My gallery worked fine when I had CM6 on my G2.
I have tried CM7 RC1, #7, and #32 or something like that and my gallery doesn't work for any of them.
By doesn't work I mean it fails to scan for media, and there are no photos in the gallery.
I have tried all the media scanners and rescanners on the Market, but they all stop scanning after 1 second, and does not do anything.
Also, when I browse for a picture via file manager and click on it, it takes forever to load, but when it does load, it first shows this weird wallpaper that is from the Cyanogen wallpaper pack for a brief half second then shows the picture i clicked on.
I don't know what's going on. This has been driving me INSANE. All I want to do is just to be able to set my wallpapers. I don't know how to do it without gallery.
Any help at all?
Thanks!
EDIT: "Are you certain that you don't have a file named ".nomedia" (the "." at the start makes it a HIDDEN file) in the directories with the media to scan?"
Yes I am certain I don't have that .nomedia in the directories of my photos.
EDIT EDIT: There was a .nomedia in the root directory of my sdcard so that is why it won't scan ANY folders. Thanks!

mate, I use 3D Gallery instead of the stock. not only will it scan and place in folders, it'll also pull your online Picasa pics. i used it on my stock Froyo (even though froyo uses a different version.. I found 3d gallery was actually the stock Eclair gallery) and I use it now on my CM7 Desire nightly (bravo11). works like a charm.
I use the one that came with ROM. Works great.

The one that came with the wrong doesn't work. And the 3D gallery doesn't work either. It says There are no items in your collection.
Reflash the nightly build. what build are you on?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I reflashed like 4 different ones. right now i'm back to RC1.
Thats weird. Perhaps something didnt wipe right?
Try QuickPic in the market. I use it alot now.
I wipe dalvic cache and perform a factory reset via CWM 3.0 each time i flash.
Quickpic says pictures not found. Is your SDcard mounted? And that made me think. Could it be something wrong with my SDcard? I mean, I can access stuff in it via Root Explorer...

I know you're asking about Picasa sync issues, I don't know if they are saved on your sdcard but this may help:
Drop a .nomedia file in a folder and all media files become invisible to the gallery..
A .nomedia file is just an empty text file saved with no name and the extension .nomedia
You can make the file yourself, or just copy one of the many that are already on your card and paste the copy in whatever folder you want hidden from the gallery.
There was a bug last year that caused previously indexed media to be deleted if they were subsequently hidden. I'm pretty certain it's been fixed but you might want to test on a file you don't mind losing before you wipe out your entire porn collection
edit: I'm running CM7rc0 and it appears the bug has been fixed. It's an old bug, I would guess late versions of 2.2 are fixed also. I just tried this on some junk files, rebooted and they are still on my card but not in my gallery

I have this odd problem where I have to close the gallery them open it back up sometimes to get it to display images. Friend with a Vibrant said the same thing.

Oops sorry dupe post, tapatalk locked up.
I have a similar issue on mine, sometimes it takes a while for some images to appear in the gallery from the SD card.

This happens on a lot of phones.
What you need to do in order to fix this is, after you put new media into your sdcard (whether it's music, video, images, etc), go into the Dev Tools app and click on Media Scanner.
This will scan the sdcard for new media and add it in to the Gallery and Music apps for immediate use. Otherwise it usually takes a reboot or something.
Cheers,
Proxin
Hi - what is this dev tools app... ?
I find if I copy something from one picture folder to another they both show up; annoying though. I also had a problem with 'missing' pictures, but changing my SD card fixed that.
The Dev Tools app is available on CM ROMs only I think. You can also use different apps on the market to do the same thing (Rescan Media, SDrescan, ScanMedia, Tasker, etc.).
I've found that switching to a different gallery app has helped as well (had the same picture showing up multiple times problem that was mentioned). I've been using QuickPic for a while and have been happy with it so far, but there are a few out there you can try.
Yes, the Dev Tools app is available in CM ROMS, my bad - I assumed it was in all.
However, seeing as it's included in there, you can open up the CM update.zip and find the apk inside there.
But, there are also other media scanners out on the Market. They do the same job.
Cool. I tried clicking media scan for dev tools, but it doesn't even scan. I'm running the CM7 RC1 btw. I click media scan, and it says finished scanning /mnt/sdcard 1 second later... and my gallery is still glitchy as hell...
EDIT: I had 4 pictures in the gallery from the Zedge folder, and after I scanned it, my gallery became empty. Is this a known bug for CM7 RC1? Because if it is, and they still call it RC, it's terrible.
EDIT 2: I tried 4 media scanners and they both don't work. Do you have a particular media scanner in mind to recommend? They ALL finish scanning in less than a second. I tried rescan media, rescan media root, SDrescan...

It must be the RC then. I haven't experienced that on the stable 6.1.1 version...
I've gone through and sorted all my pictures into folders (family, friends, contacts, etc.) to streamline my gallery. When I open gallery, its still showing pics in multiple folders that are named the same. Upon further inspection, I've found that they are grouped in folders (in the gallery) by the way the file is named. Is there any way to fix this without having to rename every image file?

If you put them in folders, the 3d gallery should update after a reboot. Have you tried that?
Yes I have tried that. Also, I tried renaming some and the 3d gallery is still separating them for some reason, even though they're in the same folder on my SD card. I just don't get it.
Sent from my 2.0 Liberated DX using XDA
That's really interesting. Possibly try unistalling and reinstalling the app?
First things first: I like Sense, so don't start bashing it and saying "switch to CM."
Alright, now for the real problem:
I don't know if everyone else has this problem, or maybe its my 16GB memory card, but on any Gingerbread ROMs(or even some Froyo) nothing shows up, like in Ringtones it only shows stock ones, nothing from the folders on my SD card, same with Gallery, it only shows "All Photos", "All Videos", and "Downloads", where on Froyo it shows everything on my SD card. When I open Astro or OI File Manager I can see all the files though. Am I alone with this issue?
What rom are you using?
Right now, im using the stock froyo rom, rooted.
But ive experienced this issue with lots of ROMs, mostly gingerbread with the original sense style, and now with gingerbread mySense.
I've noticed this too.. use a 3rd Party app to add in ringtones.. the stay forever. You can find them on the Market.

Zedge is a good app. I like it.
You can also use Ringdroid. It'll actually add the ringtones to the native folder for easier pickings.
I've encounteredthe same problem. To get around it I created a media folder on my SD card. So on my SD card I have a folder named media and subfolders named ringtones and notifications were I drop my audios accordingly. I hope this helps

Yea, I get around it by using root explorer and putting the tones in system/media/etc. Just would rather have it working fine.

I don't move anything to the system/media folders. The ringtones become visible if you create a sdcard/media directory.
I've got that, but the phone won't see it

My apologies. I misunderstood you. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. This was the only workaround I've used and since it worked for me, I did not bother to look for any other alternatives.
Not sure exactly what did it, but I pulled everything off my memory card, formatted it, and put it all back(after sifting through a bunch of unneeded folders/files), and put them all back.
I also had flashed a gingerbread ROM in the middle of all this, so for all I know, this ROM just doesnt have that problem.. but all seems to be good now.
Anyone know whats going on? I guess this has been happening for about a week. All my old pictures are there, but when I reboot, any new pictures I took will just disappear from the phone
Im also on EC05 / Syndicate 1.2. Never had this issue before though
Ok I did a full wipe... and now it deleted ALL of my pics... Whats going on???
All the folders and other things remained intact, but all my pics from the DCIM folder are gone. Even other pics like icons saved in a download folder are gone.
Always backup your card fire this reason. I had to odin back to stock and then root and reload srf. All my pics stay now. Not sure what caused it. Thought it was because it is a new sd card.

By "full wipe" you don't mean "Factory data reset" under Settings -> Privacy do you?
As far as the original problem is concerned is the issue that the files were actually gone from the SD card or just that they didn't show up in Gallery and what not?
When I said full wipe I meant through CWM, so it shouldnt have wiped my pics out like that. I did do a backup thankfully though its a couple months old so I lost a bunch of things.
Its the same SD card Ive used since November or so. I guess I will format the SD card fresh and then copy over what I had saved.
This problem has returned for me with new pictures. I dunno.
Is everyone having this using a theme?
I think theres a broken framework.

I'll ask again... Are the files being removed from the SD card or just from Gallery?
No clue with SRF but "Media Storage" should be running (Settings > Manage Applications > Running Applications).
Clearing the data for this app will clear out Gallery/Music/Video/etc (just the displayed items, not the actual source files). The media scanner should run (scan) shortly after booting and display a notification.
Not sure how to manually fire off the media scanner but if the files still exist and simply don't show up for you then this would be my first troubleshooting step (searching Google for "android invoke media scanner" pointed towards some apps/methods).
Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't

Pop the card out and put it in a computer. See if the pics are on the card that way. It's possible they are on the card but whatever program you are using to look for them isn't finding them. for instance, if you are using Gallery and you have disabled media scanning then it will never know about new pictures.

It deleted them off the SD card permanently. I have no idea how it was able to do that. Every image no matter where it was saved on the SD card was wiped out.

I tried that after I couldnt save my new pictures several times as well as trying fix permisisons. Nothing worked. I finally did a wipe of everything in CWM and reloaded Syndicate 1.2. When it loaded up all my pictures were gone.
Yeah I started about this in Q&A a couple days ago.
It cant just be a coincidence that its happening to us all at the same time.
