So I'm not an Android expert, but I do have experience rooting and installing ROMs and I'm stuck.
I've followed the instructions from this forum for loading Liberty 1.5 on my DX, which are copied and pasted below:
-boot into recovery via clockworks bootstrap
-select "wipe data/factory reset"
-select "Yes -- delete all data"
-go back "powerbutton"
-select "install zip from sdcard"
-select "choose zip from sdcard"
-find and select LibertyX/2-X.X.zip
-reboot
When bootstrapper tried to flash the Liberty zip from the sd card I get an "installation aborted" error. I deleted and re-downloaded the file numerous times from various sources, but I get the same error.
Any ideas?
Did you download multiple times from multiple sources on your phone? If so try downloading with a PC. I had issues a couple of times downloading from my phone until I noticed that the zip file wasn't downloading correctly.
I downloaded 3 times from different forums through my macbook, then transferred the files both via awesome drop and via usb. Got the installation aborted error every combination. I rooted using the Z4 app if that makes any difference.
So you tried dling on your macbook... did you try downloading directly to your phone? I never use a computer to download roms.

What you need to do is wipe your data and cache, go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats, go to mounts and storage, mount system and data, and then install it
I've installed liberty 1.5 on two phones now, mine and for a friend of mine. I was really super careful on mine and it took a couple tries to get it to go, but if you dont clear the cache and wipe everything it gives you lots of problems. It's a must.
Finally got it to work. My download was getting terminated from xda (at least that's what my computer was telling me) and I was only getting partial downloads. I downloaded via the ftp link and it loaded somewhat ok. was stuck in a boot loop for awhile, but a couple recovery reboots fixed that. Running smooth now, thanks for the assistance.
Nice. How do you like it?

Help!!
I'm brand new to installing custom ROMs and I think I made a big mistake. I installed Apex just fine and then I thought I would try to install Liberty. I went through the process but after it rebooted it is just staying on the Liberty logo and not doing anything else. I figured it might take a few minutes but it's been over 30mins!
Thinking back to when I installed the ROM, I might have forgot to wipe the old ROM.
I need help. Is there anything I can do or is my phone now bricked??
Not a big fan. A little too buggy for me. Installed darkslider and I love it!

I ran into the same issue the first time around. While my friend didn't recommend it, I did a battery pull and restarted; after that, everything went well. I can't say that this will work on yours.
You can also try the Darkslide ROM as recommended by jrdecat. I didn't run this one for long, but it was stable.

Hi guys,
I've tried using unrevoked 3.3 on my wildfire, with android 2.1, didn't work - so I tried 3.2 and I got the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 on there, I can boot into that now,
But still not knowing how to root it,
Can someone give me some advice from here, I get the "Internal error" message and can't go any further, but I assume you can manually do it, since I've got the clockworkmod recovery on there,
Toby =)

if you have clockworkmod recovery then that means you rooted it, just put a custom rom onto your sd card, boot into recovery and install zip from sd card. do a nandroid backup of your rom first.
When I try using Titanium Backup, I get a failed message...

Okay, I installed busy box and it says it rooted, does the clockworkmod matter what version you have?

Nope, you should be fine.
Thank you, I'll let you know how it goes, is Wildpuzzle rom trustworthy? It's been around for awhile right? =)
Yeah wildpuzzle is good, I used to use it.
I had abit of a freak out, I wiped my phone then couldn't load any custom rom =( But now its loading, hoping it works...
I don't know if the rom is loading or not, the screen with the android symbol coming out of the box showed up now and white backgroud with the "HTC quietly brilliant" animation seems to be sitting there forever,
I installed the SUnAaBh v1.1** rom from sc card,
Does this seem right?
First boot takes 10 to 15 min.
You should have done a nandroid backup of your stock rom first, oh well.
If it doesn't boot, do a full wipe, wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache in recovery and flash again.
After like 2 or 3 minutes, the screen goes black then the HTC logo screen comes back on and loads again, makes me think its in a loop and no installed right =\
Do a full wipe and try flash again. If it doesn't work, try a different rom.
Yeah, I did a back up with nandroid then moved the files to my computer incase, they was in a folder called orangeworkmod folder?,
Wipe cache?

Yes, you should wipe data and cache before installing a new rom. They are all there in recovery.
Okay, yeah - its all good, was just taking time, does wildpuzzle rom have overclocking feature, or is that a application?
Read a few other loop posts, but none were for the evo and/or helped much. I've been running CyanogenMod (newest) with little problems except for one which is why I wanted to try a few others.
Using ROM manager, I did try to d/l myn's as I have used it in the past, and after the download, reboot, the install kept showing the android package and a triangle with exclamation point. When completed, it rebooted and just kept looping through the CyanogenMod bootloader screen (so I know the myn's didn't get installed). I have 3 backups, the one from this morning and 2 older ones.
I did a reboot / recovery with this mornings backup and had the same results (note I didn't wipe, just backed up). I did let it sit a good 15 minutes of the loader, black screen, loader, etc.
I then restarted again and selected the older backup (which was using fresh rom). Got my loader, and everything did start (thankfully) and I could make a few calls. The problem(s) I have are;
I don't want fresh which is why I switched. I just tried using ROM manager to select myn's, even selected the WIPE DATA and backup with the results. The installer goes 2 quick to read, but I just see that triangle with ! as it tries to flash the new myn's rom.
Ideas / suggestions are appreciated.
I've heard that ROM manager might not clear the Dalvik cache very well. This is what I'd try:
1) Download and install AMON RA 2.2.1 that I've attached. Its labeled as PC36IMG so your phone will automatically recognize it.
2) Download a check sum program for your computer, you should verify the MD5 value to this one below. You need to make sure you didn't have any download issues and this file isn't corrupt, otherwise you've got a new set of problems.
26eadae1e206784d0bb9426f24f4303d
3) Place this file on your SD card root directory. Also put Warm2.2 ROM on the SD card as well.
4) With your phone off, hold down the volume down button and turn it on.
5) You should go into the bootloader screen. The phone will automatically scan for the PC36IMG file. Agree to install it.
6) After this is installed, remove this PC36IMG file off your SD card just to make things less confusing.
6) With the phone off, go into the bootloader screen again. This time select "Recovery" after it scans.
7) You should now be in AMON_RA 2.2.1 recovery. Navigate to Wipe. For a completely clean install, wipe data, cache, Dalvik, and SD:EXT.
8) Then navigate to the Flash from SD card, find your Warm2.2 ROM and install. When complete, reboot the phone. Things should work now.
Hope this helps.
@coiledwire - thanks for such a great detailed reply. I did exactly what you suggested and sure enough worked like a charm.
Although Fresh was ok (and working), you don't go through all the trouble to go 90% ... thanks again...
Sweet! Glad to hear things are resolved.
In the future, always wipe the cache and dalvik before flashing. That goes for kernels, mods, as well as ROMs (wipe the data also when doing these). Some even suggest wiping these 3 times just to make sure.
Top 3 sources of problems: corrupted download, didn't wipe, and incompatible mods. IMHO.
Yea, well normally I would use ROM manager (free) and didn't delete the data which this time I did from the recovery mode which was probably a good part.
So at least now it's the newest radio, ROM and everything I want (except the vanilla lock screen) which when I tried to install from SD I received a nice error talking about the app was written with some old things, so that's my next project!
Thanks again ... great info!
Anyone else having random reboots in the savaged-zen roms? I've tryed flashing it a couple times used a few different versions of their kernels and I still get random reboots. It also reboots whenever trying to install any apps. If anyone else is experiencing these problems or has a fix. Feel free to comment

yeah it didn't help at all.
someone posted this fix in another thread but i have no clue how to do it myself...
"I did a full wipe with Calk's Format All script and installed the RC3 with the SZ gapps from the first post (after a reboot, per an earlier post).
Couldn't install anything from the market or via File Manager. It would download, then hot restart the phone. Found out that the permissions/owner of /data/app (and/or data/app-private) were incorrect. Changed perms to 771 and owner to system.system and now all is well with the world again."
Had the same issue on my buddy's evo, after fixing permissions/owner I then used every option in ra recovery (2.3) in the wipe menu except " wipe sdcard" and " wipe boot", include android.secure and all other wipes. Flash rom then reboot phone, let the phone start up, then reboot back to recovery and flash gapps

The problem with that is that it wont boot with out the gapps being flashed. Ill try again doing what you said when I get home tho. Do you think its leftover files from other roms messing it up? Because when I first rooted I was what you would call a flashaholic haha and there is a few folders from other roms on my SD "miui, etc"

That is what I thought also, but it was a last ditch attempt before giving up and going back to his old nandroid, but the phone booted fine, and I was even able to make calls without gapps.

ive had this issue with cm7...if i flash rom...then flash gapps...and then flast titanium backup
if i dont flash titanium back up it works fine.
Here's the backstory:
My DX has been rooted for about 6 months. I've used CM7, MIUI, and RevNumbers ROMs and have had little trouble with anything before yesterday. I know how to SBF, use Droid2Recovery, wipe data, and all that good stuff that gets our rooted phones to the sexiness they are.
Well the other day MIUI was acting a bit funky and would so I decided to SBF and start from scratch. Well after SBFing, rerooting, running D2Recovery, and wiping data/dalvik I installed ROM Manager and proceeded to download the latest CM7 nightly.
This is where the problems began...
After downloading the ROM and selecting Wipe Data/Dalvik Cache it rebooted into CWM Recovery. But it informed me an error occured and the installation was aborted. After trying several more times with MIUI and RevNumbers ROMs I decided to reSBF and try again. Same thing, kept getting the error while in CWM Recovery (It didn't tell me the error by the way, just tells me there was an error). So then I tried a slightly older GB Kernel and SBF'd to that. I still got the same error when it tries to install the ROM. I also tried downloading and manually installing the ROMs with the same failure.
So there we are, SBF'd phone, rooted, not installing ROMs.
Thoughts?
Rom manager maybe?

I would say that ROM MANGER is causing the issue. Perhaps try this process by entering recovery manually, and not installing ROM MANAGER at all.
let me know how it goes
How do I install a zip if I'm in regular recovery?
I take back my last reply. D2Recovery got me into CWM. BUT...
No dice. Still getting errors. I think my SD card is bad. Going to steal my wife's and test it out. Will update this after I give it a shot.

I am in need of some help with my Droid 2 that I rooted and flashed. Everything was going smoothly up until I flashed the rom and now i am stuck at the Motorola M and in a boot loop. I have pulled the battery and tried to re-install and still nothing. I re-installed to sbf and tried the whole process over multiple times and still nothing. I have watched many how to videos even though this is my 4th time rooting a phone i know they are all different, and i seem to be doing all the right steps and no matter what i do im stuck at the Motorla Logo. Please help!
What are you flashing it from? Froyo? GB?
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
I've tried both medthods...Froyo originally. So I tried OTA to GB and then flash it...that didnt work either. What is the last sbf for the droid 2 anyway?
You should be on OTA GB when flashing it.
Check your MD5, lots of people seem to be having problems getting it to match.
Look at my thread on the Droid 2 Global section.. do steps 9-11 only.

If you're flashing Liberty you can try using Rom Manager. Otherwise after you install GB and root, install Bootstrapper, run it's installation tab then recovery. Once in recovery wipe cache, wipe data, then select zip from sd and install.
Make sure you have the proper version of Liberty for your phone.
Hi, I am also having the same issue
I had Liberty 2.0 v2.0.1 and wiped data and installed from SD, stuck at splash screen
I pulled the battery and tried 2 more times, still same issue
Then I wiped the cached, wiped data and installed from SD and I'm still stuck at the splash screen, any help is greatly appreciated!
1) Try wiping davlik cache as well
2) Make sure you have the version of Liberty designed for your handset. It shouldn't flash anyway if it's the wrong one, but anything is possible.
Are you guys using Rom Manager or Bootstrapper by the way? Just wondering.
Also, if you're coming from a Rom already on there and you mess up you can use Clockwork to restore your last saved system image.
