hi. I have a samsung vibrant running the official FroYo rom. I flashed a stock+voodoo JA6 kernel and I cant disable the lagfix. I have created the "disable voodoo" file in the voodoo folder and when I reboot I hear the voice say "converting filesytem" it boots up, and when I run quadrant I see 1496, I've tried to reboot several times, and it won't disable. Is it possible to flash another kernel over with odin? I would like my phone stock again.
Do you have red clockwork? If so disable voodoo through there, but I haven't had a issue flashing kernels without disabling voodoo.
If you flashing a voodoo rom to a voodoo rom, usually not a problem ,but some of the roms are built very differently, and not knowing which rom is compatible with which, to me, it is way easier just to disable voodoo then flash
But i have flashed without disabling and and only got soft bricked a couple of times.......
when in doubt....disable.
i realize its a total pain in the ass, but whenever i got lazy and softbricked, i always ended up wishing i just showed a little patience and disabled.....no one wants to ODIN unless they have to.
OP,
Have you tried the Voodoo Toggle app in the market to disbale voodoo?
I have tried to disable it in clockwork, it just says its converting, but after running quadrant it still shows 1500

Try the app I mentioned please.
Just tried the app. It says I should flash a kernel that supports controls

If you want your phone stock use the AIO toolbox to odin to stock and then use kies to update to 2.2.
Delete the disable voodoo file you made, reboot, try the app again

So after receiving my replacement vibrant i've decided to simply root and use some of the apps i used to like. Assuming i don't end up breaking under pressure and flashing a ROM, will things such as morphs and changing system apps not allow an OTA to successfully flash and boot? I did apply a black bar mod with an accurate battery but other than that i've done nothing but app related activities that require root. So, say when the official 2.2 comes out, would i have to revert my framework to stock as well before accepting the update? Like I said, currently I remain on stock JI6 with the stock kernel.
I think you need to be completely stock, no mods, for an ota to take. If not you'll most likely brick
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That's not true. You can have all kinds of mods. The only thing you need is touchwiz running during the ota time frame and you will get it.

For instance I was running jfd and jacs oc/uv kernel and a battery mod + a meta morph theme and no home replacement app and I got the update

yeah, but did it work? were your mods still there? i was told that having a different kernel will not allow the update to come through
My phone went to stock . Booted up with stock ji6 with ji6 kernel . I had to reroot even though my super user app was still there and reapply mods just like when you odin a stock rom . The only difference was my apps stayed in system/app and system/app-private and carried over with the update.

The ones that bricked were probably running voodo . That changes things... So if your running stock jfd and a voodo kernel your most likely to brick. But odin will save you.
O and you haven't recieved the ota yet?? That sucks. Why havent you used keys mini from samsung thats an official way to upgrade.

All I had at the time was root, clockwork rom, titanium backup and launcher pro and mine bricked (well soft bricked)...

Ive never used mini kies before, I wouldnt trust my old ass pc, I try not to use odin too much either

Guys im ruining on nero v3 and jk6 modern and the voodoo 5 stick kernel that came with nero v3, with voodo enabled. so problem is that I run out of battery fast faster than stock jl6 on 2.1,so what is the best kernel with good battery life and performance. Stock kernel gives me some lag. So il avoid that one.
FYI: Voodoo will ALWAYS drain your battery faster than stock.
it happened to me too. i went in recovery, advance and wipe the battery stat and now the battery last much longer.

Why do you say? Voodoo uses stock kernels except it converts partitions to ext4.

I'm not entirely sure why but I think its because the system has to constantly convert the data to ext4 rather than having a native rfs. Don't take my explanation as fact though. But from personal experience and countless posts from others, its known that Voodoo will always drain faster than stock.
The easiest way to root your device would be to go into the development section and there is a post at the very top that says the vibrant bible and download the one click root or one of the other methods listed. That will root your device then u need to go to the market and download Rom Manager. Then find a custom Rom that u like and put it on the internal sd card. I am using Eugene's macnut r14. After u put it where it goes then go into Rom Manager and click flash clockwork mod recovery. It will have a list of phones click on the vibrant. After it downloads click on boot into recovery. It may take u to the stock recovery, if it does move down using the volume down button and select "Reinstall Packages" using the power button it should then take u to clockwork mod. In there click install zip from sd card. Scroll down using the volume down button and select it using the power button again. Then once u find the rom click the power button again once it is highlighted. It will ask are u sure that u want to install this. Scroll down and select yes. And that is it you are then done and now will have 2.2 if the rom u picked had it. Also before u install the rom but after u root the device download Titanium Backup and make a backup of all your apps and that will also save your data with those apps. If u need any help feel free to P.M. me because that is easier then finding this thread again.

Im no noob when it comes to flashing but I flashed back to stock using odin last week, immediately afterwards I flashed back to nero v3. So today I flashed eugenes super io kernel after disabling voodoo of course, went into oclf to enable the lag fix but to my surprise its saying my phone isn't rooted?? So the option of installing the lag fix isn't available to me. Yet I've been able to flash custom roms???? I don't get it

Hello, I looked around a bit and couldn't find an answer, so I figured i would just post this and ask.
I have two (probably) easy questions.
1. I'm on DI01 right now (superfast and superclean), can i go straight to DL09 or do i have to go DJ05 then DL09?
2. Can anyone give me a link to download odin? The link in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
happens to be broken for me.
anyone?

You can go straight to DL09. I have Odin shared on my Google Site page with instructions for upgrading as well, see here.
Thanks.

I use voodoo as it makes installing apps a lot faster and lags the phone less. Since voodoo5 and red clockwork, it's been much more reliable and easier to use.
Dl09 was a success.. I'm on the non-voodoo kernel and I'll probally flash voodoo tommarow.

That's good to hear. The only thing you need to remember after moving to voodoo is to be aware that you're using it when switching kernels. If you flash a non-voodoo kernel without first disabling voodoo, it can be a big headache. However, with the current state of development, most things are moving toward voodoo since it has become more stable and reliable.
Yep yep. Thanks for the quick replies and all the help you have been. I have the voodoo zip file on my sd card (the one from the DL09 thread). All I need to do is flash that one right?

Yeah, flash it the same way you did the other kernel and rom. When you restart, there will be a voice giving an approx. time to convert the partitions to the new file system. It will hold on the Samsung logo while doing the conversion and then go to the boot animation when done. I think the time to convert is anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depending on how much data you have. Disabling voodoo will take a few minutes longer and has the same voice time estimates.
Alright. I might just do this right now then.

Voodoo took about 5 minutes to get to a fully usable phone. Thank you very much! My phone feels brand new and ultra fast

i just installed dl09, and flashed the right rom. I restarted and am wondering how long it takes to load the rom. I did not flash the kernel right away. I was going to do that after the rom. So far I only have a black screen about 3 minutes in. Whats the deal?
You need to flash the kernel too
Swyped from my SCH-I500 using the XDA app.
just restarted flashed rom and then kernel both. black screen with bottom buttons all lit up for about 20 minutes now. help.
What rom and kernel did you flash? And you flashed the modem in the pda section of odin?
Swyped from my SCH-I500 using the XDA app.
yes i used the pda section and it passed just fine. i then unplugged phone, put batt back in. started phone back up and used rom manager to get to recovery. at first i just flashed blackhole 3.0 rom but i had his kernel and several components downloaded. i was paranoid so i flashed rom then reboot. black screen after samsung for a long time. i then reflashed rom w/ kernel. still got hung. then i went back and flashed everything i had dl including boot animation, digital clock, everything along with rom and kernel again. this time got to blackhole boot animation then has been stuck on that screen for about 40 min. it is the boot with the galaxy and stars with a small android robot in the lower right corner. thinking of doing the odin d101 package. wont that return me to stock. i don't want to but any suggestions.
Ok so i just installed the new eb01 rom and i also installed the voodoo kernel at the same time. On initial bootup my phone seemed to freeze at the samsung screen, i was like oh awesome it froze lol, but then my phone started talking to me in this computer lady voice about how it is changing the file system. It kinda scared me at first. Not sure if this is a new thing or not but it was strange....
Just thought id let ya guys know what happened to me at 7 in the morning lol. Hearing my phone talk to me, ya know im awake and ready for my day
That was the voodoo lady. Letting you know you activated it.

Yep, all Voodoo kernels do that, in order to let you know that your phone is actually doing something, instead of just appearing to be frozen.
I was wondering if someone can post the voodoo link for eb1. I apparently don't have enough posts to download it lol. Thanks in advance!

Isnt it a headache to get rid of voodoo if you ever decide to go back to an ota build?
Ok so I know this comes down to preference... BUT I'm still in noob mode and haven't messed with Android at all. So what is the benefit of installing the lagfix? Is it really that noticeable or more placebo effect?
I'm running stock DL30 and was just wondering if it is worth the time and energy to "update" to EB01 and use voodoo as well....
Have any of you that have installed EB01 seen anything new and/or improved from DL30 and with or without voodoo? Odexed vs Deodexed?
Just looking for some opinions before jumping in... Have everything downloaded and ready though Thanks for any input!
Forewarning about installing VooDoo LagFix.
Just a heads up with installing VooDoo... Next time you install another Kernel or ROM, you should disable VooDoo Lagfix in Recovery before you flash a kernel or a ROM again. If the kernel you are upgrading to is a VooDoo kernel or the ROM you are install has a VooDoo Kernel integrated.
You do this by going into Recovery and VooDoo menu at the bottom. You enable or disable it there. Then restart to let the VooDoo kernel take care of itself.
And if you do manage to destroy what you did...
Use Odin to flash an all in one such as this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911677
What VooDoo LagFix does is convert your RFS file system to EXT4. It also messes with the Master Boot Record or MBR. If you accidentally leave it in EXT4 and flash over it with a different kernel that expects RFS, your phone will lock your storage out. For those of you without Linux experience, EXT4 is basically a souped up NTFS where RFS is more like FAT32.

Not really. Just boot to Red CWM (included with Voodoo kernels), disable it. Reboot, and then flash whatever stock rom you want.

Um, I feel the need to clarify this. You DO NOT have to disable the lag fix in order to install ROMs, as long as you use the red version of CWM that the Voodoo kernel installed on your phone, replacing the stock recovery, and as long as the ROM you're flashing doesn't include a non-Voodoo kernel. Also, again using the red Voodoo CWM, you can install any other Voodoo kernel without disabling the lag fix. I have done it many times without incident. You only have to disable the lag fix if you intend to flash a non-Voodoo kernel, since the new kernel can't handle the EXT4 filesystem.

Curious though...sc 2.1 includes a voodoo kernel, but it's my understanding that voodoo isn't technically operational on ebo1 yet? Am I missing something here? Is the sc 2.1 voodoo functioning like regular voodoo?

You can only get voodoo for EB01 through the fascinate IRC channel right now. It is still being tested.
voodoo does come installed
There are 2 versions posted now voodoo and non-voodoo. I was wondering the same thing until i installed it. i think I read the same posts stating that it was not available yet. But it is! just not sold separately at your local retail stores. My phone talking to me, scared my wife when I was playing around with the lag fix in bed.
So if I understand you guys correctly, if I don't like the froyo voodoo kernel or want to restore a nandroid backup that doesn't have voodoo, I first need to disable voodoo in the red CWM using the voodoo menu. Once it changes the file system back to stock, I can then restore my nandroid backup.
Does that sound correct?

Going to flash my stock VZW tab tomorrow- what would everyone suggest for the best rom to start with?
Thanks for replys!!!
Im running the stock rom with all the bloat Titaniumed out, and running adw ex launcher... the roms that are out for CDMA right now are too personalized for my taste...
However the KhasMek Voodoo Plus v3 OC Kernal is aaaaaaamazing!!! and definitely install Voodoo control App... again its aaaaaamazing!!
So i flahed the khasmek voodoo rom. So sorry if this is a dumb question, but why wasn't the market installed? I tried to install it, but it just kept crashing.
Thanks!

I had the same problem... plus my email would routinely give me an error, again making it crash... and it also brought up a process.acore error about every 3 min... so i just went back to stock, installed the kernal only and now customized my own rom
What's it take to just install the kernel? has it affected the stability
So can i just flash the kernel only with sgs kernel flasher?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
honestly not sure about with sgs flasher... I used Hiemdall... all you have to do is:
1. put your tab into DL mode
2. plug into your comp
3. open the driver package, in the driver folder that comes with hiemdall
4. tell it to list all devices, chose Samsung USB composite, and upload the driver
5. open the hiemdall frontend
6. put the kernal file in the kernal and recovery slot
7. flash... done
hope this helps
and stability is great!! havent had a single problem and I run the hell out of my tab almost all day
yeah dont use sgs flasher. i doubt thats safe
Thanks admir1. Are you using the overclocked kernel or just the regular 1?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I didnt know I was supposed to put the tab in DL mode, I just mounted it and it came up as samsung tablet in the drivers section, thats what installed. Did I screw it up for this PC to work for flashing now?
I think you should be fine? As long as when you flashed the kernal in hiemdall it said successful you should be good to go...
And I'm using the OC kernal
