It's a trackpad
And it's impossible to change the color, because it's just a white LED.

Is there a way to assign a certain color/pattern to a particular event?
Right now, I have no idea what the lights are indicating.
Anyone else have a better experience with this feature?
Also, I can't even see them cuz they are on the side! Can they get bright?
I believe there is, though I can't help you since I haven't got mine yet
I remember seeing a review where the guy was changing the status LED's. You sure it's not in the manual?
Yeah they are pretty crap, along with the panels and the 'charging via usb from a pc'!
Though I really like my Xperia alot, I have to admit that LED notifications are not very helpful. It's not possible to change them - they are predefined for a couple of events without any possibility to be modified.
Changing the LED's should be possible with PhoneAlarm. But I am still waiting for my X1, it is on the way, but therefore I can't tell you exactly.
if you want too see what the leds dothen why haven't you gone into start>settings>system illumination
it shows you!
I'm sure this feature is modable, then I'm 'officially' request an app to enable customizing LED illumination
I find them useful ... especially when the battery is running low.
ideally I just want something that flashes clearly to say I have a new message or glows red to say the battery is low.
The location and brightness of the leds is dreadful.
Leds 'are' for the night and muted sounds mode

AGREED .
If you look in the registry at 'HKCU/Software/SonyEricsson/Illumination' there are some hex codes for different alert. Maybe someone with the right know how could whip up a little prog to modify them. Of course he woule first need to figure out what combination of hex number coraspondsto what colour the lights flash and how long they stay on
I would have to say the LED's are a bit pointless for most notifications u do have to look at the display. I would say the fish are more useful in letting u know the battery is dead then the LED's....
Not having a G1 yet, I'm wondering what notifications the LED works for?
ie does it flash red when a message has been received?
Thanks
Mike
There is a couple of apps that let you customize the way the LED is used.
For instance, DG Alert lets you change the vibration and change the color / frequency of the LED when you receive a SMS.
and missed call ... same thing, change the color and the way it flashes when you get a missed call.
there apps where you can change the color from several different options. pop sms is the one use. but think the default doesn't flash. but i could be wrong

it does, it's green and it flashes so slow it's barely noticeable.
I have mine set at 150 on / 125 off ... pretty hard to miss lol
DGalert is one of my must haves
Default
By Default the led flashes green with a new message and red if the battery is below 15%...it also shows charging level, green 90-100%, yellow is mid, red is 15% and below.

It flashes until you clear out the notification bar.
Yesterday I noticed a strange thing. The trackball of my nexus one is always lighted on in red color (sometimes in yellow). I don't know how to light off it, I installed the trackball notification program, I don't know if it depends on it. I tried to remove the program, but nothing changed. Is the only solution a deep reset? Thank you
Please don't create a new thread just for your probleme but use the trackball notification program thread if you want to have answer .
Thanks
Thread move.
Hi I know there is an excellent app out which allows a little red square to appear on the screen when you get a notification.
I miss a notification led but was thinking could the lights for the touch buttonds be used instead, I was thinking used the menu button for email/text messages and the back button for missed calls as they kind of look like the right sort of symbols anyway, plus the screen wont need to be turned on at all ( the screen does produce some light when it is only a black background)
I will be taking tomorrow off work to attempt to learn android and possible make a simple live wallpaper but if anyone can point me in the right direction I may look at doing this also
a simple search pops up the original topic

Hello,
Can I change color or keep the led on in night mode for the capacitive buttons ?
I'm on stock OOS.
u can't change the capacitive button color on the phone, even if u're rooted, since it's not a rgb light like the notification led.
maybe there's a mod or a custom rom that can enable ur capacitive button in the night mode, which mean u should root ur phone. but until today i never saw that there's a mod/rom like that. also i think it's not a big problem if the capacitive button is off, i always set my capacitive button to always off
