I got the acceptance today... it's not an application that you can download... it's web based and runs in an applet type application with a jnlp installer. Personally, I think it might be ok for prototyping... but good luck making anything that is close to advanced with it. It would be easier just to write the code.

I wish I had the mind of a programmer! I want to be able to code and write apps so bad, but I'm more of a visual guy. I do 3d animation. Every time I try to learn programming my brain begins to melt.

Agreed! I realllly wanna learn code but it boggles me. This app inventor may not be too advanced, but it'd be fun to tinker with to make small personal apps. Still waiting for my invite lol :impatiently waiting for google to email back:

Yeah, I just got one yesterday. But as eatmold says you can't use a custom icon on the phone (though that may be possible to do, but the people who know guard the secret - google say its on the list, but knowing them that will be 2012!)
However it is possible to export and import code (not java, some special google stuff) - so people might be able to exchange and share information.

i am a medical student.........for us Google application inventor is a wish come true.............

Get folder organizer. Might be one word. It allows you to place a widget, with a custom icon, that launches either a folder, or an app. So you'll have a stock app in the app drawer, but at least it'll look nice on your desktop

Took about 3 to 4 weeks. I rather enjoy it. Going to school for computer science and its great for learning basics. Its block dropping but the blocks say the code so if you try its a great teacher. N1

I got mine. I live in Virginia.
It's pretty neat, but I've been having issues with VoiceToText not waiting until my TextToSpeech is finished running.
Like, I'm trying to create a voice driven menu for hands free use so I ask a question and then want it to pause for an answer... Instead it starts talking and the VoiceToText box comes up at the same time. Frustrating...

Darnit! It seems like you are all on the east coast... but so am i lol. I'm in CT, maybe ill see it soon!

yeah that seemed a bit uncalled for. i think affinity121 misinterpreted the "stolen" to mean you stole it off someone
some apps i've been recommending to people:
- setcpu
- tasker
- root explorer
- samba filesharing
- adfree
these aren't really DHD specific though, and 4 out of 5 require root and not everyone i've been recommending them to has rooted their phone

You've already tried the roms I would have recommended.
Take a look at my sig and maybe you can choose a few apps from those links.
For me it's mostly essentials like a decent keyboard, browser, screenshot app, barcode scanner, note taker (so you can paint/write on the screen), camera app, launcher, music player, YouTube, Rom Manager, any backup app, study app and stuff that makes your job or life easier in as few a clicks as possible.
Many of the best apps speak for themselves and are very popular. But there must be tons of great stuff that isn't well known yet..

PowerWifi, turns Wifi on when I put my phone on its stand (or just plug it in), saving data allowance, and also launches MyPhoneExplorer for me, so my phone is always connected to my PC when at home. (turns off wifi when I unplug)
Moboplayer, at least until VLC is out.
Plenty of others I could suggest, but those are the ones I really couldn't do without.

Swiftkey X - greatest predictive keyboard I've ever used, especially once it's had time to learn your style. Paid app (worth every penny), but there's a free version in the market that gives you full functionality for a month so there's no excuse not to at least give it a shot.
Don't know what else I'd class as 'essential'; Tweetdeck (twitter/facebook), Tapatalk and Vignette (amazing camera app) are probably my most-used and first-installed, but with the possible exception of Vignette I can't say I'd use them to show off the phone's potential. That's what the ROM's for
Edit: already been mentioned, but Tasker (once you've got your head round it) is great for showing off the kind of automation you can achieve. If you know anyone impressed by that sort of thing.

However, we still wanted to play it (and so did a lot of you based on all the comments) and spin that trouser sausage left and right in the most hilarious ways possible. There was only one problem - nobody had the APK. And even if they did, it was copy-protected, so no dice on off-Market installs.
Not a problem - the app's author promised us to sort it out and release the APK without any copy protection a few weeks later. As you may have guessed, "a few weeks later" happens to be today, so let me present to you - ****.
But seriously, make sure there are no sharp objects on the floor around you - we don't want anyone hurting themselves rolling around, do we?

Symantec has released information about a newly discovered threat known as “Android.Counterclank.” It is a variant of a previously discovered Trojan horse called “Android.Tonclank.”

I like your thought, which is exactly same as mine for years
But I believe that this is one main area where Google looses to Apple .

Not like before mate. Apple devices are also getting hit by malware. According to F-Secure about 58 new variants of Mac malware have popped up in the last year.

I saw the news. thought it might help few. all are talking about sexy. who will install. what about counter strike atleast in pc it sold 25 million units. obviously there are lot of fans who want to download the game. I personally was about to download it. but the comments said it is not good so didnt download

Because apple is not open source...they even don't know if they have viruses.
Android is open source and if coming some new virus we can always find some solution FAST.
This **** what those antivirus manufactures talking don't need take seriously always.
Its their job to make some commercial...even if they make those viruses itself..or they pay to someone to make viruses or make "panic"
Its clever commercial trick.
But anyway...viruses existing and if you don't know what your doing with your phone..then DON'T DO IT.

IMO, If you get anything like this. You deserve it! Almost just like on a PC. If your not smart enough to check your stuff before you put it on your phone, then stick to buying your apps. Don't open and launch things from emails you don't know about. Your not smart enough to know what sites are bad and how to control what your clicking through. By all means hurry and pirate an anti... app too please. Then I can charge you to fix it. XXX only make me money.

Oh yeah I forgot. LBE security guard. Amazing root permissions app. It allows you to revoke certain apps permissions. Like if you don't want angry birds access to your data and wifi you can do that. An added plus is with that you dont get any more stupid adds.

Superuser (with PIN) for SU rights
AdFree - to block most ads
Droid Wall - to totally block data & WiFI on an app by app basis
LBE Privacy Guard - to remove specific permission from apps that require data access
One of the easiest thing to do, is only get apps from trusted sources, which will drastically cut down on risks
Finally, think twice about installing an app with a low number of downloads.

I agree 100% with this. The UI is super simple, and you can see how much data each app is using. It opened my eyes the first few times I used it as there were apps using data that had no real reason to. It didn't make sense to me.
As UBER mentioned, you can also disable GPS for apps like Angry Birds Space. I love how when you install a new app, a notification shows up up top reminding you to set permissions for that app.
Very basic, easy to use, and most importantly, powerful.

Most likely, any Russian or Chinese market for cracked apps, as most of the infected apps come from these two regions.
Also, any hacker board for cracked apps has a higher than average chance of having an infected app
