My X8/E15i was actually bought in China and came with chinese input that was actually quite good. Unfortunately the stock firmware did not allow Google account sync or market access.

i have one that worked well! do you still need it?

hey me too from hk im another person who can confirm after install ce-star 2.8 rc3 with crack can write in japanese with i have not try if it works with keyboard because my version just make the keyboard not working and hard to hard reset but if it is just handwritting is alright
If you need only Japanese, the best solution is Asukal's LetsJapanNo6 (Japanese font) + IME_31J_F (input panels), plus a few reg edits to get the keyboard working. It will give you fully functional Japanese + English input (hardware keyboard, softkeyboard, handwriting). Search around, or follow the link below to get started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441402
* Note: the two cabs are standard for whatever (W)VGA device you install it on, but you may need to experiment with the reg edits since the X1 may behave differently than the TouchPro.
If you also need Chinese and/or Korean input, you will need to look for a different solution, such as CEStar.
Mahalos for the reply guys/gals Yes, I need to be able to read and write/type in Japanese because of the field I'm working in now. This is the first time I'm "kinda hacking" my phone...Don't wanna brick it because I'm no rich man
Just out of curiosity; anyone using Japanese IME on their X1?
Okay...I got the Japanese IME installed and "kinda" working. What I mean by that is:
1. I can no longer use my Qwerty board
2. I can't "backspace" if I make any mistakes
3. My Optical pad is now disabled
Does anyone have a workaround to this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1429764#post1429764
check this link, there you find the answer ... you have to change some regestry-settings. .. bcz the layout is messed ... just take TotalCommander to do so and after that everything will just work nice ...

The IME_31J_F cab makes registry changes that are intended for JPN phones (not WWE) because the cab is extracted from original Japanese ROMs. If you look at the link in my post above, you'll see the reg settings you need to change back.
Again, you should make a backup because I don't have an X1 to test it personally. You might not need all of the reg edits, or a different combination of the WWE reg settings and JPN reg settings. But those settings work perfectly for the Touch Pro, so they should be a good start for the X1.

Hi cmant
How is the japanese kanji handwriting recognition?
I just ordered a Xperia X1 and I really need to install japanese IME on it. Would really like to hear about those who tried that.

Thank for your answer.
I have 2 questions:
1-For kanji handwriting recognition do you have to write the strokes in the right order? That would be a real drawback for me since I don't know the stroke order of the that kanji I don't know!
2-And what do you mean by bundled? Is it included with the xperia X1? Where did you buy it?

t9 phonekeypad keyboard

Are there any available for the nexus? I had touch input on my mytouch 3g. Wondering if it will work on this phone.
Thanks
T9 is also my preferred method of input
I believe "Better Keyboard" (available on the market place) has this feature. I think it may be non-free though.
It'll be one of the first apps I get.
Guys the HTC-IME has three keyboards, phone T9 being one of them.
I downloaded it from here: http://drop.io/p12auxn#
You can also try TouchPal, it's not on the market but this is the beta (for high-res screens)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/m2kiccd1llw/TouchPal.apk
Thanks for both those links guys.

N1 Chinese Handwriting Input

Bought a N1, and found that it is a very good PDA phone.
I sometimes need to type Chinese. As I don't know other input method, I used handwriting input in my previous phone. After searching for a while, I still cannot locate any Writing Input for N1.
Is any brother here know the any app for this (if this exist)?

Further discussion about chinese handwritting input can be found under the topic "HTC CIME anyone?" in Nexus One Themes and Applications. (can't post link due to new user)

Just saw it on a HK forum that someone managed to get the handwriting input rip from an Acer liquid to work ...
Check out this thread which I posted the link to download the Acer Liquid handwriting apk.

Anyone use Sogou ime and can help me with settings...??

Hi all, I am using sogou's mobile ime and its pretty darn good (I also like their full ime) and would like to be able to use the full qwerty keyboard but am having trouble finding the right setting adjustment... mainly cos its all in Chinese and my Chinese is not quite good enough to find the right setting... yet.... can anyone help me find the right settings to reconfigure... Chinese is fine as it will help me recognise the right items to click on... thanks in advance...

How to change the keyboard?

I don't know if this is an Arc issue or a Gingerbread issue... But I really prefer using Smartkeyboard Pro, but I see no way to enable it. Even though it's checked in the Settings screen, I can't actually replace the stock keyboard.
Any tips?
long press on the area where your text is and you should be able to select your keyboard.
D'oh! Thanks. I'm too used to the way I did it before - long press on the "1 2 3" key.
Any idea or link to download HTC Ime pad for Xperia Arc? Really miss this one? Thanks.

Haven't tried that, but Swype doesn't work for me. Tells me that it was not made for this device and that it has limited functionality. Limited meaning it behaves just like the default input and not a Swype input.

Swype signed an exclusivity agreement with samsung or motorola, some nonsense like that. You can use an alternative tools, like nuance flext9:
http://www.reghardware.com/2011/03/01/app_of_week_android_flext9/
i replaced my keyboard with the smart keyboard pro and it works a charm was also really happy that I could change its skin to a black keyboard. excellant quality

Swype works if I install the full package (10mb) rather than just English/Spanish.
