Having serious problems with HTC EVO Shift. - EVO Shift 4G General

I got the perm root to go through, however nothing I did would push the recovery over, I am trying to run the stock RUU and even that's not working correctly. The first time I tried, it went to boot loader and then timed out. Same thing was happening when I was trying to push the recovery over. It's like when the device goes into bootloader, it's not longer recognized by my computer. Trying to reset the device now, and it looks like it just froze......So it won't even reset...when going through the power+vol down menu to reset it...

What error does the RUU give you..and do you have all the drivers installed
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Yes, I got the ADB to go through just fine, I got the perm root to run through, the device is recognized up until it goes to the fastboot in the bootloader, I have all the files, etc. The phone will not hard reset, it just stays frozen on the HTC black screen. It won't reboot into the bootloader when I try to run the stock RUU either, I am taking it back to exchange it today.

You can push the recovery and all that through terminal or adb..you don't have to fastboot..I had problems with fastboot if you want to try that
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Sound to me like bad drivers for fast boot. Try installing them and reinstalling them

Can you point me to the instructions to doing this? I read the ones in the root guide, however I didn't really understand it.
As for the fastboot drivers - do I need to do that from my PC or the device?

When I try to run the RUU, it reboots to the boot loader, but instead of going to the bootloader, it just goes to the black HTC screen and stays there. Any suggestions?

I did everything w/ terminal, there is a good post in the perma root thread around Feb 20th give or take a day on flashing recovery w/ Rom manager, also newkidd posted a one zip ruu thread,if all else fails u could give the irc a shoot lot of smart guys usually willing to help, good luck brother

When running the RUU and it reboots to bootloader/fastboot it will be a black screen for a few while it initializes , this is normal, don’t worry about it unless the RUU itself errors out just let it run. Mine took almost 4 minutes before it started the format and reload.

Unfortunately, it was erroring out, however, I managed to get the recovery loaded. Thanks for all your help.

Unrevoked not working for OTA?

Anyone else having this problem?
I'm using Unrevoked 3.1 on Windows XP.
I've got USB debugging on and the drivers installed.
The phone reboots into HBoot but then never goes into recovery. Just reboots.
Anyone else having this problem? It is definitely screwing me over for 2.2 haha.

Superuser will not install. Unrevoked just reboots the phone it seems... never going into the custom recovery or flashing SU.
Which is my problem haha. I want 2.2 but can't flash it without root.
If I lose root because of this and am the only one I'm not going to be a happy camper lol
Possible
After reading 700+ pages of the other thread I have decided to steer clear from the buggy-beta and wait for the OTA, but I have had trouble with v3.1 and a regular reboot, so I wanted to chime in with 1 question:
Is your phone hot while this is happening?
I returned my Incredible due to excessive heat triggering reboots. When the phone was in the warm-to-hot zone, I could NEVER get into recovery. I could get into HBOOT, choose recovery, and then it would do 2 reboots, the second one being a regular.
Only way i could get into recovery was with a fully charged overnight battery, first thing in the morning (phone nice and cool).
Just got into it. used the custom image... the new 2.5.0.4 (if I'm not mistaken).
It was weird, and it may not be the image... it may have just taken like 10 tries to do it.
I'm not even wasting my time loading the OS... just putting on Froyo right now while in clockwork.
Crossing my fingers that it loads!

having trouble after i got the new ota loaded. I get to the reboot phone reboots then unrevoked says waiting for phone to reboot any ideas didn't have this problem before?
edit: never mind got restarted computer life is good now
I am having the same issue. I have installed the drivers, then when I run the reflash tool it reboots my phone after about 3 seconds and loads up HBOOT and then from there it reboots my phone and the reflash tool either says "waiting on phone to reboot" or "installing image" or something like that but it just sits there for hours and doesn't progress. I have debugging enabled.
To add a little history, I already rooted using the hard method awhile back and then unrooted. Now I am trying to root again and can't.

[Q] Not rooted bootloop?

Ok so this is on my wife's phone that I have not touched, I have a vibrant that is rooted and I flash different things all the time, and recovered from several bootloops, so I'm not totally new to this. As soon as you turn the phone on it goes to the my touch 4g screen, vibrates, and then reboots. I can get into hboot screen but if I try to go to recovery or do a factory reset it just bootloops again. I did some searching but saw nothing about an unrooted phone bootlooping. Any help is greatly apreciated.
Try this... pull the battery. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Then try booting it. Sounds like a dell tech support answer... but it has actually worked for more than a few people.

Any suggestions before I call HTC/tmobile in the morning?

If the pd15img.zip isn't working sounds like an internal storage issue. If that's the case there is nothing u can do. Call T-Mobile not HTC.

3 vibrations and blinking orange light

I wanna ask a question. Earlier, I used 4ext Recovery Control (the app,not actual recovery) , but i was changing the recovery theme. Anyway I chose 'reboot into recovery' to check out how the theme looked, and my phone went black and vibrated 3 times, and the orange light blinked continuously. I took out the battery and put it back in and pressed power, and same thing..black, vibrate x3, blinking light. So i took out battery again, waited bout 5 minutes, put it back and pressed vol dwn + power and it booted into hboot menu, where i entered recovery and selected reboot and it powered up normally, thank goodness! But my question is, is that a sign of something bad that i should be aware of in the future? I do have the bad chip, and i thought it was a goner! Has anybody else experienced this? Im kinda scared to be messin around now.. just wondering if y'all have seen this before.

Your phone will do that if the volume up is held during boot. Maybe the button took a dump.

Nothing like an easy fix!
Yea i had just reversed the Htcdev unlocked bootloader, a few days ago. I was happy I had my phone True rooted, s-off, eng. Hboot..and that happened! I damn near had a panic attack!
Sent from my Black Ice'd Glacier using xda premium
I also had the three fast vibrations and blinking orange led. I downgraded from Gingerbread to stock Froyo, rooted using Visionary and gfree. I then changed the engineering bootloader to 0.85.2007. I got into hboot, and verified I was S-off with that bootloader. I installed Clockwork mod recovery, and was able to create a recovery image. But, when I tried to make a backup of the rom, I got a black screen, When I tried to flash a rom I just got the orange symbol. I tried to reboot, and that’s when I first got the vibrations and orange light. I was able to restart with a battery pull, So I thought there was something wrong with my clockwork mod recovery. I reinstalled it again with the same results. I followed advice I saw in another post and pushed volume down and power and waited for the bootloader. I still had the original stock rom on there. It recognized it after a few tries, and updated. When it said reboot by pushing the power button, I got the vibrations and orange light again. It erased everything I had put on there. I wanted to see if I still had S-off, so I went to the bootloader, and I still have S-off, but the bootloader changed back to to 0.86.0000. When I tried to reboot via the power button this time, I was still getting the vibrations and orange light, and could not get it to restart. I let it charge for a while, and then pulled the sdcard in and out, along with the battery pull, and got it to restart.
I’m still new at this, so I’m not sure what I should do next. Should I try another sdcard with the stock rom? Should I try to reinstall Visionary first?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I really don’t want to stay on Froyo .
I think u should be ok to flash another rom. I was told it can be a result of holding volume up + power. Do you know if you might have did that by accident? Also, have you had any problems with your volume buttons sticking or anything? Since i had the problem, i have flashed several times, so maybe for me it was an isolated incident. I dont want u to blame me for anything, but my opinion is you should be ok to flash a rom, just be careful not to press the vol button while rebooting.

Thanks for the response. Should I try to run gfree again? Will it hurt anything? Even though the bootloader said S-off, when I run terminal emulator, and type in su, it says permission denied. Also I can't find gfree in the data/local folder I pushed with adb yesterday. Could this be the reason my 0.85.2007 bootloader didn't stick? I'm wondering if I should try another sdcard.
Thanks,
Erin

Now when you ask me if it will hurt anything, I am still quite new myself, and I dont want to tell you anything that would cause you to brick your phone. Do you know what emmc chip you have? Its been stated that some chips are more likely to mess up than others. If I could tell you anything, it would be to read what others have done, read the guides til you understand more..because there is no way to be sure that you won't brick your device. I have 2 mt4g so i took more chances than i should have. but go to the Ultimate Rooting, s-off guide in the wiki section, if you are choosing to continue. Im sorry i cant be of more help but i am only slightly ahead of you on this journey of learning ...
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Before I did anything to the phone, I verified the emmc chip, it is the "good one".
This is actually my second phone. I bricked my first one in November, and it had the "bad" chip. I didn't know about that problem until I had rooted it already. I was waiting for the ICS roms to get going before I did anything. That's why I've waited so long. I ran gfree verify through adb but got su: permission denied. It seems that the gfree didn't take, although I do have the backups gfree created.
I may try to see if I can undo them in a couple of days. I need a break from the stress it creates .
Thanks again for your input.
I know what ya mean about the stress it causes...I wanted to stop, then i would lay there and think..I can do this! Then i would stop..then start again! But what really helped me more than anything, was just reading posts by other users, about similar issues. It helped me get a better grasp of what I was doing. But whatever u decide, good luck.. I think you will get it, provided you remain patient. If ya have anymore questions just ask here and if I can help I will...

My phone still vibrates 3 times and flashes the orange light everytime I reboot. The only way to get it restarted is to do a battery pull and wait 5 minutes. I tried to flash the stock rom again through hboot. This time I used a different freshly reformatted sd card. I just don't know what to try next. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Erin
I finally got it to boot normally! I unrooted my phone to get s-on again. It may have had something to with gfree. I'm going to try to root it again.

It's definitely the gfree. I tried it two other times, with the same results. I was able to use the gfree method on my other phone, it just had the bad chip, so it died a few days later. I'm going to have to try another way to root the phone.
okay, I used the VISIONary method to root, and I now have S-off. No more vibrations and blinking lights.

This is about the 15th post I've seen this week about someone screwing up their n7. If there already isn't one there needs to be a step by step video for the correct way to unlock, root, and flash Roms. I suggest others read heavily before doing any flashing. Its bad enough the boot loader is already screwy.
The toolkit does everything for you. All in one method and you're done.

I had this problem happen with my Xoom.
Boot into the bootloader from recovery. There should be an option to do so.
In the bootloader flash a different recovery.
Then reinstall your ROM. It should boot.
If that doesn't work I would suggest flashing the stock images in fastboot and starting over.

Also, the reason why you computer sees the files is because with mtp it caches the files.

Sorry I wasn't trying to bust your stones. I haven't rooted yet because of all of the posts like yours. I've just seen more problems with flashing on this device then any other that I have with my past Droid devices. What we really need is apx (spelling?) Drivers and n7 files for a sure fire recovery from any disaster
Hopefully I don't have to start another thread.
I too think I bricked my Nexus 7.
I was having trouble and I accidentally cleared a file from the System UI app (its a system required app) which caused me to loose the 3 buttons on the bitten of the screen.
So I went to CWM to do a restore which said it failed.
After that it would not boot.
Its just stuck with the Google logo on the screen.
I held down the power up & down volume buttons and I get a screen that gives me that START button on the top right of the screen with the text in small size on the bottom left.
I can use the up and down volume to make the start button change to recovery mode or bootloader but activating them just goes to Google logo.
Can I recover or is it totally lost?
I also don't remember if I left the Nexus 7 in Debug mode which is usually required to perform custom Roms
Thanks
Rob

My guess is no, I never messed with any of my system stuff. Everything was factory except for the updates it had me do as they came out.
How long you let it sit in recovery erasing before you rebooted it? Is there an option in boot loader or recovery for a factory reset? Beings you're not rooted I doubt those one click tool kits will work for you.

As long as the boot loader starts you can recover your Nexus. Check this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
If he can't unlock the bootloader then there's not a whole lot he can do. Run "fastboot getvar all" while in bootloader and tell us what it says please. If adb is seeing your phone in recovery, then run an adb shell and do "ls -l /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/" please.
Sorry I can't help further but I just got this and don't know much. I am glad others came in to give you more help.
