Prefer TouchFlo3D to the Xperia's panels interface although both have their benefits. It would however be nice to add customised tabs to TF3D the way the panels interface allows. Has anyone managed to do this yet? Take it that it would probably involve using a customised ROM. Would love to have custom tabs like the Google and Facebook panels as well as further ones for things like Live Messenger, Twitter, and Flickr.
Bump. Great idea

Yeah me too, I saw a video on Youtube the showed many other tabs, so someone has managed to do it. I just wish I could switch between them without so much trouble.
Good idea, would be nice!
Looks like T-mobile Germany have got something similar in mind:
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=int...opera-to-introduce-widgets-for-windows-mobile
I assume though that adding more tabs might possibly slow down TF3D?
there are a couple tabs located somewhere around, but it's not like you can add any tab you like. default tabs are 11, there are 15-tabs packages which add calendar, sound, comm manager and calls list. you can search here for 15 tabs and you'll find them.
and yes, to my experience the 15tabs slow down tf3d (but at boot time mainly, browsing through them is still fluid)
So there's no custom ones out there then? Shame HTC don't open up the code to encourage custom built tabs.

I had to switch to the Ozone from the Alltel Palm Treo Pro in order to make a change to my rate plan. Much faster phone than the Treo Pro. There are a few setbacks.
Let's see, what do I have installed?
Microsoft's Bing App
Facebook App
Google Maps
Youtube App
Thinking about Skyfire or Opera Mini
CHome Configuration (can't edit new panels... bummer)
I got my yahoo, gmail, & hotmail accounts synced with no problems.
I'd like to find a new alarm clock. Being able to create new documents would be sweet too.
Good phone. WinMo 6.5 could make it better.

Weather watcher is what I use, you have to use Chome Config to create a custom panel for it if you want the weather on your home screen though

I didn't do anything special. Just installed NRG Mini Chome Weather 1.3 + Monitor HTC Version.cab and chose the appropriate Home Screen layout. Awesome app, I love it. Much better than HTCWeather.
My problem is when I try to modify NRG's Home Screen to add the HTC Panels, they simply don't show up. Chome Config shows them as active, just not there. I'm assuming we need an updated version to work with updated HTC Panels on the Ozone.

i ran into the same issue with NRG's weather.

Hi, anyone tried magikb on the snap?

I'll be getting my snap early next month, cant wait
I use my WM device for work (currently TOUCH HD), and TASKS is one of the most important things I can think of for a work device.
I currently use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 which does a wonderful job with tasks (with the tasks widget).
What can one do with the HD2 to be able to work with tasks ?, the option that I heard given was to change a softkey in the main MANILA screen to link for a tasks program, but the big minus here that in order to see your tasks you have to press a button and wait for a program to load, while it is much more convenient and efficient to be able to see your tasks (and appointments) just upon device activation.
To top everything, HTC said they didn't give an option to disable MANILA on the HD2, so I'm not even sure it will be possible to use Mobile Shell 3.5 on that device, and even if someone will find a way to disable MANILA, I'm not sure you will be able to control the device well enough with the capacitive screen...
Without a convenient and effective way to use tasks, the HD2 will become just another leisure device, like the iPhone.
honestly what version of mailla has supported tasks? I cannot remember one that has...
Also the loading time of the tasks app for me is less than 2 seconds on the leo it should be near instant!
Also have they actually cut the tasks app out in which case whats above has been pointless?

I'm pretty sure it will be possible to use MS 3.5 on HD2, although I understand your point. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if (or should I say when ) someone comes with a solution.

I think no version. But for those of us who use the phone for work, and hence need tasks, they gave the wonderful option of defeating MANILA and installing a productive UI that support tasks.

It doesn't matter how fast it loads, it will never be as productive as pressing the "ON" key and seeing all your tasks immediately in front of you (HTC understood this need regarding appointments, but not tasks, what imbeciles...).
Moreover, I can guarantee that you will not be able to operate well WM tasks program on the HD2, I can hardly control it well on the HD with a resistive screen and my fingernail.

Again, you provide a solution that requires you to launch a program in order to see your tasks, this is dramatically less efficient than seeing the tasks right on your main screen.
I think we need to face it, MANILA is not productive, never was, never will be. It looks sweet and that's it. If you want to be productive, you won't sacrifice 50% of your main screen for a clock, leave 1 line for appointments, and zero lines for tasks (not to mention the idiotic idea of swiping your fingers miles in order to get to important features of the device, which is inaccurate, leads to errors, and makes it harder to use the device with one hand).
If I wanted a "closed environment" where people decide for me what I want to see and how I want it to be presented, I would have gone with an iPhone. WM devices suppose to be all about customization and free choice, but HTC completely misses the mark here in their desperate try to produce an "iPhone killer".

I've never had the tasks on my screen even now with Spb MS (MS Tasks are buggy on my TyTN II). So, I guess we all just have different ways of working and different needs in our phone. I actually never had my calendar on the main screen either because I don't want anyone to see at a glance who I was meeting with next (again, an individual requirement based on my job needs).
I believe the items at the bottom of the screen can be cherry-picked (maybe even reordered) for individual preferences.
While I haven't tried this phone, I see no negatives when compared to my 2-year old phone and several positives, including web browsing and speed. And I AM impressed with the eye-candy.
-Bob-
hey noam23
I don't like manila, not only because of tasks but just in general I think that spb ms does a better job of letting you customize.
I'm sure that someone will make it possible to turn it off and/or make it possible to run spb ms. that will be a crucial thing for me for sure.
I'm sure some
Before my Touch Pro went back to be fixed I had SPB set up as a soft key. I can't remember how I did it now but it was perfect for how I wanted it. It would be nice if you could add the SPB icon onto your main screen on the Leo.
So let me get this right: you want to be able to see tasks on your home tab. But Manila doesn't support them and you can't switch it off?
I think I have a solution for you: buy another phone! Simple isn't it?
a better solution is to replace the win6.5 lock screen with s2u2 it will show the tasks as soon as you turn on the phone

Me to. I have concerns about PI's usability on a capacitive screen. I use it on an even larger X7500 (albeit at 128 DPi) and it's pretty unworkable without a stylus.
I was going to get a Leo straight away but I think I need to wait for a few reports on how it gets on with these business style applications.
Of course you can disable sense/manila...
You can also use the new MS titanium or nothing at all if you want..
What kind of fool would think that you can't?
then get another phone, pretty simple. i need winmo for work so i couldnt get an iphone, u need tasks for work dont get the leo.
its amazing to me how much people complain about things that arent even out yet
Hmm can't there be a sort of Tasks Widget to be used with the Sense UI?
Why buy another phone? And why a Tasks widget? (the thing discussed is to having tasks ON the home screen(s). 'fards' say that SPBMS will work on HD2 so that is a pretty good solution
I think that when HTC says officially that the new manila was not like the olders and that will be impossible to disable, maybe this manila on hd2 have drivers or software running in background with the multitouch for other programs or so, so I dont think until I see that we will can use MS3.5 or similar as soon as we get the devce
I really like HD2, and with the New SMS Hotfix released today, it might be even better
But what do you REALLY want on the phone, that might come out?
For me, in order of how important:
1. Spotify official client
2. Companies like EA starting to develop big titles to Windows Mobile. We know HD2 is just an capable gaming device like the one Apple makes
3. A good Facebook Client (todays client is poor compared to iPhones)

I don't know if this would be considered as an feature thou
Google navigator.
I would like the random freezing to stop, especially coming out of unlock.
I'd love the lockscreen to have music access, its just easier to control from there instead of sliding to the specific tab in sense.
Also I'd really like a better windows live messenger program, its just so dated and old and if they could integrate push notifications on there that would be awesome, Facebook app needs to be improved seems like a half assed attempt because everyone phone was getting the app and they had to rush it.
Other than that, Im pretty happy with the phone at the momemnt, each time they update the software it seems like a brand new phone to me.
Im still waiting on whether wm7 is going to be put on the HD2 because the tasks, calendar, notes and whatever else needs to be updated.
Just to fix the flaws eg call volume too loud and distorts/crackles, screen switches back on making calls so your ear ends up pressing other functions, and text input glitch when pressin 12#
If these were fixed it would be the best phone on the market imo, but with them it's becoming extremely irritating
IMO it already is the "most awesome" phone ever. Sure, there are (or rather have been) some teething problems with the device but with the latest SMS hotfix released today it's near perfect (apart from the camera, but this issue was well publicized as a hardware problem before most of us purchased our phones - and yes, no matter what HTC are saying now, it is a hardware fault).
An official spotify client would be nice, but really I prefer to use the built in media player and store my music on the SD card. Spotify may not be around for much longer anyway if certain analysts are to be believed.
The FB client does suck, but it does what it's supposed to - more or less. Even on the iPhone I tend not to use the app but go directly to the website. Unless all you're doing is changing your status or uploading a photo it's just as fast (and should you do a status update or share a photo there are better ways than the app anyhow - I do miss having the ability to add a caption using the MS Uploader though).
So far I haven't come across any apps I need (or want) that are not available on WM, and while the iPhone does have a uniform look, UI wise, the fact WM does not is perhaps a good thing as it allows for more variety. If anything I wish MS would come up with a standard set of skinnable controls so that applying a theme to the phone would change the entire experience - I have a feeling this is in WM7 (to some extent).
Of course, there are ways to make it even more awesome, such as a better battery life, TV out, USB host capabilities, second camera (video calls / webcam) etc, but really it doesn't matter due to the 4.3" screen we do have - that, and the processor, is what makes this device what it is. Without the larger screen it would have been just another phone. By the time WM7 is available we'll likely get another handset with all the features above, the large screen and hopefully Nvidia Tegra
I'd be happy with it if they'd just fix all the damn bugs.
The only things that I want are tv-out and a larger capacity battery. Everything else is spiffy

Technology is constantly moving, expect a new handset from HTC by the end of the year that blows away the HD2...
It currently is already an awesome handset with some slight quirks/bugs that need rectifying but it will quickly be caught up by other manufacturers and also by HTC itself...

Have a look at PLToggle (in my signature). It's not an automatic program that rotates the display when you rotate the device, but it allows all programs to rotate with a long-press on the call button (to the rotation of your choice).
That might help

I sort of agree. The HD2 would be better if everything worked properly. As a device it's better, but because my iphone 3G worked flawlessly it didn't cause me so many headaches, and therefore could be considered better
The main kicker for me would be the battery life.
If I could get about 2 days average use out of the phone that'd be perfect.
It's not happened to me yet but if I desperately needed to make a call at about 4:30pm I can see myself not having enough battery left. What are mobile phones for after all?
I just want it to do everything good without freezing
Hi to all,
Can anyone write his first impressions from his legend ?
As far as speed, user friendly, battery life, even comfort in your pocket...
plz ..
Thaks...
Sitting with both the Legend and Sony Ericsson X10 in my hands now...
Allways tought the X10 would become my new phone, but its most likely to be discarded in favour of the Legend.
Screen is simply (quietly) brilliant. It feels very fast and responsive. The entire system feels fast (In comparison to the 1Ghz processor of the SE, which feels the opposite.. slow).
I like the compact size of it, the metal and the weight.
The battery is so, and so... a day and a half.. As expected.
And we all know and love Sense!
Its so perfect in many ways!!
Only thing I missed, that was on the Hero, is the dedicated answar/hang up button.
But on the other side, reason why I never used Hero much, was because the button was hard to press ( lowered into the case/small).
Legends button are great to use!
For me, the Legend is everything I hoped the X10 to be...
(PS! Im not a great review writer, but I got access to every phone there is, and the Legend is so far my Desire )
Hi.
I have used Legend for a few days now, and so fare I just love it. I also have used HD2 for 6 weeks now, but it´s so buggy so I guess Legend will take it´s place for me
The screen has brilliant colors, and like TakenName said, it is really fast.
I sync with Exchange and that works perfect.
The browser is fast and after installing a task-manager and a file-browser I really feel it is a complete phone.
Also it feels really great. Alu. body and glass in front of the screen + the optical mouse gives a very good feeling.
The battery is like all phones with fast cpus and big screens. I charge it every night, but usually the battery has about 70% left (always charge my phones every night).
It´s the first time I use Android since I am a hardcore iPhone user, but after using iPhone for 3 years, I wanted to try something else and I bought first HD2 and then Legend. Guess the Legend will stay and the iPhone 3GS and the HD2 will be sold
The legend like most android phones is fairly rapid, compared to the HD2 its just about on par but thats because of the OS. If i compare the legend to the desire its slower the more apps you open and what you do. After saying that the legend is still a damn good phone and i wouldnt say just because it lacks ram and processors its not a good phone because it is a very good phone. a nice upgrade from a hero
To you guys who already have the Legend .. do you think the aluminium case is easy scratchable?
Thx
hi gandalf
the aluminium case should be thougher to scratches, not that it is scratch resistent, but learning from how the body of macbook, we should be fine
im having problem with battery life, the same usage with nexus on CM Mod 5.0.5.3, it drains faster
There are beautiful games for this phone?
My fist impressions (coming from Topaz):
Pros:
- Very nice and agile experience (no estrange pauses like in windows mobile)
- Nice Customizations:
- Widgets: as THC Sence elements
- Icons: applications, contacts, direct "call to" and navigate icons,....
- Very clear and bright screen (compared with Topaz) easy to read small fonts
- Several quality details:
- Ex: multiple sources for contacts (Google, Exchange, Facebook,….)
- Ex: uses the optical mouse to turn off screen during conversation.
-Compass: really nice feature to use with Google Maps. Not used by GPS navigators at the moment.
Cons:
- New amazing applications not available jet: Google Navigator, Layar,...
- Phisical buttons are too hard to push. Maybe will be broken in some months.
- No good GPS Navigator (coming from Tomtom):
-I tried Sygic and Copilot: TomTom much easier to use and better calculating routes. Graphics in Sygic and Copilot are not so easy to follow.
-Something extremely horrible: with TomTom in windows mobile it is easy to call and receive calls during navigation. This does not work as easy in Legend/Android; even when Android is multitasking, navigators uses to crash.
-Not possible to define different sound notification for sms and mails. This is a small functionality but nice to have.
-Multiconference: it is complex to do in Legend. Need to click a lot of buttons.
-HTC Sync: very limited to synchronize data. Luks like developed too fast:
-Only syncs contacts and calendar.
-Oftenly requires PC reboot and/or PDA reboot
-Can synchronize more than 2 pcs (I tested 3 at least) This is nice.
-No video conference. I do not use this feature, but is nice to have.
Hope will be usefull to possible buyers
I have been using the legend for the past week or so and really impressed with it. I am a bit of a geek and have the HD2 and the X10 also. I am also the minority that loves the HD2 and hates the iPhone. I still find the HD2 more usable on a day to day basis but the legend family close did to the sense UI. the X10 on the other hand is not money well spent....

Totaly true! Thanks Omeac!! I modified sms notifications in menu/settings/notification, but email notification is not available opening email and selecting menu/settings/notification (at least in my rom or with imap mail :?) I only find these 3 options:
-Enhable notification
-Enhable sound notification
-Enable vibrate
I used the general notification settings (programs/settings) to email and boths notifications works fine.
I expected to find both setting in programs/settings like in windows mobile. Still Legending myself
Just for curiosity, my rom is 2.1 kernel 2.6.29-9a3026a7
No problem
Do you know you can also have your own notifications for email and sms, if you create a notifications folder on your SD card, put the sounds you want in there, reboot the phone, when you next go to notifications in those applications, your own sounds will appear in the list along with the HTC sounds.

Do you know you can also have your own notifications for email and sms, if you create a notifications folder on your SD card, put the sounds you want in there, reboot the phone, when you next go to notifications in those applications, your own sounds will appear in the list along with the HTC sounds.

Yes, thanks, I red about that. Should be in the product documentation. I use an application called Rings Extended to select custom ring tones and notifications. I installed before disconvering your trick. Works fine but I prefere your trick (cleaner for the operating system, I guess)
