Just wanted to say hi. Made the jump today from Hero to Evo. Was running CM6 nightlies. I flashed CM after root, but now I'm trying Fresh. Sense finally seems useful with a phone that can run it without the lag. Looking forward to lots of flashing fun.

Welcome. Flashing has become quite the hobby for myself. I read through these forums everyday. Still pretty new to android though, the EVO is my first. I started with Fresh, and have moved around DC is pretty good, and I liked CM. But I'm back on Fresh again, there have been a lot of improvements since 0.3. I also like Launcher Pro, give that a whirl and if you like it, donate! The widgets are great, and it's important to support devs that deliver something so awesome.
I'm going to release my first rom soon! This will be an rom based off another persons rom that I've improved a lot IMO. just giving a notice it will be a few days bc I need to finish a few things I just wanted to let everyone know I can't wait to see what everyone thinks !!

It'll be Android 2.1 not 2.2 or 2.3. But it's amazingly fast so far!! Still developing and testing it

I've been loving AOKP, and the boot animation alone makes it worth it!
Wait for classic super magic it should be the best rom.

Not another one.....
Again, there is no "best rom". Everyone has their own opinion, and everyone has different wants/needs in a rom. Since you are rooted, just try out a few. That's the benefit of flashing roms, just make a backup, and if you dont like a new rom, flash another or reload your backup.

I can't get AOKP to run more than a minute (literally) without a random reboot and I have flashed my share of ROMs. Plus last I checked AOKP doesn't have everything working.
Your best bet for stable fully functional ROM is MikG3.0.
I'm liking AOKP but it still has some minor issues (being ICS, it's no surprise). I expect it to be my daily once everything is ironed out.
I'm using a tweaked CM7 for daily use, but I also really like the Mik roms.
I'm using the Ligux port from pspunderground. I'm not really into AOSP that much, but this is a great ROM. Very smooth.

No matter what I try cm7 nightly's always pulls me back. Especially since the officials started up again. I tried Nitrous 1.3.1 which was pretty solid. Radiance 6.1 runs great on my wife's phone.

On my evo i started compiling cm7.2 once a week or so then just wipe caches and flash the new one over the old i usually only compile when something new has been added that catches my eye or when several new things i dont really care about have been added the rest of the time im compiling cm9 for either the evo or my kindle fire and fixing to start compiling it for my et4g soon gotta figure out the ins and outs of this phone cuz its boot img is way different than my evo or fire

Nice post evil, care to share?

The cm9 on the evo isnt as smooth as the aokp yet it works pretty well on my fire but then again it only has wifi no cam no phone etc so alot of stuff can be left out for it , the evo however my last compile had battery issues and random forcecloses that were annoying ad hell but ive been having to mod the current ics kernel to play nice im hoping to find a devkit for a device or devices from htc with similar specs i can steal some drivers from to get the hardware working better right now im running 7.2 and only testing 9 for a day or so to see where i have it but atleast it boots up and most things will function once or twice before force close city kicks in

I am tired of flashing back to stock to get prl updates. Any favorite Sense roms? I am running the october 2011 stable release of cm7 and have been since late october without any real issue however my prl is getting really stale so I need to do something in the next week or two.
Edit- I should mention that I am looking for a fully functional daily driver sense rom. I looked through this list http://evo4g.roms-db.com/ and was hoping to narrow it down to one or two that others have tried/liked.
I require 4g radio, gps, 3g data, wifi and wireless hotspot (like cm7)

After running CM7 (per my previous post), i tried about 5 or 6 roms and eventually settled on mikg 3.1. Thanks for your help. Updated my hboot, radios, and prl easily and things are working really smoothly now. Reception issues are completely solved and 4g is working tons better. Thanks!
You should try decks ginderbread I've been running it for a few days and I get about 9 hours of battery or so.... and its pretty fast

I've been usin cm7.2 as my daily, but I've been playing around with the ICS roms as well. So far AOKP has been my choice. Can't wait for CM9 though!

Even though its all about personal preferences, I was using Rainy Day, which was stable, smooth, and fast...battery life was ok. I'm currently running The Express latest build by OD and his team...awesome rom...very fast, great battery life even with heavy use!, stable, with a ton of space!
The express is a godly ROM, I switch roms a lot and and always find something, with express nothing is ever wrong, constantly updated with perks, and has themed and stock, the devs really know what thier doing, sense based but amazing, I love it so much, that's rare for me to say for a rom

I agree exspress is the way go for daily sense rom not any bugs but like what's been said its all personal preferences plus its almost in rc mode which is exciting

I'm not an expert but I am learning about a lot of Evo history. So I can confidently say, eclair yes, donut no. And who is talking about cupcake? If anyone can get that running on an Evo let me know. I'll give it a go..

Challenge accepted! Lol Cupcake on the Evo. Wonder how that would run being that the Evo specs are well above what's needed. I'm assuming, if someone is actually able to get it to boot cupcake, that it would run about as well as running Windows 95 on one of today's typical PC specs.
In regards to the toolbox and apps. Would the flash 11.x work on GB as well? I thought flash stopped at 10.x for GB and 11.x was for 4.x.x (ICS and up).

I think it does run on GB. When I flash a rom I flash this group of app along with it. It shows up in my apps when I boot up but I am not sure of the last time I used any flash on my phone. I usually use my pc for the Internet.
Op has some more info. I will be working on it more over the next few days. This will have apps, tweaks, and tricks. The apps are one part of the toolbox that will start showing up in our roms. They will also be included in a flashable zip for those who are not using our roms. The second part of the toolbox will be exclusive to our roms. It consists of modifications to the installer script that will put a copy of your recovery log into a folder on your sdcard. It will also do a md5sum of the rom you are installing and put that in the folder also.
Remember this is a work in progress so don't expect it to be finished over night.

I booted up my DINC for the first time in over a year today! I kind of miss it. Now I have an S3.
It is on Cyanogenmod 7, and I would like to wipe it and have it as a webcam for my dog while I'm at work all day, and she's home alone. I thought it would be a fun and silly project, and put my old phone to good use. I was planning on using Skype with security settings, but it's not compatible with this version.
Can anyone recommend the best simple updated ROM for it? I used to change the ROM about once a month, so I'm pretty experienced at flashing, but I haven't done it (on this phone) in so long that I'm a little behind the times!
Thanks
I would suggest Tiny's CM 10.1. I'm about to flash it and in my experience, his work is pretty great.
