this is not a thread on how to flash a radio or rooting, or why...
i am wondering tho, either im missing it, or there are no updated/modified/extracted radio files like there are for the G2 for the mt4g?
i searched and all i got were ROM threads in the development section. im using a cyanogenmod 7 nightly 8 on my mt4g.
Well you are correct as ATM we don't have any other radio than the current baseband. Which don't even make sense as I am very surprised if it was another device they would have rolled 3-4 radio's by now to address battery consumption and better reception.
Does the radio affect the earpeice call quality at all? one reason why I went with the g2 and have been sticking with it is because the call quality plain sucks on the mt4g.
From my permarooted 1209mhz G2 with CM7 nightly 6
For your question yes and no. Yes for total wireless interface as radio controls your gps, voice, data, wifi, bluetooth, along with power and other memory functions. No for earpiece that depends on the quality of the hardware but as its allocated it does fall on software part which is addressed in framework normally. Now IDK why you thinking about switching down to G2 as MT4G is better if I were you I would stick with it. You can be sure when stock 2.3 OTA is out you will get new radio. But HTC still can shall out new radio IDK why they haven't done it for MT4G yet.
I like my mt4g but the earpeice stinks. Its real tinny sounding. The g2 is way better in that sense.
Its a weird mix. The feel, memory, screen, front camera and batt life are better on the mt4g but the g2 has a better earpeice, a real keyboard and is just as fast when rooted and modded. But the memory is meh. I'm just torn between the 2. Ill prob just keep both and swap back and forth when I get bored with one over the other.

Which do you use and why?
I use all 3, because I like to test each developers work and decide for myself which I prefer, as well give them feed back as a thank you/doing my part.
Cyanogen is awesome... 5.0.6 is sweet.. not even 1 issue and its got 2 things I really want, apps 2 SD and gifs working in the browser... awesome...
Definitely Cyanogen I like it the most.
All 3 but I definitely like the visual appeal of the Desire ROM by KingNexus and Paul from Modaco!!!
Until we get the the Desire kernel, Desire ROMs simply should not be put in speed test. It is not up to par with even the stock Nexus, and anyone who thinks its as fast as Enom, or Cyan, are just not in their right mind.

its faster
swiping through homescreens, launching apps, and the browser is amazingly fast.
Voted: Cyan
Have used all 3. I liked Enom's, and felt he did some things better... But my phone started acting up, so I simply went back to CM. Enoms is perfectly acceptable though.
For me, Desire is fail. Without working BT, it's not usable for me. I use it daily in the car for BT Audio (Audiobooks + Pandora). Nothing against the chef, just unusable atm.

Might have to retry it then
I love the look/feel of the ROM itself. Just tried it twice and my car never liked it. So I gave it up. I'll have to reinvest some time again.
cyanogen
More stable, cleaner, maybe not the fastest but very fast, most popular so any other mod will be compatible with cyanogen room before any other, best reputation since day one on G1, and it has a nice logo
I like cyanogens been using it since my g1. I never tried enomthers so no offense to his ROM. Cyanogens always has little extra things in his such as setting the trackball light for sms notifications from directly within the sms app idk what else but there's some more. Its also fast and stable. I used desire for a while as my main Rom but that was mainly for flash player and I always switched back and forth between desire and cyanogen and finally decided I don't really need flash player that much and that I could wait for 10.1
This poll is unfair because Desire Rom is still in alpha status

I would say I tested all 3 I am using Cyanogen but will VOTE DESIRE
as regular use I loved sense and the filing behind it but BT is big issue.
As it is alpha it is most promising from regular user point o view.
I will try to do the install on top of Pouls rom now.
Cyanogen, as usual
I have really given all 3 ROMs a shot, using each for long periods (I love you, nandroid!). Just like with my G1 and my MT3G, I always end up back on Cyanogen. You just can't beat having a great and stable ROM. Although, for the first time, I have to admit that the Desire ROM, King's in particular, is really close to being my daily ROM now, if the camera flash and bluetooth get fixed, I will be a full time Sense user.
i was running cyanogen for awhile on my n1. The performance of it was great, but I got tired of always having to have a charger on me.
I am on enomther's now and I love it. The battery life is similar to stock and it has fix all the issues I had with stock.
I was using CyanogenMOD till I got tired of having to charge every four hours. Now I'm using Enom's now since it doesn't suck up the battery!
I have heard that the battery life with CM is pretty brutal.. Is this problem generally fixed by using SetCPU?
FYI, I have used all 3 ROMs as well and I LOVE the Desire ROM particularly by King and I was very disappointed when I was unable to use my bluetooth due to the fact that I use it EVERY day! After giving it one more shot with my new BlueAnt Q1 headset, I am happy to say that my Bluetooth is perfectly functional for calls and A2DP! I love the Sense UI and even though its not as fast or stable as Cyanogen's ROM it is PRRRRETTY as hell! It will only get better as more updates are released for the Desire... Oh, and the battery life is fantastic! CM ROMS would die within 8 hours and Enom's are better but the Desire Port from King is crazy good!
I somehow fail to understand the motive behind this poll?
1) If you really wish to show your support to a chef... donate him.
2) If you want to know which one is better for you... try them all..don't flash a ROM just because everyone else is using them.
3) If you want to help others decide... then don't.. let them try all the ROMs
The poll seems unfair and discouraging to new chefs.
It is the one without a 3.5mm jack so It has less than 200mb of ram... I was planning on running CM 6.0 on it.. anyone know how good it performs in this case?
I think if its rooted its worth it
I am not too sure about the price, but I was running CM5 on my G1 and just switched over to a MyTouch and installed CM5 on it. There is a considerable amount of difference in speed and it is pretty smooth. Now I just miss my keyboard...
having recently bought an original mytouch 3g used ($100), I wish I had gotten the newer version with the built-in jack, that adapter is a pain
I have the black MyTouch3G, and have been flashing Cyanogen ROMs on it ever since I bought it last October. Of all the Cyanogen ROMs I've put on it, I think 5.0.8 (Eclair) is the fastest and most stable one yet. Tried his 6.0.0 (Froyo) one on it, and just had too much instability on it. Is it worth $120? I totally think so. The only question you should ask is how much the phone was used, because with as much as I use my phone I think my battery is slowly losing its umph. I still love my phone though.
Not to Jack the thread but have you tried wiping your baterry data to recalibrate?

mt3g
I have a black my touch 3g running chromatic 4.2 for about a week now. Lovin every minute. No prob. here at all. Fast and smooth. Looks good too. I think it would be worth it
Ive never been a fan of the mytouch line just because im a fan of vanilla android but someone offered me a trade the only reason why I would do it is because of the ffc, and are there any vanilla roms I can flash?
Considering the same swap. Need to get the wife a phone, so I'm passing on my G2 and getting a MT4G. It's a hard decision, as the G2 is now free with contract on the t-mobile site, but I'm not a keyboard fan and would rather have the slimmer phone with more RAM.
I would do it as long as you know for a fact that the MT4G works great and has the superior screen.
You can put on Cyanogens 6.1 on there, it's a RC but CM7 is coming along nice.
Other than that, there is a stock G2 rom for this too, it should be somewhere on the forums.
And I'm coming from a G2 myself so yeah, I really enjoy this phone. Took a couple days to get used to not having a keyboard but it's good from there on.
Oh and the battery life sucks compared to the G2, I remember I would get about 2 days with Cynaogens 6.1 rom, and even with the cyanogens rom on this, I get about 8-10hours with moderate to heavy usage...
I went from G2 also...i like the MT4G much better.

Also came from the G2. The radio on the G2 was horrible.... I hated the sense version on the MT4G but i've now got normal sense on the phone and all is wonderful.....
I've owned both a G2 and MT4G (and a Nexus S)
and without a doubt the MT4G is the fastest and best.
If you can do without a keyboard go for it.
I had Swype on my Nexus One and thats all I've used for months now.
I didnt use the keyboard when I had a G2.
I like both phones, I have both. Mt4g is a tad bit better and we do have cm6 and cm7 runs great.

This.
Keyboard on the G2 was nice, that and the fact that it's a G2, but the MT4G is a beast. NS was meh. Pretty to look at, and that's about it.
The MT4G is a superhero when it comes to hardware, and CM6 and CM7 are both stable enough to be daily drivers. I almost never use the FFC, but I know I wouldn't ever use the physical keyboard and I really like having the extra RAM. The physical buttons are a nice touch too.
Overall I'm in love with this thing, just make sure you read up on the good display vs. bad display issue. It's easy to test through Terminal with the DMESG command, root NOT required.

MT4G = very fast and powerful phone IF you get lucky, otherwise you will be plagued with the ****tiest quality control to date which can easily get you through 3-5 warranty exchanges.
You will also need a custom ROM to make it very fast and powerful, out of the box it has pissed poor battery life and gets real laggy.
Most custom ROMs have problems with FFC
G2 = Very fast and powerful and great battery life out of the box. The keyboard config make it kinda big and I go worst reception than with the MT4G by a tinny bit.
I didn't miss the extra RAM when I was using the G2, there's really no need for all that in Android.
I miss the keyboard, but not the bulk.
The part about plain Android not needing extra ram is true. On CM7 I usually about 400mb of free ram.
The MT4G with CM7 is the greatest phone I've ever used.
Evil ported the G2 ROM so you can use the exact same ROM with better hardware

I did exactly this only yesterday and am extremely happy with my decision. This phone is allot quicker, no worrisome hinge and this screen I think is allot more enjoyable to look at! Also the only thing I used the keyboard for on the G2 was emulators!

i have to agree fully.
Did the swap Wed. Wife is happy with the G2 as it just sits in a pouch in her purse. I'm actually faster typing on the Gingerbread soft keyboard, the phone is much thinner in the pocket and CM7 is running nearly perfectly (as long as you use Tango or Yahoo vs Qik for FFC video conferencing).
If I was sticking with stock, I would seriously consider sticking with the G2 though, as the MT4G ships with so much OEM crapware and Sense bloat, it's hard to even find your apps in the drawer (which looks like a lame iPhone rip because of the Sense ROM).
I am on superclean.05 GB rom and stock rooted kernel. Very happy with it, but I have never had a non touchwiz rom on my phone.
For a while I have been wondering what is it like to be on the other side, so I am wondering what rom would you recommend in MIUI or CM7.
Stability is important for me, I dont want to flash something that will FC left and right, or have features like wifi or gps, etc that do not work.
If you guys can recommend me a ROM and even better provide the links that would be awesome.
Thanks in advanced.
I loved both MIUI and CM7, both were faster then Superclean right now, also the interface I like a lot better then TW, BUT suffered two major issues that prevented me from using the phone.
Could no longer use the speakerphone, since all people on other end said there is a bad echo, and I use my speakerphone a lot.
Also would lose data connection a lot of times, and only fix was to restart phone
I would love to go back to them, but for now I am sticking with superclean and probably be the last rom I go to until I get a new phone.
This rom is great, and is what the phone should have been a year ago when I got it.
I enjoy Miui for the customization....It takes a bit getting used to and finding everything that works for you...Basically you can skin the lock screen, the pull down, home screen and even SMS client. I like the camera better on this than asop too.
CM7 is nice and straight forward, if you like everything to look stock, this is the way to go.

I did notice the same data issues when I first got this phone a little bit ago and (immediately) started running AOSP roms. But the data issues have all but disappeared for me, with the one issue that occasionally happens being the radio getting stuck on 1x after sending/receiving SMS. I'm not sure if it's more kernel or rom related, but users have reported vastly improved data connectivity with the latest Glitch test kernels. I'm using RickS MIUI by the way.
You can't really go wrong with CM7 or MIUI, I used CM7 for a long time on my incredible before switching to MIUI. They're both very functional, customizable, and awesome roms, but the ¡amazing! theming capabilities of MIUI are really hard to give up for me.
MIUI is actually based on CM7, so like everyone else is saying both ROMs are extremely responsive and quick. Your decision will mostly be made on the UI and the features you want. Both highly customizable and easy to learn.
Try them both for a week. They are free after all!
Man this phone is beautiful. Size and build quality are A+ really good in the hands. Sound is surprisingly good for a single speaker. I also like the Oxygen OS as well. Call quality is good too. There are a few things though that would make this phone even better, and I bet if they had these features the phone would have sold 50% more than it did. They are:
1. LTE on all bands including 12 and 17
2. Dual WIFI 5 G
3. More Timely updates
4. Better Camera
They could make a Oneplus X SE version and have those features and charge say $279 Overall pleased with it.
There had to be few compromises. Yes the camera could have been better. But there is a version by sultanxda that enhances the camera. It is good.
Yet to buy this phone. Cannot wait*!
It is a very good phone but it is even more amazing once rooted and a custom rom flashed on it which you may or may not want to do yet. I think it may also be possible to unlock the locked LTE bands once rooted but am not sure.
I tried to put a custom ROM on it. Must have tried 8 or 9 of them. They would install fine but I would get no cellular data, I had no signal from T-Mobile. Finally just gave up and went back to stock and everything worked.

That's interesting..I'm still thinking of flashing a custom rom... For now I use stock oxygenos with bluspark kernel, rooted. I still try to add all funktions that are missing for me via xposed and apps but for one it's quite some work to do and I'm also concerned of additional battery drain. My cell phone carrier is T Mobile Austria.
I'm sure it was just me, user error some how I must have missed a step or something
Wow this is strange. I just went back to try and flash Exodux Rom and this time it worked. I have data and everything. I have no idea what I did different this time to get it to work.

Not to mention that you can do even more with the camera from Color OS
This is the best $250 you could spend on a device really. Its perfect. No performance drawbacks or anything like that. The only things I could ask for if they made a X^2 is a bigger battery and a better camera sensor... Maybe an 805 or 652 as well... and maybe 3.18 kernel sources... but hey, I'm happy.
Regarding 5ghz WiFi... That would be awesome and actually, with an internal mod, should be possible. But even with 2.4ghz I'm able to go a far distance away from home and still have a decent connection that I wouldn't have on any other device

Agree. I got the ceramic version, paid $300 (onyx version would have cost the same for my country) for 9 days now and I'm pleasantly surprised. 5ghz wifi and a bigger battery are the only 2 things missing for me.
A cm based rom, not overly bloated makes it perfect. OxygenOs itself is not perfect but after rooting, installing bluspark kernel, removing some google apps and using xposed modules it's great.
If one is used to have a custom rom flashed, I can only recommend the xposed module gravitybox..lets you greatly customize your rom.
Thinking of upgrading to this from my 2014 Moto G that I got before Chirstmas as an emergency purchase. It's lasting me fine and running a highly optimized stock ROM very well. But I really want something that has more under the hood. Especially in the RAM category. I'm not a super heavy user in terms of how many apps I run. (I try to keep whats running in the background to an absolute minimum) So having the 'latest and greatest' specs isn't really a concern for me.
My only concern is the lack of the popular LTE bands being that I live in the states. I've been living on HSPA+ for the past 4 months and really haven't had much to complain about. Anyone care to share how well it does on 3g and the like?
