I was trying to install a .zip file onto my phone, the update/hack to have the fascinate lockscreen on my vibrant, and I was wondering how to install it. I downloaded the LockScreenChoice_UVJI6_clockwork.zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797431 and put it on my phone. Then I booted my phone in clockwor mod and hit install zip from sd card and I selected the zip, I then let it install, but it stayed on the installing screen for 12+ hours, I needed to use my phone so I finally just took out the battery. I know that it did something because my market stopped working and that was one of the complaints from the forum that I got the "hack" from...What did I do wrong and how do i get this .zip to work?
which rom did you have before you flashed the zip?
^ that question.
The ROM may not have supported another lockscreen mod, and this happened, if you confirm to us which ROM you are using then we can actually start helping you.

If you are not using a 2.1 based rom (like Axura, bionix, Loki, etc) then these may not compatible, these were done in October, We need to know the rom you have installed,
Besides, if you Are using a 2.2 custom rom, then these already are installed.
so i am guessing this is a vibrant, and not a fascinate as your topic implies?
Really sorry, yes it is for the vibrant. the rom I was using was just the stock rom, my firmware is 2.1-update1 though and my build is eclair.uvji6 and my baseband version is t959uvji6 also my kernel is 2.6.29 hope that helps
Which Zip did you use?
I used the ji6 zip, not the deodexed one, but the odexed one
I honestly did not know what went wrong, it looks like you did everything correctly. Do you mind using a custom rom? Because Bionix Final have the lock screen build it and to fix your phone, you probably have a reflash stock, either way you have to flash your phone.
If you don't mind moving to 2.2, you can even try the new Bionix-V, which also have the lock screens built in.
I would prefer to stay with a 2.1 rom, but I would not mind having a custom rom as long as it does not change the appearance too much, and I can get the lock screen. Where can I find this rom and a description of it?
p.s. is there any other way to make this work?
anyone with an australian handset had much luck installing android v2.3.3 on their device without the help of a 3rd party rom like darkys or ultibread?
ive managed to install (original-xxjvk) functioning on samsung galaxy s with only a custom kernel if anyone is interested in a howto. ive only had my galaxy for a few weeks and have only managed to get it running myself without forced closes etc.
i dunno if anyone is having the same amount of trouble as i am trying to hook into android v2.3.3 but i think ive mastered it for aussies lookin to use the latest android on australian networks no hassles. i just didn't want to post a howto for something everyone has already worked out lookin like a fool. heh.
any replies appreciated.
I've been running stock JVK for about a month now, and Stock JVB since Saturday, Virginmobile (phone from Optus). No issues here.
Stock jvk with fugu mod, rooted and voodoo 7 sound with camera mods. I turned Hspda off today and since 7am till now 5pm still have 78%(and I use it fairly heavy). Runs well only thing I want next is android lockscreen and I'm happy.
On Virgin.

It took me a good 7 hours, haha all night trying to get GB on mah phone... had all sorts of problems as well.
Eventually, I installed I9000XWJVH, and it seems to be going good.
^^^
Just in time to flash 2.3.4 this evening
Downloading it right now.
Just worried about me having a non-stock kernel... using CWM (I think) with CWM Recovery... (CF-Root-XW_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS)
Are you flashing with Odin?
It wouldn't be a bad idea to flash the stock firmware first to get the updated bootloaders.
Yeah, I am using Odin.
flash stock jvh again?
Nope...
If you have your filesystem converted to ext4, just convert back to rfs.
If you really want to be sure of a clean flash, flash a 3 file firmware with a 512 pit and re-partition.
ok, well, I have no idea if I have ext4 or not... I don't remember ever seeing or doing anything with that, so, I am assuming I am still on rfs.
I have 3 files and a pit for the JVP. Do I just use those and flash with odin + repartition and that's it?
Don't need to do anything before?
I had stock JVK running for quite a while with no problems but with all the tasty looking ROMs out there I gave up and went for Simply Honey. First was using Darkys which was nice but SH wins me over with its lush blue-look =)
Now running JVO with no issues. Can get 6-8hrs heavy usage out of my phone =)
I know this sounds really blonde, but...
I'm trying to find a way to upgrade my Android OS to 2.3 (from 2.1) - however my phone is locked to Telstra and I'm finding it difficult (with my limited knowledge of Android) to upgrade.
Can someone please help me out? I'd be so grateful!
I found the best Guide to be: [GUIDE] Flash/Install/Update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 to I9000: Detailed guide for n00bs
It isn't too difficult but do read, re-read & go through the steps a few times before committing any changes.
Be prepared though... This flashing thing can get quite addictive as there seems like there is always another ROM that does just a little more than your current ROM & often just a little faster.
Good luck.
Oh - To keep all the grumpy forum members happy, do a quick search before asking a question such as this. You are not the first to ask this and there are many threads that have covered possible answers.
Just Updated to 2.3.3 Unbranded from Darky's Rom.
Had to Downgrade to 2.2 then to 2.3.3 as Odin just kept Failing.
I know there have been multiple threads already devoted to figuring out why EC09 is borking people's sd cards, but I'm going to try a different approach. Rather than just asking for regular comments about this, I'm going to try to encourage answers to follow a set format. Hopefully the answers in this thread will lead to a diagnosis of what's causing the trouble. I'm asking you to answer the following questions to the best of your ability (there's no right or wrong answer here, since I have absolutely no clue why this is happening:
1. Did your sd card go belly up yet?
2. If your sd card did get borked, how long were you running EC09 prior to that?
3. What ROM were you on before flashing EC09?
4. Did you disable voodoo lagfix before you flashed EC09?
5. Were you running stock EC09, Nameless, or TechnoROM (if TechnoROM, did you actually flash the full stock package first)?
6. Did you Odin the recovery listed in the OPs for Nameless and TechnoROM prior to installing either of them (if you flashed one of these ROMs over stock)?
7. What apps did you have installed at the time?
8. Do you remember which apps you had actively running at the time your card borked?
9. Was your sd card almost full when you first flashed EC09?
10. Did it happen after you turned your phone off (when you were powering it back up), or while your phone was still running?
The more answers we get to these questions, the closer we come to finding the problem and possibly a solution!
More refinements to follow, including a poll.

Correct ... this only applies to those who flashed the whole ROM.

Apparently, both sbrissen and Navenedrob feel they have fixed the sd card bug in EC09 and are now testing to see if the fixes work. The upcoming Ultimate Ginger Bang ROM will include this/these fix(es) if they are found to be effective. In the meantime, your answers in the poll in the OP will still be helpful and much appreciated.

A test build for TSM's upcoming EC09 GB-based ROM is now available on irc (#teamsbrissenmod). Known issues include the following: if there is an sd card fix, it would be in the rfs kernel version of the ROM. It is unclear whether the bug has been fixed as of 7/5/11, so your help in the poll is still needed!

im on an earlier test version of Gingerbang with tsm parts and used a kerenl given to me by sbrissen and i have been on this for over a week now with no issues at all!!!
i went straight from comm rom 2.0 to the rom from sbrissen without using odin and only using heimdall do flash the modem, and kernel (kernel provided by sbrissen)
when i first went to ec09 i used the odin flash and 2 days later, dead class 2 sdcard...using a class 4 now with no issues
hope this helps in some way!
have you been able to recover the sd card or is it junk

Was sbrissen's kernel stock rfs? How fast does your phone perform?
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
I think my SD card just crapped out...
I had read that people that only flashed the modem weren't having issues, so that's just what i did.
Came from CommRom 2.0 straight to CM7 test build 6, had it on ED01 for a day or so and i decided to go back to Evil Fascination, and running EC01 modem for a day on that.
Then i decided to go back to CM7 test build 7, but decided to flash EC09 modem. Now it's been about 2 days, my phone was fine until about 15 mins ago when it just reboot itself and now it says damaged SD card.
Damn... i should've went back to EF last night like i wanted
I've been running the test build (rfs) for a few days now and my SD card just got wiped today. But it's weird cause it didn't wipe it entirely. The .zip files I've downloaded are still on the root of the card but it erased the download folders and such.

Hi guys,
Ok, here is the deal, a few months ago I bought a SGS GT-I9000T and via Kies updated it to Froyo, all was great, then updated to Gingerbread (not rooted or anything fancy), and everything went down the hill from there, force close,,random shutdown, drained battery ,.....
anyway, I replaced the phone and the new I got, was already on froyo, so I kept it like that. The phone has been working great, even the gps works well (was not working on the first on too well). It has been 4 months. The problem is,now I am starting to see apps that require gingerbread so I am tempted to do the update, but only if I can revert if things go south.
And to revert I will need to flash the original firmware. I looked on samfirmware and it is not there, so I was thinking the best way might just be to get it from the phone directly.
So how can I get the firmware directly from my phone so that I can flash the file back to Froyo if I get the same problem with Gingerbread.
Anyway, my Froyo version is :
FROYO.UBJP9
Firmeware 2.2.1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Any help would be nice.
Yeah IDK why that particular FW isn't on samfirmware either since many keep looking for it.
You could always do a Nandroid Backup. That makes a complete image of your phone that you can go back to.
I don't have a link handy, but there are a bunch of Nandroid tutorials out there to Google...

Thanks a lot. But I am not rooted. I would not mind rooting, but I have the same problem, a lot of the guide that I found ask for specific files for a specific firmware and unfortunately I cannot find mine.
Is there any way to back up without root?
OK, a long time ago, I did a manual update on my EPIC 4g (sprint). I am thinking that is why I am unable to download the update through the setting tab a week after the update came out. I know everyone has it now. I have no idea what update I did on my phone last year... but I havnt been able to get firmware updates from sprint since them. I'd kinda like to have this one.
Does anyone know of a link that has this update, I can load to my SD card and execute on the phone? I just want to be able to reboot to the new ROM, I dont want to have to hook up to a PC and load it that way. I need a rookie, easy way to do this.
Thanks!!!
You most likely have either rooted or removed at least 1 pre-installed application. That would cause the EL30 update not to install. You can find the .zip file in both the General and Development forums.
If you have rooted or removed any pre-installed apps, then the stock .zip file won't install for you. You would need to make sure you're on a custom kernel for your current build (most likely EC05 or EI22), get CWM 5 installed and then install one of the near stock roms in the Dev forum.
Yea, it was so long ago, I dont know if it is rooted or not? I have been away from this stuff for quite a while and have completely lost touch. CW5? is that an app that I can install directly from the SD card? Also, does the dev forum have ROM's that I can install from SD as well? - sorry for all the questions!

Yes... you would know it if you clicked on it. Just don't start a new thread there. Read, and it'll all make sense.

Go to your Settings > About Phone to see what your baseband, kernel and OS build are.
Yes the dev forum has kernels and roms available for you to flash. Google search "QBKing77 youtube channel" to get how-to videos for doing everything.
Baseband = your modem version. This is completely independent of your kernel and OS and can be a different version from those two.
Kernel & OS build = these must match in build #. Example would be EC05, EI22 and EL30. Some custom kernel's do not include the build # on the About Phone screen, but stock would.
CWM = ClockworkMod Recovery. This is a custom recovery tool that allows you to flash custom roms, kernels, mods and themes.
Easiest way to see if you're rooted is to look for the application Superuser in your application list. If it's there, then you're most likely rooted.
is there a way to unroot this handset and allow the sprint update to come thru? If not, what is the name of a good (stock) gingerbread ROM? There are a ton of them over on the dev side and honestly I dont want to mess with he clockwork stuff. Im kinda pinched for time.
I did find the CWM5 zip - i assume i can run that directly from the SD card, then apply the new ROM.
no superuser... know that I think back, I dont think I did root it. But I dont know why else the carrier update wont work?
ok, I just looked @ the current version(s).
BASEBAND: d700.0.55.DK28
KERNAL:2.6.32.9
BUILD: FROYO.DK28
so, what is going to be the easiest way to get this to EL30?
I am almost done bothering you guys - I promise!
Odining the el30 stock package and flashing an ec05 modem and then flashing the ec05 to el30 delta
Ill offer to do it for you in a little over 15 minutes if you'd like via teamviewer

No the modem is what allows for reciveing signal
Usually the most updated modem allows for better signal
