Bootloader Mode?? - EVO Shift 4G General

Alright I've tried searching for this, I swear - and just a few minutes ago, I was still trying, but I got a "forum search unavailable, try again in 20-30 minutes" - also tried Google and found nothing.
SO, my question is: how do I get the HTC Evo Shift 4G in to Bootloader mode, if my phone is NOT rooted?
The story is this: I've been trying various one-touch temproots and none worked for me (visionary+, z4, etc...). My phone always just rebooted. So I read somewhere that if you check the box, in Visionary+, to "temproot on boot" you'll be good to go. Well, now my phone boots up, is slow for a couple of minutes, then reboots. And if I check ConnectBot - I'm NOT rooted, even if I try "su" (with SuperUser installed) - I just get permission denied.
After lots of quick finger work I've uninstalled Visionary Plus, but the phone is still slow. If I'm not rooted, how can I get in to Bootloader mode so I can flash the stock image back on to the phone?
p.s. - where can I find the stock image? I went about 10 pages deep in this general forum and couldn't find it, and it's not on HTC's or Sprint's websites.
Nu

Hold vol down and hold the power key at the same time to turn it on
Edit: goto the android dev section and they have the ruu for the stock image...

+Thank you, JKILO.
For other's reference as well: to stop my phone from the endless reboots (after I FINALLY got Vionary+ Uninstalled {I had to try about 3-4 times, I kept saying "unsuccesful"}), I actually just did a MANUAL "Power Off" of the phone and powered it back on, instead of just letting it endlessly reboot hoping that one time it would be stable.

[Q] Need help with semi/soft brick!

So my Vibrant has been turning off randomly. I think its because of the loose battery or maybe it's just over-heating. But a few days ago, after turning it on there is only a black screen and lit capacitive buttons at the bottom.
It boots up normal, with the vibrant name, t-mobile animation, and the Galaxy S boot animation, then black screen! This started to happen after a few reboots, and now it won't rebbot properly, just black screen. It seems like I have to restore my phone, but the problem is I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode! Please advise.

First of all, there's no such thing as semi brick, there's brick or not. Try installing your Rom again..
Dan0zone don't be rude man,.backup your apps, enter recovery more delete all user data, if after that you have the same problem restore, or keep trying to enter download mode, try different methods

Do this bro... just tested it myself, works fine...
get adb installed on your computer, should already have it if your rooting but if not get it, youll find it in the stickied thread for informative links in the development section.
get a cmd prompt open on your computer and type in
>adb devices
let it start up deamon and it will tell you device not found, its ok.
now type and have ready...
>adb reboot recovery (do NOT press enter yet)
start your phone like normal. before its even finished with the boot up tmobile animation and the galaxy s (but after the plain vibrant text/picture) logo press enter. if it says error: device not found then wait all the way till galaxy s only you did it too early...
screen will go black and reboot into standard recovery... hope to goodness you had a working clockwork recovery installed and nandroid ready for this next part...
go down using your volume keys and select reinstall packages using the power key
now in clockwork recovery go down to nandroid
now go to restore
go to your earliest back up and restore it.
there you go.
I would start fresh get odin set up and reinstall the original rom at this point as something may still be corrupted, reroot, install latest clockworkmod, latest vibrant 9 rom (im using and see no bugs and runs better then the vibrant 6 rom i had) and DONT install the lag fix until the newest "TRUE" lag fix comes out with the new file system and kernel that JAC is working on and has almost ready.
good luck and pm me if any of these steps need further explanation.
Pypanys thanks for that post, I learn something new but he said its bootsup normally, but it goes to a black screen after the boot logo he can enter recovery mode, same thing happen to me. I was opening maps and it crashed, it frooze the phone, to I restarted the phone and enter recovery amd deleted user apps, and it did the fix,

hes just stated man that he cant even get into recovery, my guess is hes locked out using the volume up/down keys like many new phones are (which btw is a known defect, spend 10min on the phone with tmobile doing thier trouble shooting to show them it doesnt work and they send you a replacement..) sooooo I gave him a way to get into recovery without the buttons and not having to wait till he gets to a black screen where possibly its frozen and he cant use adb commands.
I was just making mention to you also that he cant even back stuff up NOW (hopefully he already archived all his apps and data) and hes better off starting fresh since hes getting problems using his current rom/lagfix....
Thanks for the quick reply p()()pypants, but i will have to try your method later. It's late and I have class (college) tomorrow, but i will post my results soon. Thank you again.
Edit 1:
Btw, is there a way to back up my current rom? Like the way rom manager back up roms? I know my current rom works before so that's why I want to back it up.
Edit 2:
Actually i did not use adb to root my phone, just used the one click method. So can you please give me more detailed instructions on how to install/use adb?
Okay, I typed in "adb reboot recovery" and press enter as my phone booted up during the t-mobile animation and at the Galaxy S boot animation. Neither time work. Then I reentered it again after the black screen. That did not work either. CMD keeps on returning "error: device not found" and the phone stays on with the black screen.

Do you have the right drivers installed? You can check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Another very stupid question, just to cover all bases - your phone is plugged into the computer, correct? When you install the new drivers, try plugging the phone into a different USB port on the computer than you've been using, so it will hopefully pick up the new drivers without much extra effort.
If that doesn't help, just keep trying the command while the phone boots up. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will work. Sorry I don't have any real solution for you :\
I'm fairly sure I have the right drivers, otherwise I wouldn't be able to root in the first place. Yes, the phone is plugged in also. I'll try a different USB port and see what happens...
Update: Trying different USB ports does not help.

[Q] I am very stuck - Please Help Me

Hi All,
OK, I am both new and stuck, I have read every page in the unlocking Atrix thread and the one click root thread but I still do not know what is wrong.
I started off by running the one click root listed here, the root went fine and seemed to work, so I proceeded to install ROM Manager but when I tried to back up my phone the process failed.
I googled the error and it turned out that I did not unlock the Boot Loader, so I followed all the instructions that explained how to do it and nothing worked.
Thinking something must have gone wrong I went back to the one click root tool and unrooted my phone, I checked and everything was working and the phone seemed fine.
So then I started down the longer process of unlocking/rooting here , following the steps to the letter and here is where I come unstuck.
I have a UK carrier free phone so after downloading and installing the RSD Lite software I used the SBF_Flash file but when I selected this file the “Start” button remained greyed out.
I researched this issue and found the international flash called intl-fix-try1.sbf, this file looked like it was going to work, the start button became clickable and the process looked ok.
Once I clicked start the flashing started and percentage done went straight up to 98% in a matter of seconds, then as per the instructions the phone reboots but starts to reboot fully, the process % resets and starts from zero going up in increments of 3%, by the time the process is at 65% my phone has fully booted and is sitting at the lock screen, if I leave it there the process will go up to 100% but the status will still say "in progress" until I swipe the lock screen and then it says complete.
I was doubtful that the root had worked but just to make sure I proceeded to move the phone into Fastboot mode and go through the OEM Unlock process but once I have typed in fastbook oem unlock and hit enter the command prompt just comes up with a message waiting for device to respond and nothing more.
Please help as I am really stuck, I followed your guide to rooting my Galaxy tab 10.1 and had it sorted in minutes, my ICS rom installed and everything backed up via ROM Manager so I am not a total dummy.
Any suggestions?
Kind Regards
Chris
when you tried to flash the sbf on rsd lite did you have the phone pluged into the pc and have it put into rsd lite mode
prolly not if you still seen the lock screen
turn phone off then turn on by holding power button down and volume down
when u see fastboot word on the atrix use volume down to scroll to rsd mode then hit volume up and proceed with rsd lite and the sbf
Here might explain it little more..
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
That is exactly what I did, I have just done it again now . . . .
I clicked start
The console/flash starts,
The phones screen goes black,
Then the Red Motorola M appears
The flash progress jumps to 98%
Console Status says something about USB Pass through/phone rebooting
Then reboots and the Red Motorola M appears again
Then progress carries on and goes up and at 16% by now the phone is now fully in its boot process and by 26% it is at the swipe screen
I have the phone in USB debug mode and the usb connection set to mass storage. Could I be using the wrong SBF file?
Thanks
I have tried that method as well as it is uses a different sbf file called zomgunocklite.sbf when I use that file I an error saying sec_exception: febe, 35, 35 I googled that and it came up with a similar issue but it did not help.
So since my first post I have been speaking to ltdanno360 on here, I just wanted to take the time out to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU.
He has taken me through getting my phone back to a usable state and then all the way through fixing up with the latest bits and pieces.
I have taken up a good few hours of his time and I am now a very, very happy Atrix owner.
It is people like ltdanno360 that make this forum and the internet community such an amazing place. Just imagine driving home from work one day and you car breaks down on the freeway, a stranger stops and spends two hours of his day fixing your car before sending you on your way.
Things like that do not happen often in the real world but people like Danno are great examples of what humanity often misses.
Big Thanks Bro

A500 suddenly died

Hi all,
I thought I'd consult the brains trust to see if anyone thinks this is salvageable. Was using my A500 about 2 hours ago, suddenly the screen powered off. Thinking nothing of it, I held down the power button to restart it. When powering back on, nothing appears to happen except for the power button lighting up. No screen on, no vibe, nothing except the power light on.
Tried power cycling a few times to no avail. Tried the reset button. Tried the Vol+ Power and Rotation switch reset. Nothing.
Out of morbid curiousity, I plugged it into the PC and switched it on and I get an APX driver being installed. So, clearly something is happening here.
It has done this once before and came back to life of its own accord very shortly afterwards, this time it's been dead for quite some time.
Any suggestions? It's well out of warranty now, so I doubt Acer would be interested in it at all.

In the Dev threads, or possibly Q&A, there is a thread called "stuck in APX mode". In there I believe are some steps to see if you can recover.
But, if you're in APX mode, you could probably try NVFlashing the bootloader and recovery the old fashioned way manually.
But look up that APX thread first. Will probably have the answer. I'll see if I can find it in a little while, if you don't find it first.

Thanks MD. I looked up the threads you suggested, and after a lot of screwing around I have installed the APX drivers and used blackthund3r's APX Flash Util 0.3 (The link is broken to the current version) to attempt a recovery of my tab.
Its now sitting at an Acer screen, "Entering Acer Download Mode" while the flash util is sitting at:
Nvflash started
[resume mode]
It's been there for about 10 minutes now, no progress to report. Is it worth just sitting it out, or now that the damn tab shows SOME signs of life, can I just restart it and reset to factory?
And then most bizarre of all. I declared no progress, rebooted it. It went back to APX mode.
Re-ran the blackthund3r tool, it didnt do much so I bailed that. Restarted tab and attempted to load recovery (vol + and power) and it booted normally.
What the hell...

Gee. Sounds exactly like mine....
The only thing I haven't tried is an update .zip, but I don't hold out much hope.
Considering parting out at this point....
Yeah, I dont have high hopes that it will last a whole lot longer. Up to this point it has been running Acer OTA updates only, no custom ROMs and no root.
I restarted the tab a little while ago and it went back into APX mode again and stayed there. Some more furious button mashing and attempted restore-mode boots, and it booted normally.
I made the point of wiping it this time using the Vol+ & Power & Rotation Lock trick and its been ok so far.

I have a cousin in Jamaica. She might possibly help (chicken foot and some frogs blood...voodoo you know)
Here's What I think.
You got some corrupt data or a partially bad devblock. This might explain the strange behavior on boot.
Like the tab really doesn't know how to boot.
Personally I would do 1 of 2 things at this point. Either;
1. Root that thing, and try running Timmy Deans root back to 3.2. This should reset your partitions back to normal. Then work your way back to an ICS rooted, Bootloader, and custom rom.
2. Leave it alone, and don;t turn the tab off. Clearly some partitions are messed up at this point. The toggle of the lock usually wipes user data. But the core issue is still there.
If it were me, I would pull out the nuclear missile and go for it all.

First, is this a SOD?
I can kill it by booting into recovery and get it back by using Blackthunder flash tool to go into APX and letting it sit for 20 minutes or so. Close the program, unplug, reboot and it is back. I would like to use timmiedean (td) and go back to square 1, but it fails at the image detect ( displays ICS 4.0.3 Civato as the current image, a red X for the new image). Has td been proven to work reverting from ICS? Will a boot recovery reflash and a new ROM flash solve this? Is there another way to get out of ICS back to HC?
Any suggestions/comments welcome!
EDIT: I flashed FLEXxx V4. Shut it off, problem still there....
Really frustrated. Trying to use the timmiedean tool, but it requires that the unit be shut off in the middle of the process, which kills it. Does anyone know the whereabouts of the blackthund3r revert tool, or the .apx package for his flash tool. I can't find it...
I'm done with this one. On Ebay for parts.... GONE!!!

[Q] My phone is dead on stock...(due to rooting/unlocked failure?) Please help!

Hello XDAers,
I am a real noob at rooting or android-related, and a true one voided of any knowledge regarding anything IT- related.
So dear veterans, please go easy on me.
Due to my prior success of rooting and flashing my Nexus 4 successfully a few months back with no issues, I decided to give it a try to flash a custom ROM for my dad's LG Optimus L7 - which seemed an easy task compared to configuring my Nexus 4 - since there was no need for inputting any command lines or any dealing with the abd (using the easy shortcut, that is).
So, I followed the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906133 ...
I first factory resettled the phone because it was bloated, then applied the "RunMe.bat" from the "What you desire!" folder. (Everything was already backed-up beforehand.) But the process didn't success until I've retried again and again by re-plugging the USB in because the application/PC couldn't detect the phone. In the same time, I was running KDZ_FW_UPD.exe in the background, so unexpectedly for me the phone shut itself and pushed itself to a vividly green emergency screen, then in a few seconds switched back to a screen of purple-white-blue glitches. I had to close KDZ_FW_UPD.exe without knowing what quite happened since it seemed to be the cause and restarted the process with RunMe.bat.
I didn't manage to "Restore" it first due to the fact that the phone stopped responding due to a lag asking for an encryption key. It was lagging so hard and I had to close the cmd around 5 tries while it was processing, but succeeded later on.
And then, to verify whether I've actually suceeded in rooting L7, I installed Root Checker from the Play Store. And again, for the first few tries the program froze on screen for a long period of time due to "system performance", but after rebooting and restarting the app a few times again, the ROOTING proves to be a success. Just to be sure, around this time I've reloaded KDZ_FW_UPD.exe and it suceeded.
So I went to install CWM and ES. CWM for recovery boot and ES for removing pre-installed system apps as the phone was lagging so badly. I've downloaded the CWM restoring(something like ~6.0.28?) first and tried fastbooting immediately right after, but instead of getting the fastboot menu I got a screen emptied in black with these words:
[5020] "Secure booting error"
[5020] "Cause: boot certification verify"
No hard keys could do anything on the presumed "fastboot", and so I had to hard boot again. I thought that it might be due to the lack of memory(checked on ES later on that it was 310~MB/2GB), and so I've used ES to uninstall a lot of system apps which I deemed uneccessary. So I've Googled a bit and it became apparent to me that that I've didn't unlock the device properly, so lurked around and found a file called L7CWM that is supposedly to resolve my problem, but I presume that it's the CWM recovery image that I've installed. So in the end, I didn't bother with it but kept it on tab just in case.
I repeated the same process with CWM again, but this time, the screen was joined with all kinds of flowery glitches. Restarted the device, and it went only downhill: now the Home launcher stayed all pitch black and nothing appeared. I waited a few minutes, but nothing there until the notification bar appeared. The home screen is apparently dead, and so are the menu keys. Switched to Nova Launcher(installed it just in case Home Launcher fails), and still dead. I couldn't access using any of the menu keys and had unusable launchers.
Hopefully I could still access to the settings from my status bar, but when I did, it started crashing immediately.
I've repeated the attempt a few times after restarting the device a few times, but nothing helped. It only got worse that the when the launcher did SEEM to work. It only showed the wallpaper without showing any of the icons/apps. And crashes again.
I could still access to the App menu via the settings, but couldn't open any of them and when I tried to uninstall them, the screen frozes immediately right after I gain access to the page (white page though) and gain this message: "Unfortunately Package Uninstaller Stopped!"
Then I convinced myself that the only thing I could do at the time was to factory reset the phone and then everything would go alright since I've just had to restore the system apps.
But then the black screen of death came right along with it:
"Secure booting error"
It seems that I'm out of luck... ... But just to check if I'm still left with resorts, I've downloaded the L7CWM file online...
... ...but it still didn't help.
So now I'm being left with no other choices other than asking for help. I never really understand what KDZ_FW_UPD.exe does since I had the LG Driver already before installing it, which I presume was for updating the phone to a newer or older version. And too complex tech articles are kind of alien for me.
EDIT(1 hour later): Okay, now I figured out the reason why L7CWM didn't work was because I didn't extract it to the right folder (after double checked via notepad that I was supposed to directly put it into the C:\ drive). Now it worked(?), but then it didn't.
After launching Flash_Bootloader.bat:
This message now appeared on the L7:
"Sorry!"
"SuperSU is not responding.
Would you like to close it?"
"Wait - Report - Close"
and a few minutes later
"Sorry!"
"Unfortunately, SuperSU has stopped."
"Report - OK"
Now I think the bugs till now happened was due to the fact that I've deleted a file that was required for me to launch apps... Now I just need the right fix.
After 5 minutes of screen inactivity the phone restarted by itself, kind of creepy... ...
Flash_Recovery.bat did nothing.
Reboot2Recovery.bat made it reboot but still struck on the same menu.
Nothing seems to be effective via the phone anymore, seems like I have to rely on abd but then again I don't know how... ... My dad is also f*cking pissed off ^ ^;...

simple answer for your

go to emergency mode
and flash that stock rom

Changed a permission now I am stuck in endless reboot

Not sure I am posting in the right spot, but pretty sure the people that can answer are in this section.
After putting it off for months, I upgraded my 6T T Mobile converted to international to OOS 10.3.3 with the ElemetalX kernel, and xxxNoLimits 10.2. Did this several days ago, no problems. Great battery, smooth performance. Even getting 2 days with my VPN on and mock location set to "always".
I went into app ops and noticed almost every app now has "access location from media" and started going through and denying that permission for almost, if not all, the apps. I remember a couple of system apps I did that to. Google play framework being one of them, and, I think, google play services. There may have been 1 or 2 more system apps I did this with also.
I do not have a google account on my phone. I don't want to make it any easier for my pocket tracking device to track me than I have to.
I added an open source mock location app a day or so ago, not problems.
About 5 or so minutes after finishing up in app opps, I went to get the kiddo some food and looked down and noticed my phone rebooting. Now, it is in an endless boot loop.
I can hold power + up volume and get it to power down, but can't get back into TWRP recovery. Figured a quick reflash puts me back to zero and I can start over.....more carefully....but the phone is not cooperating.
I should be able to use adb and flash TWRP that way and use adb to reboot to recovery ( going to have to brush up on the how to before I start though.).
Any thoughts as to WHAT I have done and WHY I am now stuck on endless boot( w XXX animation )??
Is there an easy fix I am overlooking?
Thanks in advance,
JC
Volume Up + Power while turning on will boot to fastboot.
Volume Down + Power while turn on will boot to recovery.
Holding Volume Up + Power should force the phone to turn off.
Volume Up + Volume Down should put your phone in Download mode for the MSM Tool
Can you get into fastboot? Then you might be able to boot TWRP again temporarily?
Thanks, that gets my into TWRP, unfortunately, my dumb ass deleted the last OTA update after I flashed it. Should be able to side load it onto the phone, then flash it via TWRP.
Well, things just took a turn for the worse. I forgot to flash twrp after sideloading the os. Now it is keeps booting into Oneplus recovery. Still shows bootloader is unlocked though. I have done everything except a total wipe. Maybe I can still get TWRP back........
