Does anyone know how to raise the volume for ogg files, I would like linda to be louder on my phone and i have all the volumes set to high on my phone already. Thanks in advance
This used to work in 2.1 in Froyo I have not tested
You can increase this volume beyond maximum factory setting. When you change this, please change it slowly, meaning 1 increment at a time, you don't want to blow your speakers out. it seems if you do a reboot of your phone, the settings revert back to factory for this volume fix...working to try to figure out a way to lock in the new volume settings.
Okay, lets begin. Go to your dial pad. Dial in *#*#197328640#*#*
Next, tap your finger onto the following, in the following order:
[5] Audio
[1] Handset
[1] Volume
[1] SRS Speech RX Volume
next notice the following defaults that pop up.
[0]0_lvl:63
[1]1_lvl:68
[2]2_lvl:73
[3]3_lvl:78
[4]4_lvl:83
[5]5_lvl:88
This basically means, that your volume up and down keys have 5 clicks, starting from the lowest setting, and click your volume up 5 times, takes you through the sequence of volumes listed above. You can change each click to be a new volume setting. For me 1-4 are fine, I just wanted max volume, which is click number 5, to be something higher. The phone does not let you to put in half increments, meaning 88.5 is not possible. So you have to use increments of 1. Please please do this carefully, dont suddenly jump to 95, you could blow out your speaker possibly. So I tried just 1 increment above 88, went to 89, and perfect, much louder now! okay so this is how you do it:
Once you get the list above, do the following:
Click your finger on [5]5_lvl:88
Next, a screen pops up asking for input. On the bottom of your phone, tap the menu button, this is the button next to the little home button.
Next tap "key input"
Next tap 1 increment at a time, lets start off with 89 so where it says enter value, tap this, your keyboard pops up, type in 89
Next Tap your menu button again
Next Tap "end"
you are now finished, make a phone call and see how 89 works for you, when your volume is set to max
Remember this volume adjustment seems to reset after you reboot the phone. Some people online are saying you can also make the volume higher by playing with the hearing aid settings, I personally haven't tried this yet.
Good luck hope it helps

I think I remember reading these settings get wiped after reboot. And it looks like he was asking something else.
I would probably use audacity to edit the files. Very easy to use.

Your best bet is to get an audio file editor, grab Linda off your phone and give her a 10 db gain, then put her back. If this gets you close but you still want to fiddle, edit the file again and give it either a 3 db or -3db gain.
This should be a permanent fix.

Hey everyone,
My XDA doesn't ring anymore when someone rings me.
If I go into phone options, I can change the ring tone, and they work in there using the play button. They are very low though, even when I put the phone's volume on max.
Then I go back to the home screen, try to ring my phone and it doesn't ring. The vibrate function still works and it still makes a noise when I get a text. Just nothing when it rings.
Any ideas? Cheers.
May be You already did it, but if your phone switched to "vibrate only"

Nope, but thanks anyway mate.
Anyone? It's doing my nut in now!
OK, obvious things to try / questions etc:
Have you tried to soft reset?
Do you have a "profile changer" installed (pocket zen phone for example)
Is the ringtone selected on (tick in the box) (dumb question i know, but...)
Are you using a default tone? or one you have added youself?
If its a custom one, edit on PC and increase the amplitude (make it louder) - try again - any better?
Have you one anything / installed anything etc which caused this problem? if so what
Is the phone & master volume at max? if not try with them both up all the way

Really good trouleshooting procedure!

1. - Yes
2. - No
3. - Yes
4. - Tried both and tried making my custom one louder
5. - No
6. - Right, this is where we made some progress. I usually have my master volume set on the level above nothing (i.e. very low) and my phone setting on the lowest one. I assumed that this was the in-call volume. But I put it up a notch and the ringing was back. Yeah! So I assume it's the whole phone functions' volume and not just the in-call volume. I can see the logic but I'm not completely sold.
Anyway, you are a legend and I thank you very much.

IIRC to adjust the in-call volume you must be in a call and then use the slider on the side of the wizard. i'm not 100% sure but this is as good as my brain can manage today

hi, bsterngillet,
im also new to this here. just got my o2 min s last week. i just started tweaking it. i experienced the same situation as yours, and seemed to have figured out the problem.
with the original rom, AND without any program installed, the volume sliders behaviors are:
Master volume slider adjust Ringer, Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Phone
however, upon installing "certain" programs (in my case, a language translation/inmput software "Monster Chinese 5.1"), the volume sliders behaviors altered as:
Master volume slider adjust Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Ringer (but ALSO as a subset of Master Volume --- so it's like a old school mixer, master volume has an effect on the whole scheme of things)
The phone volume can then be altered during a call.
So, my settings now is:
Master volume slider = Halfway
Phone volume slider (i.e. ringer) = First click down from Max
Phone Voice volume= adjust as needed
hope this helps .... and hope this is correct.
I had a problem with this before...
I had been using my headphones prior to this though and when I put them back in and out it worked fine
Thanks to your thread i have been able to sort out exactly the same problem regarding vibrating but no volume. It did my nut in too, funny how there is usually a simple answer just around the corner.
Cheers

Hi all.
I have a brand new HTC Snap and just upgraded the ROM to version 6.5 (french version). When I modify a profile (normal for exemple) and set incoming calls to Ring + Vibrate, when I receive a call it only rings but doesn't vibrate. Note that when I set to Vibrate profile, it vibrates Ok. Does anybody else has this issue ?
found it
never mind, i found the problem. i think this is a WM 6.5 bug. if you go through the home screen to Profile and change the Normal profile to ring & vibrate it doesn't change. however, if you go through Start -> Settings -> Profile, and change from there, then it works. go figure.
I think you will find that if you use the volume control it will rewrite all the profiles that you set paramates for. The new 6.5 volume control allows you to set a volume, or vibrate, or silent. When you select any of these, it rewrites all profiles to make it work.
I suspect HTC did this, to "enhance" the volume control. Unfortunately they totally messed up with regards the profles, and effectively made them unusuable.
I have now reverted back to 6.1 on my Dash 3G, as I rely on the "automatic" feature of profiles in meetings, everyday.
HTC, or anyone who can help - is there a way to have 6.5 with the 6.1 volume? It seems from what little I can find on the subject in forums, that not many people seem to care about the "profiles" anyway. It's a shame, as this is a big feature in WinMo - the settings you can have for each profile -compared to other OS's.........
Anyone?

UPDATE:
Looks like the volume rocker actualy updates the registry each time at:
HKCU/ControlPanel/Sound Categories/Notifications OR Reminders.......
Ring vol and vib seem to work ok on Ookba's 2.6 beta rom, but the Reminders and Notifications are screwed up. HTC's fault, not Ookba's. Oh well, back to 6.1again for the moment.....
Any solution out there that anyone knows of? Pleeaassee?!!!!
not anoying
Ok, I see the volume rocker problem, but that's not really a problem for me since I don't use it a lot, I just use the 3 profiles Normal, Vibrate and Silent and set the volume permenantly in each profile settings. Thanks for the feedback.
Htc screwed up the profiles in WM 6.5 with their custom volume interface. I had the same problem, it always reverts to HTCs defaults. To fix it you need to perform a registry hack. Under HKLM\services\htcvolume change prefix=VOL to prefix=NOVOL and reboot your phone. This will bypass the HTC Volume overlay and use traditional WM volume interfaces. The only thing you lose is the quick links to silent and vibrate via the volume rocker panel.

Do you know if this fixes the problem where the System Volume does nothing? I upgraded to 6.5 (T-Mobile stock version) and the Ring Volume in the profiles affects both the Ring and the System -- In fact, if you completely mute the System Volume, you still get noise. Does this registry hack fix that, too? If it does, then man, you rock.
I believe so, I have a VZW Ozone and my system volume turned off in my profiles, yet when the phone rings, it rings correctly. I am not sure what system volume is for, so I don't know what to check against when I turned the System Volume up. The fix is easy, I would try it. Reverting is very easy, you just put the registry setting back to VOL. VOL is just a variable that is called when you use the rocker keys and the HTCVolume service is listening for. By changing it, you never initiate the HTCVolume Overlay.

Awesome, I'll try this.
If you want to test the system volume, go to a file and act as though you're deleting it. Hear that blip sound it gives you as a warning before you confirm the delete? The System Volume will affect that. On my phone, the System Volume can be completely muted, but if the Ring Volume is turned up, that blip will still be deafening. Kinda sucks when doing stuff like listening to music and then getting a call in the middle of it -- Especially when wearing headphones.
I had to try this out, unfortunately I can't edit the String in the registry. I'm using CeRegistryEditor, maybe someone could suggest another program that may change stuff like that?
If you want a registry editor on the Phone -- PHM Registry Editor is the one I used.
If you want to use a registry editor on your PC (with your phone hooked up via USB), you can use Mobile Registry Editor 1.1
Sorry, it won't let me post URLs

No problem : ) Google is easy enough. Sweet, it worked with PHM! THanks ^^
Worked for me
I used the registry hack and it worked great for me. Thanks so much. I was about to go back to WM6.1 or even WM5 because I use the profiles so much and it was driving me nuts! I have WM 6.5 on my first gen dash and it's like a new phone. I love it now!
I am really liking my Dash 3G. The only problem I have had was sometimes on my reminders, the volume would be silent. I tracked it down to when I used the side volume buttons. After making the registry change (using Total Commander) suggested in this thread, I have not had anymore problems.
Thanks!

Hi,
Does that mean that the rocker becomes useless afteward ? Is there a way to recycle this button for something else ?
This application is no longer being developed or supported. The source code is available on CodePlex, however. Enjoy!
Description
Mute4 is a very simple application. When run, it allows you to set your phone to the vibrate or silent profile and also set a timeout for when you want it to restore the normal volume profile.
Going to a movie? Set Mute4 for three hours. Going to a meeting? Set Mute4 to one hour. Just need a short coffee break without the phone ringing? Set Mute4 to 15 minutes.

Requirements
WM5/6/6.5
How to use
Run Mute4, then click on the Metro-style buttons to cycle through the options. The profiles available are Vibrate and Silent. The default timeouts are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, two hours, and three hours.
The "Metro style" UI was chosen for the same reason Microsoft did: it takes no time to make something look so 'basic' and I'm lazy. ;-)
How to create custom timeouts
Go to the application installation folder (\Program Files\Mute4 usually) and edit settings.ini. Under the Timeouts section, there are items called T1 through T5. The values are in minutes. You can edit those, add new lines, remove existing ones. Just remember that you can't have more than one variable name that are the same (as in, you can't have multiple "T1"). The INI reader doesn't like this. So make sure you make each variable name unique. But it doesn't really matter what you call it. The only other requiment is that the times be in increasing order. If they aren't, some values might be ignored. So if you do 15, 30, 20, the cycling will stop at 30 and cycle back to 15 in the UI.
Notes
Mute4 does not leave an app (or service) running to accomplish its task, so there is no performance degradation or battery life lost with its use. It sets a system timer to wake the phone up and run Mute4's "restore" app at the time you specified by the restore timer -- it's that simple. So have no fears about its use. In fact, you can even soft reset between running Mute4 and when the timer would normally fire and it will still fire right on time.

Changelog
Version 3
---------
- Modified the screen layout slightly to support square screens better.
- Fixed some bugs in the INI file parser (should not affect version 2.1 and older; this was related to saving INIs).
- Added the ability to modify the timeout settings within the application. Look under Menu (new right soft key) and Settings.
- The application actively checks before saving to see if Settings.ini is set to read-only and unsets the flag automatically.
- You can now select advanced mode, which lets you set the exact time the normal profile will be restored or a custom number of minutes from the current time.
- When a Mute4 timeout is set greater than 24 hours into the future, the cancel dialog will tell which day the phone is set to return to the normal profile.
- Minimizing Mute4 no longer exits the application.
- Cancel Mute4 timer button no longer flickers when pressed.
Version 2.1
-----------
- Fixed a bug in the V2 installer that set the settings.ini to read-only which could cause Mute4 to crash.
- The rare bug that was fixed in Version 2 apparently has siblings. Found another spot where enumerating the notification queue can cause a crash. Fixed.
Version 2
---------
- Fixed a bug where certain rare conditions would cause Mute4 to crash when you try to cancel an existing timer. Now Mute4 will try again and inform you if it is unable to clear the timer.
- Improved performance of some controls.
- Buttons gray out when inactive.
- Fixed a bug where certain timeout values would display incorrectly (for example, 45 minutes would display as 1 hour 45 minutes) due to incorrect math function.
- Fixed a bug (hopefully) where when on a phone call, the profile will not revert back to normal. The work around is to keep trying every five seconds until it works.
Version 1
---------
- Initial release
Thanks, such a simple idea, how did I live without this! I'm flashing today and will install asap and enjoy. Thank you.
Great idea! Will try it now. Thanks!
HTC TP2 - I want my phone volumne muted, but still want to listen to my music with my headphones. I have been told that stock WM have two seperate volumne settings, one for phone and one for device but that HTC's interface put them together.
Any idea if this mute profile is for the phone (ringer) or for the device? Would love to even take it a step further if possible to mute the phone, mute the external speaker, and keep the volumne for my music via a head set.
Nice idea, coz i always forget to switch it on back and kinda miss out some calls. Brilliant~

It affects both volumes. It uses the three built-in WM profiles (normal, vibrate, and silent) to switch, so the actual volume levels are not affected (in other words, when you switch back to normal, the volume is where you left it).
For more fine-grained volume control with a timer to reset, I recommend checking out a product called VolumeX. It should fit your needs nicely.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that if you are using Sense UI, it by default controls both volumes with one slider. If you go to settings, there's a checkbox to operate the volumes separately. That might be all you need. On the other hand, if you need a timed mute, Mute4 is for you. And if you need to manipulate volume levels on a timer, VolumeX is really great.
Very good application. I needed it...
Every so often an app comes along that quite simply kicks arse. This is one of those applications.
THANKYOU!!
Just a small bug. On my HD2, the taskbar icon doesn't change until you go in to the volume menu and then come back out of it. So it looks like the speaker is still on, even though it isn't. The same thing happens when you come back out of silent mode.

That's interesting. The icon is definitely changing on my TP2. It should change as soon as the profile is changed. Can you check to see if the same happens with other profile changing apps? For example, if you vibrate/silent using the system volume control?
Looks like its a bug in the ROM i'm using. If I change the profile under sound and display it does the same thing.
Great software
awesome app however I've always been finding one of these apps where i can schedule when it should be silent, when sound is supposed to on. Is it possible to include a scheduler in the program OP? or does anyone know any program that can allow me to schedule my sound profiles, thanks
Under your sound settings you should be able to set the phone to be on silent when you have a scheduled appointment in your calendar. You can with the HD2. Not sure about others.

Hi, perhase you can help me in this contence...
I tested Mute4 and also volumeX, but I didn' t find a solution for my problem.
For example in the programs "CraddleAlarn" or "Chronos" there is an input row, where I can insert a command which is executed at a from me choosen time.
I want to change to the "silent mode" each night at 2 h pm and to "normal mode" at 8 h pm.
I inserted the string "silent", but nothing happened.
Can you tell me the windows mobile system commands, that I have to put in there for silent, vibrate or normal (with the necessary prefix)?????
Thanks
Michael
Donated! Awesome app (especially once I set some custom time-outs).
Thanks!
Thank you! I remember having this feature on my Tapwave Zodiac and have missed it on every device ever since then! And now it has been restored!
THANKS ALOT man
this program is great
may i suggest making the timeouts like a clock, its really better and more handy
another thing, and i think its a bug
when set the profile to get back at anytime you want, and u are having a call then, or some body is calling you, the program doesnt change the profile, and stop trying to change it, even after the call has finished
i think making the program tries more than one time to restore the profile would solve that
Thanx again

Re: clock - Cool idea, but I won't be adding that. The source is available if anybody wants to do that.
Re: on call profile switching - Interesting find! I'll modify the profile changer to do exactly what you said... If it doesn't work, it will try again like a minute later until it 'takes.' That should solve the problem fairly well. it won't be perfect (as in there will be a lag between each retry) but it will get the job done.
I was digging around trying to find an efficient way to manage my audio & other settings during a game or another situation where I was in fullscreen. I started playing around with the profiles and found a handy way to quickly swap audio profiles without leaving the game itself.
Prerequisites:
CM7
Disclaimer:
This doesn't modify anything serious, but don't blame me if you screw your system up. Also, this may not work for every fullscreen scenario.
Let's do this thing!
Goto: Settings -> Profiles
There are already a few profiles configured, but you can delete/ignore those for the time being.
Click "New Profile"
Scroll to "Volume Overrides"
Name it accordingly "I named mine 'Media 100%'"
Set the volume for the individual situation "in my case it was media"
Make sure the checkmark is checked before you exit
That's it!!
Now, hold the power button on your device, select "profile" from the power prompt, and select your new profile. Your setting will be immediately applied and you never left your current app.
I set multiple combinations of audio setting profiles, and you can set yours however you like. I will post some screenshots of my setup later.
Alternatives:
The best alternative I have found is Wave Launcher. It seemed to lag after a while and disrupt some of the games I was playing when changing settings. It was, however, very efficient and had a cool media player widget overlay on any game.
Other uses:
This option is great for other settings as well. You can use your imagination for the potential, and post any other useful tips for Profiles here.
That's a pretty cool feature, I'm currently using Volume + Free for my volume control.

I just played around with the paid version a bit. Did you find a way to change the volume settings without leaving the forground app?
I use Volume Control. It puts a slider (that can be set to disappear after a couple seconds) on the right edge of your screen that can be accessed from any app, full screen or not (overlays on all windows).

Hello all
here is some info that I collected from multiple other places to help with the low volume problem in my Samsung Focus:
Increase Speaker Volume
1- Go to the dialer of your phone and access diagnostic mode by dialing ##634# or start the Diagnosis app by clicking it from your app menu.
2- Input *#0002*28345# to get to the Audio menu.
3- See the last option named “Device Gain (max/min)”... Hit the “Get” option next to it.
4- Now from among the 3 fields: in the second one enter 16000 and in the third field enter 0.
6- Hit “Set”.
7- Tap “Start” button at the bottom of the app.
8- Exit Diagnosis by clicking the windows home button then restart your phone.
Increase Headphone Volume
1- First and foremost make sure that your headphones are attached to your phone, as the fix won’t work otherwise.
2- Go to the dialer of your phone and access diagnostic mode by dialing ##634# or start the Diagnosis app by clicking it from your app menu.
3- Input *#0002*28345# in the diagnosis screen.
4- Navigate to “Device Gain (max/min)” and hit the Get button next to it.
5- In the 3 fields, enter these values respectively 5, 1100 and –1100
6- Hit "Set".
7- on the next line below change the AUDIENCE.CFG to "on".
7- Tap on the "Start" button at the bottom of the app.
8- Exit Diagnosis by clicking the windows home button then restart your phone.
NOTE:
Speaker volume may become so loud and it may crackle at really high volumes, so I use the hardware volume buttons to stay slightly below the maximum volume
You can try using the Diagnosis app to restore the default values below, but it may not help & only a hard-reset will apply these default original volumes:
Default Volume Settings (Speaker)
Device Gain (max/min): 7 / 1200 / -500
Default Volume Settings (Headphones)
Device Gain (max/min): 5 / 400 / -1100
If you do not have the Diagnosis app (or can not enter the Diagnosis mode), you can sideload the attached .xap
Hope this helps
There is a very similar thread a while ago, and I think most of this info is already on the Samsung Focus wiki.

like i mentioned: collected from many places..so its complete info
here i added the back speaker tweak too
and added a missing step in headphone tweak that fix the settings not sticking
also alerted users about possibility of "too high" volume & how to fix + attached the diagnosis app
so, someone can put all this on wiki...& delete this thread if you want
its just when i was using the wiki info alone it was not really helping & had to search additional sites

I didn't say it's bad stuff, it is useful. You should be able to edit and put it on the wiki, I think.

I recently purchased Samsung Omnia I8350. During initialization software got upgraded to 7.5
I wanted to increase the sound volume for headset and speaker using Audio controller utility as mentioned above but the menu doesn't come up. I am able to access Diagnosis application but unable to open Audio control utility using *#0002*28345# or *#0002*28346#. Nothing happens when I type this.
Can you provide me the solution?

What Diagnosis version do you have? if it's not v0628 then delete it and re-install by typing ##634#

Sadly, I believe you have the "latest" Diagnosis delivered through "Samsung Update" (past KK2), which stops interop unlock.
Can you please run Diagnosis, and run *#1234# and check/post your PDA (1st entry)?
The "Samsung update" info is in this post. You will have to restore (in Zune) in order to use the old Diagnosis and update manually.
