N1 wifi Issues solved with Gingerbread - Nexus One General

I have always had an issue with the wifi on my N1 when trying to connect to my router at home. Getting a connection use to be hit or miss, I would often try connecting over and over again with no success. Even when I did connect it would drop out as soon as the phone when into standby.
Well to my surprised after downloading/installing GB I went to attempt to get on wifi and it connected right away. I was shocked to say the least. I turned it off and tried it again and it connected again. Then I put the phone in stand by and it still stayed connected. Then I had to run to the store and left wifi on, when I got back to my apartment it connected again, no issues. This is completely awesome!

Froyo 2.2.1 fixed my major wifi issue (wifi going dead while the phone was asleep), but not the smaller issue where my connections would randomly disable themselves occasionally. I haven't seen that happen since Gingerbread though, so that's a good sign so far.
My only remaining issue with wifi is that the DNS cache still doesn't get flushed when switching to/from wifi to/from 3G/EDGE. This causes me frustration with our Exchange server which has a different IP on our LAN than it does on the public internet...

Congrats. I used to have problems, but I got a new router and it has been fine since. I used to get the "disabled" once in a while, but then I started using Auto Wifi Toggle, and never had another problem.
I know how you feel, it's nice when things work.

I've found these wifi connection issues to be Mostly Harmless

Really?! How come the same issue wasn't solved for me until gingerbread?
Now wifi is working just perfect Connects fast, sleeps when it should and transfers are awesome and rock solid

I had an issue with my home router and N1 where the N1 would connect, but after a bit of idle time, lose connection. It would re-try connecting only when I turned the screen back on and waited a good 10sec.
I was on 2.2, then 2.2.1, then 2.2.2
Now with 2.3.3 ...... my WIFI stays connected at home and at work... no hiccups at all.

I had exactly the same issue with my N1. Oddly, it got worse when I upgraded to a newer router (New D-Link with -n, compared to a 6yo Netgear with -g only) No idea why, but it did.
I finally got the OTA last night for Gingerbread and only now does it automatically connect and stay connected to WiFi like it should have.
My N1 is plain vanilla - no mods. For the 6+ months I've had the phone, it would constantly lose connection. I'd hit the WiFi button on the Power widget to turn off and on just to force it to reconnect to WiFi. 5 minutes later, I'd check my phone... back on 3G. I knew it was the phone, because I have plenty of other portable WiFi gadgets that stay connected just fine.
Whatever it is, I'm glad they fixed it.

G1 WiFi Issue

So prior to rooting my phone, my wifi quit working completely. When I turn on wifi, nothing happens. It doesn't even scan. No networks show up even though my 2 laptops are both connected to them as well. And it was working just fine on the many different wifi spots I frequent. Even adding the networks manually has no effect. I enter all the info 3ft from my router, and it says remembered, but not in range. I have since rooted and updated to JF v1.5 and have yet to of remedied this bull****.
Any ideas? Please and thank you.
i've had problems with my WIFI too, for some reason it just....well dies :/ using JF 1.51 tis quite strange...very tempermental one second it works next it's dead...

Wi-fi not working

After connecting to 3 different wireless connections and none of then working, I'm concluded that my wifi isn't working.
I go to settings and check wifi on, it finds the network, connects, but I lose my entire data connection for the duration wifi is turned on!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
I'm having the same issues with the wifi. I downloaded wifi analyzer to make sure I was on a good channel. Set it to the best channel and my signal strength is 100%. I will be able to connect for a little bit but for some reason it goes in and out, connection unsuccessful, yada yada yada. I messed with all the troubleshooting solutions for my router (dgl-4300) but nothing works. If anyone can reply with a fix or point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.
Same Issues
Any help is greatly appreciated. Data working fine when on 3G but Wifi = no data. Connection is fine, IP is fine.
UPDATE: It's working again on my home WIFI. Will have to see if it's just an "at work" issue. Hopefully IT can assist.
Same problem with Verizon MiFi
I have had ZERO problems connecting to the Linksys access points we have setup at my home and my office, but recently my work provided me with a Verizon MiFi (as well as an iPad - don't hate ) and I've had MANY issues trying to get my Vibrant to consistently connect to the MiFi.
My iPad, Motorola Droid, and Laptop have no issues connecting to the MiFi.
On my Vibrant I'm running the 2.1 stock ROM with root & the latest ClockWork recovery.
It will "connect" to the MiFi (I use quotes because I can't really tell - it AT LEAST receives an IP). But I'm unable to send and receive data. I can't even browse to the MiFi's internal configuration page .
To FINALLY get it to connect consistently I have to do some kind of random combo toggling the wifi off and back on and then turning the MiFi off and back on and it will EVENTUALLY connect and stay connected with data flowing freely.
I've customized my configuration a little bit on the MiFi so I'm going to reset it back to factory and not change the config to see if it makes a difference - because at lunch I was able to connect to my boss' MiFi with no problem. I'm thinking it may either be the phone or the mifi...
I've connected to about 10 different wireless networks with NO issues, at all. The connectivity is actually much better than my G1/Nexus.
HOWEVER, last night at a bar I was connected to their wifi, strong signal, but I was not able to use Data. I was in a very poor reception area for T-Mobile... don't think that could be an issue, bit the other places I use wi-fi that is not the case.
I just chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Not sure what was wrong.
I had this happen to me today. I just rebooted and it went away. Toggling wifi didn't help, but I only tried it once. The phone reboots so quick I figured I'd give it a try.
I have set the phone up manually with static ip. Seems like its a problem with the dhcp.

[UPDATE]Official Nexus one Wifi issue thread(every N1 owner should read)

Sorry I know this problem probably has been brought up many times. But here I just want to make a total one and collect all the feedbacks from N1 users regarding to the wifi sleep issue with N1.
Let's just make it simple: Every N1 owner PLEASE DO test out the wifi connection when your phone goes to sleep as there are MANY people suffering from this problem all over the world. Especially the later buyers since February this year, almost every phone is potential to this problem.
######################################################
Diagnosis:
1. Set the wifi sleep setting to "never" in the wifi advanced setting menu.
2. Turn on Last.fm app(or Pandora, but Last.fm is most effective and responsive one to test it out), leave the phone on wifi and turn off the phone screen or let it goes to sleep.
3. The symptom is the app will stop streaming shortly afterwards(with Pandora stops maybe after one song, for which I suggest everyone test it for at least 15 minutes). Also most likely you will stop getting any email notification or anything requires data connection. And you might not be able to ping your phone or the ping responses VERY slow as well.
######################################################
######################################################
Background:
This problem was recorded from earliest almost 6,7 months ago and has affected both AT&T and T-Mobile versions(with reports of the same issue on other versions sold outside US). So far, it's suspected that the problem mostly likely lies in the lower level architecture of the phone(either software or hardware) because the problem still exists even after people has replaced the stock ROM with the custom ROM. Another proof is that people get problem with brand new phone and also the replacement phone. Another note is the problem has been found both before FROYO update and after. At this moment, there's no official fix(some Google employee blatantly brushed the issue away and asked N1 users to get over it, check out the link below for original conversation) for this issue except a work around thanks to wifi fixer app developer.
######################################################
This issue is often times neglected by N1 users because usually people don't use the phone on wifi all the time or they simply switch between 3g and wifi. But for people who use wifi a lot or use VOIP, it could be a real deal breaker.
So here I just hope everybody could test your phone out and see if you have this issue or not. Please report how your result turns out in this thread. Also, for further and more detailed discussion and cases, please check this out:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...52&hl=en&fid=01a47ff5b0a92d5200048be07b6cb5c1
You are more than welcome to add your experience to the discussion above so hopefully it can wake google up.

UPDATE:
So Broadcom just released a wifi driver fix several days ago which may solve this issue. According to the record, phones with non-zero MAC address suffer from problem.
The driver has been incorporated into the latest Cyanogenmod(either RC or nightly build). People are reporting it fixes the problem while in some other cases, the problem still exists even after the fix, even for people who's MAC address starts with 00.
Last.fm works fine with the screen off here, always has done. I even turned off mobile data to be sure it's not switching over to that.
This is with the wifi set to sleep with the screen off (ie. the default setting).
i've been using wifi fixer and since i installed it, i haven't had a single wifi disconnect on my home network(it seems to be a network dependent issue as i never have issues on other networks)

yeah, the point here is that many phones have the wifi sleep policy issue(doesn't work).
Indeed, however mine does, so this thread will need both sides of the argument
No problems on my Nexus One, running latest CM 6 nightly build.
I bought it couple months ago from eBay, so I'm not sure which shipment it is from.
Only issue I'm having after upgrading to Froyo is that my phone won't connect to my home network by itself when in range.
I have to go into Wifi Buddy and manually connect. This never happened on 2.1, but magically started after the FRF50 update, and never fixed itself in the next couple of builds.

I have always had this same issue! Maybe its something to do with my home wifi? I am yet to test it on froyo.
I am mostly connected to wifi with no sleep issue.
I have kind of the same issue at home, I recently replaced my wireless router, I never had problems connecting to the old one it would just stop broadcasting constantly but my N1 would always connect automatically. With the new router my N1 keeps saying the connection is disabled and I have to connect manually. This never happens at work, it always connect automatically so it seems to have something to do with the router settings but I have no idea what.
No problems here. Last.FM works fine for me on WiFi when screen is off. I also get notifications. Running FroYo rooted with locked bootloader

i am having the same problem, when i go out of range from my wireless and then back in range, the n1 just says scanning and never re-connects.
that said, using a channel lower than 11 on my router did seem to help with the sleep issue.

sorta, i never had the issue on any network besides my home one
I've also been having the disconnect problem with my N1. Maybe it would help if people whose sleep policy is actually working could post what wifi router/AP/whatever they are using. Also, if possible the first for identifiers of their MAC address. I read on one of the Google posts someone with a MAC address starting with 38:E7 having problems. The MAC for my phone is the same. For what it's worth I'm using a D-Link DIR-655 router and a Speedtouch 716 v5 WL and am experiencing the disconnect on both.
I've had the issue with 2 N1 tested on 3 different routers. I've read that it is related to the low power mode the N1 uses while sleeping not playing nice with routers. Not all N1 show the problem, apparently only the most recent ones. I've called google support and was told google knows about the issue and is working on it, but I am a bit cynical and I'll believe it when I see a fix.
Wifi-fixer fixed my problem only after I disabled Sipdroid which was interfering with it.
Mac adress: 38:E7: D8
I'll post my router model later when I get home.

It's weird because most of the time I don't have this problem. My WiFi stays connected all night long to WiFi. But once in a while it does disconnect and switch to 3g. I think its certain routers, because I didn't have this problem for first 3 months on my old router, now it happens with my new router.
My phone never has trouble reconnecting back to WiFi. Everyday when I come home from work, as I walk up my driveway the phone has already automatically connected to WiFi. I've made sure about this one since I read this problem all over.
I bought my Nexus One directly from Google when it came out for AT&T. It certainly has the wifi issue and it is very annoying. My expectation is that the phone jump on my wifi network when in range as all of my other phones have done. Instead I have to manually engage the phone to get on wifi. SUCKS!
this is the biggest problem for me with my n1.
although the wifi does stay awake, it slows right down..
if i ping my phone, the response time increases when the phone is asleep, but doesnt time out.
if i ftp a file from my laptop to my phone, the speed drops from 1mb/sec to 100kbps/sec when the phone is asleep.
i have found the app "fix my wifi" solves the problem of waking the phone after a few hours of sleep and finding the wifi has failed. if only there was a way of getting the speed to stay the same.

[Q] WiFi problems and questions

My WiFi on the Atrix crashed all my 3 routers (ActionTec/Dlink/Linksys), sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after several hours.
The routers needed restart after that. Also wired connections were affected.
I tried messing with static IPs and sleep mode, nothing worked!
Now I upgraded my Dlink DIR 655 from 1.11 to 1.33 (supposedly the best).
Things changed
Now my Atrix takes only itself down, the Dlink keeps working for other wireless and wired devices.
The Atrix says its connected and I get the icon with full bars, however no data is transferred. The market and other apps say network error.
I can switch connection over to my other WIfi network and all is good again.
Has anyone seen this behaviour?
Also is there an app that shows me the link mode G or N and the current link speed? I cant seem to find a good app. I would also like to see if I can lock the Atrix to G or N only. Is there such a toggle switch?
Thanks.
Update: Switched connection from Dlink to Linksys and it worked for about 30 minutes then the linkksys crashed (could not reconnect got no IP). Switched back to the Dlink, got connected, good signal but no data. Even after a phone reboot. So I think it might be still on the DLink side although I have Netflix (PS3 wireless) and another PC connecting fine. This and the VOIP mic problems (Skype etc...) bug me the most about the phone.
ive been having this same problem since i got my phone and im still having problems. its pissing me off. cant even use my netflix through the Wii to watch on the big screen

Newest 3.2 Update Ruined Wifi

Hey guys, the newest 3.2 update (not the first one but the second one that came out) messed up my Wifi and now I can't connect to it. I've turned off/one my roouter+modem, wifi on tablet, tablet itself, and re-added the network multiple times and nothing seems to work. What happens is that I add the network and it would try to connect and authenticate but then it just retries connecting again and then all the available wifi networks are gone. It's a mess. And it happened a few times where it would finally connect but then no webpage would open after a few minutes and the wifi bars on the bottom right turn from blue to grey. Wtf. How the hell can Samsumg mess up something like that? And no it's not my wifi since it works perfectly fine with alllll of my other devices.
I just had exactly the same problem. 3.2 was working fine for a couple of days for me but now has difficulty connecting and when it does connect doesn't seem to be able to reach the internet. No issues with other devices. Time for a custom ROM?
Had also issues with wifi and the latest stock 3.2. It went away with Task 6.1 and probably the other custom rom also.
And now it is all working again.
Strange but worrying.......
On the contrary the wifi is better now with me. I used to have wifi issues after the TW update. The first days with stock Android I dont remember a single day dropping my wifi connection, but after TW update I sometimes picked my Tab to see "no internet connection". After 3.2 update it is just always on. I am quite happy with this update. If I ever see a drop in connection it is %100 router related which sometimes confuses and tries to assign the same the IP address to 2 different devices.
