Ok, after the last tmo/samsung update bricked my vibrant i got my replacement left it stock and let it update. it worked fine. Question is, should I root, incase they send another update i cannot refuse and it bricks my phone again. It's just that the lag fix makes it twice as fast. But i don't like bricked phones.
Root
Clockwork
Backup
Flash Fusion

Click the link in my signature. That thread took a LOT of work, but it should have eveything you need to know. If it does not, let me know what I can do to make it better.

It's easy once you read and understand. And i'm almost certain you could've fixed your last 'bricked' phone if you searched.
I searched. the first was a soft brick sticking at vibrant logo. I fixed it, but I didn't have a stock backup i flashed, it was a "stock rom" i found on here somewhere. But when it bricked the second time it wouldn't power up, no battery on screen when charging, nothing. But, I will give it a go this way and see what happens, I have 2 now, so eh. It's fun, but I am jsut getting into it. like I flashed it with one of the froyo roms, but the sound wouldn't work for nothing, i searched and no one else using that rom had that problem that i could find. So i know there was something i didn't do. I just wanna makesure i can get it back to stock if i need to.

Ok, so I did all that you mentioned seemed to work fine, but this fusion rom doesn't seem like much. now don't flame yet, i am just talkin. but it doesn't look like it changed much other than add launcher pro and as for lag. it's not as slow as stock but with ryans lag fix my quadrant score was 2550 and i'm getting 950 on this. although i have to say the gps snapped to lock. that was great.i really like the froyo rom i flashed before if i could have figured our how come my sound wasn't working and everyone else did not have that issue.

There are a few options available on TeamWhiskey website:
1. Fusion with stock kernel
2. Fusion with JAC kernel
3. Fusion with KK kernel
All of the above do not include any lagfixes, except a manual invocation via ADB for RyanZA's equivalent, a.k.a mount /data on a virtual EXT2 partition.
Optionally you can load Voodoo EXT4 based lagfix on non stock kernel options.
Another project is underway with TW own overclocked kernel and z4mod.
And as far as not much, compare the system resource utilization on stock Vibrant and on Vibrant with Fusion (with stock kernel option) - the guys over at TW have squeezed as much as possible out of TouchWiz to make the phone snappier, and as an added bonus they have removed most of the bloatware for you as well leaving the Media Hub for those who might wanna use it.
For last 4 days I am using ZSJPE with Speedmod K10I
This is after having used JPO, DDJPA with all sorts of combinations.
Just as I was expecting that this is going to be a hit JPU hijacked the scene.
But ZSJPE vs JPU
ZSJPE is stock while JPU is leaked and still buggy
ZSJPE has everything fixed just like JPU
ZSJPE is completely bug free, and simply flys, JPU is having few bugs being reported
Kies connects, and no problem seeing internal and external storage on PC mac
Issues fixed in ZSJPE
GPS
Battery Life
Second Capital in Swype
Missing alphabets in contacts
Lag (nearly gone), quadrant without lagfix was over 1000.
As I researched, The XML files on apps from /data/data/<appname>/shared_prefs/ to /dbdata/databases/<appname>/shared_prefs/
According to Kalpik in post in thread JPU post 688 this could be the reason for the faster ROM.
Installation for trouble free and possibly best performance.
Backup apps through apps like titanium/mybackup
factory reset or full wipe.
go into download mode and flash using Odin, only PDA single file, NO PIT, no repartition required.
allow full boot and let full initialization, you will have to keep pressing next in setup wizard because it is in east asian language,
go to setttings>>location (from Square icon with A)>>Select 1st option>>select english.
shutdown
boot into download mode
flash speedmod kernel K10i
reboot
reboot into recovery
flash "simple root" installs super user and busybox.
flash 2e recovery
reboot
boot into recovery
apply lagfix (optional, as even without lagfix this rom flies), apply tweaks the top 4
reboot completely>>shutdown>>charge till full>>boot into recovery>>advanced CWM>>Clear battery stats
reboot and enjoy the NEW improved SGS experiance.
Do not expect quadrant scores over 1400-1600, but absolutely amazing phone.
Hope you will be able to find the ZSJPE and Speedmod Kernel in the forum.

ZSJPE is as fast and smooth as XXJPU. ZSJPE has not given me single bug over last 5 days of rigorous use (rather misuse) to my surprise. ZSJPE is official HongKong ROM available through kies as well.
XXJPU is leaked ROM and various bugs are being reported. Worst of them is the poorly optimized browser, which is being reported to show checkerboard pattern while zooming in or out.
Hope I have clarified the point.

I will try to attach the pics ASAP, for now I would say
Idle use, like overnight with only 2G and no data it consume 1% in 7-8 hrs
Day time idle use with wifi on, sync on, screen off, no calling, I get 1/2% to 1% per hr
With browser 3G or angry bird it dropped 15%-20% per hour.
I do not like to compare the total time on with light/moderate/heavy use because these are subjective and relative terms and often confuse.
Please Wipe Battery stats after Flashing and go through full charge discharge cycle at least twice before you should Assess or Comment on the battery performance.
I use this ROM too, Just amazing. Never had any trouble with it.
My steps to install were:
1 - Backup Apps with mybackup.
2 - Odin only PDA, no repartition.
3 - Factory Reset (+ Deleted/Formatted Everything)
4 - Language English.
5 - Changed input method to Samsung Keypad to get rid of Chinese.
6 - Flash Speedmod Kernel K10i
7 - SuperOneClickv1.5.5
8 - Restore Apps & Data.
Enjoy a really good phone.
Circle battery mod
(Credit @evermick)
(Remember THIS IS ODEXED ROM, so not all .zip would work.
The one that gets downloaded from online kitchen is to be modified by replacing AndroidManifest.xml and META-INF from the Original framework-res.apk into the cooked framework-res.apk for it to work. So be sure what you are doing.)
The attached here is ready to be flashed straight through recovery.
Attached also is the original framework-res.apk which may be flashed through recovery to revert.
I am not sure whether it matters but I flashed it on virgin (fresh flash) ROM.
thx mate gonna try this firmware. gonna reparation with pit 512 as my phone has a virus.
You are welcome?

Steps may wary, but I emphasize to reboot after installs. Aim was to give slightly elaborate method for safe install for people like me.LOL.
No need for step Super one click. For root, speed mod kernel recovery had option for root.
I prefer to use least no of tools to modify system ' cos at times tools may conflict.

Though it may be updated through kies, I would recommend you to follow the steps in first post. This would ensure 'clean' install which would ensure trouble free performance. Through kies it would not result in full wipe and may bring with it 'errors' to your new system.
Think about it.
So this is also a 2.2.1 release like JPU? Someone post a screenshot that proves it.

I have no where suggested that this is 2.2.1.
The title clearly says "best 2.2 rom".
Then you really shouldn't claim it's everything jpu is, and bug free at that. JPU is 2.2.1. And the jpu bugs you are reporting have not been a problem for me, I'm on docs ultra slim.

Lol, it was not my intention to flame the guy, and I was pretty neutral in my wording, but it has to be allowed to clarify statements that are stated categorically and simply aren't correct. Even if bugs are a problem for some people, this thread gives the impression that they are pretty universal for the jpu, and that just isn't so. Also the fact that this isn't 2.2.1 is a fair thing to point out, if you ask me.

People often refer to Froyo as 2.2 regardless of whether it's 2.2 or 2.2.1. I figured it was only 2.2, but the fact that you were making direct comparisons to JPU had me wondering.
Hows the GPS? Locking time and accuracy?
Whats the difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2. anyways.... more speed?
THE LINKS I POSTED ARE NOT WORKING JUST GO TO THE i9000 XDA THREAD AND DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING FOR SOME REASON LINKS ARE NOT WORKING BUT JUST FOLLOW THE SAME INSTRUCTIONS ON HERE AND GET YOUR DOWNLOADS FROM THAT THREAD! THANKS
I thought Id post this since I have had a lot of success and even though I did this on my back up Captivate I am now using it as a daily driver as my only problems now have just been rotation even the buttons work. Network, Data, Calling everything is perfect and its insanely fast. I thought it really was very easy to do and it really does pay dividends if you flash and take it STEP BY STEP.
CHANGELOG
20110222
This build comes from teamhacksung repo which should be mainline compatible now.
It comes with silent updater-script. Don't be shocked!
- more camera fixes
- fixed touchscreen (thanks to DW1985 for this.- enabled 10 point multitouch
So here we go:
Flash Back To Stock
Flash latest Cognition 4 or any 2.2 ROM that converts to EXT4 (I only tested with Cog 4 so thats why Im saying that)
Then Download this:
Initial package:Copy following files to your internal sdcard
- galaxys-efsbackup.zip
- cm7-galaxys-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
Flash "speedmod-kernel-k12n-500hz.tar" (i9000) or any of the latest speedmods osing odin or CWM I have tested both.
Reboot into recovery using 3-button-combo and apply galaxys-efsbackup.zip.
- Don't use "reboot recovery" command to do this!
Flash cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar as pda using odin without auto-reboot
Reboot into recovery using 3-button-combo
Choose "mounts & storage" and format system, data, cache
Apply zip from sdcard: cm7-galaxys-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
Do a wipe!
REBOOT!
And there you go CM7 will be booting on your Cappy!
Captivate Bugs Ive Run into: Auto Rotation is still messed up but just turn auto rotation off once boots and you will be fine. And the search and back buttons do not work.
I hope this helped you as it really isnt that hard just follow each step and everything will be great.
Have a good day and again hope this helped.

Great I have been wanting to try this but I don't know how to build it so I was waiting for someone to help out. Looking forward to giving this a try.
orientation is in the kernel now, id the kernel was built for the captivate like the devs are working on now, orientation would work
this is not authorized by the cmsgs team, i think it would be wise to remove this thread until they are ready to release it.
This post is full of fail.
Should research more before posting a built kernel and then posting bug reports about bugs that have been fixed and could easily be known by doing a bit of research before trying to be the first to post a fail post.
Kthx.

Agreed. Please wait for something that works with a little more stability before posting this. While i know you're trying to help, and for you it sounds like CM7 is working great, who are people going to turn to when they need help with this 'rom'? They have been taken down goodness Im sorry I did not know it was a big deal.
My bad close the thread I dont care I thought I was helping but I understand my bad seriously
Closing this thread temporary while we investigate this.
Has any of the devs out looked into why we haven't had the Market apps/setting restore feature like we had on Froyo DK28 in EB13? I'm referring to the option when you were in the Android Setup Wizard after a wipe and flash of a new ROM you would be prompted about Google backing up and restoring your apps/settings. There was also options for this under Settings>Privacy.
They are still in the .apks (Settings.apk and Setupwizard.apk) I decompiled them and found the xml's and all are still there for this feature but for some reason or another I can't get it to function again under CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4. I haven't tried it under CWM 2.x.x.x/RFS .
I also doubled checked the build.prop and its set to OPTIONAL at the setupwizard line. Same goes for ROMS containing the extra default.prop.
I would really like to have this feature back in my ROM.
Thanks.

I hope Dameon87 or one of the seasoned devs can provide an answer.
I wonder if this is possibly EXT4/kernel related like the redirector issues ?

No, file system doesn't make a difference. It's missing from the stock RFS build also.
To the Moderators:
This is a try at lowering the rate of repeated questions in the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread. I am aware that this thread would probably belong in the "Q&A" section, but I fear that it will get buried and forgotten there. I beg you to consider the idea of this thread and leave it in the "General" section.
Have you flashed a CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightly? Do you have questions and problems? This post is here to help you!
Please read the entirety of this post before asking questions in the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread!
It is assumed that you have read the first post of the CM10.1 thread (called "the OP" in the following).
If you were not able to find your information by yourself, or would not have been able to without this thread, you should reconsider flashing a CM10.1 NIGHTLY.
I will not answer Questions in this thread.
I get a "status 7" message when flashing with CWM!
It seems you are running PhilZ Kernel or a derivative of it. This kernel seems to be broken and unable to flash. Flash Siyah, Dorimanx or any other Kernel via CWM or ODIN, boot to Recovery and try again.
My phone asks for a PIN or some other code which I don't have!
You have a SIM.Locked Phone which was unlocked via an exploit. Samsungs kernel-update fixes a few issues, including those exploits. Use GalaxSim Unlock to re-unlock your phone.
Youtube/Market/GMail crashes!
You need to flash the corresponding 4.2.1 GApps, currently 20121212.
The Clock app (or any other app) crashes!
Go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Clock (or whatever it was) and delete it's data.
Are there any other kernels supporting CM10.1?
As far as I know, all Siyah-based Kernels should work. Remember that you are not supposed to post on the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread when using a different kernel.
I have flashed [insert any kernel here], now my phone won't boot!
The kernel obviously does not support CM10.1/Android 4.2.1. Reflash the ROM to get the stock kernel back.
Where are the developer and performance options?
Google has hidden them. With good reason. You can render your phone unbootable if you use those incorrectly. To quote Codeworkx: "bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed."
If you apsolutely need to use them, tap Build Number until you are a developer (about 7 times).
I unlocked the Developer Options and tried to use "Simulate Screens". Now my screen is black and won't turn on again!
That is why one does not simply mess around with the dev options. Reboot your phone and press vol. down while it's booting. This will boot it to Secure Mode, where you can go and untick "Simulate Screens". Fixed.
I cannot find Photosphere! Will it be added?
No. Photosphere is not open source and therefore only available for Nexus devices.
Charging speed is very slow!
Due to hardware limitations, there are only three possible charging speeds, one of which is never used. The others are 450mA on USB and 650mA on the charger. Your phone is either draining power while being charged (media scanner?) or has a problem with the USB connector. Try cleaning it CAREFULLY or find the app responsable for the drain with BetterBetteryStats.
I want to disable the Lockscreen Widgets
Use Lockscreen Policy from the Play Store
The weather Icon of Chronus does not show on the lockscreen!
You can maximize widgets in the Lockscreen Settings. All your Lockscreen widgets will be maximized after turining the screen on. If you want to know why there's no better Option read this.
Sometimes I get freezes when scrolling through long lists!
I have never experienced this. People suggest that ticking "Force GPU Rendering" in Developer Options solves this. Other People suggest that forcing GPU rendering breaks other things, e.g. the keyboarld leaves a black space in WhatsApp. I have never experienced this, neither.
My Car Stereo/Handsfree/other Bluetooth device does not work correvtly!
All AOSP 4.2.1 ROMs including the Nexus 4 seem to have problems with Bluetooth, or more specifically A2DP. Rumour has it that it will be fixed in 4.2.2.
I get "Out of storage" messages and can no longer install Apps!
Viber and Lucky pacher are known to trigger this. Try to move them to your external SD card. If that doesn't do the trick, search /data/apps for .odex files and delete them.
I get tons of dumpstate_ril_RESET_BY_CP_SILENTRESET.log files at /data/log !
These are logs of RIL crashes. Do NOT use GetRIL to fix this. Use this instead. These zips flash modem, RIL and a few other related files. They are much more reliable than GetRIL. You can also try to Flash XXLS8 without RIL and hen reflash CM, it comes with XXLS8 RIL.
The rotation- and the acceleration sensor do not work anymore!
Deactivating tilt to scroll in Chrome should help.
Real Racing 3/Simpsons/other games crash after a very short time!
Blamesung. This is a problem with the current mali driver (mali is the graphics chip). Do not expect it to be fixed. There is a possibility to flash older drivers and fix the gaming issues (see siyah kernel), but that will bring the graphical glitches in the UI and keyboard back.
UPDATE: It seems to me that it's not the mali driver, but the audio HAL acting up. I have sudden loss of audio and a game crash a few seconds after, most prominently in World of Goo, and some people report that disabling all things audio via in-game controls fixes the crashing.
I still have a problem that was not discussed here!
Reflash the ROM and wipe cache and dalvik cache in Recovery. Reboot. Delete the data of the app that is misbehaving. Search the CyanogenMod 10.1 official nightlies // discussion thread to see if anyone has had this problem before you, and if there is a fix. If all of this fails, ask in that thread and someone will hopefully try to help you.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
I have moved on to a Sony Xperia Z. I will not trouble myself with keeping myself, the OP or the thread up to date. If you have very common problems and a solution, PM me and I'll update the OP. If you want to take over the management of this thread, PM me and we'll find a solution.
Happy flashing and bye!

True, All of the above answers are completely useless, because they have been answered countless times alerady. But still people ask them, sometimes the same question twice in the same thread page. But instead of flaming the questioners, yelling at them, i try to answer them in one, easy to find place. It is an experiment to see if maybe the original thread gets cleaner with this, and more efficient at solving the real problems as well as discussing issues and solutions. In my oppinion, telling people to tap the build number 7 times does not count as discussion...

How to get Root access of ADB on this CM 10.1 version?
How to get Root access of ADB on this CM 10.1 version?
On earlier CM version 10 there was "Developer options" in settings were I could simply change that, in "Root access" section.
My problem is that i get this: (shell has been denied superuser permissions) on my Samsung galaxy tab2 7.0 when trying to install app's wirelessly from my computer using "APK Batch Installer" that I found on the internet, ow and on the tab I use adbWireless app.
Typing "su" in terminal emulator and getting access to it doesn't work.
I am trying to solve this for few days and I just now found out that on CM 10 version everything would work if i would get ADB access, so I ended here asking for help. :fingers-crossed:
P.S. Sorry.. Writing this i didn't notice that this treat is for specifically one phone, that's because I googled this But any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you could ask the mods or TS in this thread to merge, add or link your OP.
It'll help that thread by just pointing queries to the OP.

It seems you are running PhilZ Kernel. This kernel seems to be broken and unable to flash. Flash Siyah or Dorimanx Kernel via ODIN, boot to Recovery and try again.

If you get problems installing cm10.1 using the leaked version of Samsung jelly beans insecure kernel. You don't have to flash a kernel using odin.. If you flash sky fires dream kernel.. Reboot recovery and install cm10.1 from this kernel.. Everything works great.
Dream kernel found here:

With all the issues I see I think I will keep my CM9 for long.
At least one of the mentioned problems has already been fixed:

this thread s completely useless... when we have a discussion thread and one development thread in original forum what was the necessity of this'd thread.. does q & a or discussion means different? think before starting a new thread..

I totally disagree. This thread not only save my time searching countless pages looking for my answer, it also prevented me spamming noob questions in the discussion/development thread. Thanks for the OP's effort for creating this thread. :good::good::good:

Sorry for the late answers, however, i have prewarned in the OP.... Have you given Root access to ADB? it is in the developer options.

It's not that bad. The only real problem atm is A2DP and bluetooth telephony. the ussues posted here are mostly unimportant or solvable.
