I can't figure out how to configure openvpn on my droid. The only VPN option that I would like to use is Openvpn (SSL), but I can't figure out how to load the user and CA certificates... I don't even know if this is the correct option for an OpenVPN connection.
Has anyone figured this out?

just thought I would share my experiences. I need 24x7 access to my work network as I am one of the system admins...searching the internet I found what seemed to be just about the only one around...anthasoft vpn..downloaded the trial and I just couldnt get it to connect, not to mention whenever i had the program installed it killed my t-mobile data GPRS data connection....so i uninstalled it and stumbled upon Bluefire Mobile VPN
http://www.bluefiresecurity.com/products/vpn/
They have a free 14 day trial that installed and connects perfectly over gprs or wifi to my company network! I use it in conjunction with Mochasoft TN5250 for as/400 access and Jetcet print for a wireless connection with printing anywhere on the go
OpenVPN is free...
I use OpenVPN and it's great. It also completely free. For more information go to http://ovpnppc.ziggurat29.com/ovpnppc-main.htm. The one downside to openvpn is that it requires some knowledge to make it work; you need to know how to create and sign certificates in OpenSSL. There's a tutorial at the main OpenVPN site at openvpn.sf.net. With this, I can't understand why anyone would want to pay for a VPN solution. If you've got the technical knowledge, it's a no-brainer.
...but it doesn't work with Cisco vpn.
OpenVPN that is. Bluefire works perfectly with our corporate Cisco VPN. Which for me is a must have.
Well, obviously...
Of course you have to use the correct VPN client to connect to your VPN server. But if I have a choice about which VPN solution to set up, I'll choose OpenVPN for its cost-effectiveness.
likewise we have a cisco vpn here at our auction, so Bluefire was a must!
Just picked up a G1, nice condition cheap and looking to get openvpn running on it.
The howtos are sparse however, not to mention vague.
I rooted the phone and I'm just running a 1.6 rooted rom, I don't need froyo right now.
The firewall on the asterisk server only allows connections from a local network and an openvpn server ip's so I really need to get a openvpn client installed.
Can anybody point me in the right direction to get openvpn running with a tap interface?
Much appreciated.
Bumppp, Nobody?
Hey All,
I got my Xoom this morning as well. Love it so far! The Widgets blow the Ipad out of the water. However, I am trying to get VPN to work. Anybody know if there is a native VPN client or anything we can install from the Market? I know there are issues with Cisco VPN on Android 2.x but wondered if that might have been fixed in 3.0?
None that I'm aware of. Doubt this will work until we get a tun.ko module for it, then we can use VPNConnections.apk like other handsets.
There is a built-in VPN client. Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> VPN Settings and add a VPN from there. Your standard PPTP, L2TP, and L2TP/IPSec options are available.
Hi all,
I have been tinkering with connectivity into my corporate network and so far been able to get a connection to our Office Communicator server via ASProxy and a secure wireless connection. However I am looking for a solution that works across my 3G connection via a VPN.
I have looked at the market place versions of OpenVpn and I cannot get it to work with our Cisco Gateway. I got stuck at the tun and adb part, so not sure what I need to do at this point so though I would ask the experts on here ;-) There has been much work on a very important missing part which was a user authentication proxy, so the next bit for me would be a means of connecting to an IPSec/UDP Cisco VPN Gateway that works with my Domain username and then a fob generated password.
Any help from you guys would be most appreciated and perhaps I can share my ASProxy configuration for anyone wishing to get their's working....
Thanks
Avalon
Hi,
you can't use an OpenVPN client to connect to a Cisco (IPsec) VPN server.
If you want to connect to an OpenVPN server then you can use OpenVPN Installer and OpenVPN Settings from the market.
If you want to connect to an IPsec server then use the built-in android VPN client or even some proprietary Cisco client from the market... (don't know about these as I only use OpenVPN)
Hi, thanks for the reply, however the built in VPN client will not work with our server. There is a Cisco anyconnect client that does connect, but we need a license for it which we dont currently have.
I will keep trying....
Hello Gent and Lady SATV Enthusiasts,
I need a little assistance setting up a VPN on my beloved SATV. Searching through various forums, I understand that a number of users have had success using either OpenVPN for Android or Open VPN Client "Free" installed via sideloading.
I would like to get either up and running if possible with the VPN service Pirvate Internet Access. When using OpenVPN the program, I am able to create a new profile and select username/password authentication. However, when I attempt to "select" my CA Certificate, I get an error pop-up that says, "You don't have an app that can do this." A bit curious, as I thought that OpenVPN for Android would be able to do it itself. For those of you who were able to select your CA Certificate, did you have some other program also installed on your SATV? Or was there another trick to it?
As for OpenVPN Client "Free" I was able to complete the setup. However, when connecting, it would briefly connect, then go through a loop of reconnecting, authenticating, reconnecting, authenticating, etc.
If anyone can offer some help on the matter, I would be greatly obliged. Thank you!
For the openvpn client free, are you using Ethernet by chance? It will continually connect and reconnect if you do. It only works right on Wi-Fi, I think the app was built assuming there would be no wired connection.
With openvpn for Android, I haven't used it, but someone else said they used es file explorer to select the cert and selected the app to open with.
