playing the occasional game
6.) Reading Comics
Now, #3 has me concerned because Ive read that Netflix doesn't work on Honeycomb. Has this been hacked yet? #4 has me concerned because of codec support and the fact this tablet may not be powerful enough for certain files formats. Anyone have experience with this? I have a MacBook Pro that I use maybe once a month, if that, mainly because I use my desktop most of the time.
Return it and stop crying into your milk.
I love mine and have also used Android since the G1. Considering how far Android has come since then, I have all the more confidence that Honeycomb will be much improved over the coming months.

not trying to come off as a ****, but maybe you need to open the thing and be your own judge. You decided to use your own credit card, pick your own vendor, now open it, play with it, and then decide.
Its only a tablet.. Not a baby. No remorse if you give it back.
I think a lot of these threads are popping up from posters who are looking for someone to make up their mind about this unit, when it should be themselves who choose..
my 2 cents.
Any experience with Asus and updates? Will the Transformer get Ice Cream Sandwich? I guess only time will tell...
If you use it you'll love it. But yes, pretty useless post, do you really need a bunch of anonymous folks telling you what to do?

1) Has been bad for me on 3.1. There is no single browser in my experience, which supports flash and doesn't lag.
2) Excellent for me in the app
3) Doesn't work. Being skeptical, I want to think nothing might work out soon.
4) mkv's are not supported properly, as per the Xoom's video playback thread. As suggested in other threads, Tegra 2 is not a platform you want to have, for video playback.
5) Games are very good on this thing.
6) I read a couple of books. The experience is very good.
BTW, not to be disrespectful, its ridiculous to have a gadget just beside you, and contemplate returning it, based on someone else's subjective experience, without you trying it.

Thanks for the post. I sort of jumped on ordering this without fully researching what it was capable of doing. I figure if my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant can play back the video files I have, why not a "more powerful" tablet. If Netflix and HDMI output of HD doesnt work or is poor, then thats a show stopper for me. Tablets are media consumption devices.
Why did I order it? Because I was tempted at the time and they are hard to come buy so I ordered it. This was before 3.1, which I thought would fix a lot of these issues.

I really hate that we have to jump through hoops to have video chat on an Iconia. You see, it's really a selling point to have a front facing camera on a tablet. Automatically you would assume that since it has a front facing camera, it would have some video chat suite included..

Tango doesn't work that well... Personally I tested it and it has a lot of audio problems. Anyway that's not the majoir problem with it. Tango is not a pc platform. I want be able to talk to anybody not just to the ones having a smartphone or a tablet. That's why Skype is superior, cause it works on every platform, and that's why it would be great having video support. It's all theoretical of course, cause, due to the fact our a500 mic is the worst mic ever built, to talk to somebody is impossible for the ones not living in the middle of a desert... To use voice I have to yell so loud that I could wake up ppl living 2 miles from my house.

Well, actually, yes. Skype is not very well supported on most mobile devices, as it is more of a PC app.
In my opinion, the best multi-platform thing going is Google Talk. It works on all of my current devices -- phone, tablet, desktop and notebook PCs. Anyone that I know who won't switch to Google Talk will only get to talk with me when I'm in front of my PC, and since I got the A500, the time spent in front of my PC is lessening every day.
If Skype doesn't quickly start improving support for mobile devices, it's only a matter of time before it starts quickly losing popularity.

I too wish Skype would just add video chat capabilities for all devices. It can't be THAT hard. I've got plenty of friends who use Skype, but I have absolutely NONE that use Google Talk and again, none of my friends' friends use it either so it wouldn't be possible to start converting them to Google Talk.
The simple fact is that Skype is way, WAY more popular than Google Talk.

When I got my tablet, no one used Google talk for VC, but all I had to do was ask, n it was easy cuz if you have a gmail account, which almost everyone does, either by choice or by Droid, you can chat. You don't need another account, another program, anything! And for the (very!) Few I come across that 1) want to VC with me, 2) have a Skype, 3) don't have a Droid, and 4) somehow missed the gmail revolution, I convert them. They get to talk to me, AND get better email. Win-win. N seriously, how often do you come across someone that fullfills all of those criteria? Cuz if they are missing any of those 4, you're set

Tango (Android/iPoop) - I'm going to assume this is the most popular. Video quality seems to be pretty good. I do have some occasional feedback issues with audio, but that comes and goes. The latest version of Tango FC'd everytime I opened it, but luckily for me, I had the version right before the update backed up, so I'm still in business.
Fring (Android/iPoop) - This was the first app I used for video calls. It did the job. I haven't used it in a while, and I know they've improved on it. I switched to Tango because everyone I knew was using it.
Qik (Android/iPoop) - I've never used Qik. At first it didn't support iPoop, and that was the only people I had to talk to via video call. Friends i've spoken with that use it don't seem to prefer it over any of the other solutions, so I haven't really had the urge to try it myself.
Yahoo Messenger (Android/iPoop/PC) - I've had mixed results with Yahoo. It seems to work pretty well for the most part, and is useful when chatting phone to PC as it's simple and alot of people already have a yahoo ID. The only issue I had with it was the video was always tilted sideways no matter which way I held my phone...
Google Talk (Android/PC) - I went down this road when I tried the leaked Gingerbread ROM. I had high hopes, but this was pretty much unuseable for me. I was able to connect, but video was too choppy at best. I'm positive this will improve in the future, but as of today, I don't recommend it.
ooVoo (Android/iPoop/PC) - This is an interesting app. It allows conference calling, so you can actually carry on video calls simultaneously with more than one user. I used this shortly and tested it for a phone to PC call and it seemed to be pretty decent. I'd have to give it a little more time and testing, but my first impression was that it did the job pretty well.
Skype (Android/iPoop/PC) - I know this one is new. I think there's a thread if you want to try to get this to work on your phone. Haven't tried it... can't really speak on it. I would check out the thread if you're interested. I'm sure there's feedback there.
As with everything on this community, YMMV. And keep in mind, all of my opinions are based on using the app with a wi-fi connection, so if you're going with 3g or 4g, you'll just have to test what's out there and see what gives you the best quality call. I hope this helps at least a little bit.
If nothing else, it'll at least give you some options to try.
I just used a modded skype for froyo over 4g and it worked beautifully except for the fact that I was sideways on my friends comp.
It was mad clear! He also said I was laggy a bit but I blame that on the 4g. I haven't tried wifi.
You can try it. When you go to the thread about skype 2.0 in the themes and app section, click the link that talks about the sgs2 or w/e and then there will be another link where the author says "TRY THIS ONE FOR FROYO"
That's the one ^_^

Well, Skype owns QIK so hopefully there will be some crossover pretty soon. Trouble is, even if it's the best program in the world it doesn't matter if your friends aren't using it. Skype is the one everyone else in the PC world seems to use, so now that it'll work on android, that's the one for me.

That was my exact outlook and why I went with skype lol
Before that I used tango which was excellent...but not everyone knew of it...but it was always fun to see the random people in my contact list who had it lol

I've been using Skype and even 3G, which all I have, was way better than QIK, Tango, or anything else that I have tried
Pulled yesterday the update from the network with the famous trick.
I have been plying around since then and wanna share my thoughts.
Gmail push mail is working but with a huge dealy comparing it with android or iOs mail delivering. Slow
Multitasking is working only with MS app, not third party. Maybe the apps are not upadated yet but... it sucks at the moment
Social network integration is good with facebook but very complicated to use, not intuitive. Twitter is not supported and the twitter app just plain sucks... no background tweet pull neither push. A mess
Live tiles are nice but daily briefing stays static
Do not know about battery usage
Bing music search is nice but it would be nicer with the possibility of downloading songs directly
I like marketplace, fewr apps than competitor but overall good quality
IT MISS A FAST DIAL OPTION... this is an epic fail... there is no smart dialing too... so calling someone who is not in the start screen takes like 6 or 7 click. fail
If this update eas released one year ago it would be good and efficent... comparing my mango omnia7 with my sammy sgs2 is like stealing sweets to a kid...
Poor Nokia... your N9 is far better that this fruit salad...

No mango just sucks. I really don't want to see several "messages" to multitask between in the multitask screen, some is even from the same sender. How is having two "apps" to switch too Witch is identical? And when your in marketplace, going deeper into "related" and I want to search..where is the button? I have to hit back a zillion times before it appears? Oh no wait I have a actual button on my phone for that..lets press that..BING wtf? They messed up big time, can't even get my native language to the display language.

You see the points i lifted as positive? did i somehow misunderstand those "features" ? In that case im glad if you could correct me so i can use my phone like it was suppose to

not sure about whether there is a delay in gmail, tried that and i do not notice any delay in receiving mail/sending mail via gmail.
what do you mean by third party app? can give some example so that i can try it myself? i take Whatsapp as an example, i have no issue running this app (multi-tasking), games, or whatsoever.
regarding FB, i think its individual experience. some may find it complicated / not user friendly some may find it very nice. i personally find it OK, not the best neither very good. never try twitter, hence no comment on this.
whether all tiles are "live" or not i think it doesn't really matter, of course if all tiles are "live" that would be good to have. i find battery usage on Mango is damn good, way better than iPhone or most of the android devices.
agreed with you that without smart dialing is an epic failure. i believe everybody is complaining about this and hope that it will be addressed in next release (Tango)
let's not "conclude" that Mango is a "failure" release, knowing that there are a lot of so call fundamental features supposed to be in but it weren't. Give microsoft a chance and see what they have in Tango or Apollo.
I fast dial just pressing windows button and saying "call name of person" in italian of course
using mango for 1 day is not enough to write a review from my point of view

Enough to get frustrated , it shouldn't do that. Those feelings should come after a long time when you discovered them. Not get frustrated the moment you want to do something. That speech feature isn't working in my language either . Neither is bing features.
Can someone please explain the multitasking behaivor? I really don't get it

I think you should really stop trolling in this 3d.
You are happy with mango? good for you.
You do not find annoying multitasking between single messages? Good for you.
You like searching for the search button, again good for you.
Are you a microsoft employee? If not, why you feel so frustrated with someone givin his opinions?
I can see you are a newbie on XDA and maybe you do not know that we usually review the software update and even the phones. Do you have any problem with it? Just change topic. And please stop saying that us, italians, have solutions for all the problems, it is just childish.
you didn't understand how to use the phone, you are the original poster so you are the trouble maker and you are more newbie than me, so shut up

Gmail push mail now works perfectly.

Twitter app, facebook app. rai.tv app do not multitask. Maybe they will, but now they do not.

You are right. De gustibus. I personally do not like it. It uses a ton of bandwith every time you open contacts app.
whether all tiles are "live" or not i think it doesn't really matter, of course if all tiles are "live" that would be good to have. i find battery usage on Mango is damn good, way better than iPhone or most of the android devices.
Live tiles that are not live is an epic fail.
Battery life is depends too much on user behavior for me to judge it I just says that on android you can UV etc etc to get max battery life.
agreed with you that without smart dialing is an epic failure. i believe everybody is complaining about this and hope that it will be addressed in next release (Tango)
I do not think that WP7 will still be on the market when Tango will be released. That is just my sensation.

Maybe you should learn basic education. And stop acting like a little n00b. I posted my personal review as anybody is free to do. You didn't like it, all right. But please let other ppl express their minds without the "you didn't understand how to use your phone" or "go play with super mario". That is so stupid. Even for you.
Hope to not hear anything more from you.

First off, stop telling me what to do.second, I bought omnia 7 because I was unhappy with my galaxy s2. If the case is that we are just noobs that doesn't know how to use the phone, why can't you enlighten us? I would be thrilled if you could make me enjoy my phone. Either that or shut your mouth and let other people have a different opinion.
