RTL support - Nexus S General

Hello, do you think there would be a support for RTL language (e.g., Arabic) very soon? I don't want to root my NS device for this feature only?
I might be able to wait if there is a hint for such support is coming soon. Let's say 2.3.4!!
Sorry in case this question is somehow repeated

Hi,
I'm wondering if you can navigate to www.google.com.sa and take snapshot?
I want to know I9000 contains Arabic font or not.
BR
If Android does, this phone will
Android doesn't support Arabic but Samsung Spica does!
So I hope I9000 support Arabic before I order it
Tkanks for reply.

I took these screenshots with the stock browser on the N1 with unofficial FroYo.
Hope these help determine whether Froyo supports Arabic.
Anyway...hopefully the Samsung T959 gets announced soon and it has a front facing camera. Please.

Thanks for your screenshots, Froyo has Arabic fonts but lack of support for Arabic (Arabic is RTL language) in your screenshots words became LTR!
Maybe RTL languages will get official support in Android 3.0.
But some Android Phones like HTC Magic, Tattoo, Samsung Spica, Acer liquid, Motorola Milestone officially support Arabic, so I want to be sure that i9000 support Arabic before order it.
Thanks again for your help

In order to have connected characters in Arabic you have to flash either one of JPG/JPA roms..
Unfortunately, Android doesnt support Arabic natively (Which is stupid by Google.. its the #1 most requested feature of Android)..
But before I flash it this phone it have Arabic language perfectly , then Android support Arabic, also all samsung galaxy in Morocco have include support Arabic and in Midle East all samsung galaxy S is Full arabic.
But I know there some Plug'in for Arabic Language but i don't know where can I find it.

Go darky site arabic section
i think you will find what you looking for
SEARCH IN GOOGLE FOR
Darkys_v8_Hebrew_Support_V2
Yeah, this is the Development Section of XDA.
Because I don't want my users to create threads just about my ROM @XDA and spam the entire board, I created my own board.
And the ROM thread is way too huge to get an answer.
Please come to www.darkyrom.com/community and ask us there

You mean if this file is included, you get to read all Arabic /Hebrew stuff correctly?
Can this file be modified to include ALL the languages of the world?

[REQ] Porting for I9000JPJPM Rom to Vibrant

Hi All,
There is a new leaked I9000 2.2.1 rom (I9000JPJPM) which is said to be faster than most of the other I9000 ROMs and it has full Arabic language support.
This rom was leaked from one Samsung service centers and was deodexed and rooted by a developer in Ce4Arab (Galaxyer).
This rom seems to be very good solution to help Arabic users of Vibrant and I think that we should have one developer who will bring it to our Vibrants.
Also this rom might be faster than most of the other roms and good to be used as a base rom for other custom roms.
this is a link to the rom in I9000 forum

If you like, I can put you on the testers list.

Thanks alot
But Arabic support is not just for resources it needs to have many files replaced in the operating system in order to support RTL (right to left) languages and to support Arabic shaping.
So in order to have Arabic support we better use the same system files.
Why dont you try to use it as a base rom and see if it improves the performance then we will have a fast rom plus Arabic support

Is a 2.2.1. There is no difference between them in terms of performance
There is a patch for arabic support in the i9000 forums. So, you could pretty much flash any i9000 based ROM that has arabic translation and install that patch. That should give you arabic support.
EDIT: ramad has a collection of deodexed roms here
He will probably deodex it soon. Switch the kernel in the zip with a Vibrant one and it should work.

I know about the Arabic support patch and I am using it right now
The real problem in this patch is with Arabic shaping function which kills the cpu if you try to scroll in a page which contains Arabic.
You can feel this problem if you scroll because it will not be smooth when there is Arabic text.
I think Samsung official implementation will be much better plus many users who used this rom in their I9000 in CE4Arab forum say they get much better result in Quadrant compared with other 2.2.1 releases.

I was hoping you will mention about quadrant scores
Quadrant and linpack are useless benchmark applications due to the fact that they were not build for testing Hummingbird processors nor RFS.
SmartBench 2011 seems a bit more accurate. However, there is nothing better than real life experience that can tell you how fast/smooth is a ROM. And that, unfortunately, is not measurable...

I am using a custom I9000 right now and I am happy with the customizations but not quite happy with Arabic patch.
I want to try this rom but I don't want to lose the customizations and use a stock rom that is why I want someone to port and customize this rom
I was reading through the thread you linked, and it seems there is some confusion if it is an official firmware.

This is original firmware but it was not released yet by Samsung.
Some lucky guy at Ce4Arab forum sent his phone to service center and they flashed it for him.
Then he uploaded system folder for another forum member (Galaxyer) who Deodexed and rooted it and made it into Odin image.
That is why they are saying it is not official but this doesnt mean that it was not made originally by Samsung

It seems to be here or there on the opinions in the thread whether its official or not. If not publically released, can it be called official? Or should it be thought of as leaked? I think leaked, but thats just one man's opinion.
I deodexed it lastnight. Added haptic feedback. Failed on the services.jar though, whitehawkx is going to look at the method today.

You can make one but you might want working wifi, gps, haptic feedback and for it to not reboot at -79dBm... If that is the case then let me finish testing and the upload is already underway.

Haptic Feedback to home key.
Gigantanormous multi csc
Services.jar fixes.

Also this comes stock with the Quran, Prayer Times and Qibla direction!
I think this will be my driver for today just for a little change up.
It has indeed full Arabic support, some apps not translated though (google specific).
The languages are Arabic, Urdu, Persian, French, EN_US, EN_GB and Korean.
Full right to left support and there is no lag as the OP was stating that exists with the arabic patch. Good find for Arabic users

This may not be real helpful, but the keyboard that I use, Messagease, supports Arabic. www.exideas.com The forum may have a member who can help you.

I know that there are some alternatives (arabic keyboard, browser with arabic support, sms apk with arabic support, ...etc) but, isn't there any sotck Arabic ROM or Custom ROM with Arabic support? Developers should consider that.
Anyway, I appreciate your help.
Thanks
I could be wrong, but I think cyanogenmod supports quite a few languages, including Arabic.

[Q] Right to left language support

I'm new to this, so I apologize if this has been discussed before.
I am trying to get Hebrew support on my phone. Any existing hebrew and hebrew that I type comes out backwards. I'd like to avoid rooting/modding, or whatever since I'm scared of destroying the phone, unless of course there is no other way to do it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I have the same RTL problem. I live in Israel and I need Hebrew support. Stock 2.2 versions have Hebrew support so SMS messages are displayed correctly. New 2.3 stock ROMs lack this support. They have the fonts, but Hebrew is displayed left-to-right. Is there any way to add Hebrew support to 2.3 ROM? If not, which custom ROMs have good Hebrew support?
Hi,
I think i have a solution.
Download and explores apk Swiftkey X
Keyboard isn't the problem. The problem is how the text is displayed.
RtL support: FIXED
After scouring the internet with no viable solution, I decided to join the world of rooting and modding/Romming (?). I read as much as I could and was as careful as possible. The solution? I rooted my phone and installed ClockWorkMod and CyanogenMod7. It has Hebrew built in and can switch back and forth easily. Built in keyboard also has the option to change languages by sliding the spacebar. I will post step by step soon. It's been over a week and so far everything is working fine. I would suggest backing up your current ROM (after you install CWM but before CM7) just in case.
