Edit:
It says "Fatal server error: no screens found".. What should I do??
Edit2:
got it typed "gnome-session &" (I love you google ) and it seems to load gnome (at this time only Background Image).. Crossing fingers
Edit3:
Now grey bars at top and bottom, maybe it hangs, but hopefully it just starts slowly..
Edit4:
should it take so long??
Edit5:
yep it takes that long, desktop is build very slowly but this is still some crazy ass **** btw. enough edits for now
My desktop was created in few seconds. But I was working with some old and modified Ubuntu version.
I was working with this instructions: http://nexusonehacks.net/nexus-one-hacks/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-your-nexus-oneandroid/ on 2.2 android version.
I hope this would help you (sorry because my bad English).

I ve` tried linux installer recently and it worked. I installed debian, in my oppinion this is the easiest way, you just choose which distribution, size of the loop.img and where to install and that is it.

i'm a total beginner in these things of smartphones, but i'd really like to upgrade it and put a 2.2 or 2.3 version of android, but i'm not so sure how to do it
i searched for topics and guides here but none of them were too clear of them, and any of them were for my especific telephone
so i'm asking the obvious haha, anyone could help me and post a step to step guide for installing a custom rom in this especific cell phone? please, i kinda hate this right now, i can't install anything XD
and well if not, or in addition, if someone wants to help me step by step through pms or msn or somethign like that, it would be great too!
and well, the last one, if i can get a guide to do it, wich rom could you recommend me? to get all the potential of this cell phone XD hah
well, that's all, hope you can help me, i know a lot of guys ask the same, but i didn't see any for this lg...

Guide for unlocking fastboot and flashing custom roms.
http://androidforums.com/optimus-gt...nogenmod-7-android-2-3-4-avaliable-gt540.html
My app root toolbox will flash a recovery image, all download links in my signature.
For root access use z4root. Don't update to 2.1 because z4root doesn't work on some versions of it.
Also have a look here before you change roms/unlock fastboot

Hey there
Nice to see you're still on 1.6 , We really need your help right now!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123968
If you haven't already rooted , Follow these steps :
1. Download http://bit.ly/9wAKC5 and transfer to phones SD Card
2. Download Astro File Manager in Market (Or any other file manager)
3. Open the file manager and locate the application you downloaded
4. Click on the File and Install the Universal Androot .apk
5. Run Universal Androot and select Superuser for 2.0 - 2.2
6. Click 'Go Root'
7. Follow any restart prompts
8. Go back into market and download Terminal Emulator
9. Follow the instructions from the CODE box on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123968
10. The files will be created in the backup1.6 folder on the SD
11. Using a computer, .ZIP these files and upload them to the filesharing site of your choice
12. Share the link to us
13. Be very proud of yourself, you've helped us all
Then after , I would install 2.1 using LG Software Updater (Easiest Method)
But EVERYTHING is deleted , Including contacts and SMS when doing so. To backup contacts , click Contacts , Press Menu and press Export then Export to SD
To backup SMS I recommend SMS Backup and Restore from Market.
Hope I helped Jamie
haha okei, i'll try to do that so i can give you a recovery imagine of 1.6
and you told me to upload to official 2.1 android through lg site,, i am known that 2.1 is just, mmm , as 1.6 XD i mean, you have problems to install things in the sd, and many apks does not work, and the flash is dead x.x haha
but well, i'll do that first before upgrading to another version!

There are some dual-boot threads in the android development sub-forum here that might help you. I played with one in the past just to easily boot between stock & cm7 on an sd card, and it worked fine until i started messing with different updates which re-wrote the uboot that was using. Since the NC boots first off of the uSD card, you might consider just installing android to emmc and run ubuntu off of the uSD for now (or vice-versa). You should just have to pop out the SD card to boot into android. I have to admit I'm not really familiar with the latest in honeycomb & ubuntu news (CM7 ftw) so I'm not 100% certain that would work, but I'm not aware of a reason why not.
"installing android to emmc and run ubuntu off of the uSD"
Good suggestion, pony.
Since I've already installed CM7 on eMMC, I now want to run Puppy Linux on the uSD.
If anyone who read my post, know the Linux installation guide or links from other side, pls drop a line. Appreciate.
Thanks guys let me know if you figure anything out
[WIP] [DEV] [HOWTO] Ubuntu on Nook Color! UPDATE 1/5/11
It works but very sluggish on my sandisk 8gb class4 card. But it is still pretty amazing to have ubuntu running on the nook! Good luck.

Hi there, onto my third Android device (Rooted Zte Blade and Rooted Hanspree Hansspad) and I know find myself stuck sorting my new Defy out. I've rooted it with superoneclick and have hit a wall with 2nd Init Recovery, mainly because it seems to have vanished! It's not on market or Appsbrain. Can anyone help?
I plan on using CM7.1 (I use it on my Blade and love its stability) and was also thinking of duel booting with the latest nightly of CM9. I knew one of these days I was going to struggle with rooting one of these, the first two were stupidly easy!
If anyone could help it would be massively appreciated! Oh, and it's my first post because I'm switching from MoDaCo, don't get me wrong, they are cool, but they have barely anything on the Defy and everyone knows you guys rock!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028427
Use this first. Then install Rom Manager and from it install CM7.1 It will aslo install latest 2nd init boot and latest CWM
Have Fun with Defy
BTW:
I have it today also xD
Thanks a lot! Especially for the speedy reply! Now I have to really turn my brain on, ADB Shell is not my favourite thing!
developer.android.com^sdk/index.html
(change ^ to /)
install ADB from here then use this tutorial :
wiki.cyanogenmod.com^wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK
(change ^ to /)
Then other rest is easy as hell
I've got ADB and Java already installed. thing is, when in CMD i type adb shell and it comes out with
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Man I hate cmd stuff!
My Android SDK folder is in my root C drive so I am currently in
c:\AndroidSDK>
Any help?
"In the "Variable values" section, add at the very end the location of the tools & package-tools folder, with a semicolon separating these two paths from the rest, e.g. %SystemRoot%;C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools;C:\android-sdk-windows\tools."
This should help
EDIT :
But watch your path to SDK's. My path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools
Your's should be same. DON'T DELETE ANY PATH !! Only ADD this two to the rest.
More easy, try this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212&highlight=2nd+init ;-)
2nd init on defy+
Hey, guys! Im a newbie here, soon celebrating one month with my first android phone, an mb256 running 2.3.6. I've just rooted and I'm planning to flash MIUI on it, but I'm not sure if 2nd init is compatible with my device. Just don't want to get locked out or something if anything goes wrong.
Also, does anyone about a good guide for flashing MIUI on my device?
Hi,
I have also a MB526 running 2.3.6 and the SndInitDefy_2.0.apk works perfectly on my device. Enjoy! ;-)
Thanks! Works great!
Any tips on how to install MIUI (Galnet ICS stable)?^^
I have an Acer Iconia A500 running ICS (Rooted) but I can't figure out why it isn't flashing in Custom Roms... I know how and have while I still had HC. Anybody help I've read a couple fourms saying that I need to change my boot loader. But that requires me knowing my CPUID which I don't know... I found a program called Afterota v1.0.9 on here downloaded it and then double clicked on the icon it asks me if I want to allow the following program form an unknown publisher to make changes to my computer. I click yes nothing happens... HELP PLEASE!

1. So hopefully you have cwm installed and will be able to find your cpuid the easy way. In the backup folder of cwm is a txt file that holds your cpuid. Write this number down and save it in multiple locations if u need to....if you still cant get it then try one of these methods http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25429111#post25429111
2. Acer Drivers from the acer site
3. Google drivers from the android sdk (attached in link above)
at a guess from the info you provided, the issue maybe the number one thing that stops everyone in their tracks - having the drivers installed....correctly...have a good read of that post
