There is a widget called Frame Me I'm currently using which is superb, can fling through pics in a folder, set it to auto rotate pictures within a folder and also comes with some great picture frame. I can't remember how I came to find this but I have to say I love it so thought I would share with you all here. It is in the Hero forums but works a treat on the G1, link below.

Enjoy
It was in the xda twitter/home page a long time ago. Thats how I found it. great app.

I've been searching, and have seen lots of threads about similar problems with the Evo and it's fairly low-color screen, but I was under the impression that the Droid X has a 24bit color screen so this shouldn't be an issue.
Anyway, I've got some wallpapers (cropped and resized for the Droix X from the originals at Ultralinx)
They look fantastic on the computer. They're the right dimensions. Tried saving as JPG and 24 bit PNG, but the outcome is the same. When I copy them to the phone and set them as wallpaper, the gradients don't look smooth; there is color banding all over the place.
I've got screenshots and originals up on the web, but can't link to them until my account is approved by a mod.
EDIT: Added attachments instead, but the forum super-compressing the images doesn't help their clarity at all.
Hey,
i've got the same problem.
That's not funny at all, I really don't know how to save it, that it looks like on my desktop pc!

Sorry to be off topic but I cant help but stare at your notification bar. What theme is it?
It's my own notificationbar.
Have to search the files first
It doesn't seem to be the screen. I dropped those images into my dropbox, and opened them in whatever viewer dropbox opened by default. The image was smooth as I zoomed in, until I zoomed in far enough to see a moire pattern. I also opened it in Astra's built in viewer; again there was no banding. However, when I set the image to be my wallpaper, I see the same banding you are seeing.
Bad news is, I don't know what the problem is; good news is it doesn't seem to be a screen limitation.
Thanks so far!
But what's the problem than?
I really have no idea :/
Ah ha! Google turned up this app: "Wallpaper Set and Save" (Sorry, can't post a link because I'm new, apparently. I attached an image of the QR code instead.)
It says it hasn't been updated for 2.x, but it worked fine on my droid x (running the stock rom with launcher pro.) Using it to set the exact same wallpaper, I now see no banding (although I did in the preview screen.) It's worth a try, although I'd still like to know what is causing this issue (since it obviously isn't a hardware issue.)
I attached a screen capture so you can see for yourself.
Edit: The forum's image compression adds some artifacts; it looks even smoother on my screen capture. Even here it's a big improvement over the others though!
Its probably the gallery app that is re-compressing the wallpaper and creating the bands
I am a noob to developing and was wondering if anyone can give me a good start at creating a Live Wallpaper.
In my head its quite simple.
i have a set of Pictures from a bootanimation.zip i use.
i want the screen to show the first image until i touch it. then i want it to cycle through 2 sets of images, finally replaying the 2nd set until touched again, then go back to the first image...
anyone think you can help me out with that?
thanks...
and in case anyone is wondering im trying to make a stargate live wallpaper, that activates and deactivates on touch.
I an on my phone so I will comment more later. But you should first check out the cube live wallpaper in the samples. Since it is a working example it so should be a good place to start. After looking through the example take a look at the official docs to see what everything is doing.

If this was done already than I apologize… I did make some effort to search the forum…. (little)
I tried many times to set custom wallpapers on my Tab... only to get frustrated with the Gallery Cropping Tool!
I tried many different wallpaper resolutions… some looked better than others.
The best results you get with abstract wallpapers since you probably do not care much if its crops things here and there…, but what if you want to center something in both portrait and landscape mode??
I decided to try a few things in Photoshop and was very happy with my results…..
(once again, If this was already done by someone in the past than I am sorry)
I created a Photoshop template that will help all in creating custom wallpapers.
The document has “crop areas” that match the Gallery Cropping Tool so that when trimmed you will get exactly what you placed in the “live areas” (with guides…etc.)
All is self-explanatory one you open it in Photoshop.
Do Not forget to save as a jpg
On the Tab,
Go to Gallery, choose the Wallpaper..... extend the cropping to maximum.
Attached is the PSD and a Sample Wallpaper.
I hope this helps..
Sample pics not showing, but sounds promising. I too have been frustrated by the stupid cropping of my wallpapers.
EDIT: Tried to download on my PC and says that zip is corrupted. Can you try a reup plz? Thanks

Have you tried multi-picture live wallpaper from the market?
Yes I did.
I wanted a different .....simpler approach to set custom wallpapers. (No need for extra apps on my Tab)
+ the template gives me more control

fixed and tested

Loops...noticed a problem...not a big deal....
When I made and tested the template I had wallpaper scrolling turned off and only one homescreen. Upon enabling all home screens (7) And enabling scrolling I found that while scrolling it over shoots into the gray area in both landscape and portrait mode. This can be easily fixed by extending images on the template....
I'll try to edit the template and make more guides when I get the chance.

All you need is 'Simple Image Wallpaper'! Seriously. I went though all of this garbage to get the wallpapers to fit correctly and everything was solved once I got:

I am glad that you were able to figure it out, and I think pretty much everybody went through the same process if not on the tab then on another Android device ( I know I did with my old Captivate ). But I hate that we have to do it like this to get the pic centered properly on the tab or need to download a new app to make it work properly.
Coming from a Samsung s5 I'm used to being able from the photo gallery to crop and draw on photos. Now with the standard photos app I don't see these functions. Am I missing something, or do I now need another app? Recommendations?

I don't draw on my pics, but have seen a few that allow this....Just search for gallery and read the features. I've tried about 25 different ones to find one I like and I always come back to QuickPic . Has several great editing tools......But I always have a 2nd (besides Google Photo's) with more editing options. This 2nd one changes all the time and I keep hoping I'll find an "all-in-one" gallery that will let me only keep one. Many people will recommend the CM gallery, I really like it but it has no option to "hide" a folder. So if you have 300 albums, each in their own folder, you can' t automatically hide them - You have to add some sort of "no media" tag to each folder (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Another one I like, is a new one that I thing has potential.... It's called: A+ Gallery Photos & Videos (by AtomicADD Team)
Another couple I liked were:
FOTO Gallery (by LADYBUG)
Gallery (by Flayvr Media, Ltd.)
Piktures was another one I used for a while, you might check it out too.
You can always delete them if you don't like them.
Thanks, I was hoping for a few suggestions rather than the try a whole bunch to see approach. I checked the play store and hoped to whittle it down to a few contenders.

So, I have just upgraded myself from G3 to this Beast phone (love it)
Native Galaxy Gallery App there is a Story Mode/ selection that puts together all the pictures you have then in a given day or location and adds background music & some effects but, in doing so it cuts the pictures so you end up with half the face or picture to see.
Are there any settings the I need to change to make the pictures show in full or is there any fix for this.
I tried searching the forums but found nothing. In case I was wrong please direct me to the correct post
I'm finding that I have the same results and can't find any settings to change the way it seems to zoom in on each photo. Really nice idea but poor execution...

No one else seems to have this issue or care for this feature
or they are too busy rooting/ unlocking the SD version of the phone
Can't say about others, but in my case: 1. easy enough to do it manually just the way I want it 2. it almost never works properly, besides cutting off the frame. Case in point, my phone created album called "at the beach", after we went to the beach. Well, most of the pictures in this album are not from anywhere near the beach and since I have location embedded in every picture and phone already correctly identified I was at the beach including particular field, not sure why it added pictures taken at home and many other locations. Bottom line: useless function personally I don't care about.
