ok I have an evo and a mytouch 4g I have a few friends that have evos as well. Im guessing that since its a new feature that not many people have messed with it but there is a bug in the video chat app im guessing for the mytouch 4g. you can video call people and it works great far better than the one for the evo but the problem is that when you are talking to them you cant hear them unless you hit the mute button its really annoying I let the qik support know and they said they are working on it but has anyone else had this issue??/
I do all the time so I used tango instead

Doesn't belong in development, next time please post in general. Now that we have perm-root, the development section is gonna get a lot busier. Let's try not to clutter it up with misposted threads.
Yea I have notice alot of bugs in this phone. It defanatly needs an update of some sorts. Overall its nice but buggy anyone else notice this?
Yep qik doesnt work good at all. So I tired fring and it doesn't use my front camara. Ughh
I wonder which will come first.... Qik update to fix this or 2.3 which supposedly has video chat built into gchat...
I was trying to figure out why my wife couldn't hear me when i called her from my EVO! Thanks for the tip about holding the mute button.
The MT4G qik app is a lot better. It actually shows you if people are online or if they have a FFC to chat with. A lot better than the EVO's where you just call out having to know who has a compatible phone.
I use qik and works fine with another MT4G no need to hit the mute button. But when I called my cousin that was using a epic from sprint we had to do the mute button thing for one another to hear each other
i absolutly cannot get qik to list my contacts with ffc and qik... i can video call someone by tapping their name in recent chats or manually inputting their qik id, but it wont sync into my contacts...
when i try to vid chat with a friend, i click his name in qik phonebook and it tells me, he doesnt have qik and i can send video email... but i can turn around and call him from recent chats...
any ideas?
I submited the bug to qik's support team they just wrote me back saying that they are working on it as fast as they can so i dontknow.

either use the built in software "Qik - video chat" or download from teh market place "tango".
I prefer tango as they seem to do better with lower network speeds. BTW, 3g speeds are slow but manageable for video chat (well i guess depends on how strong your 3g is..) and the person your calling has to have tango installed (i don't know if tango bypasses the need for a specific video chat enabled phone)
did this answer your question?

Tango is so much better I think , better video quality and performance.
You can also video chat with Apple products like iphone or ipod touch people.
Best as I can tell QIK doesn't come on Verizon's version of the Tab. Very odd. I suspect it's a reluctance to offer the service but you'll see if you browse their site they simple never mention that they've removed QIK from their Tab and their support people aren't even aware of it at all.

What about Fring? I am currently Androidless so I don't have a chance to see what Tango is all about as a comparison to Fring, which is better than Qik.
I like Fring as well but it's not working for the Tab. When I do the test call it shows the image from the FFC but nothing records for playback.
K
I am also using Tango on my Tab but I haven't tried the Yahoo messenger video chat yet so that might be a good one.
Tango is pretty cool, saw it in action yesterday on an Evo that was chatting with an iPhone 4, I'm like, "She has an Evo?" "An iPhone 4? Is she on wifi?" The quality was just astounding compared to Fring and obviously compared to Qik, since Qik SUCKS.
So they were both on 3G, and it looked perfect. Tango it is.

Skype bought QIK, does that mean we'll get skype with video chat soon!?!!? If so, that would be AWESOME!
yeah, was announced a couple of days ago. however skype already does video chat and has an app for verizon for new LTE phones, so i don't know what the hold up is

or do we lose video chat with qik and skype locks it down to one carrier?
probably the case, skype blocked fring from using their protocol(?) earlier when the evo first came out as that was how fring was touting video chat

I hope not. There are rumors that Facebook will be integrating Skype as it's video chat solution; that'd pretty much guarantee Skype's ubiquity as the video calling standard.
It seems like there are lots of mentions of the new Verizon Droid Bionic having Skype video chatting but there's no mention of the AT&T Atrix having it. Seeing as how both are Moto's, this is not a good sign. The iPhone 4 on AT&T already has Skype video calling so this may be another Verizon Android exclusive. We'll see though.
I guess I was looking at the whole pc to phone thing...which I think would be pretty damn cool.
You can video chat from PC to phone using ooVoo on the Evo.
Everyone is carrier locking like a bunch of money grubbing pansies so rather than seeing anything awesome we will still be stuck with waisted potential.
Where's NET Neutrality when you need it? Oh thats right: Google sold out on that one.
[throwhissyfitincorner]
Say good bye to Qik. Verizon locked up the Skype video calling.
Google talk should have video chat sooner or later anywhos
Theres also still yahoo video chat, I guess, although I can't wait for google to come out with one.
Hey I'm thinking about upgrading and getting the mytouch 4g for me and my girlfriend but Ive read initial reviews about the video chatting being a little choppy even on wifi (these were reviews when the phone first came out). Any experiences would be helpful. Thanks!
I live in one of the 2-3MB 4G areas not the 6+ ones. I know more speed is always more better, but honestly I find the 2-3 good enough for everything I need.
I suppose it does depend on what you mean by "a little choppy". If you were expecting to come across like ESPN you will be heartbroken. But as for freezing up / bursting every few seconds, I haven't seen anything like that. This is 4G. I haven't tried it on wifi.
I don't find QIK to be the best server ever conceived and thought that before MT4G. I believe a lot of the problems people have seen is shortcomings in QIK. I tried the Yahoo one and rather than shortcomings it was barely functional at all. If it were 500% better it would still be unusable. I forget the name of the one the i-fans use, starts with a T. I haven't tried that one at all.
I tried using QIK to talk to someone with an EVO (Sprint). It was a miserable experience! Nothing like TMOB to TMOB. So that's another thing to consider.
Tango works well..
Qik works great for me... only time it's a little choppy is if someone has an Edge connection...

Qik, Tango, Yahoo Messenger
I Use Qik, Tango & Yahoo Messenger to do my video chatting with.
So far Qik is the best, it is built into the phone specifically for video chatting. However, Qik seems to work best when your over wifi.
When your over 4g use Tango. It does get a little Choppy but it serves its purpose. One problem i have with Tango is, you will need to have your headphones in or be in a quiet area in order to hear the other person well. Once when Wifi'ing using Tango, i was able to have a clear video call with someone for around 45mins. They were using an EVO if that matters.
Lastly Yahoo messenger i rarely use but ive started using it these last few days since the update came out. It works oooooook. But i would only use it to video chat with people who were on there pic.
Also Oovoo is currently in its beta stage, if you use ooVoo. But it has ALOT of bugs still.
Hope this helped you.
Uhhh, whats the point of selling a phone with a front facing camera, if the phone doesn't come with the software right off the bat?? LOL
Anyways, is there a work around for this with one of the ROMS?
Thanks!!
theres tango in the market..qik..and you can google the fring beta for the atrix
Blame google for not having a way to video chat, not Motorola for including it on the phone.

Wow, great. Another person posting a new thread without even looking up anything first.
It's been everywhere, even when you go to the Motorola website and look at the Atrix it has a picture of it using Qik.

Oh no...boo hoo!!! Another post on a question that's been asked already?!?!? What will come of this? The intrawebz is running low on available space! Quick! Start deleting stuff!!!
Tango works cross platform.

For one thing - the sarcasm is childish. Two, if anyone actually READ the forum RULES, it says - SEARCH BEFORE POSTING..... Its not a difficult concept. Third, all this does is CLUTTER the forum with crap that doesnt need to be here.
Tango works, but it's unreliable and compare to facetime it's crap. Google needs to make facetime for android.
Google needs to add video support to Google Talk.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
and if I want to call to someone don't have a smartphone....like samsung f480 without that software
So there is no videocall option? are they serious? not everybody have qik or other software...just a usual videocall over 3g
I think its a probleme with android and not the phone it self...
I already have the dezire z and nexus S and they have a front camera but can't do a video call to another phones without this softwares
motorola wrote a crapy motoblur and was unable to wrote a normal videocall app???
p.s. moto had a super videocall option on their phones - they can even record video!
I see video calling as one of those things that would be great to do someday but for now its just another come on gimmick. Without every single phone being able to video call (not video chat) and being compatible with all the other phones out there I see no real reason for it other than a gimmicky thing. Having said that, my wife has the iPhone 4 and she has been after me to get it also so we can video call. Like the droids, the iPhone 4 can video call but only with another iPhone 4. It may be that when they come out with the iPhone 5 this summer that it may not be able to video call with the iPhone 4.
Now, since ATT saw fit to shove an update on my Atrix that essentially locked it up even more I am seriously considering going to the iPhone 4 and make my wife happy so she can see my pretty face when she calls me. She calls me once a day to ask how I am and give me a shopping list. I can see her calling me several times a day now just so she can video call, Oh joy! And if I don't accept her request to video call I can see myself in the dog house for a while.
we really need Skype Video or Google Video Chat ASAP.

There seems to be a lot of elitism on xda recently. This place used to be more friendly.
What is a usual video call over 3g? Isn't every video call use some sort of software. I mean I know what you mean but aren't those on really old nokia phones pre 3g? Android has quik Iphone has facetime.. windows has.. Who cares?

Contact fring support and ask for their atrix beta. I tried posting it on another xda thread but people had problems with it...just contact them, they'll provide a link, installed fine for me.

lol is this a first android device for some of you? ive had 4 ive never seen what you call " just a regular video call " its always been through software apps downloaded from the market.. tango/fring/qik and the others. one app i forget the name, paltalk i think, aloows for video chatrooms. if u want to video call someone who doesnt have a capable device in the first place, well nevermind. just download the apps and make some friends
the most people have a old phones, or don't have a wifi or 3g plan for internet....but they can do a video call for free...like in portugal...call's and video calls are free with all mobiles....like samsung to nokia, htc to other...withou internet plan or wifi connection....soo....
