Rom Manager - Atrix 4G General

Does it work on the Atrix without messing anything up?
I just want to backup the stock ROM with all my apps and settings.
Thanks

I don't believe ROM Manager supports the Atrix 4G at the moment.

do you know of any other app that will do a full rom backup like rom manager does?

I would just wait until ROM Manager supports it.
After all, the phone is less than a week old.
I see way too many people on these forums with zero patience.

its not a question of patience.
i was just wondering if there was a different app
it was very uncalled for the way you responded insinuating that i dont have patience
im not here going "hey i want this now...y the hell isnt rom manager supported yet?!?!"
it was just a mere question as to whether or not there was another app that could do full backups

I agree
I also have the atrix and was wondering the same thing. But i agree with you its not like im griping if it doesnt just would like to know if something supports it. there are alot more devs then just the people of rom manager. And it was rooted before release so it is possible that it could be done. So chill out with you cockiness/rudeness!!

You can back up your apps and whatnot using titanium backup or similar programs. It's not the same as ROM Manager/CWM but it'll get you by for now

Has there been anymore word on ROM Manager on the Atrix? I was curious as to if I could use it to install Gingerblur RC1.
But wait, Gingerblur isn't a "real" ROM anyway so that wouldn't work, huh?
Man I wish I hadn't paid for that before my brain kicked in.
Sorry for my recognized ignorance.....

ROM Manager - Where's the beef?

So I decided to buy ROM Manager to support the project but have to admit I was a little disappointed. Sadly I prefer the candy coating of Sense to that of CM. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like in CM too. I just tend to like the polish of Sense. Regardless, I had thought I might have direct access to many of the ROMs I've seen throughout the forums. Apparently that's not the case. Does ROM Manager only support CM ROMs?
No worries. I know I could get a refund for the App and return it but I'm cool with it. Maybe in the future more ROMs will become available for it for the Incredible.
Rom Manager supports virtually any rom, it's just a matter of the author setting up his server to work with Rom Manager AFAIK. More will be added eventually.
The chefs have to opt in to be included in ROM manager. Moto Droid had tons of stuff to choose from and I loved it. I have yet to see anything interesting in ROM Manager for the Incredible. Urge your favorite chefs to participate!
Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully things will get more active in the future then.
ROM Manager will gain more roms in due time, there isn't really alot of roms out for the inc as it is now. Also like mentioned its up to the rom devs to put them on there. They will come.

I used to be a fan of Sense, but the fact of the matter is that it's bloated.
There are plenty of alternatives in a ROM like CM for all of the Sense features you'd miss.
Also u can download any ROM and use ROM Manager to install it. Just download rom go into rom manager and choose install from SD. Imho its easier than booting into recovery and installing. So, i. A sense it does support everything else. Its also ez to manage and restore ur backups through ROM manager. Once u use it for a while and figure it out it can b a very handy tool if u are addicted to flashing ROMS. Goodluck i hope this can b of assistance to u

Yeah the developer of ROM Manager strongly encourages all devs to submit their ROMs... Other phones such as the Moto Droid have a much larger selection... As ROM development gets further along, there will be more on ROM Manager for Incredible as well.
I think the incredible has been hurt by the lack of phones available. I don't recall the original moto droid having inventory issues like the incredible. I think this has hindered rom development and availability of different roms. Imagine if we did not have months of no incredible phones available. The popularity of the incredible might be different, thus in my mind making the demand and supply of roms more available.
I am a big fan of Cyanogen's roms so not that big of a deal for me. I know that once the drivers are released the camera will be fixed. I am wondering if we will be able to have video out with cyan's roms?
Either way - rom manager is a great program and has a lot of different functionalities and uses. Some listed below:
flashing other roms (duh)
nandroid
partition sd card
fix permissions
Let's hope that HTC releases the drivers soon

No there isnt ... there are a few similar apps that just dont quite do it and there are others that are such crapware you would be embarrassed to show your phone to anyone. Seriously when i went with a vanilla UI and tried to find alternatives to Sense widgets and apps, I found out just how crappy the apps were on this OS.

Well I'll have to half agree with you there, there are some Sense widgets that I could never find replacements for. It's really a trade off, although it would be nice if we could somehow extract some of those to be used with a 3rd party or even stock launcher

LOL! I'd like to think I may have had something to do with that. I PM'd him earlier and in short time he replied letting me know he was going to add it. Maybe he was going to do it anyway, I don't know.
Regardless, it GREAT that other cookers are starting to get in on the action. I think more people will end up trying their ROMs too. It's a win - win for everyone.

Launcher Pro is going to support that.
Sounds interesting, but it'd be nice if your battery lasts longer than 20 minutes on a full charge, unlike when you're running Sense.

I think I saw something posted in ROM Manager in the Sky Raider area to fix this. Don't know the specifics or if the video is working. I plan on installing the ROM when I get some free time later.

phone is too damn slow

I'm tired of my phone being too slow, responding too slow to touch, lagging..
I have the android 2.1 OS on my HTC Hero CDMA and I was wondering if there were any general recommendations to speed up my phone.
I would be willing to put on a hacked OS, root it, or do whatever it takes as long as the phone is still fully functional. I'm pretty new with this stuff so bear with me.
Thanks,

I rooted, installed CM6, my phone was totally transformed.
Cm 6 - rc1 is a good start simply amazing going from stock. I get 0 lag. I must warn you always do a nandroid back up before changing ROMs. Its basically a clone of your phone's software and settings allowing you to recover from a bad issue.

+1 to all previous posts.
The Hero running out of the box stock with Sense is really pretty slow. I liked Sense, but I like a faster device better.
Follow the well documented instructions found on this site for rooting the Hero and then play around with different ROMs until you find one that fits you.
Personally I've been running Darchdroid and don't plan on ever switching again.
I don't even know what lag is any more.
Thank you for your responses.
Is there a link for a tutorial or forum topic about where to download CM6 and how to install it?
Thanks.

I've seen some posts about putting different kernal's on there..What do you guys think about that? Is there any cool features that I can do now with CM6? Tethering?

The problem with installing something like CM is that those ROMs are missing a lot of the stuff that you are used to using. And you might spend a long time downloading, and looking for the apps you need. I found CM to be not much faster and a pain in the ass in some ways (the dialer is weak, same with the keyboard, etc.)
I know people are going to start pointing to all the apps you can download to replace what is there, but it's a pain, and time consuming.
If anything I would try one of Fresh's ROMs, which have Sense and most of the HTC apps. And his Toast versions allow for overclocking as well.
On another note, your Hero should not be slow. Have you tried a factory reset?? I have used slow Heros before, but when they are working properly there should be almost no lag with the stock 2.1 OS.
The kernel is under the thread cdma android development and as far as cm6 u can overclock as well with a different kernel and as for aosp vs sense its just user preference tryem both c which one u like best and stick with what works for u that's what there here for both are outstanding

That's the beautiful thing about CM6 though is the customization. I know its personal choice, but I actually love the CM6 Phone Dialer (one of the guys over on the theme board customized the background for in call to be a nice cyan color other than green) and like the AOSP keyboard moreso than the Sense Keyboard. You can however, install a variety of HTC_IME keyboards and get that same Sense functionality on CM6.
I only do a new nightly every few days and it might take me... 10 minutes or so to get my phone setup. That includes a Full Wipe, ROM Flash, Kernel Flash, Circle Battery Flash and now a Phone Dialer Flash. I connect to my wifi and the Market downloads all of my apps for me and I restore my settings with ADW Backups. Logging into an app every now and then doesn't bother me after I've flashed a new ROM.
This is an "to each his own" situation and I did use FreshROM for quite some time before making the switch. To me, I don't plan on looking back. I may be switching to the T-Mobile G2 when it's released and as soon as CM is made available for it I'll be rooted and running it in no time.

How do you get the market to automatically download your apps? Is it another app or backup? It won't even save all of the apps I had downloaded last time. It only seems to save around 8.

[Q] Should i root?

i've had the atrix for a few weeks now, and been thinking about rooting for a while cause i pretty much root every android phone i get, but i'm tryna see if it's worth it right now or should i wait until the bootloader gets unlocked. If you've rooted before you know the benefits. At any rate, use aRoot from designgears. He has an uninstall script if you ever need to use one to go back. I would root anyway. Plus the few custom "ROM"s we have are excellent to say the least.

What are you looking to do? It really depends on that. If you like the stock look use adeo v.02 by DG. If you want a gingerbread-ish theme with all the goodies there, use GingerBlur. I also hear he's working on a HoneyBlur that will have the Honeycomb theme.

i'm really looking for a rom that has a lot of customization features added, something like cm7, i kno that these roms are probably in beta so i'm not gonna be picky, i appreciate everything that the devs are doing towards making this device the best in the market(which it already is lol), i can't wait til they crack the bootloader!

[Q] Which ROM do I pick?

I haven't updated my ROM in a while, mainly because I don't have the time to. I was running Baked Snack 1.9, but now I want to upgrade to Gingerbread.
There are tons of ROMS in the development forum, and I'm not sure which one to pick. I'm not really concerned with how a ROM looks, since I'm going to load LauncherPro on there anyway.
So, here are the requirements that I have:
- Running Gingerbread
- 4G, GPS, both cameras supported
- Good battery life
- HDMI mirroring
- No FPS limit
- Preferably can run CIFS Manager
Is there anything else that I should be looking for??
Thanks in advance!

FFS people do some research test a few roms and pick the one you like the best
we don't all have the time for that. i could easily spend hours researching and trying them out, which is all time that my phone is half functional, but there are higher priorities on my plate.

OFFICIALLY CM7 says it supports 4G.
However, my experience with CM7 WiMax has been shoddy at best. If you move from a 4G area to a non-4G area then back, most of the time the 4G breaks and you must reboot your phone to reconnect. Even if you stay in a 4G area, sometimes the 4G simply drops out, and you are stuck with both 4G and 3G icons on the screen, once again having to reboot to restore the 4G. There are some work-arounds, but it's definitely not stable, even in RC3. Don't even get me started on trying to wireless tether via 4G on CM7, even if you are lucky enough to get it to connect, you get about 2-3Mbits down whereas on Sense with Wireless Tether for Root Users you get 5-6 Mbits down.
Very annoying.
Anyway, I've given up on CM until the 4G issues are ironed out. I'm not paying an extra $10 a month for 4G if it's not stable enough to use.
My recommendation is to hop over to a MikFroyo ROM. It's as stable an fast as I've seen with everything working. You can apply themes and mods to get the Gingerbread look you want while you wait with the rest of us for the EVO to get official 2.3 support.
Good luck and hope this helped!

there are tons of reasons to root, as you probably know. i would like to use CIFS manager, tether, and use HDMI mirroring.
i was not aware that the stock rom now has unlocked FPS, but this was why i went to a non-stock rom in the first place. but now that i've gone to non-stock, i find that they are faster and have better battery life than stock.
Very tru they are way better with way more options. Idk wat the cifs is. But as far as tether goes there is pda-net for stock. But imho half the fun of rooting is trying all the roms from all the fabulous devs here on xda. It really doesn't take to long to see if a particular Rom is for u. Especially if u have TB. Then if a Rom isn't for u just nand restore to ur old Rom and in my experience its about 20 mins to try it and restore if its not for you. Plus everyone will have their own opinion about a Rom so in order for u to kno which one is for u u gotta try it

I gotta stick up for the OP here a little bit. He's asking for our help, and that's not a helpful comment to ask him "Why root?"
Not having to pay $30 to tether your EVO to a PC was reason enough for me. Or to overclock. Or to theme it to the max. There are many reasons to root.
This is a community for people who want to make the most of their phones. That is why we root.
Please don't come to XDA and ask "Hurr durr why did you root if you're not gonna blah, blah."
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all, amirite?

Now I'm not trying to be rude. I see this same q on here all the time and ppl usually give their opinion about the Rom they like. Then proceed to say they need to try them to find the one they like. And op is saying he doesn't have time to do that. It's just odd to me that ppl go and root their phone then ask for others to tell them wat the best Rom is. And that's a subjective term. I agree that paying for tethering and all the other charges are bs but honestly if ur gonna root its cool to ask for ppls opinions about the "best" Rom but if u don't have time to try them y bother. So somebody says so and so Rom is the best then he trys it and hates it so y not just try them urself. Usually the op for the roms will tell u what works and not working

Sorry if I jumped the gun in assuming you were rude. As you can see, I've been lurking the forums for a few months, but today is my first time posting. I can understand if you get tired of "What's the best ROM?" threads, because you are right, the "best" ROM doesn't exist, only the best ROM for YOU.
Ya no worries. I lurked for a while too. Now I post rarely trying to help when I can but I'm just a guy loving all the devs great work. And if u want a custom Rom u should c which one u like. Nobody can tell u which Rom will b best for you. Unless u can't think/decide was best for you

ROM request

I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to make a stock deodexed ROM with CIQ removed or if that is even possible. Thanks in advance.

LOL, they really need to put a confirmation alert on the thanks button.
Any reason you prefer stock ROM over one of the powerhouse ROM's we have that already have it removed (a la Bonsai or SRF)?
Removing ICQ is not an easy task from what I hear. And I don't believe the current ROM development community would want to invest the time to do it. Not sure though, maybe it is easy.
I mean if you take it out. It's not even stock anymore. Since that's part of the stock ROM. Semantics, but you know what I mean.
