>> Read the guide carefully and step-by-step! All text in BOLD and ITALICS are important! Please, read it step by step before asking questions..
Files required:
----------------------------------------
1) Base 9.2 Odin ROM
http://www.multiupload.com/TGDI86J3ZF (OPTIONAL: For Part 1 only)
This contains the BASE 9.2 ROM, ODIN and the PIT file. Be sure to use ODIN and the PIT file from this package. Unpack contents of this file to a folder.
2) Darkyy's 9.5 Extreme CAPTIVATE Edition
http://www.multiupload.com/H4RWN198MH
This is the CWM for the Darkyy's 9.5 Extreme Edition for CAPTIVATE ONLY
Please flash using PART 2!
Please refer to the next Post for the Changelogs!!
----------------------------------------------------
Pre-Installation Requirements:
1. Backup your data! Use an app like Titanium Backup, My Backup, App Saver, SMS Backup (to save SMS), etc.
2. Disable all lagfixes by going into the Recovery. Disable both normal and /system lagfixes. This is a must for installing PART 1.
Those who are on stock Samsung firmware/have never installed a custom kernel, can skip this step.
Here's a tutorial to disabling lagfix:
Boot into Recovery and then:
For Speedmod kernel, go into ‘advanced Speedmod ULK features’>’LAGFIX options’, then do the following:
1. Select ‘Disable Lagfix: Convert DATA to RFS’.
2. Select ‘Convert SYSTEM to Ext4/RFS’ and then select Yes.
3. Now select ‘Go Back’ twice, and then select ‘Reboot system now’ to reboot your phone.
4. You will then get a screen saying ‘SYSTEM Conversion requested’. Here, select the option ‘RFS: Convert to RFS’.
5. The phone will again reboot after a little while and say ‘New filesystem config detected. Convert?’ Select Yes.
6. Your lagfixes will now be disabled and your phone will reboot.
Instructions
These are divided into two parts:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 1 (Flashing the base ROM 9.2):
THIS PART IS OPTIONAL ONLY IF YOU ARE BRAVE ENOUGH Those who just want to install the CWM zip using darky app can skip this part. This part is for people coming from different bases and to prevent issues when flashing from Part2.
1. Again, a reminder. Backup all your stuff before starting.
2. Wipe/Factory Reset phone. This is required. Turn off phone and then boot into Recovery (Vol UP+Vol Down+ Power Button, then release power while still holding the Vol Up + Down after 2 seconds). Select the 'wipe data/factory reset' option (using Power button if on custom ROM/custom kernel). Then select Yes to do it.
DO A MASTER CLEAR IF POSSIBLE!!
3. Now Run ODIN and connect one end of USB to the computer.
4. Turn off your phone by removing the battery and enter the Download mode by pressing the Vol Up + DOWN and inserting the other end of the USB cord. (Will bring up a screen saying 'Downloading'.) ODIN in computer will say 'Added'.
5. Tick the 'Repartition' option, and then select the following files in ODIN (from the folder you extracted the base package in):
PDA: darky_odin.tar.md5
PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
6. Press the Start button and wait for it to finish. Once it finishes, ODIN will look like this.
Disconnect the phone from the computer after phone reboots.
7. After ODIN completes procedure and the phone reboots, a screen will come on the phone with 'Android system recovery <2e>' written at the top, and the following text will be written at the bottom:
"E:Invalid command argument
--Install from package--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Muti CSC...
Installing Muti CSC"
Don't panic. Remove battery, Reinsert and Power up!!! And then click reboot.
Congratulations, you have the base Darky's ROM 9.2 installed now.
Now for the next PART.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 2 (Flashing DARKYY's 9.5 CWM zip)
1. Copy the CWM zip to your internal sd-card.
2. Flash a Captivate Kernel and Modem using the links provided at the end. Plz post if you need help in this step. (Optional)
3. Open the Market, and search for 'darky' and download the DarkyROM Configurator App and install it.
4. After it is installed, open Darky ROM from the App Menu. Select all the options that you want to install, and deselect the ones you don't want.
SELECT WIPE!!!. This does not wipe your internal SD.
Use Skip Modem and Skip Kernel to use existing modem and kernel. For any other option selected, JQ1 Modem and Speedmod K13D Kernel will be installed.
Do not choose Lockscreen Wallpaper as this may lead to battery drain.
5. After selecting and deselecting the options according to your needs, Press Menu -> Select Zip and FlashReboot.
6. Select Darkys_v9.5_Cappy.zip from your internal sdcard (wherever you have saved it)!!
7. Once the phone boots, you will have everything that you selected in the DarkyROM Configurator. The initial boot time will take some time. This is completely normal (it will show the boot animation). Plz wait for it to complete.
8. That's it. The procedure is complete.
Enjoy the ROM!
PS: Any help needed with installation, using this guide, or using Odin or ADB, please post in forum!

CHANGING AT&T BOOT LOGO!!!! (INITIAL STATIC SCREEN)
This replaces the AT&T boot logo static that is displayed with a customized logo. Do this if you do Part 1. Not tested without Part 1.
Download the attachment file logo_ATNT.jpg This is what your AT&T boot logo is gonna be.. You can edit this, add your own.. But make sure that the name stays the same.
Using ADB tools from PC,
1. Put your logo_ATNT.jpg in the folder where adb.exe exists.
2. In command prompt, adb devices to make sure your phone is connected.
3. adb push logo_ATNT.jpg /mnt/.lfs
4. adb reboot
AND THAT'S IT!! You'll now have your own customized AT&T logo on your phone!!!

ARABIC PATCH - v9.3 and above (Not tested by me)
Full credits go to madmack for this Arabic Patch.
Download [CWM zip Package] http://www.multiupload.com/3WIRIBARMZ
Steps to apply the patch:
Download the patch and extract it to a folder on your computer.
Pull /system/framework/framework.jar from your phone and place it in the subfolder framework that you extracted in step 1
Double click on commands.exe. Do not close the black cmd screens that will pop up. Once the patch is done, you should get a patched framework.jar in the subfolder generated
Verify that the generated framework.jar is bigger than the original framework.jar that you pulled from your device. It should be about 1MB larger.
Place the generated framework.jar in your phone in /system/framework and reboot.
Aljazeera fonts also included in subfolder fonts. You can place these in /system/fonts and reboot
Sometimes permissions and xml data doesn’t get updated correctly resulting in corrupted data entries. If you receive a bunch of Force Closes after a reboot, you’ll need to Factory Reset.

Yeah, I kind of stopped posting about the Darky rom... Oh well. I'm working on two different things right now, one of which might cause thermonuclear war, fry your sd card, and get you fired because your alarm didn't turn on on time.

Only one little detail that I'm pretty sure you know about.
When you boot, a screen with random dots pops up for a couple seconds before the bootscreen shows up.
Nothing really major, but just making sure you know about it..
Thanks for the awesome ROM!

Sweet! I'm currently running Calkulins plus your V9 kernel and was getting ready to deal with the additions you just made standard! Awesome timing! Can I just clear Cache & Dalvik and then flash (& fix permissions) or would you recommend the full blown Format All then flash?
I am using a very similar combo and it is very stable it will be nice to have it all in one zip. Many thanks.
Can anyone download the file? I can't seem to.
Nevermind, finally got it.
Will Hulu still work in this build?
Yepper HULU works GREAT!!!
I don't know if this is a bug, but I installed thumb keyboard. I go into the keyboard options and try to check the thumb keyboard but it doesn't do anything. Then I try to go into input method, but it doesn't show up there ether.
I've enjoyed your kernel work in the short time I've had my G-Tab. Does this mean you're done w/ the G-Tab kernel making game since it sounds like you'll be returning your G-Tab?
Runs great, thanks.
Any way to add wpa2 enterprise support or get the normal android settings app?
CLEMSYN DON'T RETURN YOUR G TABLET!!!
haha thanks for all your work and the great kernels you made.. We will miss you here!

You have to copy the apk over to system/app folder. You'll need root explorer or something similar.
Thank you in advance for your work. I'm waiting for gTablet I just ordered yesterday from Woot. Hopefully it will show up next few weeks.
Ran this ok for half the day, then pressed power in attempt to wake from sleep and it rebooted. Now it's stuck on the honeycomb boot animation. Any ideas?

Try going to recovery mode and wipe cache, the clear Dalvik-cache (it's under Advance). Then fix permissions (Also under Advance) then reboot. Hope that helps.
Thanks....i ended up reflashing using the regular clockwork....i was using the .8 clockwork previously. That was wrong right?

I was wondering the same thing as the poster you replied to. I will get root explorer, but where would we find the thumb keyboard that I attempted to install (paid for it). Which folder? Thanks in advance.
With root explorer, go into data/apps and copy the thumb keyboard apk. Now back out and go into system/apps. Make sure you select mount R/W at the top of the screen. Now paste the apk in this folder. Reboot. Now just long press in a text box and choose thumb keyboard in the input method.

I found a easy way to do it! Using CWM install replace tnt settings zip. reboot! you should have your old settings menu now. Then change the keyboard. Go back to CWM and flash rollback tnt settings zip. Reboot! Now your done!
:I suggest you use rollback because some widgets and stuff dont work with the replacement zip:

What do these two do?
I thought I would write this guide to help people who are having trouble with getting ICS to work reliably on their Galaxy Note. This guide is fairly beginner friendly but I do recommend that you quickly go through this once before you start. Also, this is a 'risk free' way of trying the ICS leak. You just need to have a nandroid backup from your current clockworkmod (or red-pill recovery) to try this out. If you do not like it, instructions are included on how to restore back to your Ginger Bread ROM. Hit the THANKS button if this helps. Happy Flashing!
Edit. CLICK HERE for my earlier thread demoing ICS on the Note. It has 3 videos that add up to 40 mins.
Edit 2. In case you have any trouble with the ROM and want to get back, I have now included a 'Getting back to your old Ginger Bread ROM' section in the end thanks to chasmodo. I do suggest that you read through for some user reports or better yet, try it yourself!
Edit 3. The guide now includes instructions to get TeamRocketROM ICS and criskelo's ICS ROM. I have had mixed results with these two ROMs. But feel free to try them out and see if they will work well for you. You will HAVE to install the CF repack ICS to be able to install other ICS ROMs. So follow the steps from section (2) until step 10 and choose either Section (4A) or (4B). A shout out to TeamRocket and criskelo. Original Thread for TeamRocketROM and Original Thread for criskeloROM.
Edit 4. MediaFire links for the essential files are now up. They are split into 200mb rar files. You will need WinRAR to extract them.

****ONLY IF YOU WANT CRISKELO ROM******
1) Criskelo's ICS beta 1 ROM CLICK HERE | MIRROR2 | MIRROR3
Section (2) : Chainfire's ICS repack installation.
1) Your current firmware does not matter. It could be stock, stock & rooted, newer stock & ever-rooted, sammobile ICS, whatever. It's OK even if you're in a boot-loop or plain brick. It does not matter. But be prepared to loose all your app data and also maybe the files on the INTERNAL sd of the phone. This is MEANT as a clean, fresh install. Although you will get back most of the essential stuff once you logon to you google account on the new ICS.
2) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ATLEAST 50% CHARGE.
3) Extract the file named " N7000XXKKA_N7000OXXKK5_AUT.rar". You will find three files there, .DLL, .TAR.MD5, .ZIP. Extract the zip file. Right click on 'Odin3 v1.85.exe' and click 'Run as administrator'.
4) Now you need to put your phone in Download mode. Turn off your phone if it is on. Hold volume down, home and power together and keep holding them until you see a screen that says Warning on top with a yellow warning symbol. As soon as you see the screen, you need to push the volume UP button to get into download mode. If you miss it, try holding down the three buttons and repeat. The download screen has an android with 'Downloading...' written in the bottom.
5) Now that you are in download mode, go ahead and connect the Note to your computer. If you installed Kies correctly, it will install the drivers for the new hardware and say that the device is ready for use. Now, on the ODIN screen you should see "Added" in the 'Message' window on the left. Now, click the "PDA" button and select the file that ended with .TAR.MD5. Make sure ONLY "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked. Say start and the flashing should begin. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED.
6) Once the flashing ends, your phone will reboot. Give it upto 5 minutes because it is the first boot. If it is stuck in a boot loop (or if things are force closing on the setup screen), hold down volume UP, home and power button together until you get into the recovery menu. Navigate the recovery using volume and home buttons. Now select the "Wipe data/Factory Reset option", select the Yes option and proceed to wipe the phone. Once done, select the reboot option and your phone should turn on now. Do not setup any accounts and just click through the setup screens. Reboot the phone.
7) Now you have a nice clean stock ROM. We will proceed with the rooting now. Go to settings and 'Applications' and enable 'Unknown sources', then go to 'Development' and enable "USB debugging". Now extract the file " InitialCFRootFlasherKKA". You will see a "not-rooted-yet.bat". Right click and run as administrator. Click enter to continue and now it should say "--- STARTING ---" and "found a samsung" and all that. If you get to the part where it tells you that it is going to flash the cf-root kernel too fast, the adb server probably failed to start. So, you need to close the bat file and run it again as admin. If everything goes right you should see the zergRush exploit in action and after some time it will tell you that it will attempt to flash cf-root kernel. Hit enter, it will flash the kernel and reboot. Congratulations, you now have root and clockworkmod.
7b) PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP (optional but recommeded) : Turn your phone off. Hold volume UP, menu and power until you reboot into clockworkmod recovery. Go to 'backup and restore' and select backup. Clockworkmod will now create a nandroid backup of your rooted GB rom. So if you decide to g back to GB or try out different ICS roms, this will be really helpful.
8) Now we need to install Mobile ODIN Lite. Extract the file "Mobile_ODIN_Lite_GTN7000". You will see two apks. Now extract "CF_ICS_REPACK_GAPPS_INCL". You will see a .TAR and .ZIP. DO NOT EXTRACT ANY OF THESE FILES. Transfer all these files to your sd card using USB. You can go to 'Wireless and network' menu in settings and then 'USB utilities' to enable mass storage.
9) Using the included 'My Files' app, navigate to the apks. (Note. If you put your files in the external sd there is a folde called "external_sd" in My Files to take you there.) Install " MobileODINLite-v2.15" and then install " MobileODIN_FlashKernel_N7000-v2.0". Now launch Mobile ODIN. It should ask for su permissions and select "Allow" make sure the "remember" option is checked. Select 'Open file' and navigate to wherever you put the "I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar" file transferred earlier. It should say that it has loaded the file. You will notice the 'Modem' and 'Param' fields are empty, that is fine. Scroll down to 'Flash firmware' and select 'Continue'. Mobile ODIN will boot into recovery and proceed with the flashing. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED.
### OPTIONAL STEP *ONLY* FOR ROCKETROM/CRISKELO-ROM : Once the flashing is complete, it will take you to clockworkmod. Perform a 'wipe data/factory reset'. Reboot. *SKIP TO SECTION 4A/4B* for further instructions.
10) Once the flashing is complete, it will take you to clockworkmod. DO NOT REBOOT. Navigate the recovery using volume and home buttons. Select 'Install zip from sdcard' and then 'choose zip from sdcard', navigate to 'gappsv7.1.zip.' Proceed to install the zip. Navigate back to main menu and select 'wipe data/factory reset' and say yes. Now select 'reboot system now'.
11) You should now have a stable, rooted ICS. BUT we need to get rid of all the bloatware before we can proceed. There is no set up screen. If your screen in all black when it boots up, that is fine. Reboot the phone. Reboot it again, just to be sure. Get Titanium Backup free either with market, or with the apk. You will need to set up your google account before you can download through market. Once you have Titanium Backup, the clean up begins. You will need to enable 'Unknown sources' under 'Security' and 'USB debugging' under 'Development' before you can use Titanium Backup.
12) Launch Titanium Backup it will ask for root and allow it. Click through the popups. Click the Backup/Restore tab. We begin from all the way dowm, so scroll down all the way. You can uninstall an app by clicking on the app and selecting "Un-install !" option. Click OK on any warnings you will see. Below is a list with the apps that I personally like to remove. It includes the "Samsung Hubs" because they mostly serve Chinese content.
Section (3) : The Bloatware list
-Two apps with Chinese characters at the very bottom.

That's it! Restart your Note and you should have a great, fully-functional ICS ROM! This procedure has been thoroughly tested by me and works every time. ALSO scroll down to check out the recommended apps for better functionality.
Section (4A) : TeamRocketROM ICS installation
****THIS SECTION IS TO BE FOLLOWED ONLY IF YOU WANT TEAMROCKETROM******
1) Once you are done with step 10 from Section (2) you should have the CF repack which forms the base for a lot of other ICS ROMs out there. So you absolutely NEED the cf repack running. If you don;t have it, go back to Section (2) and follow steps from 1 through 10.
2) Transfer the files "TeamRocketRom_ICS_Notev1.4_beta", "TeamRocketRom_ICS_Notev1.5_beta" and "Reworked_15ToggleBar_for_TeamRocketROM_v1.5" to you internal or micro sd. DO NOT UNZIP THEM. Turn off your phone and hold down volume UP, menu and power until you boot into clockworkmod recovery.
3) Now you need to perform a full wipe. Select "wipe data/factory reset" and yes. Now select "wipe cache" and select Yes. Go to advanced > Wipe dalvik cahe > Yes. Select back to go back to main menu.
4) Select "install zip from sd card" > choose zip from sd card > now navigate to the "TeamRocketRom_ICS_Notev1.4_beta" file. Remember it is *1.4*. Slect the file and proceed to flashing. After it is done flashing, perform a full wipe like we did in step 3 (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cahe). THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL.
5) Once you are done performing the full wipe, go back to the main menu and hit "reboot system now". The phone will reboot, give it some time. Once it is up and running, quickly setup your google account.
6) Now turn the phone off and hold voulume UP, menu and power to get into cwm. Select "install zip from sdcard" > choose zip from sd card > now select "TeamRocketRom_ICS_Notev1.5_beta". Remember, THIS TIME IT IS V1.5. After it is done flashing, do not do any wipes. Go back to main menu and reboot the system.
7) Wait till the phone boots, it will take some time. Go settings and about to verify that you are running RocketROM v1.5. Now, for the final part.
8) Turn off your phone and hold down volume UP, menu and power until you boot into clockworkmod recovery. Select "instll zip from sd card" > "choose zip from sd card" > now select the "Reworked_15ToggleBar_for_TeamRocketROM_v1.5" zip file and let install. Once done, don't wipe anything. Go back to main menu and reboot system. Congrats! You are now running TeamRocketROM ICS v1.5.
Section (4B) : criskelo ROM ICS installation
****THIS SECTION IS TO BE FOLLOWED ONLY IF YOU WANT CRISKELO ROM******
1) Once you are done with step 10 from Section (2) you should have the CF repack which forms the base for a lot of other ICS ROMs out there. So you absolutely NEED the cf repack running. If you don;t have it, go back to Section (2) and follow steps from 1 through 10.
2) Transfer the file "CriskeloRomNOTE.vICS-V1-Beta1-MD5-79520216F3E0F9D0DC5F87EB82EBB143" to your internal / micro sd. DO NOT UNZIP.
Select back to go back to main menu
4) Select "install zip from sd card" > choose zip from sd card > now navigate to "CriskeloRomNOTE.vICS-V1-Beta1-MD5-79520216F3E0F9D0DC5F87EB82EBB143". Select file and proceed with installation.
5) After it is done flashing, perform a full wipe like we did in step 3 (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cahe), just to be sure. Go back to main menu and select reboot system now. Enjoy your criskelo ROM!
Section (5) : Getting back to your old Ginger Bread ROM :
If your having troubles and want to go back to your old GB ROM, this is how you restore. Credits to chasmodo for the instructions.
1. download AbyssNote 3.9 kernel from HERE | MIRROR. It's a flashable zip.
2. put this zip on your SD Card before you try to restore your previous system
3. when you want to restore, power off your phone
4. boot into recovery (Volume up + Home + Power)
5. chose 'install zip from SD Card'
6. navigate to your Abyss kernel zip and flash it
7. go back to the Recovery start menu
8. go to advanced/reboot recovery <--- this will reboot the phone directly to recovery
9. you will discover that you now have Hyperdroid Redpill Recovery - it comes with the Abyss kernel - it's pretty much the same thing as CWMR
10. wipe cache, dalvik, do your factory reset
11. start your restore, and it will work.
Section (6) : Recommended apps
- Go Keyboard - Great, highly customizable keyboard. Includes emoji, touch tone keypad, smileys and themes. Does not lag.
- Nova Launcher - Awesome launcher meant ONLY for ICS. Highly customizable with stock ICS look and feel. Very stable too. Includes persistent search bar, dock pages, etc. Original thread HERE.
- Winamp - Really good music player with great navigation and a good looking widget. Also includes lock-screen integration.
- Airdroid - This app is must have for anyone who want to sync their phone wirelessly over wifi. Free and awesome.
- MX Video - Excellent video player. Essential for this ROM because stock player does not function. Has great gesture controls and plays almost anything you throw at it.
- ROM Manager - ONLY IF you are having trouble with force closing apps and general freezes, get ROM Manager and run 'Fix permissions'. I recommend that you do not mess with any other option on ROM Manager unless you know what you're doing.
Section (7) : Tips, tricks and troubleshooting
-- 14 Button Toggle Bar : This is a very nifty little UI tweak by Chris X.. Original post here. It is basically a really cool looking Notification bar with a lot of toggles. I have included a screenshot below. This tweak also works on criskelo ROM. I haven't tested it with chainfire repack, but you are free to give it a try. CLICK HERE to download.
-- Get stock ICS icons for CF repack (Nova Launcher) :
For ICS icons on your Homescreen, download "Ice Cream Sandwich (theme)" by kovdev from Market. Now go back to your Nova Launcher homescreen, tap and hold the icon you want to change and hit edit. Now click on the icon, select "ADW Icon Pack" and proceed to select the appropriate icon. However, the icon will only change on the homescreen and not the app drawer.
-- SoD & Freezes : If you are getting random freezes and/or Screen of Death issues, remove your SIM and microsd, transfer all the required files to internal memory and start over. You can also try using clockworkmod or ROM manager to fix permissions.
Hit the Thanks button if this helps at all. All credit goes to everyone who deserves it. Especially Chainfire. And remember, hit the Thanks if it helps. Good day.

Yes. I assume you're already rooted? So you can just start from step 8. If you have a good baseband from Romow, I think you will be just fine.

Do I need to install MobileODIN_FlashKernel_N7000-v2.0 ?
And I have stock KK5 rooted, that means I can start from step 8 ?
edit: just read the official Mobile Odin page here, and the last sentence states that only Lite users have to manually download flashkernel

Did you make a backup in cwm by any chance? If you didn't, you might just wanna start from step 1 again. Trust me, it wont take long now that you have done it once. I did the whole thing over just to write the guide. Took me about 30 minutes.
Edit. Hold on a sec! Did you say you just 'installed' the keyboard? Through market, right? If you did it by market and do not alter any system files with clockworkmod or root explorer then, you can boot into cwm by volume up, home and power and wipe your device. Everything should be back to normal after that. You won't lose root.
is there no way i can download any keyboards apks? i just need it so that i can sign onto my gmail account?

Yeah, it's a great keyboard. I have reduced the height of the keys by one unit in both portrait and landscape. I also have the emoji plugin, which is kinda cool. 0_o
Fail, I liked the new Gmail, but everything seemed so big, since I got used to 240 dpi, downloaded DPI Changer from Market, decreased DPI, and after that I couldn't boot
So I had to flash stock rom using Odin, and start over ...
Now I've just rooted stock rom, and waiting for battery to charge over 50%, since all these flashing and rooting sucked most of the juice out of it
Btw, the best keyboard in my opinion is "Thumb Keyboard"
So you're saying it's FULLY FUNCTIONAL? As in everything works just as well or close to the stock rom? Then no need for me to wait for the official release from Samsung?
If so, I'll do it baby.
I am amazed how smooth this rom is
So far its stable, we will see that in few days

[GUIDE/TUTORIAL] Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 Any version to Android 6
[GUIDE/TUTORIAL/HOWTO] Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000 galaxysmtd) stock to Android 6 Marshmallow
This detailed step-by-step guide helps you transform your Samsung Galaxy S I9000 to a more recent one with Android 6.
Make sure your phone is i9000 before going further: when you Power on phone, it is written Galaxy S.
and Go to Settings > About phone > Model number is GT-I9000.
### If Model number is not GT-I9000, quit this tutorial.
Check Android version: right below Model number, you have Firmware version.
If Android is 2.2 or below, follow this tutorial entirely.
If Android is 2.3.x, you can skip step 3)
Back to top of the same About phone menu: tap on System updates to check for an official update.
CHANGELOG OF TUTORIAL
v2. Minor improvements. Bought another i9000 to try whole tutorial again.
v1. Initial release
1) DOWNLOAD
### All you need to upgrade to Android 6 is in my pack. However, Android versions above 4.4 are very slow on Galaxy S (unusable for calls and messages)
### You can easily try Android 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 and come back to 4.4 though.

- Charge phone to 100%
2) DESIMLOCK/DEBRAND/UNLOCK i9000
First, we want to make sure phone is not locked.
On your phone, open the dialer (as if you wanted to call a phone number) and type these keys:
Code:
*#7465625#
Phone returns this message:
Network Lock
[ON]
Follow my tutorial here before going further: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/general/guide-tutorial-howto-unlock-debrand-t4053109
If Network Lock is [OFF]. Go to next chapter.
3) BACKUP DATA
Install Samsung drivers (you unzipped earlier).
Then plug phone to PC in File transfer mode.
Collect all .jpg or .mp4 (particularly in DCIM folder).
Make sure your Google Account is synchronised.
Use an app like Backupyourmobile or SMS Backup & Restore to backup texts, contacts, etc.
Check that backup is located on microSD card.
Then copy the backup on your PC.
4) FLASH LATEST STOCK ANDROID 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD
### This step is only required if your phone is blocked on Android 2.1 Eclair or 2.2 Froyo (no more recent official update).
If you are already on 2.3.x Gingerbread, move on to next chapter.
You will lose all the data stored on phone.
Shutdown phone.
Boot phone in Download mode: Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume down until Droid logi is shown and release the buttons.
You see a Droid logo with "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!" message (video here if my explanation isn't clear:
)
On PC, launch Odin with Administrator privileges (you unziped it from my pack, in the Flash folder). Select Odin.exe > right click > Run as administrator
In Odin's main window, check all 3 checkboxes: Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time. Leave other checkboxes unchecked.
### Select PDA, PHONE and CSC files from the GT_I9000_XWJW5_XXJW4_OXXJVC_Sbl folder of my pack.
In PIT > select s1_odin_20100512.pit file
PDA > select PDA_XWJW5_Sbl.tar.md5
PHONE > select PHONE_XXJW4.tar.md5
CSC > select CSC_OXXJVC.tar.md5
Connect phone to USB.
ID:COM state becomes yellow.
Click Start
### ID:COM is not yellow: Try another USB port and/or another USB cable. Or another PC.
### Let flash proceed, don't touch anything, flash will last for 2min30.
Let phone autorestart.
Skip Android setup.
###### At any time, if your phone isn't working properly (bricked, bootloop), you can start fresh from this step.
5) FLASH NEW KERNEL + CWM RECOVERY
### Join us here if you your phone was already Android 2.3.x Gingerbread
Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Switch USB debugging ON.
Power off phone. Unplug phone from USB (if it was).
Run Odin as Administrator.
In Odin main window, check ONLY F. Reset Time checkbox. All other checkboxes must be unchecked.
In PDA > select CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar
Boot phone in Download mode: Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume- until Droid logo is shown.
Connect phone to USB.
When ID:COM is yellow, click Start.
Wait until PASS! message shows up in Odin.
Disconnect phone.
We now want to enter in ClockWorkMod Recovery v3:
Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume down until phone is shut...
THEN immediately move finger from Volume down to Volume up while holding Power + Home until Samsung logo shows up and release 3 buttons.
### If Android starts to load, just keep pressed on Power + Home + Volume+ until phone restarts and Samsung logo starts showing again.
6) FORMAT PARTITIONS AND INSTALL ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT / LINEAGEOS 11
Navigation within CWM recovery:
- Volume up: move up selection
- Volume down: move down selection
- Home: confirm selection
- Power: back to previous menu
Use Volume down to select wipe data/factory reset and confirm with Home.
On next screen, use volume- to select Yes -- delete all user data. Confirm with Home
Then repeat the operation to wipe cache partition.
Finally, go to mounts and storage and format /system.
Now select "mount USB storage" (still in mounts and storage).
Connect to PC, Galaxy S is detected as USB drive.
From Windows explorer, copy all files from my ROMs folder + Google Apps zip on phone's internal memory.
Once finished, safely remove device from Windows, then unmount from phone and unplug phone from USB.
Go back to CWM home menu and navigate to > install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > lineage-11*.zip and confirm install
Phone flashes and reboots in CWM recovery 6.0.5.1
### You now use Power to confirm actions within CWM 6 recovery.
Chose Install zip and confirm with Power this time.
choose zip from /storage/sdcard0 and confirm with Power
Select lineage-11*.zip and confirm flash. Wait
When finished, go back to CWM main menu.
Install zip of OpenGapps Pico 4.4 as described above.
Then reboot system now, Cyanogenmod 11/Android 4.4 loads.
Skip Android setup (if you want Android > 4.4, even though not recommended for performance reasons).
7) INSTALL ANDROID 5.1 LOLLIPOP
Shutdown phone.
Restart to recovery
Repeat same steps to install omni-5.1.1*.zip (wipe data/factory reset + Install zip)
Wait during boot.
Power off phone again, back to recovery.
8) INSTALL ANDROID 6 MARSHMALLOW
Recovery is now TWRP 2.8.7.0.
Check Never show this screen during boot again and Swipe to Allow Modifications.
Go to Wipe > Advanced wipe and select Dalvik, Cache, Data and System partitions. Swipe to Wipe.
Now go to Install > select Full+Advance-6.0.1-20160919*.zip and Swipe to Confirm Flash.
It is very long. When finished, tap on Back icon (bottom right of screen).
Tap on open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico*.zip and Swipe to Confirm Flash
Wipe cache/dalvik > Reboot system
Setup Android 6.
Enjoy.

Hi, does it work? Am I the first here, where are the others?
---------- Post added at 07:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 PM ----------
Why is it necessary to install Android 5 bevor Android 6 ?
Hi,
seems clear enough to have 0 reactions
Yes you have to move forward slowly and install versions on top.
I would stick to 4.4 though (for fluidity)
I tried this way, and it seems to work. What do You think about?
Basis
S1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 + CF-Root
on internal SDCard CM 13.zip
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/i9000-development/rombeta-cyanogenmod-13-0-t3343471
Installation
CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5
• 1. install zip from sd card – don´t reboot
• 2. again install zip from sd card
=> TWRP 3.0.2-0 appears
Status Quo:
SDCard = vfat
Data = auto
Cache = yaffs2
System = ext4
....................................................................................the following steps maybe were wrong or unnecessary?
• Reboot to system
=> Installation starts
=> TWRP Menue appears
• Mount SDCard
• Installation CM 13
=> Failed to mount data
• wipe data ext2
=> stopped
• Reboot in Recovery
...............................................................................................................................................................................
• wipe data → Ext2 → failed
• wipe data → Repair file system => OK
• wipe data → Ext2 => OK
• wipe date → Ext4 => OK
....................................................................................the following steps maybe were wrong or unnecessary?
• wipe data → f2fs => OK
• Dalvik + cache WIPE
• Reboot System
=> TWRP Menue
• wipe format System f2fs => OK (ROM probably can´t install on f2fs)
.....................................................................................................................................................
• Mount SDCard, Data, Cache
• Instal CM 13.zip - without Verficiation and without Reboot => DONE - don´t wipe
• Install CM 13.zip => now SU is installing => DONE
• Reboot System
=> CM 13 starts ..................................................................... Antutu 5.7.1 7760
Reboot to TWRP
Status Quo:
data = f2fs
system = ext4
sdcard = vfat
cache = yaffs2
• wipe sdcard to f2fs = > OK
• cache to ext3 (unnecessary because changes automatically back to yaffs2)
• reboot to system
=> CM 13 starts ........................................................................................ Antutu 5.7.1 9500

i´m now trying Your Way. However would You like to give some Feedback? I have no experience in Android and i´am just trying like a monkey.
Thanks. Chris

Hi Chris,
I bought another stock and simlocked SGS to test again.
Whole tutorial went on very easily.
Especially when you know that going above Android 4.4 is crazy.
Wonderful tutorial! Pulled out my old phone and it’s happily running 4.4!! Now if I could get Magisk to figure out how to work with this, then I would be overjoyed.

You may try to
Download Magisk https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases
Rename .apk to .zip
Reboot to Recovery
Flash zip
Tell us if it worked

I already have the flushable .zip — here is the message I am getting (ignore the /data thing - that was resolved - message happens anyway)
Also here is a picture of what I get with SuperSU flushable from ChainFire in case that helps anyone figure out what’s up.
Yes I think the phone has a weird boot sequence and cannot be flashed like this. Sorry I don't have time to look into it.
Somewhere on XDA ?
That is actually very well explained. If, like me, you only have Linux and can't use Odin, you can extract zimage from CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar and use heimdall to flash:
heimdall flash --KERNEL ./zImage --no-reboot
can we install any newer custom ROM above android 7?

You won't be able.
This is the end.
