How do I install the App pacs like the one with live wallpapers?
Do I just unzip and intall all the .apk files manually on the phone or do I need to flash or something?
I'm totaly new to rooting. Have just flashed RCmagic v7 on my HTC Magic (which had a perfected SPL)
Solved
I compared the contents of the RCmagic_v7.zip with the App_pack2.zip, and they seemed quite alike, so I assumed tha app pack shoudl be flashed from recovery, and I assumed correct.
But the live wallpapers did not work... some chrashed, some did not show up at all...

Does anyone know where i could get the apk for the htc smart dialer and contacts applications found in the rogers build?
Android Market. 3 day free trial and then £2.99
Thanks, but that is not what i mean. What i am talking about are custom applications made by htc that only appear on their custom builds, not in the market. I wanted to see if there was a way of obtaining them similar to the way of obtaining htc's custom keyboard.
screen shot or a link would be helpful

sorry, couldn'd find a big enough screen shot, but click this link:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/magic/overview.html
click the "take quick tour button" and you will see exactly what i am talking about.
You could download a Roger's ROM from the dream forum and extract the .apks from there.
@thefoss
could you explain how that is done; just from the point where you extract the rogers rom.
Well I tried installing the HTC Contacts and Dialer APK from the hero build but no success says it will NOT install on This Phone. Even tried the Smart Dialer from the Market and does the same thing.
OH by the way I tried to install them on my Mytouch 3G with no success Someone help us out on this Plz

Your def not moving over htc dialer and contacts to mytouch with out root. Its not just not happening right now. And superdial from the market installs just fine
That app is SLOW :/
If you really want all HTC stuff simply install HTC image...
The problem is that you'll need to install lot of HTC stuff with that dialer...
The idea is cool but... slow :/
HERO applications will NOT work on NON-HERO ROM's.
The HTC Smart Dialer and Contacts is NOT A HERO APPLICATION

Go here and download the Rogers-Wiped Nandroid image. When you unzip that package there will be a collection of .img files. Go here and download Unyaffs (I have only used it on Ubuntu and I have no idea how it will work on Windows) and put it in your android-sdk/tools directory (assuming this has been added to your PATH). Make a directory called system and cd into it. Use unyaffs to extract the system.img file that you downloaded
Code:
unyaffs system.img
In that system folder there should be a bunch of folders and a few files. Look in the app folder. You will see the .apk files there.
Hope this has helped a bit!
i guess the mytouch has to be rooted for this to work on it. they wont install via appmanager, but why does htc_ime.apk work and these wont. im guessing because they are system files. yeah im a noob
Make sure you have the install from "Unknown Sources" checked... Then try again. It is in the APP manager under settings.
ive rooted my mytouch, and the apk's wont install on cyanogen 32B 3.9.9.1
i would really like to know about this as well. my mytouch doesnt have a rooted rom on it but i do have superuser permissions. can i push it using adb? i wouldnt know what commands to use.
I wanted to bring back this thread because I have the same question as the above 2 posters.
Does anyone know why the apk installer wont install the contacts apk (my phone is rooted, and I pulled the apk from a rom that I've used on this phone)?
those HTC utilities are not open source, hence they are not included in any of the cyanogen mods. the HTC framework that is needed for them to work is simply not present.
your only option is to get a rom for the rogers/tim etc which does include them..
Extracted htc_contacts.apk
I've extracted the file htc_contacts.apk and I've opened with Archive manager under Ubuntu.
I've found many many XML files, some certs... I think the installer check the phone model and then says You cannot install the apk. But if the apk is the only source for installatione, we could find the controls in it.
Am I wrong?
I've always loved NexusMod live wallpaper but it does not work on froyo. i have purchased NexusMod and it sucks that it is only available on cyanogen's froyo ROMs (at least im pretty sure thats the only place you can get it to work). i noticed drizzy linked to nexusmod that functions on froyo but unfortunatly it's in an "update.zip" format (for anyone unfamiliar with android that means you would flash it just like a ROM). is there anyway to turn that file into a ".apk" file so we could install it manually since out HD2s dont have a recovery image to flash ROMs/update.zip files the same way a Nexus One can?
PS. i hope its alright to link to this attachment. i believe its nothing more than the file ripped from cyanogen's froyo ROM.
It's easy. Rename your .zip to .apk ... and install it ^^
I was just wondering if there are a clever trick to reflash a theme already installed on the device.
In this particular situation I have changed some of the icons in the framwork-res.apk. I then copied them to the theme, wich is BrightSilence, and tried to flash it all over again. Result - bootloop.
So, is there any step you could do to circumvent this, or is the only option to reflash the ROM. and then the theme?
Thanks
Yes, just reflash a unmodified version of, in your case, BrightSilence or am i missing something?
Or revert to the nandroid you made before messing with the system partition.
The thing is that BrightSilence is already installed on the device, but now I want another set of icons. Flashing the theme again with the modified framework-res just result in a bootloop.
It seems there really is no shortcut, than to reflash ROM, then new theme.
Thanks anyway.

U are wrong.
Installing theme - means overwriting some files into new ones, not adding or removing some.
So if u changed framework file, flashed and got bootloop - u can flash theme again (overwrite bad file) and boot correctly.

I do get that really. But what now if I want to apply a new framework-res? I know I can always nandroid my self out of a bootloop.

U have to mod framework correctly and will not end in booloops.
Use Apk Manager to decompile, change, compile and sign framework-res.apk.
Do not push file via adb - use flashable zip.

But the framework-res is from the UOT, shouldn't that be packed/signed properly?
Well, I am going to try anyway, thanks!
EDIT: Tried to cook a new file, with the exact same framework-res I used earlier. Used UOT to cook, and worked perfectly. Thanks to mendozinas! ;-)
Hey,
I'm using various NAND Roms with sense. In some of them i.e. the Location App, The News App (HTC Greader) or the Internet-fav-widget are missing.
My question is, whether it's possible to get these missing apks (I already extracted them from antother sense build) back in this build?
Can I create my own update.zip? Or any other ideas?
greetz
tom
Just do an nandroid backuo via CWM and try out
when you already extracted the apk files you can just put them in the .zip file of the rom you want to flahs before flashing...
for example I replaced the launcherpro.apk in some (non sense) bulids with the adwlauncher.apk before flashing and then adw was automatically used as default launcher...
Thanks... do i have um flash another recovery layout? Cause of the bigger size of the mod ROM?

I have just flashed an andriod rom with htc sense(developed based on the stock rom of desire HD), the developer deleted Facebook for HTC sense, friend stream and some widgets...
Is there any way that i can restore these things with flashing a new rom?
Can i simply copy the *apk from the stock rom and put them into the system/app folder?
Thanks a lot.

when you put something in system/app you don`t "run" them.
just reboot the phone. the apk will be installed automatically.
