I can retrieve email fine, but not send email via my gmail / messaging settings. It gives me an error message telling me to check my connection settings when trying to send in my outbox.
Any ideas?
If your service provider is ATT/cingular try using cwmx.com as your outgoing pop server.

Interesting...using fido however.
not sure whether gmail supports authenticated smtp... but that seems likely to be your problem...usually you have to use providers smtp address its something like gprs.fido.ca or internet.fido.ca
I'm assuming you can receive but not send right?
yes I can receive but not send...I've tried both smtp addresses but same error. Receiving isn't perfect either...
weird, mine works perfect for me. (im an AT&T customer)
I use pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com. all ssl is enabled.
I also use as my username recent:[email protected]
using the recent: preface enables the emails to remain on the device between syncs.
Settings for T-MobileWeb
If anyone has it on Tmobile US using the el cheapo 5.99 plan... you have to:
1. go to your mytmobile page and set it in your tzone -> email settings (pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com).
2. in your phone... set both smtp and pop to "myemail.t-mobile.com"
3. under password... use your email acct password... not your tmobile password
4. set internet to whatever you get internet on.
5. voila... email
I've just downloaded the gmail midlet...so now I couldn't care less about windows messaging!
I haven't had any problems sending with gmail.
Go to the gmail.com website, log in, and follow the directions for setting up outgoing email. You'll find that it will magically work once you follow the directions.
You can, of course, also use the midlet as you have discovered. I've found that the midlet is a bit flakey but perhaps you'll have better luck.

Hi,
I experienced this before and it's very strange. I have a pop account forwarded from Yahoo. I have the premium Yahoo mail so they let me do this with the following proxies:
pop: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
smtp: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
the incoming stuff works fine, the outgoing for about 2 days has been saying that it can't send any messages out.
What is going wrong? I have tried creating a new Yahoo account.
I've tried assigning the outgoing mail server to Sprint as opposed to "The Internet"
I've tried taking off the plus at the beginning and turning off SSL required.
NOTHING has worked.
Any help would be most appreciated.
SMTP is used to send OUTGOING mail..the POP server handles the incoming mail.
You will need to set your SMTP server to : smtp.sprintpcs.com (or whatever carrier your're using's SMTP server)
Assuming you are on Sprint AND you have a dataplan/PCS mail account :
You will need to know you Sprint PCS MAIL login (do not put in the @sprintpcs.com part) and password (which is not always the same as the PCS Vision password used to setup your Dial-up from your phone).
You can reset the password on the Sprint site, you have to hunt around for it though.
PCS mail is going to be dropped by Sprint at the end of this year, so be prepared for that once you get it working.
I had a similar problem using GMAIL, and I fixed it by un-clicking the Server requires a SSL connection for outgoing mail. In your mailbox settings you can change that
Wish I'd never installed the official SIM update from HTC. Have an unbranded HD2 on TM, and after Radio ROM update to 2.06.51.07, I couldn't send emails from my Ntl account on the phone. The other two (Hotmail and another pop3) work fine.
After spending hours searching the forum, and deleting the account and recreating it, I gave up and rang TM. They told me to change the outgoing server to smtp.t-email.co.uk
This is usually smtp.ntlworld.com on my pc, but after doing that it started working....until today. Sent numerous emails and they all ended up in Sent Items folder, but the recipients never received them, although I am receiving emails from eBay etc. Rang TM again and they told me take battery out and reboot, did it and I then successfully sent an email to the lady on the phone. She replied and I received that, as expected.
The problem now lies with the fact I can send outbound emails from the NTL account, but if I try sending ones to myself, ie NTL to NTL, or NTL to Hotmail, they all seem to send, but never receive.
It seems that sending anything from this NTL account to any other account listed on my phone won't work. Hope that makes sense.
BTW, I have stock 1.48 rom, with very few reg tweaks, such as touch x tskmanager, wmlonglife app.
Hope someone can help.
Cheers
Most ISP's only allow outgoing mail if you are connected directly to their network, otherwise it is classed as relaying email, and they don't allow it as it is considered insecure. (I.e if you are connected to your ntl broadband via wifi, the send should work, if you are connected to , say, o2 mobile, or a wifi hotspot, it won't)
On my n95 I had my ntl account configured to retreive from pop.ntlworld.com, but send via my o2 account (mail.smtp.o2.co.uk), with the from email showing my ntlworld address, so teh receiver never sees the o2 part, (unless they look in the headers of teh message)
thanks for the quick reply. However, it seems that I can send an email to anybody from the ntl account, but not to any of the other accounts that I have setup on my phone.
Seems like something is blocking me sending emails to my own phone, but only via the ntl account. If I send one from hotmail to hotmail, it works fine. Which is a shame as I use the ntl account as default
Has anybody else updated the radio rom and had problems like this?
Hi, just spent 30 minutes playing with ntl account on the hd2 (i didn't have this account set up yet.)
Successfully sends and receives (including sending to myself at the same address) when connected over wifi (provided by NTL)
but FAILS to send over 3g or my neighbours tiscali wifi. (As predicted, outgoing only works from an ntl source to prevent spammers using their servers as a relay) however receiving works over all three connection.
The settings I have are
pop3.ntlworld.com (could also put pop.ntlworld.com too, I think, but im fairly sure it doesn't matter)
smtp.ntlworld.com
Ticked Outgoing requires authentication
Ticked Use same name and password
Works a treat, hope you get yours fixed.

Cheers for that. Tried the wifi option and seems to work as yours does, but not with 3g. Suppose, as long as we can send emails to anyone but ourselves that will have to suffice, unless someone comes up with a fix. Seems more an Ntl thing than the phone?!
Yea, the 'no relaying' was brought in to fight spam. You used to be able to connect to any smtp server from anywhere, and use it to send email. (Simplified, but u get the idea) so most ISP's now only allow outgoing mail from within their own network.
As for workarounds, do you have an email account with your mobile provider? Example, I have one with o2, so on the outgoing page I change the smtp.ntlworld.com to smtp.o2.co.uk and UNTICK use the same name and password, and instead insert my o2 account details and i can then send over the 3g network. As an added bonus, the o2 servers WILL let me send without being connected to their network, so this method will still send over wifi too, and so long as you set the 'email address' that is displayed to yourname @ntlworld.com no one will ever know any difference, they will still see 'From:[email protected]' and when they reply it will go to [email protected] ntlworld.com
Hope this helps
no outgoing email!!
Hi all
Been reading your thread with interest. I have email with talktalk. I can receive my email on my HD2 no probs, but when i send via HD2 (talktalk) to myself and other non-talktalk addresses email will not send through - gets stuck on 'looking for changes' stage. My email settings on HD2 are identical to those on my PC.
Also how have you guys configured email to send via wifi? im struggling with this as well!!!

I read a post by smachine detailing how to do this a few weeks back and it seemed so simple, I thought I'd try it. And it was! I wish I had done this months and months ago; unlimited calling over wifi and 3G, so easy! His original post is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8813244&postcount=18
This is so awesome I thought I'd start a new thread on this for others to see, and make a little guide out of it for easy reading / bulleted-format. The entire process should only take around 15 minutes. Here goes:
[Edit 11/23]: Added CSipSimple setup info and link for Sipgate setup
--------------------------------------------------
Get a SIP Account:
A) Purchase a Gizmo5 account (eBay around $5 to $10). (I purchased from buildfruitkit.)
B) [Edit 11/23]: Or try a free SipGate account (Note: I haven't tested this but might be worth a try before buying a Gizmo5 account.)
Log into https://my.gizmo5.com -> Change email -> Change password -> Write down your Sip Number
On PC: www.google.com/voice -> Voice Settings -> Add another phone
Name: SIP
Number: Your Sip Number (no "1" beforehand)
Phone Type: Gizmo
Save
Verify the number (click Connect, it will call, Sipdroid will ring, enter the two numbers)
You now have free incoming calls! Yay!
On phone: Download CSipSimple OR Sipdroid from the Android Market:
CSipSimple (Seems to be better than Sipdroid) [Added 11/23]:
Open app. Wait for files to download
"Easy Configuration" Screen:
"Integrate with Android": Leave checked
Availability Profile: Choose based on preference
"I'm allowed to use mobile": Check this if you want to call over 3G
Add Account:
Select Sipgate or Generic Wizards -> Basic
Account name: Anything (I put "Gizmo")
User: Your full sip number (including 1 beforehand)
Server: proxy01.sipphone.com
Password: Your Gizmo password
It should show up in the accounts list as Green and Registered
Sipdroid:
Open App -> Settings -> SIP Account
Authorization Username: Your Sip Number (including a "1" beforehand)
Password: Your Gizmo password
Server or Proxy: proxy01.sipphone.com
Username or Caller ID: Your Sip Number again (including a "1" beforehand)
Port: 5060
Settings -> Advanced Options
Use STUN Server: Check this box
STUN Server name: stun01.sipphone.com
STUN Server port: 3478
(Optional: if you find calls too quiet) Sipdroid -> Settings -> Audio/Video -> Earpiece Gain -> High or Highest
For outgoing calls, download "Google Voice Callback FREE" from the Android Market (no need to purchase Gizmo5 credit)
A) Sign in with your Google username/password.
B) Choose your callback number (select Gizmo), and select "Ask every time" or "Always (when possible)" based on your preference.
Calling:
A) Incoming calls: These should be routed through CSipSimple/Sipdroid (as long as the app is running).
B) Outgoing calls: Use the stock dialer. GV Callback Free should pop up -> Tell it to call you back. This will make it act as an incoming call just like A)
Hope this helps others out there.

I used to have this plan before they even had a month-to-month version of this data only plan. If you sign up for a 2yr version of it you also can get a AAA 15% discount (you can't get this on a month to month plan) so that you only pay $34/mo data only.
Im im UK...can i get free calls over wifi/3g?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Hey Paul, Do I only have free incoming calls when someone calls my sip number only ? or is it my tmo number and google voice numbers also.
Glad the guide is helping out people. Feels good knowing I helped out on these threads, as I have learned so much stuff here over the past month.
I used GV call free app, however lately the program sometimes doesnt dial out. Has anyone found an alternate callback app that works almost 100% of the time? I say that there was another app called google voice callback free, I might give that a shot.

Its only the google voice number. If you have an incoming call and are in a bad data connection area/ no wifi you can press the back button and you can take the call using the tmobile network (as long as you set up call forwarding of your google voice number to tmobile number). You should just start telling all your close contacts your new google voice number. This sipdroid setup has been great for when i go to my relatives house who has next to 0 tmobile reception, I can just connect to wifi, and my then gets full reception. I used to really want tmobile UMA wifi calling, but now there is no need with this setup.
one question ,does it work if u make international calls or just the local call or us only....

I actually finally got around to setting this up on my phone on Thursday using pretty much the same setup - great minds must truly think alike and all that jazz. I also installed the hacked sipdroid client from the author of Google Voice Callback Free, which allows the callback to be automatically answered by sipdroid. I don't have a great need for voip calling over 3g, so I took it a step further and established a Tasker profile to automatically set the third-party callback setting to "always if internet available" when the wifi state is connected, and left the app's setting on "Never". The Google voice app is still set to handle all outgoing calls, so calls happen as standard gvoice voice calls over the cellular network unless I have an active wifi connection, in which case they are voip calls.
Super easy and fully automated, and completely transparent to the party on the other end.

Where did you find the hacked sipdroid client? Same settings as the normal sipdroid version? What exactly is the difference of the hacked client, is it just so you avoid having to swipe up during the callback?

Free calls to your Google Voice number. Your GV # will forward to your SIP number (or your T-Mobile number if you want). Don't worry, you don't need to give out your SIP number to anyone.

I tried the GV Call Free app and yeah, it would never connect for me. That's why I switched over to Google Voice Callback. That one worked right away for me.

Yep, that's the one. The author says it was hacked to allow the Gvoice Callback app more access to the sip client under the hood. The main difference is the ability to auto-answer a callback from your Google voice number. It is based on an older version of sipdroid, but it seems to work beautifully for me.

Does the older hacked version of sipdroid cancel the default tmobile ringing when the call is answered (Google voice number is forwarded to ring standard tmobile network)? I believe that feature was added on the newer versions. It would be kind of annoying to answer a call on sipdroid with the stock tmobile dialer still ringing.
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I haven't had any issues with redundant incoming calls - though I do often see missed calls registered when I answer with sipdroid. I'm not sure there's anything that can be done with that aside from changing the phone preferences under the Google voice web app. If it is set up to ring both numbers, both numbers will likely still ring.

The current setup i have right now is that I have both sipdroid on, along with google voice forwarding my gv number to ring my original tmobile number. When I get an incoming call the sipdroid comes up first and is ringing, if i take the call then sipdroid shuts off the google voice-tmobile forwarding ringer. With old versions of sipdroid there would be a dual ringer problem, meaning if i answer the call through sipdroid the phone would continue to ring because google voice forwarding to mobile number wouldnt recognize that the call has already been answered. The reason i keep the forwarding to mobile still on is that I can pick whether to do a voip call or a standard tmobile network call if im in a area with bad data coverage.
I want to use the sipgate phone service with the standard Phone App. I just cannot get it to work properly.
I can connect perfectly to sipgate with my router, so I know my sipgate account is working and I have the correct settings. This is what I tried to do on my YD201 with active WiFi connection (obviously giving a false number for my SIP-ID in this description):
I Started the phone app and clicked on the 3-point menu, top right.
Settings / Calls / Calling accounts
All calling accounts: Select which account can make calls
X-Divert: (empty)
SIP accounts:
- Added a SIP account as follows:
- Username: 1234567 (my SIP-ID)
- Password: ******** (my SIP Password - all caps)
- Server: sipgate.co.uk
- Authentication username:
- Display name: 0203 ......... (my UK phone number)
- Outbound proxy address: sipgate.co.uk
- Port number: 5060
- Transport type: UDP
- Send keep-alive: Automatic
- After saving, it displays "[email protected] Checking status" for quite a time until then displaying "Receiving calls"
Use SIP calling: For all calls
Receive incoming calls: X
Display duration: X
Vibrating after connected: X
When receiving calls on the SIP number, the sound quality is great and all is well.
When trying to call someone, there is a terrible noise and no communication is possible.
I also have a sipgate.de account, so I tried that as well. The same thing happened, incoming calls are perfect, outgoing calls had a terrible noise.
I made calls to both my landline and Skype phone numbers and it was the same. Obviously there is a problem with outgoing calls.
I tried changing the "Transport type" to TCP, but no connection was possible.
I also tried changing the port to the STUN port 3478, but again, no connection was possible.
Can anyone help solve this problem?
