[Q] Light weight rom - G2 and Desire Z General

Hello
Im new user with desire Z and now im seeking light weight + stable + fast rom.
I managed to root my phone nicely and now im looking the ultimate rom for me.
Any suggestions?
-S

If you like the stock 2.2 sense-based rom, you can always go for a stripped and deodexed version, which will have more space and arguably be a bit quicker than your stock rooted rom.
You can also choose to go with CM6 or CM7, these are basically 2.2 (CM6) and 2.3 (CM7) on steroids, with tons of enhancements and they've trimmed the fat at the same time. CM7 is extremely fast in my experiences, but is not in its final stable mod yet. There has been 1 release candidate (RC1) and several nightlies since then that have been working just fine for me. Although everyone seems have their own little issues with them because after all they are experimental builds.
I'm partial to CyanogenMod because they've been making wonderful software for me since I started with Android last summer, and its always been great. I'm sure there are also some great sense-based ROMs out there (similar to stock DZ roms + enhancements), as well as MIUI ROMs, this is up to you on personal preference, but I've given my suggestions based on what I've used successfully.

Read and experiment. =) I'm partial to CM, as I don't like sense, but that's me. You may find you like sense. Root + eng hboot + Clockwork pretty much sets yu up for fairly easy, pain free rom changes.

If your looking for lightweight and fast, I feel its best to avoid sense. Vanilla roms are slightly quicker and cleaner in my experiance.

Agree that CM is all around faster and smoother than Sense based. I used the stock Sense ROM for about 2 months. Sense seems to use lots of CPU and RAM. I have been using CM7 (RC1) for about a week, and its much smoother and faster. In particular, the Sense homepage and launcher are very sluggish in comparison. I don't think you can call CM7 "lightweight", it has lots of features cooked in (and very cool ones, at that). But it certainly fits the stable and faster requests.

best dhd rom

Hey guys, what would the best rom be to load on the dhd as of today?
[ROM][PNK14] Occasional & funky CM7 (Gingerbread) builds by phunkycow
Its the most buggfree and fluid Gingerbread build.. Almost flawless and doesnt suffer the lagg issue other Gingerbread roms have
There isn't a best one. It comes down to personal taste. Right now I am liking leedroid although myself I have some technical problems with it. Many people are running it fine though. It's a heavily tweaked sense rom.
My other favourite at the moment is rcmixhd. Unlike leedroid it isn't tweaked much at all, you just get a very clean and stable sense build.
Cyanogenmod 7 shows much promise too although it's still in heavy development so even the above mentioned pnk build has some buggy behaviour such as the weird and broken video gallery. Within a few weeks it should be great though.
Cyanogenmod 6 is much more stable but I find the stock froyo copy paste just too annoying without a trackball. All cyanogenmod roms are like AOSP on steroids.

[Q] Various ROM testing: Daily stable builds

By "stable" I mean something that is used for more than a month as a daily work horse build. I've tested various roms trying to settle on ROM that I use for daily use. My requirements are thus: Decent battery life, no lag, full functionality, of course.
So, rom flashing/testing aside, which ROM do you folks seem to settle on when you aren't testing and want a daily work horse rom? I just can't settle on one for one reason or another. If it's not battery, it's lag or both. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a phone of this age, at this point. Last rom I used for the longest time was froydvillain before I started messing with the GB roms.
I dunno, what say you?
VR 13 works very well.
Maybe a GB ROM like Cronos would be good?

Vr13 is the 2.1 rom based on the WWE update, ya? Perhaps that one is best since it's based on official HTC release. Pity they never did a 2.2 update.
That's the one. I know, it would've been since.
2.1 repacked by elelinux or Cronos Ginger 2.2.3 this become update frequently by Feeyo
Cronos GB is a good choice indeed.
The Elelinux rom is very stable, I had some force closes with Villain ROM 13, and also with the Modaco one, no force close with Elelinux (base on Android 2.3.4).
If you don't want your phone to be laggy, try adw launcher with that (the faster I've used, even though I prefer Go launcher), don't use too many widget etc, keep it simple.
Cronos is indeed good, although he has recently moved away from CM sources. so that means you wouldn't get the set of Cyanogen specific enhancements. It will be pure AOSP + whatever modifications he made.

Best Stock Ginger ROm(rooted) your ideas

So yes this is my idea. I would like to get a colelctive together. Since it is hard to go through hundreds of pages. Trust me I ahve been reading like crazy and trying to find a good one. Well trying to find one that ha the potential to mature very well. :}
But for now what roms are you using? Any good/bad things to say about it?
There is the rom wiki that the devs should update, but don't really too much anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs
Now is this Gingerbread roms in general?
Ya know hell yea why not in general. not many stock rooted roms. When i say Stock rooted I am talkign about stock basee but with enhancements.
But any rom in general would be good. I am trying to get a feel for whats out there and dont have the time to flash a bunch of roms.
Right now, you have to think about what you want, exactly, because you have choices, so I'll try to outline some of the pluses and minuses.
AOSP. This would be CM7, and ROM's developed off of this build, ie, Destroyer, SalvageMod and Savaged-Zen for example.
The pluses, highly customizable, you can get excellent battery life with the custom AOSP Kernels, and pretty much everything works, and there are a lot of options for setting up your preferences.
The downside, well, not much of one, other than the Base ROM is pretty ugly, Flat looking, so if you like the polish of Sense, it's not here, but there ARE some good themes.
MIUI MIUI is kind've like having an Iphone, in how's user interface is setup, A LOT of customization options, good battery life and a great DEV community. Some things don't work though, like 4G and HDMI, is I remember correctly. To me, MIUI is like setting up Linux after having run Windows for many years.
The thing I don't like, is all the apps on the desktops. There are a ton of Youtube videos that you can use to see how it looks and works.
Froyo Based ROMS, are great because everything works, they're usually themed well and there are endless mods to customize how your setup looks, etc. You can get awesome battery life with the right kernel. Nice, stable, solid, good looking. I recommend Koni Elite III as I used that as a daily driver for a long time.
GB 2.3.3 ROMS. These are the newest ROMS there are, and are based off of the Evo Shift which has Sense UI 2.1, while the Evo is stuck with 1.0, so you have a lot of updated Sense Apps. A lot of 3.0 Apps are being ported to these ROMS. And there are some GREAT ones. MikG is very stable. Synergy, same thing, and everything seems to work well, although different phones react differently. Evoking's Alliance ROM is based on MikG but has some sweet themeing work dome to it and the carousel style Rosie works. There are a few others, so you'd have to read up on them.
The down side, well, for one, no custom kernel exists, because the source code for the stock kernel has not been released yet, so battery life is pretty tame. Also, there is no HDMI out and like I Said, some phones thrive with these setups and some are just not working out well, but I run a GB 2.3.3 ROM, because they are cutting edge and all the biggest names are working on them, creating some real nice work. So it can only get better.
hope this helps, man.
Kings Roms are by far my favorite after having many by different devs. heres the link.. its an amazing rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120734
I ran a few GB based roms before settling on MikG 2.15 and I find Mik's to be the best one yet.
dc13's TiX GB ROM is nice too. Very stock feel, but optimised. I still run his ROMs on my Moment and my son's Transform with great success. Battery life on those phones are amazing, getting 40+ hours out of a charge.
I use MIUI as my daily driver even though I live in a 4G area. Lots of features and add ons that are not found elsewhere. Good feel but a bit quirky at times.
Of the Sense.GB roms I've flashed, I liked MikG, Synergy and dc13's. All are very well done
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.6.17
+ 1 on kings Rom....7.4t....best and smoothest out there.
Oh cool, 7.4 is out? I'll have to check it out.
I'm running MikG v2.2 and really like it. The only complaint I have is that the Google Talk video chat feature is sideways. This is a feature I was looking forward to so the fact that it's bork is kind of a bummer to me but if you don't care about that it's a great ROM.
I am just waiting on some more updates and see who I will go with lol. See who becomes the most stable in two weeks time etc.

[Q] What's your daily driver?

Relatively new to the G2, and I'm looking for a daily driver without having to experiment with 10 roms that all have one deal-breaking bug.
I like sense, which is good because it looks like pretty much all of the recent roms are sense or miui. I really wanted to have a sense 3.0/3.5 with 3d widgets, but it doesn't look like there are any stable, fast roms in this department.
So what's your go-to rom? I probably will start experimenting with all the newer roms anyway, but I want to get set up with a stable fallback first.
Thanks
As far as an AOSP ROM goes, I believe that meXdroidMod is hands down the fastest thing I've ever installed and it also has great developer support too. Here recently I've been all about MIUI so right now I'm running tun4fish's Bulletproof Miui. I'm in love with the speed and stability of this rom and the amount of customization you can do with it.
All in all it all boils down to personal preference. I like flashy, customizable roms so those two fit me. Play around and see what's right for you

I switch between CM7 and Beatmod Blissense. I prefer a more pure android, but I do like the UI and widgets in Beatmod.
Been running Bulletproof MIUI the last couple weeks. Solid daily driver with all the features I need and no issues.
When I get bored, I switch back/forth between CM7 and MIUI.
Been a meXdroidMod convert for awhile now. Really really fast and everythings smooth! Developer support is awesome too!
I started out with trying Virtuous Unity and Virtuous Doubleshot but found the Sense 3.0 ROMs were to slow for my DZ.
Settled for Virtuous Sense for the time being which is perfect for me. Also tried out Bulletproof MIUI just to try something completely different but that was definitely not for me so I returned to Virtuous Sense.

Virtuos Sense 2.0.0 for me. Stable, fast, no unexpected suprises.
I find any of the sense roms are too slow. On bulletproof miui currently and it blazes. CM7 is also quick and a joy to use.

I gotta go with cm7 nightlies here. Cm blazes on this phone at 1.5ghz. Check out the gps thread in development if you have issues with gps and your radio.

I've been running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC-1 for 1027:53:15 hours. That's over a month without having to restart. Plus I have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz with Pershoot's kernal. I've never had this kind of stability before. But unfortunately I will have to reboot to install the the final build of Cyanogenmod 7.1.
Been running stock rooted GB and recently tried g-lite but it was crashing my phone. Went back to Stock rooted, runs great and reliable
My daily driver is a honda crx haha =)

MIUI would be my daily driver. Speedy while still looking absolutely beautiful. Either of the builds by CarpeNoctem or Tuna4fish would serve you well
lots of love for MIUI here
as much as I like it too the OP said he likes Sense, so for me after trying absolutely every ROM with Sense, i like the InsertCoin. It has the battery and speed of your 2.1 Sense ROM but all the cool features of Sense 3.
I'd like to stress on the battery life - it's absolutely fantastic on InsertCoin.

As far as MIUI goes, I prefer Tun4fish's build (Bulletproof MIUI). Its updated weekly with the MIUI.US release, and has a great kernel and memory management tweaks. Super reliable.

It doesn't have any memory problems, common for Sense 3 ROMs?
Try using ILWT CM7
Its a rom thas is based on the latest major nightly build and it has the virtuos oc daemon
Its pretty fast and the battery is awespme!

I agree with this statement 100%. Absolutely the best and my favorite ROM out right now.
I'm currently on CM7 nightlies. CM7 is by far the fastest ROM I've used, and it just gets faster when you overclock it. If I get bored, I'll use tun4fish's Bulletproof MIUI for a change of pace.
My daily driver is IC 2.1+3.0 and its awesome on the Desire Z.

G2 Rooting

Hey guys,
Noob question here.
I haven't rooted a G2 since 2010, and I just had to replace my old one due to some hardware errors. I would like to root this one and install one of the new ICS roms, but there seems to be a wealth of information these days and I am lost on how to do it currently.
What is the most current way of rooting?
Thanks for your help, back to reading.
The method found in the wiki. Solid guide, you won't have any issues if you're careful.
You basically have to downgrade to older (and exploitable) firmware (preferably following Setherio's guide) and then just follow the wiki for the most part.
Sent from my DZ.
Yeah, did what you said, worked perfectly.
Once Clockwork was installed, I remembered what to do from there.
Downloaded and installed MIUI rom of some sort. I tried Andromadus and didn't like it so much yet. It was a little slow for me. This MIUI rom is working pretty nice.
Any recommendation for someone just getting back into the "choosing a rom" game?
*Also, thanks for your help on my posts, greatly appreciated*
just try them all

My thoughts exactly!
I'm gonna go with what I find best. Keep in mind, this is my opinion.
CyanogenMod - ILWT
My personal favourite, due to the fact you can extensively customize it to your needs before installation. It's wicked fast too! Alternatively EliteMod is also a good choice.
Ice Cream Sandwich - Andromadus Audacity
This is ICS built from source for our device. Needless to say, it was a lot of work. Excellent effort for an excellent ROM. ICS, however, at it's current state tends to have worse performance and battery life when compared to Gingerbread. It also has some bugs here and there, and the camera is not completely working, due to the framework overhaul for the camera in ICS. Regardless, if you want to use ICS this is the way to go.
Sense 4.0A - Virtuous Primadonna / Ice Cream SenseWich / IceZSense
Keep in mind though, Sense 4 is still at early state of development (from our dev teams that is), and things like camera will not work at all. There are also some additional bugs that will be somewhat harder to figure out (proprietary code majig). Although, it is definitely fast and smooth. I think camera is being worked on at this moment by a fellow XDA user, and he has had some success with getting the camera to work.
Sense 3.5 - AndRev
This is probably one of the fastest Sense 3.5 ROM's around. Keep in mind though, Sense 3.5 IS bloated and is considerably slow when compared to others. Alternatively you can try Virtuous Affinity.
Sense 2.1 (Stock) - Virtuous Sense
If you want to keep it stock, this is the way to go.
Barebone - Virtuous G-Lite
This is without the doubt the best barebone ROM around, it's got lots of memory, lots of battery life and is generally fast. You can install everything else you need for extra functionality through the market.
MIUI - Strawmetal.Mi
Any of the stock will work, but this ROM is further optimized and will save you some time if you were to tweak.
Hope I shed some light
Oh yeah, thanks for the post. I used CyanogenMod a while back, and I really enjoyed it, but I have also been enjoying the MIUI I installed the other day. I think I am going to stick with it. I tried Strawmetal but I will end up staying with mexdroidmod I believe.
I am going to check the rest of those out as well. Thanks again.
